Not sure if I should post this in this forum, but its related to Yellow.. and I assume alot of people wants to know what Yellow has been doing recently.
Basic Summary
Yellow became a coach for a brand new League of Legends team called 'Xenics Storm' sponsored by Xenics
They have been practicing at a gaming house from 2nd of Feb, getting ready to compete at Ongamenet's LoL Champions Spring league.
They think 'Xenics Storm' will be another factor that breaths life into stale Korean esports scene. Many people are interested in how Yellow's career and experience will help the new LoL team.
I hoped Yellow would get into sc2.. but at least he works in Esports.
Pretty sure it's spelled Zenex like the SC2 team, but this is interesting. I always wondered what HJH would do after BW. Guess he can be on that show with Kim Carrier and carry him (or get carried?)

I looked at the logo because I was confused too,but its spelled Xenics. Also, I love Kim Carry's LoL show... its so freakin' fun to watch :D

disappointed really, he should be investing more into SC2 I think like becoming a coach in a sport he actually knows. Maybe he's really been practicing LoL but it seems weird for him to coach it out of nowhere.
publicity stunt if anything. i wish yellow would stop milking his name for everything it is worth. makes me sad but this is a harsh reality of a youth spent on progaming over education.

Please do note that SC and SC2 are not necessarily the same game. I think Yellow failed to produce much results after announcing his bid at the latter, didn't he? I appreciate his decision to venture on to fresh new territory instead of clinging onto game he have little chance of being successful, though knowing about poker bit makes it considerably less epic. Actually, what a bitter news. Hope he manage to discover stable source of income (and get rid of his gambling addiction).

I don't think LoL is very big in Korea, but it also released there fairly recently, so it's a good bet it'll grow.
Still, it's really kind of arbitrary a career move. I guess I wish him well, though.
I wonder if it's named "Storm" after him. I'd like to see him play, I guess. I wonder what champion he'd pick.

Afaik, these stats are drawn from activity in PCBangs (Korean internet cafes, and are usually used to follow which games are popular and so on). Sudden Attack, the korean CS, being the most dominant one followed by Aion, an MMORPG.
LoL has seen an explosive growth in Korea, which is why you see all them Pros talk about it / move it. It could very well be the next big thing in Korea. (If it already isn't.)

Really looking forward to this.
PC Baang stats are overrated. What matters is what people are willing to pay money to see, as the SC2 scene is suddenly learning.
Not to say that LoL couldn't be huge. It draws big foreign numbers, but that's because Riot is pouring money into the competitive scene. No one's making money from LoL yet.
Funny seeing people that think sc2 is actually a big scene in korea. You notice how all these teams are actually get sponsors and many sc2 cant? There's a reason for that.
If anything sc2 is only big because of the foreign numbers.

Pretty much, though it's slowly growing in Korea. That's why the "OMG SC2 is going to kill BW" hype is so overblown. SC2 is actually going to collapse a bit pretty soon. And there's not yet any reason to think LoL will be any different. I mean, it might not. It very well could take off. But it hasn't stood on it's own two feet yet.
That's why I'm surprised Yellow isn't getting a job in BW, as a coach or commentator or something. He must either love LoL or hate all things Starcraft.
Though, I suppose, it's not like he can't go back to being a BW community dude if LoL doesn't pan out.
Any actual facts to substantiate the claim that Yellow is a poker addict? Just because someone plays poker a lot does not make him an addict. If he's doing this coaching LoL gig because he lost most or all of the money he made in BW, then we can say he has a problem.
On February 22 2012 15:46 Antisocialmunky wrote: I dunno, SCII will probably stay afloat until all the expansion packs are done.
Oh, it'll stay afloat; the scene is growing and has more stability than previous western e-sport bubbles. What I mean that there are like 50 major SC2 tournaments, and not one of them is making money. Eventually, it'll collapse, and there's be 4-5 major SC2 tournaments that are making money. This is pretty much unanimous consensus among most of the people losing money and competing to be one of the last 4-5.
LoL, I think, is the same way. There's a lot of POTENTIAL for it to be big, and thus an incentive to try and make it big in LoL. And it's easier to do that in LoL because Riot supports tournaments a lot more than Valve (Dota) or Blizzard (SC2) does. But most of the people who are trying to get into LoL are going to fail. That's not even pessimism, it's just true. There are a lot more people trying to make money in LoL (and SC2, and really "e-sports" in general) than the scene can actually sustain, but the guys still standing at the end will reap the rewards.
LoL, like SC2, is a bubble. It is. The question is where it's like the dotcom bubble (where most of those startups failed, but there were a few Amazons among the pets.coms) or like the housing bubble where just everyone loses.
Yellow could potentially make more money in LoL, but it's a risky venture.
Rofl what does he really know about LoL? I think they signed him to be like a team mascot or something, and he agreed just so he can earn a few extra bucks on the side, which is what I would do if I were him.

