There are more players in the eSports who are undervalued regardless of their skill and reputation that you think. Skills are great but it doesn't do anything if you don't have the chance to showcase it with a major award. Among these types of players, the finger is, without hesitation, pointed at SK Telecom's Bisu.
I'll translate the rest of the preface later.
DES: You've had some time off after Proleague had finished. I'm curious as what you were up to. Bisu: I haven't done anything special besides the trip to Thailand with my teammates. I rested at home and went to Wolmido with friends. The rest of the time was spent practicing. Just the regular things to do during the time off.
DES: You used to known for doing well during the individual leagues and lacking in the team leagues. But now it's the opposite. Your thoughts? Bisu: When I was at MBC Hero, I heard a lot of criticism like "Do you ever practice for team leagues?" but once I moved to SK Telecom I get the opposite criticism. I don't think there has ever been a player who's received as much criticism in all areas like me (laughs). Thinking about it now, it does seem unfair. There's never been a moment where I haven't tried my hardest.
DES: Even now, I don't know how it's possible for someone to achieve 63 wins during Proleague and I'm curious on your thoughts about it. Bisu: I don't think there ever will be a player to come out and break my record. (laughs) For a whole year, there hadn't been one day where I rested properly and it's getting harder and harder to imagine continuing that habit. I don't think I could even ever break this record. I can say that with confidence.
DES: Speaking of Proleague, I'm reminded of the Ace match during the Proleague Grand Finals. After that match, there was a lot of talk of "Bisu should have been sent out for the Ace Match." What did you think when you saw those comments? Bisu: Would we have really won if I were sent out? I don't think so. To tell you the truth, my terran match up is poor compared to my zerg match up. I think it was better sending out BeSt who experienced defeating Flash and fully understood the terran match up. I think there would have been a bigger debate going on if I was sent out and had lost. (laughs)
DES: There is a lot of discussion on the format of Proleague. What are your thoughts on the subject? Bisu: Firstly, I think it's best to keep the 7set format but have the team prepare for only one match a week. Before it wasn't too difficult to keep up with 3 matches a week. But now I feel like it is getting harder to keep up with. And even for the fans, I think it's just too hard for them to keep up with the amount of games. So in addition to trying to balance individual leagues and proleague, I think 1 game a week is the most efficient format.
DES: You must feel pretty upset with your performance in the individual leagues. Especially since you haven't even experienced an OSL finals. Bisu: (Sigh) I'm frustrated. I think it's really difficult to reach the Ro16 for OSL. I'm telling you, players that aren't well known, all of sudden play exceptionally well when they face me during the OSL. Look how well hyvaa played against me! I think I can do well once I reach the Ro16 but it's proving to not be that easy so I'm frustrated.
I'm starting to realize the importance of individual leagues. After watching JangBi win in the individual leagues and shoot up the KeSPA Rankings and also seeing my own team mate, n.Die_soO reach the top 4 and achieve 9th, I've realized that individual leagues are quite important.
Furthermore, it seems like instead of getting Most Wins in Proleague and a couple MVPs during Winners League, I should have concentrated more on winning in the individual leaves as to receive the Protoss Award. (laughs)
DES: Oh you brought it up first. There is a lot debate around the Protoss award for this year so I'm wondering what your thoughts are. Bisu: Honestly, it'd be a lie to say I'm not biased. Because of the immense effort I have put in throughout this year and because it shows with my win record, I think I should receive the award. But it upset me that fans were actually debating just because JangBi won the OSL. If only I had done a little bit better in the individual leagues, these kinds of debates wouldn't come up. I was upset with myself because I couldn't do well during the individual leagues.
I thought that putting all my effort practicing without rest, putting up good results during Proleague and achieving the most wins record would be enough to guarantee me the award. So how upset do you think I am to realize that a whole year's worth of effort would all be for nothing just because of my poor results in the individual leagues.
I'd have to admit that JangBi did win the OSL very nicely. It made me very jealous and also want to hurry up and make it to the OSL Finals. It was definitely motivation.
Although JangBi did very well, it would be really nice if I received the Protoss Award. If in fact I do not, I'm definitely going to be very upset with my individual league performance. Next season, I guarantee to show you good results in both Proleague and the individual leagues.
