Heyyo, bunch of outdated stuff below. For SSL8 news, take a look over at this post
I need to find a bigger image
First off, what the hell is SOSPA? Created by the Afreeca BJ (Broadcasting Jockey) Sonic, SOSPA's original purpose was a sort of a joke/parody of KeSPA. Currently, the main function of SOSPA is providing a ranking of players who participate in Sonic's various events/tournies.
Events? Tournies?? Yep! Sonic organizes and hosts these tournies/events on a regular basis for the SOSPA players. Currently there are five main things he organizes that count toward SOSPA ranking:
King of the Hill - Self-explanatory. The more you win, the more money you get!
Sonic All-stars vs Clan/Team/Country/Anything - Basically, Sonic assembles a team of whoever is available vs any team that takes up the challenge. 6v6 All-kill format. Usually there is some amount of Balloons at stake here (like 1k Balloons, which is 100k won)
BJ Ranking Tourney - Basically a normal tournament, but unsponsored. Smaller prize pool.
Starleague - A tournament that has a sponsor. Bigger prize pool!
Event matches - Usually BoX between two players
In addition to those, a SOSPA Proleague is in the works, complete with sponsored teams and salaried players!
My god, where can I watch them?!?!! Two methods: [*]Go to afreeca.com and use the web player! It's super easy, just install whatever it wants you to and it should be fine :D [*]If you have a smartphone or tablet, you can download the free Afreeca app and watch it anywhere through that. There is a guide at the bottom of this post detailing how to use the Android Afreeca Mobile app.
How can I help??? Afreeca streamers make money by cashing in Balloons or Stickers they receive from their viewers. Sonic also runs/manages an online store called "신발팜" (Shoe Farm), and making a purchase through that would also help him. Unfortunately, I believe this is out of the question for most people
So, the best way to show your support to Sonic and other BW Broadcasters is to watch their stream and "Recommend" (give 추천) it (explained in the Afreeca Mobile section below). It'll boost the BJ's ranking, and to more exposure.
So yea, that's the gist of SOSPA!! Now .. onto some news of some recent things
1st Place: 3mil Won4mil Won!! 2nd Place: 2mil Won 3rd Place: 1mil Won
Starts at Ro32 will be an offline Dual tournament (each match Bo3, split over 2 days), Ro16 onward will be BoX held in an offline setting at Sonic's office/studio.
Ro32 Maps:
1. Neo Jade 2. Neo Electric Circuit 3. Fighting Spirit
Ro16 Maps:
4. Wind and Cloud (one of the new maps by Rose.Of.Dream) 5. New Sniper Ridge
Pretty graphics! Same guy who worked on the graphics for the following leagues:
Korean Air ONGAMENET Starleague 2010 Dual Tournament
MBC GAME Hana-Daetoo MSL 2010
MBC GAME ABCMart MSL 2011
SK Planet Pro League Season1 2011
Recent/other stuff
Sonic All-stars vs jat clan I heard was pretty good, ending with Killer beasting it up at the end. I haven't seen it yet, but I think it should be shown on the rerun
Killer won the most recent (9th) Ranking Tourney against .. some terran in a very close series 4-3.
A SOSPA website is supposed to go up sometime in the future. Not sure of the details.
Sonic sometimes does fun/random shit instead of broadcasting leagues. Most recently, he broadcasted him playing while Mong "coached" him (i.e. cussing at him a lot lolol)[
I would like to note that, a lot of these things are personally funded by Sonic himself. He is the owner/manager of a fairly successfuly online store called 신발팜 (Shoe Farm) and he uses the profits to help fund a lot of these things. Sonic really does love Broodwar
For those of you who can read/comprehend Korean, you can visit Sonic's Afreeca page for his announcements. It'll be better than relying on my shoddy summarizations of these things heh
Many thanks to my friend John who really helped me out with this! Couldn't have done this without you
First off, go to the website afreeca.com. Making an account is recommended, but not necessary. Click on the circle highlighted to launch the web player.
If this is your first time, say yes to downloading the program/plugin. During the installation, you can uncheck everything since spam is bad.
First, click on the highlighted button, 게임. Once selected, it should roll down even more options. You want to click on the one I have highlighted, 스타. And there we go, all the Starcraft streams.
