One man. One proleague. A million games. Can he cast them all? .. Follow the drama at twitch.tv/saylesc - Skeggaba
Ladies and gentlemen, the time has come! The new season of Proleague is upon us, and as promised, I will be casting it in English!
So, the Proleague schedule is currently set to one match per day on Monday/Tuesday, and two matches per day on Saturday/Sunday. The times of the matches are a lot earlier than previous seasons, so I unfortunately won't be able to do any of them live. However, I will do all casts on the same day of the broadcast. So, my current plan is to do the casts at the following times:
All VODs will be uploaded to my youtube channel: www.youtube.com/saylebw If all goes well, the VODs from each day's cast should go up within 24 hours after the stream ends, so people who miss the 'live' cast won't have to wait long. I will make spoiler-free VOD posts in this thread and keep an updated list of links to those posts in the post below this one.
Hopefully I've covered everything for now. Please do voice any concerns/suggestions you may have. BW hwaiting~!

Well spotted. I think I'll have to just use the twitch.tv VODs from one of the restreamers. It won't be the greatest quality, but as long as there's no further quality reduction on my end, it will be the same quality as the live viewers watched, which is fine with me.

or you know, you could ask moktira or I believe nukethestars gets his from BaeZZi/Jon747, not sure of that but still its worth a shot.
Sounds awesome! I will definitely tune in a few times but the Korean commentary is definitely my go-to choice. The only thing I'd suggest changing or re-thinking is this:
On November 17 2011 22:23 Sayle wrote: I will only be doing one of the two matches on Saturdays/Sundays Which match I cast will be determined by a poll in this thread.
What if SKT vs. KT and Team8 vs. Khan happen on the same day? My suggestion would be to choose from all 4 matches in the poll, instead of 2x2.
There's of course the obvious downside of both poll winning matches possibly being on Sunday... Anyway, good luck!

Obviously I will check nevake/Jon747/small VOD thread first, but given the time frame, I don't know if the higher quality VODs will be out in time. On Tuesdays/Wednesdays, I will start my cast 13 hours after the live broadcast, and on the weekends I will start 9 hours after the broadcast. I don't know how long it takes moktira to work his magic. If he can actually get the VODs up in that time, that would be fantastic.
This is great as someone who understands the basics but not the high end strategy this would be really beneficial. I watch bw now and again and after watching jangbi vs fantasy (??). I promised to watch all the bw I could and with it English will really help my understanding. Cheers for this sayle!!
You're more or less saving my grades Sayle, many thanks ! I love korean commentary, but as anybody that has watched you the past few month, I know you'll do great =)
This is great! Hopefully it will act as a portal for people who aren't really into BW yet but are curious about it. ^__^
I'll try to catch as many games as possible live though, but this is splendiferous if I miss 'em. And I might tune in even if I've already watched them if they're good games. :D
sounds good :O hopefully u get a good source ^_^ need to find someone with a stable connection to OGN to cap the stream and upload to rapidshare or something
This will be a nice thing to offer to the community, I will tune into it when there was an insane match played, other then that I plan to watch as many PL games live as I can. Thank you for attempting this Sayle.
Ive never actually follow sayle that much because I barely wacth streams But I guess is never too late !! Go sayle w8.. do you even have a youtube channel or u just gonna stream it xD
I 100% support your project but i will only watch it if you promise to not go high pitch voice and not try to impersonate korean commentators like you used to (it's so annoying).
Just to be extra clear: I will only be doing ONE of the two matches per day on Saturday/Sunday, and the one I do will be determined by a poll in this thread. Some people seemed to have missed that (hi SNM), so I underlined it in the OP

I have to second this. It's really not my cup of tea, but no judging here.
I cant even imagine the amout of work it will require, and still you are doing it from true love for the game and its pro sceene. So love you for this and for giving a hand in keeping the BW sceene alive. Big Respect!!!
Awesome....I love the enthusiasm of the Korean Casters...unfortunately that is all I can get out of it. With english commentary it always feels like I can learn more from watching.
oh yeah this is really cool ! also your scheduling is perfct, broodwar in the evenings in a stressfull week works wonders 22 cet is perfect timing big up sayle !
This is particularly sweet for people coming over from SC2. English casting really helped me figure out a lot when I first started watching BW. Particularly things about teams, players, and certain styles.
Sayle, you're a total champ. Really appreciate what you're doing for the BW scene (you and hacklebeast). This should especially be useful for all the SC2 guys interested in checking out BW.
On November 18 2011 00:48 Modesty00 wrote: I hope he will learn zergs builds at least or will not watching o0
I will poke some high level zergs to teach me ZvZ at least. Turns out that matchup is a bit too subtle for me to learn just by watching/casting lots of games.

The high pitch voice is usually not intentional, it just happens when I get surprised. If it helps though, I promise to try to go through puberty faster. For the Korean impersonations, it seems that the majority of people like those. I have been going a bit overboard with them recently though, so I'll try to tone it down.
On November 18 2011 11:13 rplant wrote: What do you plan to do with the original audio? Are unit sounds and the Korean commentary audible in your broadcasts?
Yes, I will turn them down but keep them audible. It might take a cast or two for me to find a good balance between myself and the korean audio. I did cast a couple of PL finals a while ago, and it seemed to work with those.
On November 21 2011 20:26 nitdkim wrote: how about recording audio seperately so that you can sync it later when the koreans upload the torrent?
I'll investigate how easy/time-consuming this is. If it doesn't require too much more time or effort from me, I'll try to do this and upload the higher quality VODs. I'm already spending a lot of time just casting though (it will actually be about 25 hours per week with PL, GC2, aNW and GosuCup), so this is low on the priority list.
Almost forgot the poll for this weekend's cast. I will be doing SKT vs Team 8 on Saturday. Which match should I do for Sunday? (Thanks to kuroshiroi for the suggestion to include 3 matches in the Sunday poll)
Poll added to the post below OP as well.
Poll: Which match to cast?
Stars vs Khan (53)
50%
STX vs CJ (27)
26%
KTF vs Ace (25)
24%
105 total votes
Your vote: Which match to cast?
(Vote): KTF vs Ace (Vote): STX vs CJ (Vote): Stars vs Khan
Sayle, that is great AND time-consuming idea, so I wish you perseverance. Have you considered to do dual/triple commentaries in the future? Anyway (we) thumbs up and (you) prepare for +1000 viewers. As you won't be casting all the matches, can you give the link to original sources you will use (I guess I am getting little overexcited here )
Sayle, will you be submitting events to the calendar? I don't think you actually fulfil the requirements posted in the thread but if day9 and SOTG get to be on the calendar, you should too. Maybe you should send Chill a pm or something and see what's up? Assuming, of course, you haven't already done so