OGN is hosting a LoL league for the next year so we'll soon see how they do.
This is sad First fruit dealer playing LoL, now yellow coaching a LoL team... Look if you cant macro and control whole armies maybe this is the way to go. LoL is for the people who fail out of SC2 and are looking for an easy way back into e-sports.
lol is growing a lot in korea, i would say 90% of males who play games regularly have at least tried lol, if not started to play consistently. but thats all gonna change when dota2 comes out (hopefully)
At the people saying lol is like sc2 and will just burn out or is a "bubble" is pretty hilarious. sc2 never ever made the charts for top games played in pc cafes, where lol was steady at lower 2-5% and just recently bursted up higher. If anything it will grow more since tournaments are gaining more support recently. Sc2 was never played as much as lol currently is (in korea).
Sc2 fans need to stop living in a delusional world.

Korea has a nasty habit of playing terrible games they can cheat in. Sudden attack is full of aim bots and god knows what else, the hit boxes are ALL over the place and generally a REAL shit shooting game. And then fifa online 2 is a terrible game, its fifa 2008 with an online mode....sucks so bad!
Its strange, the young students are starting to find out about games like CoD, Fifa2012 and other 'new' games, but they don't like it because they can't cheat
As for yellow and LoL, I am disappointed that LoL, a game which is pretty bad to watch, fun to play is getting popular and dragging players away. I can imagine playing it for fun ' I have' but I don't understand why people play it competitively compared to other MOBA's.
I am glad Yellow is doing something gaming related, really am.
But I have such little regard for these tower defense games. I have a friend who plays them at a very high level, and they are so shallow, I simply can't get into them. There's so little to talk or think about compared to real resource-managed RTSs. Let alone the fact they haven't yet managed to make one that is even vaguely watchable on stream - LoL in particular is about as fun to watch as WoW Arena.
Seems a real waste of the Storm's talent. Talk of which title is best is like discussing which cheese strat is best - no matter what you pick you're still bad.

Far superior in what? If you are trying to diss sc2 with LoL, just don't. LoL is sc2 of MOBA, just even more easier and casual friendly.
But there is nothing chocking about sc2 not being so popular in Korea while SCBW, LoL and all the shitty FPS games instead of a game like CS 1.6 or the old CoD games have huge player bases - you can play online for free.

LoL is a moba not an RTS
"Multiplayer Online Battle Arena, an abandoned term created by Riot Games to describe the Action Real-Time Strategy genre."

It's a bigger distance, but in the same direction. LoL is to SC2 what SC2 is to BW. It's more trendy, more played and watched, has more tournaments and more hype. But they're considered more boring to watch, and skill doesn't make as much as a difference.
I'm glad Yellow did this. It adds further proof to "progamers won't fight for the superior game if they're offered enough money" (a quite obvious statement anyway).