Find the search bar, highlighted in the picture. With this method, you can be more specific with your search. Type in whatever. In this case, I plugged in Sonic's Afreeca ID "sogoodtt". Some other popular streams are "h78rt" (Killer) "aiseiteru99" (Hiya) "cksgmldbs" (Mong), etc etc.
If you typed it in correctly and they're online, you should get a result like this. Notice how of the 3 results, there's one w/ a different view count. That's a "Relay Room", which is created when a broadcaster's room is full. You can use this search method to find a broadcaster's relay room when their main room is full.
So you wanna watch the broadcast, but you don't know what to click. There are three different things you can click
Clicking on the image to the left will initiate the broadcast. Once you click on it, the Broadcast window should go black and start loading. Ads need to load before you can watch a stream, and it can take a looooooooooong time to load. Make sure you have ad-block turned off.
The two buttons highlighted on the bottom do two different things. The left button will take you to the BJ's home page. The right button will give you 3 more options: -Top button is "Pop-up" which spawns another Afreeca player, with less options. -Second button is PIP, which spawns another broadcast within the broadcast you are already watching. Broadcastception -Third button is "Mini-Mode", which is pretty much the same thing as the pop-up player ..
5. The Broadcast itself - Supporting the Broadcaster via "Recommend" + Show Spoiler +
I feel this particular tidbit deserves a section by itself, because this is the best way one can support.
The "Recommend" button is the one highlighted in the picture. You can give it to each BJ once a day. If your popup blocker is off, then it will pop up a window giving you the option to post on the broadcaster's msg board (you can't anyways lol).
Doing this on a regular basis will increase the broadcaster's ranking, and exposure. If you want to support, but don't have money to give, this is the best way to do it.
There are numbers top-left of each thing that I will explain
1 - Logout 2 - Toggles chat box on and off 3 - Toggles Broadcast list on and off 4 - Title of the broadcast 5 - BJ's Afreeca ID 6 - Information about the Broadcast, comes up if you move your mouse over the stream. In the order, its: -Views by PC, Mobile, Relay Room, and total viewers that watched since it started. -Then it the 2000k is the quality. -Then it shows the resolution of the Broadcast. -And finally, it shows which date the broadcast was started, and for how long it's been running 7 - Aspect ratio options 8 - Stop player 9 - Sound Control 10 - Give Balloons (money required) 11 - Give Stickers (Money required) 12 - Give Recommend (Boosts ranking, no money required) 13 - Add to bookmarks/favorites 14 - Previously seen Broadcast history 15 - Users who are viewer, sorted by ID and then their nickname 16 - Chat room 17 - chat box
On the "Broadcast List" box, you notice there's a second tab "즐겨찾기" That's your bookmarks/favorites list
It'll show all your favorites that are online, and the offline ones too. The button by the Refresh button top right, "목록편집" will toggle the ability to delete streams from your favorites. To delete, click on the grey circle w/ an x in it on the top right of the stream preview image.
Afreeca is a P2P based connection system, instead of a server-based. The more viewers there are, the more chatting there's going on, the further away you are from Korea, the laggier your stream is gonna be. Unless you have a fucken boss internet, lag will be unavoidable w/ the more popular streams.
Prime time Afreeca is night-late night at Korea. There are some BJs who leave a restream on 24/7 or play/stream at weird hours, but most of them don't stream until that time.
If you wanna chat and stuff, you have to verify yourself by sending an ID to Afreeca. I haven't bothered doing this myself, so I don't know all the details
This is what you should see when you first launch it. The icon on the left is for Broadcasting, and the icon on the right is for watching Broadcasts. For the purposes of this guy, just select the right one.
Man, if there'll be some kind of mass retiring going to happen next season then I know where to wait for them . This is some really really really great news omg!!!!
Man, It's Killer's first month in the SOSPA ranking and he's already #4? Mong with 74% winrate? I guess we now have our underground versions of Flash and Jaedong.

