Recently the KPGA finals is becoming the cause of much discussion.
Despite having planned to hold the tournmanent outdoors, the MBCGame staff hadn't thought about the effect the sun could have till the game started. I suppose that goes for the two player's teams too -_-
Anyway, the finals were delayed for around 40 minutes because Boxer sat down to discover some unbearably bad glare on his moniter from the sun.
So, Boxer tried some different moniters, changed his position some, and eventually played with a black bag on top of his moniter.
Someone on KTF had some sunglasses, good thing for yellow -.-
Other than that, there's always the suspicion that the players could hear the announcers. Lacking the sealed chambers of OGN, the players rely only on their headphones to block out outside sounds.
In a post regarding the finals, Yellow stated that he didn't hear a thing outside the sound from his headphones.
So people are flaming the hell out of MBCGame as of now :o

Hahaha, wtf were they thinking playing outside? :D
all tournaments should really have sealed chambers or something. even the slightest chance of someone hearing something is so bad
... yellow was able to hear the announcers and boxer really tryed to rush ?? "ooohh prox barracks, looks like hardrush " ....

now i know why he lost >_<

Ok, they cannot hear the announcers but what about the audience?? You notice that something's going on when you see them screaming or jumping, don't you?
screaming and jumping i think that does the opposite of helping
it doesn't help if you're trying to be cute, but if you aren't doing anything unusual and the crowd is gasping, personally i'd do some scouting, wouldn't you?
ya the if you hear a loud mumur in the croud you can assume your opponet is not just sitting there...they are obviously trying something
Although you COULD get some ideas of the crowd screaming "GO BOXER GO!", at least I would still try to concentrate in the game... I don't think either of these players look around or try to hear what the crowd has to say - vice versa, I think they're trying to ignore it as much as possible to give all their concentration to the game.
playing outside^^ nice idea. but this brings many complications with it. not only the sun...what if boxer gets stung by a bee in the hand and can't play on :o, or female birds try to nest on yellow's hair (you know what's the deal with girls and yellow )? would the match have to be replayed? is boxer allergic to bees...and could yellow resist the temptation? omg i need some rest...

black bag.... talk about low tech solutions :O
heh, I doubt they cheated.... they must concentrate on game 100% to stand a chance vs eachother.
i always wondered about that. what if someone turns their sound down so they can hear? i mean i personally dont play with sound, i think its annoying and it cripples my playing -.-b i assume they force u to use sound? gay. what a crappy excuse for boxer though. sun glare. i mean cmon. if the bag blocked it out then there is no excuse. it couldnt have made so much of a difference that he lost 3 games -.-v
I'll bet Yellow pretend sneezed and learned to read lips, so he sneezed and looked around and one of his spys mouthed to him 'PROXY RUSH.' Well, in Korean.
that was so gay. I bet those lazy bums at MBAgame never held a rehearsal, or never sat down at the gamers' seats at the time the game was supposed to be held.
that black stupid bag is a disgrace for boxer.
if i played boxer, saw the crowd screaming and shit, i'd leave the game

Ah so that's why Boxer lost

100% agreed about the crowd affecting things. Hell if I was a progamer, I'd plant audience members to give me specific signals. Like 5 stand up and one sit down in a specific pattern if he's going mutas, or lurkers, or rush or whatever. You could basically map hack doing stuff like that. Thats why they played in those little spaceship looking things for ogn finals, because not only are they soundproof, but also tinted from the inside so that the player cannot see outside of it at all.
You call that map-hacking? I'd get all my friends/admirers/professional betters to fill the entire audience, and have them simulate the mini-map for me hah
rofl , but it would be obvious if you were always glancing from your computer screen. That is why elky has such an advantage with his sunglasses, he can cheat w/ out being caught.

i dont think you are able to watch closely what the aduience is doing .. i played some wwcl games with aduiences and you are COMPLETLY concentrating on your game, cause if you wouldnt, you build hell of a shit
yeah but even if u concentrate on your game you will here them cheering everytime ur opponent does something really really strange
mmh well .. on the wwcl finals, there wasnt that many people who cared about broodwar so it wasnt really that loud, but still made me feel uncomfortable :o
It's a World Wide Conspiracy to make me lose the LiquiBet
I feel your pressence...

Hmmm, interesting point. It did seem a bit suspicious that Yellow just happened to discover Boxer's proxy rax in game 4 just after the announcers started SCREAMING about it at the top of their lungs.
On the other hand, it's not like Yellow was unprepared for that kind of stuff from Boxer anyway. Hong's been on the receiving end way too many times. Also, the fact that Boxer tried a proxy rax at all should indicate that he didn't feel the announcers and/or the crowd were being a factor.
Yellow just read Boxer all the way on Saturday and outplayed him. GG. Anyway, OGN still rules when it comes to putting on a final.
No offence guys but this is really annoying.. you find something that COULD POSSIBLY hinder boxer, and you immediately blame the tournament, and that it was 'unfair'... maybe Yellow had glare too.. maybe he just didn't complain about it.. maybe boxer heard stuff from the announcers about yellow.. theres lots of 'possibilities' but we reallt don't know for sure - thus we should stop 'guessing' what happened and just enjoy the results? Yellow is not chobo u know..
yes <3 OGN
I thought this was KPGA. --a
it was. hes implying that OGN is better -.-v i agree though I mean i watched the VODs and with all the people beating their sticks and pointing and screaming and what not and youre outside. it's all relative. What makes you think this only affected boxer's play? quit trying to find excuses for boxer to finally lose to yellow -.-v GG
vods ?? where ??? i wanna see them too 8[
see wax's post about the vods.
Yellow hacked. End of story.
But how can I get the rihgt address to download the VODs? Anyone delighted to do that? Thx 2 much.
boxer was drugged... yellow tinkered w/ boxers mouse... boxer ate bad sushi the night before...
:\

Glare at your screen can TOTALLY throw you off balance. It can mess up your whole game even if it seems not that bad. The fact that the final started 40 minutes later because of the sun shining at Boxers screen and that he was playing with a bag on his monitor clearly shows there was indeed a (big) problem concerning the glare. Whether it bothered Boxer alot can only he himself know, but the bag shows that it can't/shouldn't be denied that it was bothering him atleast a bit. How much differs for each and every person.
While I do think the glare effected his game, I don't believe the crowd could be heard by Yellow. If this was the case then why would Boxer do such a 'hack sensitive strat' in game two. He's too smart not to know you can't do stuff like that when the audience can be heard.
Glare: Yes. Bothersome? Maybe. Crowd: No.