Thanks for reminding me about this. I'll fill in an application now. I'll probably title them "[SPL] SKT vs Team 8 English Re-broadcast" or something like that. Anyway, first cast is tomorrow at 2pm CET! Super pumped, but I have a lot of reading to do to make sure I'm not completely clueless about the players/teams :D

Luckily your research is made simple with plenty of hype and analysis articles.
I can sometimes feel a bit lonely while watching proleague/osl/msl when there's no one else to listen to but the korean commentators so this will be awesome.
Holy god damn, I actually forgot this was going on, now i'm even more hyped for Proleague :O I will miss the korean casters somewhat, but if it means listening to sayle i'm more than happy to sacrifice a few things.
Oh man can't wait to sit down and watch these. I need those Korean commentators live methinks just to hear the camaraderie but I'm so tuning in to watch this kind of thing from VoDs
Jizz i was pretty bummed about missing pro league because of work,b ut i just get home now and see in 5 hours there will be english rebroadcast nice =]
they aren't my vods, took the link from the post GTR made, just put it here so sayle wouldn't try and cast from a twitchl.tv vod or something that might have heaps of buffer and shit
Well thanks for the link and thanks to whoever uploaded. I'd just thought I'd mention the issue, because I kept hoping it would somehow fix itself as I was watching, and it doesn't.
Hyde, I'll consider it, but it seems pretty easy just to mouse over the event and see what it is o_o Also, since this will be a regular thing, hopefully people will get used to the rebroadcast being at that time
Thanks Kiante for the VODs. I don't think the audio sync will be too big an issue since it'll just be on low volume in the background anyway.
yeah to be honest the rebroadcast isnt exactly prime time for eur/america, yanks are sleepign and euros doing day business, mor peeps would see in evening
On November 26 2011 20:25 BroodWarHD wrote: yeah to be honest the rebroadcast isnt exactly prime time for eur/america, yanks are sleepign and euros doing day business, mor peeps would see in evening
I already have Nation Wars on Saturday evenings and GosuCup on Sunday evenings. The weekday rebroadcasts will be at a better time, but I can't do anything about the weekend ones. I will have VODs up within 24 hours though, so you can watch those if you don't catch it live.
As your knowledge of the korean scene needs to improve a little bit (sure it will get better soon) you might want to get a sidekick for some games, for players playstyle and stuff. Maybe Kona. You doing very well though :D
Can I say that I think it may be worth waiting for the Vods/Reps files? I mean its nice to get them fast but having things like seeing shots of the crowd during the game while mutas were harassing was really kinda annoying.
The crowd shots adds another level of excitement to the game. The camera control used to be a lot worse a few years ago, showing crowd shots at the most inopportune moment, and continuing to do it during the game.

Welcome to Broodwar, where Koreans actually show up to the games and silly crowd shots are half the fun.
Sayle: can you put the VOD in a way we dont get spoiled because if i go on your channel i'll know how many games were played no? If you could show them like on the small vod thread with anti spoiler tags it would be better.
I believe there was a spoiler at the beginning of the ACE-KT match for SKT-KT. It might be a good idea to put a note in the youtube video and in this thread after uploading the VODs, so that people don't get the game spoiled. The commentary was superb as always by the way.

I do that for every event I cast and will do that for this as well
VOD posts will be made in this thread, and I will put links to those posts in the 2nd post after the OP.
<3 Sayle for this though I've been wanting an english cast of the games for EVER, even if I am vested in SC2 now. I WILL watch these games becasue I <3 Sayle's casting
Thank you so much for this. Ever since Gomtv Classics and the gg.net guys dried up, there's been a big threshold gap to anyone trying to join BW for the first time. You have to be really dedicated to watch a game in a foreign language when you're just getting into it. Even for myself, I had a harder time watching all the time without English commentators.
And ever since I've heard and seen you casting, I've been wanting you to do this on a consistent basis. I'm definitely going to be watching a lot more BW!
I watched your cast during weekend, to say the least its amazing, i mean the time and effort you put into these is just pure awesome. Also the time you stream is perfect for me on weekends Hope you keep this up and get a bit more into fantasy teams ^^ GJ <3 U
Thank you very much for spending your time on these videos, I am just really starting with the pro league. I am very happy that there is English now, Thanks alot!!!! <3
1045 viewers top on a MF monday. God i love this. Also: beautiful calls. "thats gonna be a gas steal" "carriers" and so on. Getting pretty pro this kid. Cya tomorrow all!
EDIT: Ok maybe not the carriers-call, that was easy. But outcome of battles and such.
awesome cast as usual. will tune in for more since its in a decent timeslot and us really enjoyable to watch. Also helps newcommers into sc:bw which is always good

Yeah, I chuckled when he called carriers, because on Sea vs Stats vod you can see carriers before you even start it. I got spoiled by that :/
Nonetheless, awesome job today and seeing 1000+ viewers makes me believe that there are a lot of SC2 converters joining in on the BW fun
One suggestion for future casts, Sayle. Have BW music playing in the background. BW music improves everything, even your already stellar cast
I miss having background music when I occasionally watch SC2 casts (since apparently all I'm supposed to hear are the casters :| ) and I definitely missed it a bit in your cast. It shouldn't drown you out or anything but I should still be able to hear it when you're casually talking about stuff. When you're excited, it should not. I don't know, maybe mixing your voice with music is really hard and this suggestion is doomed for the beginning. Anyway.