I don't really feel like translating these atm (sleepy @_@). Basically its the sponsor/team name (for now), and then the parantheses indicates what kind of sponsor it is. 쇼핑몰스폰 = shopping mall sponsor, 웹하드스폰 = online web-based file storage site sponsor, 컴퓨터스폰 = computer ..? assuming its a store or something sponsoring, 개인스폰 = a person sponsoring

Thank you for sharing this !
Afreeca BJs earn money through "Balloons" and "Stickers", which the viewers buy and then give to various BJs at their own discretion. I'm not sure if foreigners can buy those things though, so yea idk how you can support financially,
The only way I can think of to support Sonic is to make an Account (foreigners can make acc on Afreeca ezpz, but someone has to make a guide first I guess), and give him 추천 (reccomendation) to boost his ranking, which can be done through the mobile app if you are logged in.
Someone should get him in touch with the twitch people so he can get partnered on twitch and be able to stream on Twitch and Afreeca, and then he can make some money off of the Twitch stream.
I'm going to sleep now, but tomorrow I'll be working on a guide on how to make an Afreeca account. It'll be helpful for those who have a smartphone/tablet and want to support by giving Sonic or other Starcraft BJs 추천 (boosts ranking), and also for those others who want to buy a foreigner pass.
This may take a while though, so if anyone beats me to the punch, you're welcome to do so.
This is of course absolutely amazing news. Thanks for bringing it to us, I assume anyone who has followed the scene for some time was confident the Koreans wouldn't let the game die as easy as that! Things we need to concentrate on: Coverage. VODs, possibly live rebroadcasts or even getting the BJs to stream on twitch if possible. Showing our support. It would be best if a few people who are interested and know Korean well enough would gather and come up with some sort of a plan for this. My knowledge of korean is only limited atm, but if that happens I'm sure you will find people to help you in ways that do not require knowing Korean (like splitting VODs, uploading to YT and making vod threads, making battle reports, hype videos, mantaining a liquipedia page. I'd be interested in doing all of the above.
We desperately need more access to this stuff. This feels like 2003 all over again! Even if we have to rely on battle reports from mensrea I would be very much satisfied.
im sure i saw savior and luxury playing sonic events.and savior got big sponsor for his stream. maybe savior jus tnot get results or not included in ranks ;;

Ironically, Sonic was the one of the first people who pushed for return of Savior. Then he banned him from his leagues afterwards after the fans bashed him for bringng him back.
Another way not listed to watch afreeca is to dl bluestacks. Bluestacks is just a program that lets you use android apps on your PC.
Also, on a random note, about a few months ago, Sonic even had July play BW (and he was casting random event at that time too I think) on his stream. I forget who the terran was (maybe Sonic himself?) but it was just July fending off a bunker rush lol.
Also arv, can you check around and see if Minho got a new stream? Apparently, he closed his old BJ account but no idea if he got a new one. (old one was http://afreeca.com/djwp0531 )
It'd be cool if we could get some active people to provide an official restream on TL. The only active restream has been bgvrt but he's not on TL due to savior being banned.

Really cool. I tried putting Afreeca on an old iphone, but unfortunately the videos didn't work at all with the ap... Then I found a way to watch them just off the site with the phone somehow, but it buffers every thirty seconds for 10 seconds, so it was totally unwatchable Afreeca seems amazing, I wish they would expand their market. I know that Sonic must be making his money thru Afreeca, so it's sort of a shame to restream/reup his VODs... Someone should convince him he can monetize a youtube account. Feels like 2003 all over again... So close yet so far, amazing VODs just outside of reach.

Sorry for all of those who are having trouble with Afreeca on the phone/tablet. If you've downloaded it, along w/ korean keyboard functionality, here's a quick guide:
1)Launch Afreeca, and select the button on the right (with the big green circle and play symbol), and then you should be directed to the On Air tab 2)In the search, type in 스타 (type ㅅㅡㅌㅏ in that order, must have Korean keyboard installed), and that will bring up all the Starcraft streams (some results won't be BW though) 3)Sonic's is the one that starts with [소닉TV]. You can also differentiate w/ ID, so I guess an reference list is in order lol

ya pretty much this, Savior is banned from Sonic leagues because of the fans lol. Savior still streams regularly and does a lot w/ Terror, but this thread isn't about Savior so let's move on.

Yeah but hey, this might be an opportunity to support our esport directly.
The money is paid to afreeca, so I dont think its directly sponsoring the organisation/competition itself.
yep, although I guess you could say that it helps BW/Sonic by proxy lol

I will have to add that in later
and minho got banned for a month for playing strip games on stream LOL ... not sure if he's unbanned yet lmfao. Terror has also been banned on occasions too for doing .. extreme things
I also felt the need to add a note about how Sonic actually funds a lot of these things with his own money, the profits from his successful online store business. A rather important detail that I seemed to have forgotten to include when I first wrote this .. ;p
On September 10 2012 03:18 GhandiEAGLE wrote: Savoir plays on Afreeca, no? Shouldn't he be on the list there?
Well, Sonic doesn't like Savior because of his past in e-sports. Which he also does not like 1a2a3a[fou] or Terror[fou] because 1a2a3a put Savior in his own tournament.