Like my ultimate hate for SC2 (Flash being the 2nd), but I digress.
If LOL is big in China, then there is a possibility that it can also be big in Korea.
MOBA games are HUGE in Korea. Last time I went to the OGN studios, they hosted an event for Chaos, which is a Korean DotA-style map on War3. The stadium was filled to capacity and then some - far more packed than it was for Proleague that day. I was extremely surprised, and I'll be way more surprised if League of Legends doesn't pull the same numbers given its popularity in PCBangs.
Those kids must be quite dumb to need an Ex-BW pro to teach them in a game he's probably not even good at. Well maybe he can teach them the practice disciplines, but anyone who has been on a pro team can do that.

Contrarily I do not find much vehemence here and is not surprised about it. As long as the game isn't completely terrible (and obviously some would disagree with me here), it is nice to see some familiar faces that cannot maintain their hold on BW scene for various reasons at least sticking to Korean e-sports, albeit in bit different context.
There are concerns that OGN announcement of new LoL tournament is death toll for OSL, but if such rumours turn out to be true that's because of failure of OnGameNet, unlike SC2 that fully intends to usurp its predecessor and those who play it (especially considering the fact that MOBA and RTS are different genes and likely to appeal to different subset of players/viewers). Completely unnecessary and inflammatory post unless you can produce proof that "many" people here are indeed bashing LoL, because seriously I see your writing only encouraging people to bash the game.
Yeah SC2 and LoL actually have a great deal in common, however this seems to go over the heads of many SC2 fans. The key difference being LoL has about 5 times more players than SC2 based on Gametrics where LoL is the 3rd most played game in PC bangs with 10% of people playing it and SC2 is somewhere below 10th (2.2% though SC2 could be anywhere from 0 to 2% can't tell without an account)
Of course that doesn't take into consideration playing from home, but LoL runs on more PCs than SC2 and is free so if anything I'd say they have more than 5 times the players

I watch Dota whenever I can, I find it to be much more entertaining then SC2(Although nothing beats BW), there is alot of action, strategies, mind games, positioning involved, if you play the game on a regular basis, you will also understand and wonder about each team's decisions. For me personally, its really entertaining to watch Dota.
I'd imagine its the same for people who watch and play LoL, they understand the game and therefore find it entertaining.

Yeah watching the really high skilled dota teams play each other is amazing. Not only the teamwork and how they move around on the map and gank but also watching the sick ricers doing their thing. Thats why I can't take LoL seriously when you can't deny creeps and everyone has free TP back to the base, or even those skill things you can select before games where you can run faster for XXX seconds or blink, oh and the awful graphic. It's like with sc2, everybody can control a 200/200 army or storm like Jangbi. In LoL everybody can farm and juke lika pro without any effort at all.

People say that MOBA and RTS are different genres, yet we see people always discussing between two genres because of SC2 and LoL in foreign scenes. Why? Because so many so-called SC2 fans are afraid that they're being outnumbered, and they know they're being outnumbered by far. Some BW fans just group these two games together and call them an easy game that YellOw is getting "easy" money/fame off from, which pisses me off.
Also, you can't blame OGN for putting LoL in prime-time slot if THERE IS NO ADVANCEMENT IN GETTING OSL SPONSORS at this moment. There was a reason for OGN to use up the slot for something else, and they use it on LoL instead of CS:O, Kartrider 15th league etc. Sure, call OGN a failure for not being able to secure OSL in that timeslot. Because I'm pretty sure they'll be happy to run the league without any sponsors, especially during the decline of BW in Korea.