DES: The OSL must be very meaningful to you. Bisu: It's a dream. I've had the chance to place my lips on the MSL Trophy Cup but never on the OSL Trophy Cup. When I see others kissing the cup, I start to dream of myself one day having the opportunity. Other people view Top Tier players receiving that kind of prize to be a simply dream, but to me it is a huge deal. I really want to kiss that trophy next season.
DES: Your connection to Jaedong has been somewhat of a hot topic. Have you two been getting closer? Bisu: It is hard to get closer to him. There wasn't really an opportunity. I don't have very many close friends on Hwaseung and neither does Jaedong on SKT. There aren't very many opportunities for us to get to know each other and since we both have personalities that don't initiate friendships, it was hard to get closer to each other.
But thanks to Super Junior's KyuHyun, we now sometimes contact each other. Although I do enjoy the casual drink, I was shocked to see Jaedong drinking. Since we are the same age, and now that we are somewhat comfortable around each other, I think over time we will get closer.
DES: You often say that you are awkward around people, not just Jaedong, and I'm wondering how you are nowadays. Because I cannot imagine you being a shy and awkward person. Bisu: Before, it wasn't so much that I was shy and awkward that I didn't make friends but more because I practiced all the time except for eating and sleeping and didn't have time to make friends. Now? I'm quite friendly! (laughs) I usually get along better with people are funny. That's why I'm quite close to Hyuk-hyung.
DES: From now on, I will ask questions from the fans. Is there any country you want to visit? Bisu: Hawaii in America. (laughs) For some reason it just seems different from the places I've been to. I enjoy resorts more than I enjoy being a tourist. And I think it will really feel like a vacation because of the long plane ride. To be honest, they promised to send us to Hawaii if we came first but because we came second and couldn't go, I feel quite disappointed.
DES: Are you doing and particular exercising these days? Bisu: I'm running on the treadmill quite a bit. (laughs) I'm starting to feel like I'm losing my stamina. Before I used to be one of the last ones practicing, sometimes until 4 AM but nowadays I'm one of the first to leave my computer. It was getting difficult to keep myself at the computer. But the running machine is really helping with my stamina.
DES: It's currently time to be testing the new maps for next season and people are wondering how it looks for protoss. Bisu: (Sigh) It's doesn't look good. [T/N: I thought he wanted to do really next season and he tells us that the maps aren't in his favour o.o] They probably will balance it out but right now there are many maps with naturals that are hard to SimCity [T/N: Like python.. like 10 pylons....] and there aren't very many maps with open centers. There always seems to be some map building. In addition, there are many naturals with cliffs vulnerable to Terran and Zerg attacks. At this point there are only about 2 maps where Protoss is favoured. I'm really hoping for many changes.
DES: What is the first thing you look at when you meet someone? Bisu: Well.. First I will take a quick glance at the person as a whole, then after I check out their face, I look at their legs. [T/N: because Bisu, like all koreans, are very fixated on height] It sounds kind of funny now that I've said it. I just like a fun person. That's why I'm really close to Hyuk-hyung.
DES: I'm a little sorry to ask this but because of your big nose, you've received the nickname "코택용". [T/N: Translates to Nose-Bisu] Bisu: HAHAHA! (After laughing for a while, he takes a look in the mirror fixating on his nose) To be honest, my nose isn't THAT big. (He looks at me for agreement) Right? My nose does seem to look big on TV and in pictures. But I don't think it's too ugly to look at. (laughs) It's not like I have to look good for anyone, and besides, Plastic Surgery hurts. (laughs)
Thank you OpticalShot for translating the next 3 questions! DES: You're known for not treating out your teammates [to food/drinks]. Bisu: Well it's not like I don't try. Our house cook lady always prepares meals for us when we're in, and during holidays, a lot of people leave to spend time with their friends and families. It's like even if I wanted to, I can't!
DES: Then, maybe you could say next holiday that "I'll treat you guys out so don't go anywhere." Bisu: Uhhh, actually I need to catch up on my sleep in the holidays. I need to recharge.
DES: That sounds like a cheap excuse (laughs). Bisu: Hey, I'm being honest here. After I won the recent IEF, I actually promised [my teammates] that I'd treat them out but the winnings haven't been deposited into my account yet. See, I have a valid reason for everything.
DES: If you do change over you starcraft 2, would you continue to play protoss? Bisu: If you're asking for my opinion, then no. Reviews seem to be calling it Terran-World. It'd be nice if they worked on the balance a little bit. If Terran continues to win like this, who is going to play that game? If you're going to make Protoss such a weak race, might as well get rid of it. It's quite saddening. But, if I had to make the switch to Starcraft 2, I probably would play Protoss. (laughs)