Thanks for the post. Seeing the brackets of those starleagues fueled my savior fanboyism and it would be a shame to see him being banned from this new beginning although i'd understand sponsors being turned off. I guess the whole second chance thing we so often bring up is just empty talk and that's sad.
However savior brings in the most amount of fans you could imagine... why is that a bad thing for sponsors?

But yea, Savior is banned, end of story. Please do not discuss Savior in this thread.

On September 09 2012 19:30 ArvickHero wrote: My god, where can I watch them?!?!! That depends. If you live in Korea, it's as simple as making an account and launching Afreeca (Sonic has his channel on 24/7 and reruns recent/past events).
Otherwise, you have three options [yes, this means without a korean ip]:
If you have a smartphone (or tablet I think, not sure), you can download the free Afreeca app and watch it anywhere through that.
Using a proxy could work. I had one that worked for about a week, and it was glorious. Unfortunately now it doesn't work and I haven't found a replacement.
Buy a foreigner pass. Afreeca sells these things for about $13/month, which allows you to access Afreeca outside of Korea and gives you Quickview benefits (no ads, better stream quality/access).
Sorry to say there is no convenient way as of yet
^ There's also programs like "Bluestacks" which allow you to run android apps on Windows, so basically simmulating option 1). Somebody else probably mentioned it as well in this thread... Personally I tried it but never got the video to work, only sound. But apparently it should work - and the app itself is easy to use. Just google+download Bluestacks, then add afreeca tv in the app, and launch it. Nothing complicated there, unless you run into an issue like I did :T
Thanks for taking the time to lay out all the information.
I have a few IDs for the rankings list:
손경훈 = Sea.Kh, Ex-CJ trainee and Semi-Pro. Known for creative PvZ and playing a tonne of LoL. 김은호 = NtO`Kara, Amateur. 최아신 = AsiaSin[ScM], Semi-Pro. 스마일 = NtO`Smile, Amateur. 박상현 = Soma[Kal], Amateur.
is it possible for anyone from tl.net to get in contact with sonic and/or stream the tourneys (with adding to tl calendar) like spl/sl in the past years?
pretty sure that it requires a korean creditcard to buy the foreigner access. at least it did when i tried a while ago. because it's not so much foreigner access, as just for koreans living outside of korea

First off, download the Afreeca app and also Korean Keyboard functionality.
When you launch Afreeca it should look like this + Show Spoiler +
Click on the icon indicated by the giant red circle, which will lead you to the main interface of Afreeca + Show Spoiler +
To login, select the top right icon, translated to "More". It should bring you to this page + Show Spoiler +
Click on the log in icon, and logging in shouldn't take any explanation. The page should look like this + Show Spoiler +
If you logged in successfully, you should see this page + Show Spoiler +
Nothing of use, so press the back button and go back to the "More" page. If you want, you can fiddle around with your settings, which I have translated (liberally) + Show Spoiler +
If you want to change up how the broadcasting is organized, here is the translated options of that + Show Spoiler +
Anyways, after all that, you can go back to the main page to find the broadcasts you want to see. Here it is again for reference + Show Spoiler +
The first way you can find broadcasts is by using the search function. Typing in 스타 (press the symbols ㅅㅡㅌㅏ in that order) will show you all the online Starcraft streams, or you could be more specific by typing in the broadcaster's ID (Sonic's is sogoodtt, Mong is cksgmldbs, etc etc .. will compile a list later). It should look like this + Show Spoiler +
The other way is to select the Category icon, and then game. It'll show all the game broadcasts, so its less specific than the search method. Here's how the categories should look like + Show Spoiler +
Regardless of method, you should eventually stumble upon the broadcast you wish to see. If you're using your 3G or 4G connection, you should see this when you select the broadcast + Show Spoiler +
Just hit OK and the broadcast should start. And bam, you get to watch Afreeca on your phone. Should look sorta like this + Show Spoiler +
Now you notice how I circled one thing, and squared another. Those two are very important. The circled icon gives the broadcaster "추천", or "recommendation", which boosts the broadcaster's ranking. You can give these to each broadcaster once a day, and is possibly the best way to support them other than giving them balloons/stickers.
The other icon allows you to favorite/bookmark that broadcast. Makes it much easier finding that stream again, and to give 추천 on a regular basis
Now go back to the main page. Here it is again for reference + Show Spoiler +
Now each broadcast you bookmark is automatically set to notify you when they go online. Naturally, you dont want ALL of them to be set like that. So click the Notification Settings icon. Then you should see this. + Show Spoiler +
You can turn the notification setting on/off for each broadcast. When you're done, hit the done icon.
And that's about it to mobile afreeca! Yea there's a shitload more other stuff, but that's all you need to know to watch SC :D and it would take up way too much time explaining lol
I'll add both of these guides to the OP sooner or later, in a much better format .. sorry for the ugliness of these guides, but I'm a little lazy lol
They seem to hate foreigners on there? I was put on mute because I spoke English, and people were telling me to "Shut my mouse ㅋㅋㅋ" (yes they said mouse)
So mean.
I got put on mute status, twice. For saying Hello. Oh well, I can still enjoy the streams.
edit:
Easiest way to watch streams on foreign IP is to download the Afreeca app.
I also got Afreeca to work for a little bit using a Korean socks5 proxy, but it was really, really laggy and terrible to use. The connection would drop a lot.
However, a more reliable way is to buy a Korean VPN (cost me $9, and gives me servers across the world, not just Korea), which I currently use. Runs perfectly fine, streams don't sit and constantly buffer like they did on my afreeca app and proxy.