Thanks for still doing BW! Tuned in expecting not to like it, turned out you really entertained me so will definitely tune in more often even though I totally love the korean commentators as well.
Watched one game so far, and as per the usual with Sayle's work, it sucked.
Kidding! Loved watching my favorite player for my favorite team win in my least favorite matchup! Plan on watching pretty much all my Proleague this way now. More convenient/ I always love Sayle's commentary, so yay!
Thanks for the commentary, Sayle. I'm a noob to the BW professional scene, so having someone explaining the ins and outs of the game is pretty awesome. Just wondering if you'll continue this service for the star leagues (when are they starting, anyway?)
Hello Sayle. I want to thank you for your casting of this proleague. It helps me a lot to get my first glimpses of Korean pro-gaming SC:BW. Just watched Day 1 CJ vs STX. Got one question though concerning Modesty: Was it a typo that in the Korean mask it read Medesty? I was a bit confused there.
Anyways keep up the good work, I will catch up on the rest of the games.
Edit: In the game Jangbi vs Light. Didn't Jangbi gain more than just the 9 SCV kills and a siege tank? I mean, Light pulled of a dozen SCVs from mining and that'd put him behind economy-vise pretty much, right? You could've pointed that out.

Went to watch the latest batch today and it looks like they've been blocked due to copyright violations. Can't say I've ever encountered this before with SC vods, but I really hope you can get something worked out here one way or the other.

Yeah great to hear you cast tonight i was really worried, because to be honest PL is awesome, but hearing commentary in a language i can understand is priceless. I really hope you continue doing this much much <3 from Germany (22 CET dream time.)
Unfortunately, the VODs from yesterday's ACE vs T8 match have been blocked as well. Actually not all the VODs even got uploaded in the first place. It seems that Youtube revoked my ability to upload videos longer than 15 minutes, so the games longer than that were rejected. The games shorter than 15 minutes were uploaded and then blocked by IEG.
On December 07 2011 18:39 tiaz wrote: Grrr, I missed the broadcast so I need them VODS =((( Fuck IEG!
It's highly likely atm that IEG isn't the real IEG, given the speculation from dailyesports reporter (he told me that some other company runs the internet broadcasting/video rights, and states that this particular company should be the ones removing the videos, if at all. However, IEG showing up, instead of the company's name, as the company with copyrights seems slightly suspicious)
Then again, we don't know how nevake got the VODs unlocked/prevented them from getting removed.
Also Sayle, watch out before all your content gets deteled. Apparently, if you get a 3rd strike and if your video gets removed for 3rd time, you're done. Not sure if you can recover the videos either; your account just gets shut down.
On December 07 2011 18:36 Kiante wrote: what the fuck is this shit O.o can you email support or something? find out who these people are?
Wouldn't trust youtube on finding out who did it anyways. However, my guess is that if the blocks were legit, someone would show up soon and make an official statement about it or something.
As a temporary safety measure, I've deleted the CJ vs ACE and T8 vs ACE matches and changed all the other SPL videos to 'unlisted'. This should mean they won't show up in a standard Youtube search, but can still be viewed from the VOD posts in this thread. I'll try re-uploading the deleted sets as unlisted tonight and see if they still get flagged. If they don't, I will continue to use that method so people can at least watch VODs from this thread. If they're still flagged, I'll switch to blip.tv for the SPL VODs.
Looking at the SayleBW youtube channel I'm not seeing any Proleague games that were on there last week and I'm not seeing any new ones either. Any insight as to why that might be?

lol dude read the thread ^_^ IEG is claiming copyright, sayle had to take the vods down/unlist them so he's moving to blip. uploading takes time tho :O
Sorry guys, there will be a bit of delay on the VODs from yesterday's match (STX vs Stars) and the re-up for CJ vs ACE. I'm still sick so I just went straight to bed last night. Will try to get those VODs split/uploaded tonight.
Just watched yesterday's series and your commentary was great as always. Thanks for keeping it up despite all that copyright mess. As a side note: STX's Mini (the Protoss from the second set) was one of the two Protosses from the "STX in China" Replay Pack iirc. The other one was Trap I believe.
Sayle: Thank you very much for putting this up, clearly there's quite some effort behind this. I also noticed you corrected yourself and really progressed just within the space of the first broadcast. Great job, keep it up!!!
Casting is improving rapidly i must say. It´s always been good, but now its god. A wish: Do more dual-casts with elegant, you to goes together like a: Horse and carriage. It is also: an institute you cant disparage
The one critique i have is the chat. Yesterday there were like no class and a bunch of people spoiling the games. More mods perhaps? Cheers!
Enjoying these commentaries/rebroadcasts immensely. I'm such a BW noob I can't really keep up with the games without having someone explain them to me in a language I understand .
The one critique i have is the chat. Yesterday there were like no class and a bunch of people spoiling the games. More mods perhaps? Cheers!
It only takes one single man to spoil the results to hundreds of people in the chat, so no matter how many mods there are, this problem cant be solved unfortunately
Doing a great job on these ^_^ Just watched through them because I was bored, been able to watch them all live though so haven't been following as closely as I should. Super excited about KT vs SKT those games were siiiick.

