Okay, so as sGs has grown and I have been accepting most everyone off hand we've gotten alot of strong D+/C-/C rank players. While there is nothing wrong with this in and of itself; it creates some problems. Namely, sGs tag is intended to indicate someone who is a likewise a newer player. With too many D+/C- guys its way to easy for a new D- to expect a nice practice game around there skill level only to get face raped by someone vastly better.
The solution is pretty straightforward: people with ranks better than mid D+ use a slightly different tag to indicate they are coaches and not players. Something like C-sGs.<name>.
If anybody has suggestions for what the tag for the coach players should be post em here, I'm open to suggestions.
MTA: On an unrelated note, there is some discussion about creating a "NGV" (next generation veterans) as a smaller, more structured clan for those that have reached solid D+ and beyond and want a more organized group to practice with. Your thoughts there are appreciated as well.

But shouldn't their rank on iCCup be an indicator of how good they are? Unless people haven't played enough games to get back to their own rank. A D- player ought to know that C- player will destroy them regardless of the sGs rank.
(Mind you currently iccup doesn't show me latency or rank on my new computer for some reason.)

I don't really think it's a big problem that more experienced players are joining up. It's great for new players to learn from more experienced people and like it was mentioned, the rank itself I think is a good enough indicator of skill. A more structured practice team for higher level players sounds like a great idea, but that goes for the low level players too! Have new people been complaining about being rolled by C- players though? I'm really confused by this, since I think the new players more than anything need to talk about the game with more experienced players (and of course to play a ton of games) to improve fast. Do we really need to split up sGs into separate clans, or couldn't it be enough to have people agree on practice sessions with players of their skill level?

Did you register on iCCup.com? I don't think you can register for the server using the in-game menu, but looks like the name isn't used by anyone.

That would be my concern. On one hand, we don't want extremely new players being rolled in a casual game at unawares because a D+ player decided not to rank up. However, it would be a shame to segregate ourselves too much as I find it tremendously helpful to have higher level players hanging around that can answer questions and give advice. I think back to Storm[pt] the slave driver of practice (joking, we love you, where'd you go?) who was very helpful to to get ideas from.
Not everyone will necessarily commit to being a coach in an official capacity, but the higher ranks might throw out useful morsels every now and then.