Some time ago, a Korean friend of mine lent me his account but I still couldn't watch the streams. I guess I can watch with this app without account cool.

It's like speaking spanish on a forum or game lobby. Kind of annoying for everyone who isn't fluent in spanish.
Ok, big update to the OP. Added more details about how you can watch Afreeca, namely Bluestacks, more details about foreigner pass, and such. Also added a little section after that about how you can support Afreeca, even if you have no money.
I replaced the spoilered list of the September ranking with an image, now has more information and looks better. Some names are still untranslated, but oh well
An update to the upcoming 7th SonicTV Starleague, with an increase in Prize money! 4mil won to the first place winner now instead of 3mil
And at the bottom of the OP, I've added a guide of how to register for an Afreeca account, and how to use the Android Afreeca Mobile app (sorry iPhone users! Maybe someone w/ an iPhone can do it ): ). It should be MUCH easier to read than the text-vomit I wrote out earlier.

anyways, BIG updates about both the upcoming SonicTV Starleague and Proleague!! Sonic has released a calender of the Starleague and the Ro32 group! The OP has been updated as such and .. I guess you don't really need to understand Korean to comprehend this yes? :D
As for Proleague, more solid details about it are starting to come out, one of the biggest things being Team rosters! I have taken the liberty of translating some of the team names, but a few I left untranslated because I wasn't sure of the proper translation.
I'm a little disappointed Sonic chose to do Winners-league style instead of Proleague style, but its still pretty damn awesome Each Proleague "season" is supposed to go for a month I believe, and the first place prize is 5mil won .. not bad at all!

Well, you are right about all of it but still this is the closest thing to KeSPA BW PL out there (tell me if I'm missing out something, you're Korean and I'm not so you probably know better than me).

Sorry, but what you did was kinda dumb. This has nothing to do with foreigner hate, TL has an English only policy too, and would ban you if you repeated posted in a different language. It is annoying for users who can't understand you on a site which is obviously Korean. The best you could hope for is someone to speak English and then have really dumb irritating small talk with you which no one else understands... Don't do that. What are you expecting.. "oh, you know Lim Yo Hwan... he gosu" "ya I watch bw for years on youtube!" ~~ waste. You would not be able to keep up with or follow the actual conversation of the channel, it would just be your own side conversation.
That is just my explanation... No offense meant to you, but don't think there is any specific foreigner hate. You just need to know the language if you want to communicate with them.

wait .. what? Everything about this post confuses me. First off, these are the best Sonic could get (well, except for StarCue he sucks lol). In fact, many of these players probably could beat the current KeSPA A-teamers now, because of the practice difference. And all of these "B level players" had different circumstances, not simply just "oh lol they suxxed". You would know if you watched them play that they are all incredibly skilled

ArvickHero certainly living up to his name. Thank you and your friend John so much for all the hard work, didn't expect you'd come up with so much in such a short period of time Imo one of the most important questions now is - can we get anyone to re-stream the matches? Or make the VODs accessible? If we can make that happen then we can build up a lot from that..