I just reached the last set of STX vs Stars as well. It's still not loading, but you can watch it here. This is taken from Sayle's cast on Twitch TV. If you want to search it manually go to his channel on Twitch TV and open his rebroadcast of STX vs Stars and immediatelly go to Part 2 of the cast. It is just a few minutes into the game (Overlords still scouting). Take it up from there. ;-)
@Sayle Please keep going. Your commentating is good, the only thing I would recommend is to cut on the abbreviations and explain them some more. Thanks!
I love that you're doing this so much! It's so good!
One point about your comments in the KT vs SKT match: + Show Spoiler +
It doesn't matter whether they send out Flash in the 4th or 5th set. In fact it doesn't matter in which set they send him out at all. If Flash wins in the 4th set, it's still 2:2 and they have to send out a shit player in the 5th set. If they plan to send out Flash in the 5th set and the guy in the 4th set loses, KT were never going to win anyway. So lamenting the coaches choice is pointless.

Sayle, you're great, but you have this annoying habit of repeating a word or phrase 3-5 times in a row.
For example "Oh, is that probe stuck? lol (more like "lawl" is what you say), it is stuck. Oh lol. What are you doing probe? lol."
Also you force the korean terms too much. Like "plagu! plagu! plaguuuuuuu!", "shottaru" and "riba riba riba riba". Every now and then is fine, not every single time the unit is in the screen.
Other than that, you're a fenomenal caster and you've really sparked my interest in BW.

I need my English BW fix! <3
Sorry, but I am in Korea atm. Didn't get a chance to upload the last 2 casts before then
Are you planning on going back and doing casts for the couple of matches that have gone by or are you just going to stay current with your commentaries?

I'll write a blog about it tomorrow.

I don't think I'll be doing the matches I watched live. It kinda takes the fun out of it if I watched the games already, and it would also take a lot of extra time that I should be spending with my family. I don't even know if I can do streamed casts for the next couple of weeks while I'm at my parents' place due to the poor internet. I most likely cannot, which leaves either just doing Youtube casts (as originally planned) or dual-casting with someone who has a stream (Lokim).
The rebroadcasts will resume Saturday at 14 CET with SKT vs KT and Team 8 vs ACE!
Unfortunately, things didn't quite work out as I planned so I won't be doing any of the matches that were played while I was away. However, if there is a lot of demand for me to do some specific games, I may consider doing those (please post in this thread, possibly with a poll).

Why not do the highly recommended ones. There has been a number of poor quality games lately and there are some really epic ones. Just the the epic ones. Watched them all but I'll gladly watch again just for fun.
Like Hydra vs Best and/or FBH vs Zero. The 2nd game I've mentioned, if you haven't watched this already, is really epic. Actions all around, even the pro-observer was having a hard time spectating the game. lol

Which games are highly recommended?
I've missed like 3 weeks worth of games, so I'm not going to just go through the LR threads and do all the recommended games. I still have all my regular events to do, so there won't be enough time for that. I'm looking to do 2-3 extra games tops.
Yayy! I've missed you~ ^^ I think I won't have to wake up at 6am anymore either to catch the rebroadcast. Oh wait... Nvm, I still do. Curse your strange time zone
Anyway, from what i've seen, the best games have been...
Bogus vs Stats on Sniper Ridge Zero vs FBH on Ground Zero Skyhigh vs Fantasy on Jade And perhaps Leta vs s2 on Chain Reaction
sorry i don't mean to advertise here, but Sayle if you wanted, I could do the games that you don't have time for. That way we could utilize all the english BW casting potential we can.
Thank you so much for introducing me to brood war sayle! Im having such a blast getting destroyed by mass tanks over and over as protoss! Even though I'm getting crushed I'm still so happy im improving. And that happiness wouldn't come without you. Thank you so much sayle <3 !

Yeah this should be a good idea or better yet, why not do a double commentary??
Wow! sayle, you're awesome! The new video titles make it so much easier to watch your excellent casts offline (although I'm still constantly checking this thread).
The official songs of the progamers are quite funny. Note that "Fat kid" hon_sin's one is "Supermassive black hole" :D. And of course, Jaedong had to go with "We are the champions".
Thanks Sayle for the uploads, your commentaries have been awesome, I love the random side jokes, cracks me up.
Hey question since youve observed every SK planet game this season, I've noticed Terran has nearly 70% win rate over Zerg, not that I am complaining being a terran user myself but 21-10 seems a bit more obscure then normal. Now I know Terran has a little umph over Zerg I feel in the 9 years I have been playing especially when zerg doesnt go defliers but whenever I see TvZ I am alreadly like hmm Zergs most likely going to lose. Do you have any reason as to why this is from a commentator standpoint? I know part of it is zerg can be a little greedy, is it the maps?
I couldn't help but notice that you didn't mention in your Khan/ACE cast that Shine is currently 100% winrate in proleague, exactly like Flash. Just pointing that out ^^
I just watched SKT vs ACE, and thought I'd answer some of your random questions with my useless trivia, just so you know for future reference ^^
- Alone is one of the new zergs that SKT picked up in the recent team disbanding draft. He was previously on Hwaseung Oz, where his Z competition were Jaedong and Killer, which is why he got very little play time. SKT on the other hand, is constantly desperately searching for Zergs that don't fail, so I think we'll be seeing him a lot more this upcoming season - Regarding the on screen stats: First one shown is Head-to-head score (top is official games only, bottom is including unofficial games), second is rankings within race, and third is the player's current season stats. - Sniper Ridge's stats for PvT before today's game were 6-3 in favor of P. However, all of the Protoss losses on that map were by SKT Tosses (2 losses by Bisu, 1 by Best). Conclusion? Sniper Ridge is Protoss favored, unless you're from SKT lol