People watch LoL streams for the same reason people watch SC2 streams; to learn from watching the game from the pros POV, and for possible commentary and insight to gameplay. The daily pro streams have over 35-40k people watching all day long. Streamers like hotshotgg and saintvicious get 10k+ viewers right from the moment they start streaming--CLG is sponsoring 2 LoL teams (their original NA team and recently a EU team) and 1 DotA2 team, as far as I know they only have like 3 major sponsors (razer, own3d, xxxxx---they did get razer team of the year recently as well beating TL and other razer teams for it) which means most of these money is coming from their streaming revenue on the shared own3d account; look at the numbers when they all stream--CLG.na CLG.eu CLG.dota2---over 50k viewers all day every day, that is pick viewers for many of the SC2 tournaments.
There is 1.5million people playing LoL at any given moment(NA only), while sc2 battle.net says a number well bellow that(visible when you login SC2) hence a bigger fanbase to sell things to. Riot is able to tap into their advertising money for tournaments--the company went from being founded to being bought for 400mil with people spending well over 60$ mark on the game (people will continue doing so). Riot is at least 2 years away from reaching the DotA number of heroes at the current 1 hero biweekly release schedule, so they have well over 2years where they can continue releasing heroes and making people pay for new heroes/skins.
As for tournaments; look at DH/IEM/MLG numbers LoL has always been more than 1/2 the viewers for those tournaments (for MLG/DH LoL had more viewers than all their other games combined), a recently un-advertised european time had 100k viewers mid day US (kings of europe).

In reality, it has a huge fanbase in Korea at the moment; even the regular LoL league has been scheduled to air during the regular timeslots of OSL.
I don't see many people stating that LoL is going to fail around here
Contrarily I do not find much vehemence here and is not surprised about it.
EDIT: Did you write a whole paragraph just to say 'you're wrong' in the best way possible? Thanks!
I don't really understand your first two sentences and will only respond to the last sentence, so please understand if I get some part of my response wrong >.>
While I can now see how "easy" part can be interpreted as you think, I still think your response was unnecessarily mean (and not clear cut as you believe). Considering the info that Yellow have little experience on LoL and that he apparently have poker addiction, I think it is perfectly acceptable to assume that his appointment was somewhat of a publicity stunt. At least not many people downright stated LoL will fail as you suggest, and even then you cannot claim that this bias is because of our BW elitism or that stupid stereotype of DotA being better than LoL somehow.
I accept your second paragraph since my intent there was to clarify the point that LoL is by no way responsible for whatever weakening of BW scene that is currently undergoing, since I thought sentence "even the regular LoL league has been scheduled to air during the regular timeslots of OSL" was likely to prod hardcore BW supporters into angry outburst and I would not appreciate that happening =/

Yet people don't realize that it's the other factors that have been killing BW (SUP SAVIOR) that lead into this situation, not because of emergence of some other games like SC2/LoL. I've seen some people getting mad that OSL hasn't been happening and LoL took over the spot, but fact it. ATM I'll be happy if we have another OSL this year, and that's likely at the moment. Any OSLs after that? I'm not too sure about.
offtopic: I'm pretty sure many people missed this, but MBCGame producer stated (kinda hidden, had to find the picture myself some time ago) that the major reason why MBCGame shut down was not because of money issues, but because of 'major incidents' that happened in the scene.
Kinda a bummer I hoped he'd try code a qualifiers again or maybe even become a caster for GOM (or even better for ongamenet), atleast he stays in esports though, just can't understand why this lol crap is getting so popular in korea, bw is like the hardest game ever and now they fall in love with one of the easiest competitive games? I really wonder how bw would look today in korea if the savior shit wouldn't have happened/gotten public, and I'm fairly sure things would also look better for sc2 as the games are connected afterall.
It isn't only Savior. I was under the impression that the whole IP rights dispute created a toxic environment for sponsors. Even if the viewership is there they might not want to piss off Blizzard.

Ahaha holy crap people complaining because LoL is easier than SC2. I remember getting lambasted for even insinuating the same thing about SC2 in reference to BW.
What was the usual response? Move on? Get with the times?