I went to a couple of different streams and used English, they were completely fine with it. The BJ even replied to me when I asked him "Does the food taste good?" he responded with "Yes the food has is does taste good."
Yet I go to a girls stream and say hello, and they ask me if I was American (in Korean 미국), to which I responded back with Korean, yes [네]. I was instant muted.
Just because a few streams were okay with you speaking English, doesn't mean it's the norm. Chef was spot on with his post. On my stream I routinely have anyone speaking a language besides English warned and then banned.

Sonic has his Broadcast on 24/7 and restreams past/recent events while he's sleeping/at work. So catching/recording the games live won't be a big deal, since it'd probably be better to wait for the restream due to less ppl watching(which is less lag) lol
This also means that Sonic has VODs to many the games/events he's casted. Whether or not he'll release those VODs later on, who knows ..

1. I agree with what you said "Sonic did best" and they are doing great(compared to foreign players), but not with "many of these B levels prob beat KeSPA players". Oh yeah, they probably win 1 out of 10. Have you thought why those players retired? Because they were not good in their internal team league. Even if KeSPA players practice sc2 now, it would be hard for B levels to beat them. Pros have their own secret skills, develop their own b.o, which B levels can't do. That's the difference, no point to discuss this.
2. I didn't say i don't watch foreign tournaments, if i hate foreign scene, why did i organize showmatches(korean vs sziky) or managing Gambit Team or organize ICCUP CL? Don't get me wrong. I love foreign scene more than Korean scene.
3. For sponsors, yes. Mission success. But i think it's waste of money for sponsors(yeah, i'm very pessimistic with this). Even KeSPA couldn't keep their players from manipulated games. Can Sonic do it? Haha.. you would say "No, they know what would happen if they do the same thing what Savior does.." But guess what? Some may know this, but those Afreeca BJs are money whore(even Sonic is afaik), they would do every thing if they can earn money. (Have you heard rumors about Pusan and Savior?) Also, if this can be THE best league, why don't major companys sponsor this?
Hyeon I comeplety disagree with the first part of your post. Can you explain to me why every Brood War game I've seen this PL is a 1 or 2 base all in? There's no way these current Sc2 pros(that's what they are now) are tier above Killer and Hiya. Killer is currently sitting on top of the Fish ladder with 1922 points.
I understand where you are coming from with the rest of your post but people are starving for Brood War, we'll take it anyway we can get it.

I would like to point to Hiya, a former A-teamer, who is not destroying the Afreeca scene .. in fact he's not even doing that great. Killer was also not doing very well when he first started playing in Fish, because he wasn't practicing as much as he was now. Reduced practice time takes its toll .. KeSPA A-teamers are not what they once were.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Afreeca BJs will win 100% of the time. But I wouldn't expect the average KeSPA A-teamer to have a winning record against the BJs who play regularly.
I don't get your hate for Sonic .. what's there to hate about him? Is it because of his past reputation of 100% gag strat streamer? Or him being a "money-whore"?
Ah yea, about that .. yea Sonic does a lot things for balloons and stickers, and he rakes in a loooooot of it. But he doesn't keep all that money to himself .. do you realize how much money he has given away, for his own leagues, other leagues (sudden-attack for example) show-matches, events, etc? Or all the buying of quickviews to give away to his viewers? The guy is practically a fuckin charity for christ's sake.
AFAIK, KeSPA progamers are money-whores too. Stayed on their teams and learned a new game to keep their salaries. Newsflash: everyone does whatever they can to earn money, Afreeca BJs just have to be more entertaining in order to get money from their viewers. Whether or not they'll matchfix, I don't know. But I personally don't think they will. As they say, innocent until proven guilty.
Oh and that rumor? Pusan, on a massive losing streak against Savior, plays against Savior because the viewers said they'd give him balloons if he won. Pusan manages to win, despite the lopsided record between the two, so everyone calls matchfixing? That's a fucking stupid basis of a rumor, and is only flying around because of Savior's past history.
Some sponsors are better than none. The SOSPA scene is still relatively young. Give it some time to grow jeez.

What you are saying is totally different from what i think. It's just waste of time we fight with "who will win or not".