DES: Here's a interesting question. What kind of voice do you like? Bisu: I don't really have any interest in a guy's voice. (laughs) For girls, even though it may not really be who they are, they should have a little 애교 [T/N: Specific korean word meaning cute/baby talk] mixed in with their voice. I usually prefer the cute girls, but I find that a girl who has a more mature face, or gentle face, but can throw in some 애교, can still get my attention. As you can see, I like the cute girls.
DES: Any recent movies you've seen? Bisu: Avatar. I usually don't remember movies I watch in theatre. (laughs)
DES: How high does you APM go when you are controlling 5 different things at once? Bisu: I'm quite shamed when this topic comes up. When Coach iloveoov said that, he just meant that it seems like I'm thinking about 5 things at once because of the way my screen moves. It's not actually possible to control 5 things at once. (laughs) Usually my APM is around 300 but I do think it is faster when I'm playing against Zergs. I don't know exactly how much it is though.
DES: People are wondering about your reaver and carrier control Bisu: I still find reaver control quite difficult but I have confidence in my carrier control now. (laughs) People will probably laugh after hearing me say that. Regardless, I do find that my reaver control requires a lot of work but I can safely say that I think my carrier control is quite good now.
DES: There are quite a bit of teenagers that are interviewed that praise your name. What do you think when you see those interviews? Bisu: To be honest, I feel proud. (laughs) That just means I've done quite a bit.
DES: What will you do if you start to show good results in the individual leagues after coming back from Thailand? Bisu: If in fact that superstition is created, I will use my own money to visit Thailand before every individual league. Since I just got back, maybe this can help me realize that individual leagues aren't that difficult. I really hope so..
DES: How would you describe your attractiveness in 5 letters. Bisu: HAHAHAHA. How am I supposed to answer this? uh hung uh hung hung [T/N: Just weird noises] (laughs)
DES: You're now 23 and you should probably have thoughts about this and that Bisu: Honestly, there are quite a bit of things I think about. At my age, I want to be in a relationship and comfortably relax. There are times when I wish I was "normal" person at my age. When I want to have fun in the future, I'll probably reach an age where I just can't and so I feel a little disappointed about that.
The very sad part is, that most other sports, when a player has a girlfriend, it doesn't affect their skill and talent too much. But for eSports, when a player gets a girlfriend, their results decline so it's just best not to date. This situation really frustrates me. At my age, I should really be in a relationship with a girl. Progamers aren't machines and so it's not like we don't want a relationship.
But regardless, I am a progamer. I may feel like I missed out at times but there are things I gain from being a progamer so I catch that train of thought and return to practicing hard. Now? I just want to train hard so I can produce good results during the proleague and individual leagues.
DES: Lastly, please describe your future dream to the fans. Bisu: Seems like meditating gurus. (laughs) Well obviously, my first dream is to win an OSL title. You can probably tell how much an OSL title would mean to me. (laughs)
As a progamer, you tend to dream of continuing your career in your 30s. I do have confidence that I can continue to do well in my 30s. I don't know how it will actually be but for now, I have confidence. (laughs) Personally, I want to go to the army at 29 and into my 30s achieve my progamer dream.
Also, I want to be considered one of the best progamer's in history. I guess if I want my name to be well know in eSports, I'll have to be at the top once again.
If I can make my place in the memory of those fans who love eSports as a top Tier player, then there really isn't much else I can ask for is there? Please wait to enjoy the new and improved Bisu next season.
DES: There is a lot of discussion on the format of Proleague. What are your thoughts on the subject? Bisu: Firstly, I think it's best to keep the 7set format but have the team prepare for only one match a week. Before it wasn't too difficult to keep up with 3 matches a week. So in addition to trying to balance individual leagues and proleague, I think 1 game a week is the most efficient format.
Even Bisu agrees that PL format should be Bo7, 1 game a week per team.
Well, for any ladies attending Blizzcon... you'll need to be tall, have a mature or gentle face, and also be able to throw in that aegyo every now and then to attract Bisu's attention. Good luck!
Omg I just realized what a big nose he actually has
fml me I can't unsee it now.
I am also slightly worried about Protoss for the next season if what he says is true(about the maps).
I am not a huge fan of Bisu but he should get the Protoss award of the year, yes he sucks in Individual league but the guy won 63 fcking PL matches, made 3(or was it 4) golden AKs and all kinds of sheninigans. Jangbi was in a slump for alot of the 2010-2011 season and ended up winning the OSL, but I think Bisu's accomplishment is much larger.

