First of all, Happy Birthday!
Only 1 player will qualify per group, all matches will be bo3. There will also be a wildcard for hiya's spot, it will be a tourney for all 2nd placers in the groups. It will be single elimination, all bo1 (assuming they do it the same way they did last time). It is important to note that the wildcard for Hogil's spot was how Jangbi advanced from the qualifiers last time and we all knew what happened after that.
Though I find it weird that you are asking these questions since I seem to have the notion that you have been here on TL for a couple of years now.

Also, no reach. TT
I have only joined tl.net in the year 2010 but I have been watching proleague on youtube casted by klazart in the year 2008 . So yeah I am pretty much familiar with msl format but I never seem to understand with osl style of preliminaries however now I know how it works thanks to you .

Wow, with many B-teamers gone, the groups are all so stacked. Usually there would always be one of two obvious choices per group. This is going to be exciting.
Bisu should make it out of his group, then ODT will be filled with zergs, so he should make it toooooo !
I hope BeSt can qualify, but his group is pretty stacked.
edit : Oh I was wondering why there were so few players, ACE not participating. I hate myself for not realizing FBH was missing. Damn it. Thanks Ryo as usual.
I really don't Bisu coming out of his group that easy. Barracks and Roro can beat him in a straight game, Ryul and Bisang can/will cheese, plus Bisu's performance (at the moment, and always in OSL) is rather weak. Going to be a huge deal for him. Hopefully it will not have a huge impact for the PL finals.
I dont see why people think bisu is gonna lose to Roro or Ryul. Tho he's PvT is shaky its by no means shit, and his mechanics alone are good enough to crush newcomers. Then the Roro game...hello? its BvZ and bisu is sexier so =P lol
oh man its been so long i almost forgot how nice it feels when a new tourney begins. To bad we got no more msl when we used to have them running side by side we would get those 2 weeks where there is BW every single night.

historically Bisu's Proleague "B"vZ stats don't apply to OSL.
check out his OSL record against Shine or Hyvaa for example and compare it to the SPL record xD
I don't think he will make it out of the prelims :p

Bisu's official OSL record against Hyvaa is actually 2-0. Including the prelims, it's 3-2. It's just that nobody remembers the games he wins, only the ones he loses lol

true enough, on the other hand he has a 100% non-OSL related win record against hyvaa and 80% non OSL wins against Shine, there's a pattern =)
Bisu is not going to lose to any random terrans or zergs. His superior mechanics alone almost guarantees that. While Roro took a game off him it is unlikely to happen again. If Bisu is going to go out to any low-profile players its going to be a toss because PvP is a build-order luckfest.

Yeah, Bisu has never been eliminated in a humiliating fashion by any mediocre Zerg or Terran player, it can't happen, he has the mechanics ! Edit : just like Flash and that MST group, 2 mediocre terran, Flash is 75% TvT, can't happen right ?

I have some questions. 1) Does anyone what maps will be in the prelims? 2) Are all games broadcasted, e-sportstv maybe? Where will I have to look for spoiler-free vods?

Sick lineup already, given that this might be the last osl, I really want bisu, tossgirl, best, shuttle, soulkey, effort, crazyhydra and horangi to qualify.
The CJ Zerg in Group G is rare_Lt, not sure why his name listed there is different from on TLPD but the name in the OP is correct according to the KeSPA and LoteM sites. SKT Zerg in Group I is Sea.Hak (now KT.MGW)Hak I think), he's in TLPD under the name in the OP.
Of course I'll be cheering for Stork when it comes down to the elimination stages, but for the prelims, I'll be cheering for the Khan boys. I'd say Brave has a fair chance of making it, but for the rest, blehhh... going to be tough!

She is in one tough group, doubt she has any slim chance of winning.
If I'm not mistaken the qualifiers are not broadcasted
If its like the past seasons, important and interesting games are gonna be broadcasted. Some while the game is going on while others being something like delayed telecast (commentating is still live) because the games would overlap. But this season, with less groups and 2 days (it was only 1 day before) they might be able to broadcast all games.

Don't be silly. It's the military we're talking about. They(the progamers) should be thankful they're allowed to continue playing BW while serving their term. It's not like the military is pulling the plug off for the entire team, and the 'punishment' seems acceptable enough; not too harsh, yet enough to get the point over.

Wow.. way to demoralize the players from what they are dreaming of - individual success in the golden league. Sure that will help motivate proleague performance.. Sigh, Sometimes the military is so frustrating to deal with.

they did definitly worse in earlier years in Proleague and yet still participated in individual leagues.. I call bs and think that this is indeed something else..

Agreed. The administration punishing ACE for teamleague inferiority is like punishing a baby for being short.
It's not about whether it's "acceptable". Of course it's acceptable. The South Korean air force can do whatever they want with their starcraft team (lol). The point is that it's completely stupid. The teams that do well aren't the ones with manic-depressive management like STX. Look at KT: "Performance in the OSL preliminaries is important for morale, so we'll put a lot of effort into that." (I paraphrase.) ACE: "So you can't beat teams that have more practice partners, more star power, and fewer distractions? Too bad, I guess this OSL isn't for you." Everyone knows ACE is handicapped, and when FBH turns out to be the strongest player they've ever had, they never send him out. What. The. Heck.

Is it confirmed that there will be wildcard held for the Hiya's spot? Some people on the FOMOS are claiming that he will indeed participate in this starleague according to his stream.