SKT protosses can't win on this map. It's terran-favored.
On January 19 2012 07:45 Count9 wrote: lol, if all your players are 50% winrate you win 50% of your games, guess he's never flipped a coin before
i forgot all about statistics. anyways, lets try:
win percentage = number of favouring outcomes / number of possible outcomes
favouring outcomes: win 3 out of 5. 10 possibilities possible outcomes: win 0 out of 5: 1 possibility win 1 out of 5: 5 possibilities win 2 out of 5: 10 possibilities win 3 out of 5: 10 possibilities
so win percentage = 10 / 26 = 38%
actually i dont think thats how it worked. damnit, i studied math, but i always hated statistics.
The point is that it's not the same as flipping a coin. A Starcraft match isn't a one person game, you gotta do the head to head statistics with both player's statistics. Else the old Oz would've been a beastly team.
yeah i forgot that matches dont always go to 5 games if you lose or win, thanx for pointing out bearbuddy. as i sad, i usually dislike statistics.
well, one could still branch it up, but i guess thats a computers job, or maybe somebody knows which goddamn distribution function you have to use.
im sorry
PS: THANKS for the KT GAME :D
edit: if i use branching i count possibilty to win in 5 games = win in 3 games OR win in 4 games (dont count the 3 games win) OR win in 5 games (dont count the win in 3 or 4 games)
win in 3 games = win game 1 AND game 2 AND game 3 = 0,5 * 0,5 * 0,5 = 0,125 win in 4 games = 3 possibilities = 3 * (0,5^4) = 0,1875 win in 5 games = 6 possibilites = 6 * (0,5^5) = 0,1875
sum it up, you will get 0,5%. now math proves what we all knew
Now that I don't have any foreigner events to cast on Saturday/Sunday, I'm thinking about moving the weekend rebroadcasts slightly later to be more friendly to the North American viewers. How does 17 CET sound?

loving the casts sayle, i always watch the matchs live but i do also always watch your rebroadcast also, first time ive ever liked a english commentary lolz, keep them coming !
Hey Sayle, Thanks for the casts! would love some solocasting from time to time though, so much random babbling and lame jokes during the sessions with that other guy.
Seems like the first antis are emerging lol. I enjoy the way you both work together and hope to see more dual casts, awesome job!
To the haters: Discouraging a very good commentator with an outstanding BW knowledge at this point in time just because he doesn't perfectly fit your taste? You should be ashamed of yourselves.

I don't see it as discouraging. They did a good job. But the solo cast and dual commentary is like chamber music and orchestral music. You want to listen to both every so often. I am content with what we have. I don't complain.

Chill out, it's just feedback. And vorosh isn't going to phone home to mom and cry just because a couple people on a forum said they don't like his casting.
And yes, Sayle is in fact into children, he has said it many times in casts but then tries to play it off as a joke.

Tehnically lolis arent children (reality vs anime style are pretty far in the first place), but ofcourse in a lot of cases the interest overlaps between real children and lolis.
I'd like to just drop by and say that even though I, unfortunately, cannot enjoy it often, I greatly appreciate your work. You guys are what makes a community.
Also, I really love the more analytical \ laid back type of commentary.

I'm glad you took the time to react. Yes, I was refering to you, although I didn't want to make it personal.
As much as I try, I don't see "so much random babbling and lame jokes during the sessions with that other guy." as a valuable feedback. You should have respect for people actively engaged in a community and you don't talk about people and their work (that you get for free, btw.) like that if you respect them. So no, I do not have any problem with the message of what you wrote or the reasons behind it, my only problem is the wording and the tone of it. Maybe I'm just too old and it's the way it works in the world right now, but after reading that sentence I just wanted to slap you in the face.
I'm not going to change my mind on this one, yet if anyone feels the need to tell me that it's actually okay and respectful to treat people that try to entertain you in their free time like that or that I am perhaps misreading his post, please do it via PM, and let's end it here so that we don't spam the topic because of my earlier exaggerated statement. Thanks.

I will put the polls from the LR threads above the VODs.
Personally, I did not enjoy Pholon and Mustaju at all. Vorosh heavily outclasses them both in terms of interesting things to say and in terms of bearable accent.
loooooooooooooooooool sayle you awful person i was raging at my house's fire alarm for like 2 hours whilst watching the rebroadcast saved on twitch, until you finally said it was YOUR goddamn fire alarm not mine!!!!
Sayle is very good. His ingame knowledge is much better than Cholera's and his voice is almost on the same level. Cholera was hilarious at the right times and action commentator whenever things happened, that was his strength. But don't forget that it took Cholera quite a while to get to where he was. His commentaries improved quickly but the revolutionary Hyuking and Mantoss stuff took a lot of commentaries to develop.
Hi Sayle, been watching your BW casts since the beginning of this proleague and love your casting, but it's even better when you have Vorosh with you! Please get him to cast with you some more, I like the dynamic of having a zerg and protoss commentating games, and you two seem to cast well together.
Thanks for casting Brood War, you've made me a big fan of proleague! I watch live when I can and hope you continue to do this.

If i can critizise a bit of the commenting, everything is really matter of style but one thig is that, sometimes its silenze and akward moment if you/you two dont have anythig to say.