LoL has seen an explosive growth in Korea, which is why you see all them Pros talk about it / move it. It could very well be the next big thing in Korea. (If it already isn't.)
Really looking forward to this.
Popularity. It's pretty easy to argue that League of Legends is one of the most popular PC games in the world right now. There are tons of people who are in complete denial at how popular LoL is and you can see it in this thread, but I see with my own eyes and hear with my own ears people who sit in the school's computer lab to watch LoL streams and browse the LoL forums, and it's easy to say that they've all been exposed to the competitive scene since Riot promotes it so much. I've only met one person at my school who follows competitive SC2, despite me knowing a lot of people who played Brood War in their childhood and bought Starcraft 2 on release. Blizzard just doesn't do a very good job at promoting esports. As for LoL being boring to watch, I agree, but there's that factor of "hey, there's these pro guys who are a lot better than me at this game I play with my friends all the time! Maybe I can learn from them!"
Take it's popularity (it's up there with WoW) and consider all the money they get from the paystore (generally $10 for each hero, $10 for each skin), that's how much money Riot makes, which Riot then invests (heavily) into the competitive scene. Promoting their game means promoting their competitive scene, which then leads into more ad revenue from tournaments run by Riot, which then leads to sponsors gaining interest in LoL teams. Nada himself says that LoL attracts competitive gamers because of how huge the prize pool is (take this with a grain of salt though, since he was told by Riot to promote the game).
LoL probably popular that much becouse it was ment to be free and HON was like half a year or more behind, and now LoL definitely above by far than HON, LoL's real threat is Dota2, thus they promote the game everywhere they can
As for myself, im really intrested to see if LoL can keep up with Dota2 or Dota2 wont even scratch it

LoL isn't easier then SC2 though, that is the point. Macro and micro in SC2 is just spamming a few buttons; LoL at least demands a certain amount of attention and intelligence micro wise.
I mean yeah, we all wish Yellow was still involved in BW, but LoL...? Well it could be much worse.
No, as someone who really enjoys playing LoL, it is significantly easier in everything pertaining to the RTS Genre (of which LoL, DotA, HoN et al are, people just try to stupidly differentiate it). Saying the SC2 micro doesn't take attention or micro is very incorrect, especially in comparison to LoL.

SC is obviously much much much more mechanically demanding. The teamwork aspect, you could argue, makes LoL harder to be good at. The amount of attention or intelligence required is very hard to compare.

Did you realize that all of those 'shitty games' are free and cost nothing to play unless they buy extra item in game? Because that's how Korea's PC gaming industry works for the most part. Make a game, release it free through game providers (netmarble, hangame etc.), then they make profit from the in-game items or extras, just like how LoL works.

Just wanted to say that this thread got posted on the LoL reddit so the really ignorant/troll posts are most likely from the people who didn't like the 'SC2 ego-stroking'
This is just a personal opinion, But i Find that LoL is horrible to watch, and dota 2 and HoN are not as bad, but pretty boring esp in the Chinese scene where its a 40min farm fest
I wish Yellow the best of luck but I'll stick to SC2 and RTS in general as my way of Computer game Entertainment

What makes you think it's not sustainable? Do you have some type of statistics that Riot is actually losing money instead of making it when they are supporting these tournaments?
LoL is currently one of the biggest games in the world. I don't think Riot has any shortage of money.

Make a game, release it free through game providers (netmarble, hangame etc.), then they make profit from the in-game items or extras, just like how LoL works.
Of course I do, I sat there in PC rooms for hours watching them play these games. Yes they're free but alot of the people who play actually spend alot more money pimping themselves out and making them selves impossible to kill if you don't pay the money yourself. And many of the 'new' pc rooms have cracked versions of L4D and COD and people enjoy playing them, kids love them but they can't play online. The graphics are bad and general 'I pay so therefore I win' just destroys the whole concept of gaming for me. I can understand that its free, but SC2 is free in pc rooms. All you need to do is register and boom you can play ladder for free.
The structure is good, they're free games, cool, but for the lvoe of god give them updates, or play the games that are more modern. Sudden Attack is like 300 years old, its a CS 1.5 rip off. It's not that good. The one game I did enjoy was AVA, which was more like COD, Battle field online which is a port of BF2 is a great game, however nobody plays it. Korean gamers in general do not like new games and change. SF and SA are glitch ridden games.....