T1 has done this exact same thing before.
Teams also did this with GOM too.
Allowing players to participate in only 1 or 2 individual leagues is miles away from allowing them to participate in 0.
Also --- if it's a matter of time constraints, it's different. Perhaps they can't fulfill their military duty while competing in the OSL. I'd understand that. I just think it's dumb if the purpose is disciplinary, because it will backfire.

That would be so incredible :D
I think I would just have to cheer for Hiya to win the whole thing if he actually did that.

This is the first OSL I'm going to watch from start to end. Can please someone tell me what BYE means and the groups work out (like, does Ryul2 play more opponents than BByong) and how many sets that are played in each group?
On March 28 2012 04:04 kamikami wrote: Wait, who is Bye (the opponent of Bisu) ? Which race does he play ? I haven't heard of this "Bye" player before ? He's an amateur ???
BYE is so good that he's been seeded in the qualifiers like fifteen times. Unfortuantely I heard he's quite terrible at Brood War so I expect him to fail at every one of that opportunities. You can see even KeSPA expects this by having 'blank/no player' on every slot of BYE. Such BM.

he's the same Bye from the foreign ISL starleague, quite a famous player.

It's actually KeSPA's BM knowing that Bisu might in fact not make it out of qualifiers again so they're just saying Bye. (Just a simple attack on Bisu for the fan tears he's caused me to have T.T)
The number of groups is lower and the groups are more stacked this season due to fewer B-teamers and players in general. A lot of good players won't get through.
With the rumor of this OSL be the last event featuring our beloved game, I wouldn't be surprised if every single BW pros under the jurisdiction of KeSpa would strive with their utmost effort in order to engrave their names in the hall of fame. Everything is placed in the line, be it destiny, be it fate. That being said, lads and gents, we have arrived at the highest point of the roller coaster in this amusement park. The beauty of this ride ahead will be such an incredible high. On the way down as gravity pulls us closer to the ground, we will be witnessing the cripest quality of StarCraft games ever to be witnessed by mortal beings...
I don't think this will be the last OSL. Even if they introduce an SC2 OSL and can't secure a sponsor willing to spend a lot of money for the next one and thus have lower prize money, I think there will be a BW OSL as long as people in Korea are interested in BW. edit: for clarity

It isn't really an OSL if its not a Brood War OSL anyways.

I meant they'll probably have a BW OSL alongside an SC2 OSL (which would be pretty lame). With BW being more popular than SC2 in South Korea, it wouldn't make any sense to completely remove BW unless OGN completely shuts down. OGN shutting down is highly unlikely since Kespa is negotiating with Blizzard about SC2.

It's pretty hard to make it out of qualifiers when you retire.
Not that he would have made out of group in first place.

I just read about it. I are so sad... The last legend is leaving.
OGN has not updated the broadcast schedule on their website yet but according to media reports, the prelims/qualifiers on the 31st of March and 1st of April will be broadcasted live from 1pm KST onwards. The ODT is scheduled to start on 14th April, 1pm KST. Following that, all ODT matches will be played at 1pm on Saturdays and Sundays.

hmmm, so they're taking the PL timeslot so that they can run LoL and OSL without any trouble.

Ya, also Bisu would need to be seeded in the qualifiers fifteen times to make it out. Sadly, KeSPA is not so nice to him.
I was expecting a SKT tag. BvZ the whole OSL? Hopefully not, people will talk shit if he wins an OSL by playing only Zergs. But honestly I am pleased to see him win an OSL.

Pretty sure that's impossible anyway. OSL runs on a lottery system now, ever since Bacchus '10. Seeds don't get to pick groups anymore.
Im so happy this is finally happening. BW forever please!
Edit: And poor Ace players ;( Must have been really sad hearing the news for them, like their parents keeping them from attending a field trip or something

This makes absolutely no sense since ACE NEVER does well in the proleague.

I mean, I don't know his status with Kespa, and I know he's got a sc2 team, but I'm saying it would have been cool for him to compete if he were able, seeing as it may be one of (if not the) last pro bw only tourny in Korea.

wait a sec, I thought Hiya retired. is he back for this tournament in hope of getting recruited by a team this season? Has he been practicing off season?

IIRC, he's been streaming on afreeca. I believe he's been practicing quite a bit.
I just realized how falling into the prelims is like falling into limbo. Once you get there, it much be very hard to get out. In cases like Bisu, Stats and Best, you have to face players you usually never see so it's hard to determine their play styles. Whereas they know everything about you. Not saying that that's an acceptable excuse for not making it out of the prelims, but it's something to think about..
I will cheer for Hiya as much as for Jangbeee and Storky, this kid seriously needs to get recruited asap, SC scene without him just isn't the same. Not to mention that he also was pretty good Terran. Once again, JANGBI, STORK AND HIYA HWAITINGGGGG~~

I disagree. The prelims is usually a different class of player than the actual tournament. If you consistently fail to exit the prelims w/o having a path of death, probably belong to the different (lower) class of player.

We will have Jangbi vs Stork and everything will be fine, until next year and another OSL.
Haha. I almost think that Bisu likes trolling his fans. Honestly surprised about Leta and Stats though... prelims always make me wonder if a Bo3 would lead to more reliable results.

While those are both upsets, I cannot say that I'm that surprised about Stats not making it because his play has been subpar in the playoffs and they took full advantage of that.

Prelims are Bo3 though, unless i misunderstood. yea, im surprised about Leta, although his games were not showed, and the zerg who beat him got out of his group. Stats got rushed by Rush, who also got out of his group

It's Bo3, rather unfortunately (for eliminated players)...