No shit if there is nothing to say then don't say anything until something noteworthy comes up on screen or you'll end up like the GSL casters and just spewing diarrhea out they're mouths. Not even in high speed sports like hockey do the commentators fill every single second.
If you want to improve your Dual casting you could try to listen more to what your co commentators say, because sometimes it seems like they're saying something and you interrupt them / say something completely different instead of interacting with them. Anyhow it's not that big of a deal. Keep it up <3

Actually, I quite disagree with that. Sometimes the co-commentators get really annoying (like Vorosh), when they go off-track and start a huge monologue that actually doesn't make much sense. Sayle has good points, good analysis and knows the game well. But of course yeah, when the two really hit it off, fit in with each other and are both humorous, that's when it's absolutely amazing.

thats why i think sayle is much more enjoyable with pholon or mustaju. hes the maincaster and has somebody for facts (for example stats) and analysis. stx vs khan was a pleasure to watch guys
I'm one of the guys who really don't like it when commentators miss or ignore stuff that is going on. During the buildup phase when nothing happens it is good to go offtopic, make jokes or go into a strategy monologue but keep looking at the screen and as soon as something happens call it. I liked all co casters so far but some of them were not good at that. even smaller things like when a scout gets through should be mentioned imo but at one point there was like the big bunker break going on and the guy kept talking about TvZ in general so I was really glad that Sayle interrupted him there. But the point about interacting with the co host is valid. I was listening to Tastosis again today. The game SC2 I don't like but man these two are so freaking good together.

Wow i tried my best to be nice, but i got attacked and flamed instantly. Its just an opinion, atleast in my country we have commentators who dont just wait and watch, and say, ball goes there, ball is there, silence, ball is there. Dunno about you, but i am used to commentators commentating. On the other hand, sayle tells more about stats and background etc, instaed just telling, he built gateway, he build rax etc, he skips those play to play and tells more interesting stuff.
EDIT: If its something he dosetn feel comfortable with, then id rather listen to the silence then the akward moment of trying to fill the caps. And again, its just an opinion, no need for hate for me and sc2 communitys most popualr casters. Also, your hockey commentators suck then.

I understand your point, but I respectfully disagree. The sounds of BW are amazing and deserve to be heard, and sometimes commentators should take a break from constantly speaking to let us hear a scarab blow up 10 probes, or some drones mining minerals. Less is sometimes more.

Sorry I didn't know you were so sensitive.

My bad on the changes for CR. I was using the image comparisons because I thought the article had made a mistake, but I guess not. Fixed, and double checked the rest of the maps; everything should be correct now.

I've tuned in a few times and I just wanted to say thanks a bunch for all the stuff you do for broodwar Sayle. Easily making a huge difference in bringing broodwar content on TL these days which is so awesome to see. Keep it up.

Mang, if you're gonna bring a random SC2 co-caster, why not bring a random BW player as co-caster? I remember you dual-casted with LML once and it was actually good.

Well, to be fair, I asked if I could join the cast, so he didn't 'bring' me on in that sense. I just think it's great that Sayle does BW casts.
Hey Sayle, FYI in your youtube channel set 5 of the KT-Khan match on 2/14 is a Stork-Movie game. Especially looking forward to yesterday's casts since I wasn't able to watch them live, keep up the exceptional work!

Sayle, you are a true gentleman and a scholar for doing these. I started off a BW player, quit, and then just started SC2 and really enjoy Tastosis and all that, but you are definitely way up there, especially since you commentate BW for foreigners. Keep it up!
So I guess the broadcast is still going ahead at 22CET? It's just that the next broadcast is usually up to date in the OP and scheduled in the side bar but it's not today.

Ah, I didn't know if there was a cast or not but "fangirl" assured me that you never miss a game. I guess I will just catch the VOD instead of seeing your lifecast of the VOD.
hehe. The confounding variable is actually whether or not I can wake up in time for the rebroadcast. Sometimes I'm just too tired from staying up till 5 in the morning and sleep through it, like today

I wouldn't have bothered waking up to re-watch those games either ^_^;
Guys, expect some delays on the VODs from SKT vs Stars. As those who stuck around after the rebroadcast will know, I suffered a power outage (literally) at my apartment towards the end of the stream, so it looks like the metadata in the recording got messed up. This means I can't split the VOD using my normal method, so I think I might have to do it from the recording on twitch. Thanks for your patience.

does it start from the beginning?
Yes, there's even some laddering before that, the broadcast itself starts at around the 36th minute.

Thank you so much Sayle! Great casts, it makes watching proleague so much more entertaining.
But I have noticed that on several casts you have been confused at scouting patterns in TvP. Scouting the close positions first is entirely to stop 12 Nex builds. Cross positions are too far away to bunker rush and if you scout the other close position last, its too late to bunker rush. So this way, 12Nex only works 1/3 of the time (cross positions) instead of 2/3 of the time. I believe Flash was the first one to start doing this, 1 or 2 seasons ago.

That doesn't make much sense to me. If you scout a close position first then scout cross map and see a 12nex, your bunker rush would arrive at exactly the same time as if you had scouted normally and saw him in cross positions. In the first case, you have the time it takes for the scv to scout a close position (1x short), the time it takes for it to go cross map (1x long), and the time it takes for you to bunker rush him in close positions (1x short). In the second case, you have the time it takes for your scv to scout a close position (1x short), the time it takes for the scv to continue to the cross map position (1x short), and the time it takes you to bunker rush cross map (1x long). Both times are 2x short + 1x long so your initial rush of scvs and 2-3 marines arrives exactly the same time in both cases. The only difference is that the reinforcement route is slightly longer, but this will only affect your 3rd/4th marine and to a lesser extent your vulture (since vultures are pretty quick even without an upgrade, I'm pretty sure the difference in positions only delays your vulture by like 5-6 secs max). It's possible that these few seconds are what makes the difference, but I feel like the difference is marginal. If you're really concerned about 12nex (on Jade for example), I think you'd just do a double scout to close positions as we've seen a couple of times already.
Edit: I suppose another benefit of doing the close then cross map scout is that you can see proxy gates as well, but I think by that time the first zealot would be (almost) at your base already.
Hi Sayle! Thank you very much for it! Watching this now again, set 5 is so interesting to watch, because it was a very cool game indeed, and nice to see a professional commentary on it (I mean a professional commentary that I can understand :D ).
Some feedback on omino... the 2nd caster, sorry I'll probably never remember the name A new mic as someone already pointed out in the stream chat seems quite necessary... or some tweaking on the audio.
Two minor issues I would like to point out: 1. Interrupting Sayle's speech every now and then; I realize it's hard with the delay and all but you should try and find a way to avoid doing that, it disturbs the flow of the cast.
2. Try articulating a longer train of thought every now and then. Sometimes it feels like Sayle is doing most of the casting (which is fine) and you just offer a word of approval every now and then (which might come out as a bit awkward). I don't think this is necessary because if you already do speak out, you usually make sense, so don't be afraid of doing it more often (while keeping point #1 in mind).
This is just my humble, uneducated opinion but hopefully you can make some use of it. Overall I definately enjoy the co-casts, keep up the great job!