Seriously though, Yellow's SC2 project seemed pretty casual as well and I'm not sure how the Korean coaches work, but it's probably more kind of a managerial thingy (makes sure all the lollers are eating their vegetables and playing the game as little pro-gamers should). Seems like something someone who can would do - at worst lol is going to have a pretty big scene for a year or two before falling into the oblivion of gamehell where all games go.
It would be awesome if we could keep the horrors of which game is better than the other in the BW section though - at least they have some good experience with it already and have numbed out to the terrible terrible pain this nonsense should cause. Even this thread about lol in BW section seems to be a lot about how terrible SC2 is (it's really kind of pathetic).

All LoL tournaments are funded at least in part by Riot afaik, which is not that sustainable. LoL only has a couple of tournaments a year and is frankly not that interesting to watch. The reason it's so widely played is that it's free and very easy to play.
Hmm, this might have been true for 2011 but there have been at least 2 major tournaments that is not directly funded by Riot (Kings of Europe, OGN Invitational) in 2012 so it's getting better. However, all tournaments are able to ask Riot for in-game prizes such as skins and in-game currency for the winners.
There are going to be quite a few big LoL tournaments this year, probably averaging along the lines of 1 per month. This is not an exhaustive list...
IEM Kiev, IEM Season 6 World Championship, IPL4, Kings of Europe, OGN Invitational, OGN League Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter, MSI Nvidia Trophy, Dreamhack x2 (?), MLG x4 (?), IEM Season 7 x3 (?)

yes, to get people to show up, they put out gifts. i think for the first broadcast they gave away a katarina skin to the audience.
I don't have hard data saying it's not sustainable, but Riot paid something like a million in prizes last year, right? I should have said that growth is not sustainable by Riot alone. 2011's tournament system could easily be sustained by Riot.

They are. The reason MLG does LoL instead of Dota is because Riot fronts the prize pool (according to the MLG CEO himself).
Riot's probably making money, but I doubt they're making money from the tournament scene directly. No "e-sports" tournaments are profitable, except maybe BW Proleague.
Here's to hoping DOTA2 can smash this kiddie-clone into a million pieces. If BW is going to get replaced, I would rather bitterly accept it being done by SC2, even if it will never reach the masterpiece of the original. Damn Blizzard majorly fucked up if LoL is gaining ground over both BW and SC2.
Good luck to Yellow but I would rather see him as a KT coach or do what Boxer is now doing.

Riot did get bought out by a Chinese company, Tencent, in early 2011 for ~$400 mil so they are doing ok in terms of growth. There was a 1 mil prize pool at DH last year for the championship and this year it will be a 5 mil prize pool for the entire year. It's basically a competition between Riot and Valve to see who can 1up the other in terms of the monies.

Reading this whole argument, all I saw was "play something new, stop playing BW and start playing SC2"
If people enjoy the game, they'll play it. If people don't enjoy the game, they won't. If they think upgrades are necessary to ALREADY SUCCESSFUL GAMES that are still doing well, they'll create a sequel (SF2?).

It's not a CS 1.6 rip-off, it's like they took everything good about CS and made it awful, and then released it. SA is so garbage. With that being said, CoD and BF are garbage too, so meh.
Honestly, I'm not surprised to see this. I can't imagine him wanting to continue playing so a coaching role would be best, and since LoL is much bigger inside of Korea it's a good choice.

As for yellow and LoL, I am disappointed that LoL, a game which is pretty bad to watch, fun to play is getting popular and dragging players away. I can imagine playing it for fun ' I have' but I don't understand why people play it competitively compared to other MOBA's.

You should never build ap on cho, ap cho does insiginfigant damage in the late game and is hardly tanky. If you build him tank he is a cc spitting, damage soaking, feasting monster. Those jocked-out kids have a deeper understanding of the game than you.