Awwww, Bisu wants to be in love, but his love for ESPORTS success is unfortunately in the way. Kinda reminds me of when I heard that Stork's girlfriend broke up with him right before his last OSL finals with Fantasy. Dunno how much that affected his 0:3 loss to Fantasy, but I certainly felt sad for Stork.
DES: If you do change over you starcraft 2, would you continue to play protoss? Bisu: If you're asking for my opinion, then no. Reviews seem to be calling it Terran-World. lol sorry I just had to quote this. Comon Blizzard, if Bisu is even saying so, I hope you guys there are listening to him. His words carry weight.
On topic though, Bisu, if you put your mind to it, I'm sure you can make OSL finals. Do it with MSL first though
Really nice interview, just as cool as the EffOrt one. I call showmatch between them! Please? I kind of miss watching BW and November seems so far away T.T
Oh my god, thank you so much for this! I'd been trying to read it through bit by bit over the last few days, but it's so much easier with a translation.
And aww... bb your nose is the perfect size. I really hope this OSL will be yours at last. May Thailand once again give you its blessing and give you back to back golds. I'll always root for you. Taekyong fighting~ <3
It's interesting to hear the players thoughts about the format. As a new/casual viewer I agree with him. I also like that he wants to keep playing for many more years..very cool to see the players are so passionate about what they do.
and this: DES: How would you describe your attractiveness in 5 letters. Bisu: HAHAHAHA. How am I supposed to answer this? uh hung uh hung hung [T/N: Just weird noises] (laughs)
so funny... rofl!!!
and awww for bisu for getting frustrated if he doesn't win the protoss award this year. he has a good point though, i hope he wins it. he deserves it better than jangbi. imo, fantasy is simply an epic fail that's why jangbi won.