Yeah, the mic is a real issue - and if I'm around in the end of this month I will get a better one!
I always try not to interupt Sayle, but sometimes I do, the delay is a bitch tbh. Also, when he has his long train of thougths I don't feel like interupting either, so I try not to, and when it's my time to talk he often has covered all the action so well, the 'word of approval' is pretty much what's left (I'm not saying that is a bad thing, it speaks to Sayle's great skills as a caster). I will try to improve though, and your feedback is pretty spot on, so thank you for taking the time
It's really going to be inconvenient though with all these banned criminals. Can you imagine?

Hi Sayle, ty for the casts! I think it would be great idea to compile them all into one big torrent after the season's end!
You were amazed by Hydras build last night but so many sunkens isn't that unusual. This was viable build on Outsider, where zerg would sunken up a lot at natural, hold till Hive and then use guardians to break out. Quick rush to Ultras and Guardians while using many sunkens is possible on other maps too - Luxury did beat Flash with this build on Troy - VOD

Sayle, For the last three or so years I've been watching MSL/OSL and maybe caught a few games of PL finals, but this because of you I have watched every single game of SPL and it has been awesome. My sincerest gratitude. -Slam <3
In order to keep the playoffs 100% spoiler free I think it would be good to put the links to the 3rd bo7s in the second post in a spoiler as in (if needed). You can always link to a random post instead but that's a bit misleading and unnecessary imo.
No need to add the anti-spoiler VODs from YouTube to the list, just go with "not needed". In case anyone skips the first games he doesn't care about getting spoiled and at the same time you don't want to make him watch a game from a different match. These VODs are up there just for the people watching directly from YouTube.

What's fine exactly? If you go watch the playoffs now and you see all the three sets in the anti-spoiler post, after watching the first set you can guess the outcome of the second set.
It would be good to spoiler this part as well, for the very same reason, btw.: Next Cast: Tuesday, Mar 20 10:00pm CET (GMT+01:00) KT vs CJ
I've been watching all of these live so I don't care myself, but it sucks to get spoiled. It takes about a minute to fix something like this, so why on Earth would you be opposed to it?

This was the best BW experience for me so far. Thank you Sayle, OminouS, Kiett, OpticalShot and everyone else, it was a blast! Although I often regret not discovering BW way sooner, today's cast was as awesome as my brain could possibly handle.
Thanks so much Sayle for your casts throughout the season, and Kiett for joining in for the amzing finals! You two really made the matches a lot more fun to watch
And huge thanks to OpticalShot as well for great on spot translations

Amazing cast, BTW. Loved that it was live; made staying up for it even better. Mad props to Sayle and Kiett for doing this.
You should probably cut the award ceremony out of the video and leave just the game. Oh it's not even the ace, that makes even less sense.. EDIT: Well.. guess that did not work How was it flagged that quickly? 1 minute..

Note that I've moved all the rebroadcast times to one hour earlier to compensate for the Bo7 format (versus Bo5 for season one).

Good to hear you cast again. I liked that Pokebunny joined too. Did anybody think of L. Ron Bumquist when they heard him cast? Anyway... it was awesome.
I have to say, as a SC 2 player and fan... You Broodwar guys sure know how to make rebroadcast/Vod threads. Holy shit work was made much easier today with the opening day Vods being clearly and concisely laid out for me to watch on my other monitor.
Sayle definitely deserves attention. This guy is casting Brood War for hours without taking a break, it doesn't matter if it is a community tournament or a pro tournament. I love his casual, funny style. I hope he will be known more with SC2 proleague.

Yeah that's weird. The dates are correct, the days of the week seem to be screwed up. They're also listed in the TL calendar on the right side bar if you're not sure (so to be clear, it's going to be Sat/Sun).
Proleague 2011-2012 Season takes place at the Youngsan e-Sports Stadium (I-PARKmall, 9th floor) every Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Tuesday for Starcraft.
The broadcast on OGN usually starts in the afternoon KST (which is early morning CEST, late at night EST), so the English rebroadcasts will be a few hours after that on those days.
Taking that into account, the next games rebroadcast will correctly be at the following times (Sayle forgot the year):
Saturday, May 26 2:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) Khan vs Stars, ACE vs STX
Sunday, May 27 2:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00) CJ vs SKT, KT vs Team 8
can someone please tell us where we can get the HIGH QUALITY proleague (SC2) vods ? atm sayle is streaming regular (low) quality videos and people are saying there are high quality vods he can stream from instead
Feedback on the casting: video quality was the same tbh, kinda shitty but i can live with it since im used to the low quality gom stream audio quality was just fine, game sounds were a touch low but no big deal I personally prefer the rebroadcast because it fits my schedule nicely but in the worst case scenario i will watch vods on twitch.
Video quality was pretty much the same but that's unavoidable due to the 480p VODs Audio quality was good I prefer rebroadcast as usual in the evening because I can't watch live most of the time, but I can always watch the VODs later
rebroadcast is good, especially for your beauty sleep i miss most casts usually due to work, but i believe there are at least TWO people already doing live english streams during the korean broadcasts (supernovaman being one of them)
I decided to try and do live broadcasts starting from tomorrow. Originally tomorrow was supposed to be a rebroadcast at 16:00 GMT same as today but I really want to try the higher quality stream. Sorry to those who won't be able to catch it any more
Well vods are easily accessible to anyone who cares about it anyway, so it does make sense. I think it could be a good move if the video quality does increase.