I for one like that casual games get more spotlight Boxer is considered too old to play bw and even sc2 to it fullest with 32 years (that is 3 years more than me!!!!!) While Hollyfield and Couture can fight (box and mma) at their fullest with near 50 years, perhaps more casual games can result in less physical damage and people not having to retire/become coach so soon. I still cant accept bw hurts people more than mma ....

The thing about LoL is that the game doesn't underline your mistakes, and point them to you as SC does (supply blocked or too many resources saved up), so you can't tell how bad you are playing or how good you are playing.
What I like to use as an example in LoL for a high skill cap is the pro scene on EUW, there is a number of teams that are "good" and they can take a game from any other team, but then you have ~2/3 teams that manage 75% win ratio within this group making them the "top" teams. recently CLG.eu (a "top" team) had to play against a team (convergence) composed of 2.2k+ elo players (top .05% of all LoL players world wide) for the ipl4 qualifiers on the NA server (convergence was an NA team so that allowed them to pick the tournament server they want to play on)...short story short CLG.eu with 200+ ping made this 2.2k elo players look like scrubs.
oops double post --- wont let me merge them (or delete this one).

As for the LoL I can see why, they play a lot of DOTA based games on WC3 still. The PC rooms have started to pimp out their PC's, they have top specs BUT they only play low spec games.....
Yeah, SA & SF2 is pretty terrible compare to 1.6, but it's Valve that did fucked up in SKorea with CS1.6, they wanted to get paid from pcbangs for using their games (like blizzard did or do with SC2). Now they got CS: Online (looks like a mix of 1.6 and CZ) and from what I know that's free.
Just to make a point, I didn't say that LoL would fail, or that I'm denying it's MASSIVE. I certainly have no claim of prediction.
I'm just saying that I find it a terrible, shallow, hard to follow game. It's ok to play - certainly less frustrating than any good RTS - but I could never get into its pro-scene. And you will never convince me a game without an real economy can have the strategic depth of one with some sort of limited zero-sum resource pool. LoL has none - the characters respawn, you can't really control space - chess doesn't have those weaknesses and it's not even a computer game.
There is no alternative quantum universe you will find where I paid season tickets to watch a LoL league. Might as well watch a fish feeding frenzy at the bottom of a muddy pool.
And it makes me a little bit sad that my favourite zerg of all time is choosing THAT for his future. The first high-level BW game I ever saw was YelloW vs BoxeR! *sniff*

You have the right to hate the game. Not sure what coming into a thread and telling everyone is going to do for you though.
Also LoL is a game all about controlling space and areas of the map, whether you think so or not.

There's a humorous pun in there somewhere.
So what is Yellow going to be doing exactly? Strategy? Because I doubt he can help the players mechanically.
It will be more of a managing job than a coaching job. YellOw has a decade of progaming experience, so he knows a lot about how to structure a team (training regimen, player discipline, support and teamwork, etc). He's also a very well known person in the industry so his face adds profile to the team which can help with attracting sponsors and fans.

Wasn't arguing about SC2 vs LoL. I was saying makes me sad that the RTS (BW or SC2 or War3 or anything) scene is in such a state that a player with the stature of the Storm Zerg would choose a game like LoL no matter how popular, which is inferior to any RTS, to spend his energies on. And he's by no means alone (notes Kim Carrier interview). It implies there's no opportunities in BW anymore, and even if SC2 wasn't his taste as a player, surely you'd think it was closer to his interests than a DotA game. As I said the very first SC progame that I saw was a Boxer Vs Yellow match.
LoL taking over seems inevitable, but that doesn't make it right. The best conclusion I can make is that the Match fix scandal did real, permanent harm, like worst of the doomsayers predicted, to the RTS scene.

Oh wow, inferior to any RTS? Please enlight me your thoughts. How can very different games with big e-Sports scenes be so easily told as inferior and superior?
I enjoy playing LoL because it's just some casual fun, but I really don't get the whole competitive scene. It's not a hard game at all to play and it's not interesting to watch for me.
I really hate LoL. In my opinion it is just a worse version of DotA/DotA2. This game only includes decision making and nothing more is required to be a pro at that game. You can´t deny your own creeps or anything. I respect the decision of Yellow even if I think it´s probably one of the worst decision he could have made at all.... This post is surely very disrespectful to the "LoL scene" but this is only my impression.