Even though I am KT fan but Hyuk is funny in my opinion. Go to their website and watch the video, you can see how funny is he especially when he with afrotoss
By the way, thank you rslee for translating. I.m really appreciate it.

jangbi wins the osl by his own effort and won it fair and square . I won't be surprised if jangbi is awarded the best protoss these year .
I bet a ton of people are going to misread the SC2 question and think he's going to switch. He definitely has no intention in switching and only answered the question as a "if I definitely had to switch, I would play Protoss".
I find some of his answers contradictory though. He seems to find it hard to keep practicing and wants to do other things but then says he wants good results as well. Hope he can finally win an OSL
Pretty nice interview, thanks. As a Bisu anti-fan this is what I got : -he does seem to agree that Best in PL finals was the better choice. Well, hard to say as I don't believe he would have said something like "yeah the coach was wrong, I am angry", but there seems to be a lack of confidence... -he obviously deserves the Protoss award. -he's pretty right when it comes to girlfriend -I think he lacks confidence. He's obviously one of the best player around, but he does need to fix his mental. -No SC2 anytime soon it seems =)

Of course. There is no doubt Jangbi deserves his OSL gold. The question is whether a victory after two months of OSL is worth more than an entire YEAR worth of amazing results, consistency, and effort in proleague, with a record shattering 63 wins. I love both players, but Jangbi already has his OSL gold to prove his skill and make him feel good. Meanwhile... Bisu doesn't really have anything to show for all his hard work, except another proleague silver

okay I take it back the bisu must get the protoss award ^^

DES= You are infamous for not 쏘기 [T/N: Korean word where one invite people at restaurant and pay for entire amount]. Why is that?
Bisu: Even if I want to do that there isn't much opportunity since we earn our money individually. Lunch lady makes food for us and we can't just not eat what she cooks for us. Moreover at the weekends everyone goes out to play so it is impossible for me to get them together for me to pay.
DES= Well then you could say 'Stay here. We'll go to restaurant today, and it's on me.'
Bisu: I sleep a lot, so I have to sleep throughout the weekend in order to alleviate the fatigue.
DES= Sounds like cheap excuse *laugh*
Bisu: I'm speaking only the truth here. After winning IEF I said on the interview that I was going to 쏜다, but since prize money haven't arrived yet I cannot do that yet. You see, there is a good reason for everything.
Tried my hand at translating those three questions, I cannot guarantee the quality though since I am new at this. Also potential content mutation.
Seriously though, if Bisu wins the next OSL, I'm coining him Thai Toss and every .gif/pic will be editted to show Bisu as an ancient Thai warrior (headband, fist wraps, all) in an epic Muay Thai pose.
Thanks for the translation! This was a great interview that touched a lot of 'controversial' points (PL finals, individual league vs. team league, etc.). and I think Bisu gave many interesting answers. I like this new, more talkative Bisu. (Or maybe he was like this all along and I just haven't noticed?)
You heard it from the man himself, fangirls and fanboys. Time to practice your aegyo cuteness for Blizzcon!

Hell yes.
sort of redundant seeing as bisus dont go well with OSLs

Indeed I am laughing Bisu, cant wait to see that new and improved carrier control in action
Gotta love the Hyuk reference. I hope Bisu and Hyuk can play in one of the series stages in this OSL. Hyuk actually have the 4th best ZvP elo after Jaedong, Hydra and Zero, and he also knows Bisu's style. I think it would be a nice series, and it would be a nice change for Hyuk since he always gets eliminated by Fantasy.
These interviews do seem unusually candid; good answer to the PL GF question, Bisu. Still would've preferred you to be sent out, though. Next PL season and OSL gonna be awesome
It's good that Bisu is aware of the things and trying to improve. And about that Protoss award thing, I like the cocky Bisu ^^ Indeed, he should get it.

He doesn't like "tall girls", he's looking at height of anyone he meets in general.
Can't wait for the improved Bisu next season, I hope I don't regret getting him in my Fantasy PL next season. Cheering for him to win next OSL!! Bisu fighting!!
Definitely one of the better progamer interviews, and fits nicely in this great void of nothingness before the next BW season starts. Thanks a lot for translating!