If we're being honest here, you can't judge SC2 at all by the PL games. It's unfortunate but the play is barely, if even, above GSL Open Season 1 level.
Anyway, thanks Sayle for rebroadcasting live - you make PL more fun to watch than it would be otherwise!

I'm not trying to be a troll but care to link me vods? Im super interested burrowed banelings Those sound pretty cool. Preferably not GOM though, because I dont have the pass to view the vods.

I have seen 3 infestors kill >30 supply worth of vikings in under 12 seconds. I have seen Psionic Storms tear apart entire armies like they're made out of paper. I have seen a hand full of Baneling land mines show 25+ marines why exploding can be fun. I have seen a few Blink Stalkers kill an uncountable number of roaches. I have seen the Archon toilet, where 6-7 Archons kill the entire Zerg army in about 4 seconds.

While the Moon baneling landmine Mk 1 in the early GSLs was still a failure... + Show Spoiler +
...eventually the improved Moon baneling landmine Mk 2 was developed at MLG + Show Spoiler +
I played Broodwar many years ago, but I was totally ignorant of any pro-scene, and trying to learn it was futile for me because there was no English. You're helping me reclaim the other half of my Broodwar days, thanks. Keep it up Sayle.
One thing I ask is to keep the "[team] (race/position) Name" up on the overlay. You usually do, but it's usually missing 1 or the other, not a big deal, but It helps get more familiar with the teams and players.

If we're being honest here, you can't judge SC2 at all by the PL games. It's unfortunate but the play is barely, if even, above GSL Open Season 1 level.
Anyway, thanks Sayle for rebroadcasting live - you make PL more fun to watch than it would be otherwise!
There are high level games as well . The TvTs , PvZs and some of the PvPs are pretty good and entertaining . Terrans need more time to adjust , because the difference between BW and SC2 terran is to big . Zergs and protosses are doing just fine .

They aren't that bad, the few games I caught do seem to be well below the quality of "pure" SC2 pros, which is to be expected at this point. That skill/quality gap should close over the rest of the year.
ELO Rating a famous kind of rating system evolved from chess gaming afaik. Players lose or win certain amounts of points based on the difference in the ranking to the players the lost or won against. This is accepted as a very good mirror of actual skill level. (Ofc it doesnt take into account where the games are played, proleague counts just as much as osl finals)

Are you sure that there is no different multiplactor for different events? I know that some ELO systems use those.

Red stream, at 9:30. It will only be up until Day 3 starts of course. After that, it may be a while but VODs will eventually make their way to MLG's site. No burrowed banelings, but you will see a small army destroy a big one. MKP in general is good at makiing a small army beat a big one.
Sorry for derailing the thread. Thanks for casting Sayle!
Yo Sayle. I really think you are good at casting and maybe OGN needs casters in the near future. Maybe you should contact them and tell them that you are popular here on teamliquid. Not sure if you are interested or if they are interested and it is probably not working anyway.
But it would be totally awesome to see you officially cast Kespa games (and without any lag :D) so I wanted to bring it up.

I feel the need to second this, your awesome sayle!
Just a reminder, I will not be casting the matches this weekend since I'll be in London watching the WCS UK finals (casted by Tastosis!!!). I may cast the match on Monday. Depends on whether I've recovered enough from the weekend of fangirling out.
when i click play from this page, the video says "this video contains content from international e-sports group, who has blocked it from display on this website. watch on youtube." works as normal when i click to open on youtube
Sayle, I had to make a TL account so I could thank you for the hard work you've put into English commentaries of PL games. I got into Starcraft 2 from a MLG Halo background, so I knew nothing about BW coming in. But when I did wanna give BW a look into, you not only provided English commentary for last season's PL, but you then uploaded everything in a spoiler-free format. From your commentary I was able to learn the game, as well as be entertained, and from the spoiler-free format, I could have the fun of not knowing how a game would turn out (something you kind of need to enjoy a new game that you don't really know anything about).
So thank you, Sayle, for everything you've done here.
Not sure if this will help you (it is your stream after all, and it is awesome) but I noticed that you were sometimes unsure on which stream you want, the safe stream or the HQ stream. Maybe a poll could help to find out what your viewers prefer:
Poll: Stream quality and lag: What do you prefer:
I want the stream safe from lag, even if that means lower resolution. (23)
68%
I want high resolution with a risk of lag in key moments. (11)
32%
34 total votes

If this is to personal you dont have to answer, but how in the world do you get so much free time for casting these? What kind of awesome job do you have?

It's a fairly normal full-time job. I work 8-9 hours a day like most people. The main benefit is that it's an IT company with a startup-like atmosphere which means very flexible work hours. My normal schedule for Monday/Tuesday casts is to cast from 7-10am, get to work at 10:30, then work until 6:30/7:00pm. I'll sometimes put in a couple of extra hours on Wednesday-Friday if I don't get enough work done on the PL days. I don't really have any commitments outside of my job, so my entire existence basically comprises of work, sleep, and starcraft.

Ahh okay. Great schedule you got there ! (not joking) I did forget the 1 hour time difference to UK, so that makes it at least a little better times. I would really wish you could go to Korea and become the official caster for OGN, that'd be so awesome :D
I really hope he does more foreigner SC BW events.
I know he will probably transition into SC 2 and I will watch his casts and I'm sure if he tries hard enough people will watch that, but I would still like him to cast foreigner BW events because thats why we love him!