I am happy he is still here, I hate when heroes just disappear But he is still here.
I think he his the coach because of his "name".
"Oh look! XY ex-BW progamer is the coach of Z team in LoL. It must be a good game if he chosed it and get that far to became a coach. So I will try the game, and watch the events because of him" This happened when Boxer switched to sc2 as well. I think the only reason behind Yellow chosed LoL is that the give more money. But i could be wrong.
It's too bad that he's coaching instead of doing SC2, especially after he tried so hard to get Code A. But, whatever, as you said: at least he's still in eSPORTS.
Good luck to him, I guess. I don't really follow LoL, but if it's really growing that much in Korea, it might be the right decision by Yellow to do it. For the SC2 Code A thing, I remember that he actually failed to make a deep run, which might very well be the reason for him to stop playing it. The qualifiers are extremely stacked, so it would have taken tremendous amounts of training for him to get trough (something he was maybe not willing to go through). Anyways, gl in the future, Storm Zerg.
I think this is a good move for Yellow considering his team beat the best NA team (CLG) yesterday in the OGN champions tournament CLG are also considered a top 3 team in the world.. Also at the match next to Yellow was the coach of oGs (TheWind).. Apparently oGs might follow into the steps of StarTale and MVP and also make a LoL team. I hope some foreign sc2 teams add a LoL team.

Here is a highlight video of the first game:
Edit: In the VOD description is a link to the full match, but you will have to register an account. (Takes only a few seconds, as you are immediately logged in when you create it.)
1) eStars Holdings, which sponsored oGs until now, dropped sponsorship at the beginning of May. They will be concentrating on LoL, sponsoring Xenics Storm.
2) All contracts with players, including TheWind, are canceled. TheWind and players are planning to rebuild the team together. It is unclear who will be willing to stay on. They are also planning to change the name.
3) All members of e-Sports Federation decided not to sign oGs players for certain period of time (unclear as to how long).
(Note: Members of e-Sports Federation are Startale, IM, Prime, MVP, oGs, NSHoseo, FXO, TSL and ZeNEX)

Why should we be happy about thi- wait, is that a SC2 team disbanding there? A sad day for ESPORTS.
no shit, this was NaDa's old team and the partner team of liquid, what about those two?

Please, as far as I am concerned you speak for yourself Oo Great character.

Nada's on Complexity now. Liquid was starting to play as their own team in the GSTL already. It was apparently a big surprise, because Aria joined oGs yesterday, according to Liquipedia.

All the current SC2 teams are going to die soon, or at least most of them. Zenex and TSL probably won't make it through the year, certainly.
Besides, there's a certain irony in it being Yellow who claims the first scalp. KeSPA will claim the rest, and pretty much everyone who abandoned BW for SC2 before KeSPA is going to be destroyed,

It would've been a good target of my anger if only fOrGG wasn't on the team, I'm one bitter BW guy

Yeah, I wouldn't be so sure there, you are talking doomsday shit. TSL is better than ever lately, ZeNEX has found a foreign team to join. If they would have died it would have happened already. You are saying Kespa is going to "claim the rest" yet, form what everyone has heard, GOM and KeSPA want to work together harmoniously... Who knows, I could be wrong, you could be wrong and we could die in december. But I think you are exagerrating just a LITTLE bit.

I can only speak for myself.
I have nothing against SC2. What I have a problem with is Blizzard using SC2 to control eSports, and the ESPORTS crowd who take whatever Blizzard does, ignoring the decade of eSport development that happened the past 10 years.
I have no interest on LoL as a game, but I like how its competitive scene is being developed in Korea. It is the model I would have liked to see with SC2 and BW, rather than the mess Blizzard created with lawsuits. In a way, oGs is a victim of collateral damage.