No worries. It's not going to be featured on the Community News.
I would like to see a Bisu-Jangbi rivalry next season please.
these kinds of pics happen way too often.
The caption on the picture was something like "when's the ball coming?". Bisu is not the most athletic person... to say the least. But I guess that's part of his "charm".
Its always nice to have a Bisu interview, but this one in particular was fairly good. I like that he is becoming more and more outspoken. I am looking forward to Bisu kicking some serious rear-end this season, especially in the individual leagues! I hope he gets the best toss award, but I wouldn't be disappointed if Jangbi got it either, both had a hell of a season.
Possibly the best Bisu interview to date; wet dreams about trophy kissing, map whining and a goal to become a 30 year old progamer. Bisu got the next OSL, hands down
thanks so much for this. i love bisu, he is my idol and inspirtation for protoss even in sc2 i think to bisu when i wanna do well.
although this upsets me:

quick blizz, nerf terran so he can make the switch
i hope he gets his OSL next season, i wanna see him at his prime again, i feel like he is deffinitely on the up again after his slump last year,
and if u ever read this bisu, ur far too modest, u r already a historical name in esports, u revolutionised PvZ against savior for christs sake
Oh man thanks so much for the translation. Been so BW deprived ever since the OSL ended. Bisu gave a really nice interview there. He seemed to be very at ease and spoke his mind freely.
That was I think the most personable interview I have seen from Bisu (and most progamers in general) I always though Bisu was shy but he sounds kinda cute and funny here =) Thanks for putting it up!
It does seem like the offseason has made Bisu come out of his shell a bit. Nice interview and great translation.
I'm surprised that Bisu said he now has good carrier micro but horrible reaver micro. I personally can't do either, but I'd have thought reaver micro is the micro-intensive one(something Bisu's great at) while carrier micro is more about understanding PvT, positioning, etc. Which Bisu isn't great at.

First, let me get this out of my system:
Excuse me? In what way is Bisu, aka The Revolutionist, with his FUCKING GOLDEN BADGE, undervalued and without major awards? He may have not won a personal title this year, but undervalued? SERIOUSLY? He's considered the best Protoss of all times for crying out loud!
Whew, sorry about that. Awesome interview, thanks for the translation.
GOGOGO BISU!!!! AHHH NEED MORE BROOD WAR!!!! I know I've maybe asked this before, or at least some one has, but when is MSL if it starts again??? Cause this MSL was going to be Bisu's!!!!
He actually comes across quite likeable in this interview. He probably wanted to say he deserves the Protoss award more than Jangbi but ended up not to
I am also slightly worried about Protoss for the next season if what he says is true(about the maps).
well to be fair he always complains about maps
Yeah, its not as if he gave any logical reasoning for why they'd be bad for protoss! pfft what a whiner!
No he did and it's probably fair and justified, it's just that he's known to always complain about maps (which, again, is fair most of the time, but still)

Yeah i know its just frustrating that some people shrug it off as 'just bisu whining' just because he's one of the only pros not scared to have an opinion
Bisu is one OSL win from joining the accomplishments of BW legends imo.
But reading the interview is kinda sad. I doubt he is going to play Starcraft 2, or if he is, not anywhere near the level good enough to compete. I think he rather have a girlfriend than continue his life as a progamer if he makes the switch.
It's funny, but when I look at the replays I have of him on BWChart, his matches against Protoss and Terran are around 300 - 360, but his matches against Jaedong have him shoot up to 370 - 400.

Every progamer complains about maps, Flash included

jaedong didn't complain about the maps when he lost to flash 3 times in a row in starleague finals due to heavily terran favored maps
I'm so glad this has been bumped, I missed a few sex-deprived Bisu Gems "As you can see, I like the cute girls." "The very sad part is, that most other sports, when a player has a girlfriend, it doesn't affect their skill and talent too much. But for eSports, when a player gets a girlfriend, their results decline so it's just best not to date. This situation really frustrates me. At my age, I should really be in a relationship with a girl. Progamers aren't machines and so it's not like we don't want a relationship." ... something about overly high APM requirements, what ..... Attention Per Minute requirements 'aight.
Wow what an amazing game.......I was entirely entranced watching it. Had me on the edge of my seat and then TaekShin pulls out that sick clutch move and completely 180s the game