And yea, i know how much money he threw in game leagues, who don't among his fans? But what i hate is that what he does NOW. KeSPA gamers, money whore? LOL At least they don't say "click recommend box plz" or "balloon plz". Also, if you say they(SOSPA/KeSPA gamers) are money whore, it's okay to manipulate games?
With rumor, yeah you know perfectly. Fucking stupid basis of rumor? LOL Who knows? Even if there's little money(like $200) related in Korean Clan League(Bbulsori, actually smurf game was played on BnW League), there was an issue. What if huge money related? Who knows?
P.S What you have "personally thought", i also do have. I shouldn't say what i thought because i ruin your OP? You don't have to dispute with me, just ignore this if you like.

Except there's at least half a dozen of the guys who are part of this SOSPA scene that would thrash Larva in exactly the same way. To be honest, I doubt Mong would even lose one map to Larva if he was trying.

So you hate that Sonic is keeping the BW scene alive, simply because these are just "b gamers"? Some BW lover you are.

Honestly, what is wrong with asking for balloons and recommend? It's how the Afreeca system is set up, what else do you expect? Do you detest waiters that expect a tip, or when there's a donation box at a website you visit? Or when a street performer does something awesome and then asks for donations .. is that so wrong?
Also, if you're so concerned about any sort of issue/scandal/matchfix because there's money involved, then why don't you be concerned about the Foreigner scene you so love? Foreigner scene tournaments have had their share of problems because of money, but do we burn it down because of it? No, we keep supporting it because we have a love for BW
I have an obligation to defend this thread, so don't come in here spreading trash and expect to get off free.
In other news, an updated calender to account for the 추석 holidays:
and here contains a map layout of Sonic's office/studio, along w/ images of the audience area and player waiting room. It's a little weird that there's three different rooms for audience, and that the players and commentator are in separate room .. but we'll see how it pans out ^^

I'll say unlikely, but that's simply just speculation.. ask and you shall find out hehe. I think that they'd definitely be able to organize a Sonic All-stars vs Foreign All-stars though
On September 11 2012 00:21 Hyeon wrote: i really am a BW lover, but i hate what SONIC does. Especially all who participate in this league are B level(like they were banned because of their low skills in their team), those sponsors are unknown for me... Who knows there won't be any manipulated games?
wait ..
Do you hate all foreigner leagues because they aren't progamer level?
As for unknown sponsors .. you didn't know these sponsors before, now you know about them .. Congrats, they have succeeded in their mission!!
And I'm appalled that you would even hint at match-fixing, really :/
Yeah it's folly. The games from the KeSPA players keep dropping and dropping as they make the transition and its been going on for some time. -_-

You're damn right it's a start.
This is how BW first started:
"There were no game channels at first. We just took a ping-pong table that was rolling around somewhere inside the tooniverse company building and put a black cloth over it to use for stage setup and had a very small prize pool. It was just for fun, a small, weird event"

Amount of Kespa players that use Fish ladder is a lot higher than most think but it's hard to know just how widespread it is unless you're zimp. I'll let him elaborate on this point if he sees this thread and wants to. Example being that Eonzerg played Juni in his most recent rep pack released.
Another point people aren't considering is that kespa players stopped practicing FS while people on fish have continued to play there. If there is a place where Fish can equal or better the Kespa players then it's definitely on FS. For example, when Bisu played Larva, he wasn't even using the optimal imba wall at top right. FS has changed a lot from when the Kespa players actively played it.

I don't think that is a fair comparison consider Bisu is bombing at Sc2 and BW is his strength.
I hope there will be vods for this or re streams or something, for those of us who can't figure out how to jump through all those crazy hoops to watch it. This is very exciting though. BW <3

Nice assumption. If zimp finds KeSPA played Fish, i would enjoy that too. But here's why i don't think KeSPA played a lot on fish.
1. Where are those KeSPA players on fish? a. They are playing vs 1300-1500 players to hit higher points : waste of time to play vs them. Their team mates are better than them. b. Okay, cool. Let's say suddenly unknown account(player) hit #1. That should be KeSPA gamer? Some say, yeah he is! Then what happens? There would be lots of replays of that gamer, opponents from other team d/l them and study for that. Next time, every opponents can beat them. : No one from KeSPA player want to be shared his replays.
etc.

The more popular BJs on afreeca can easily make a living through what they make on Afreeca alone. For example, the house you see Terror stream in, he bought that through money earned streaming.
Plus, there are a bunch who still have to do military service so it's pretty easy to just make living on Afreeca until they decide to go into military.
Some like Eagle will even start streaming at 6-7 AM sometimes.

Clearly, your grasp of the english language, or just language in general, is getting in the way of this argument. It wasn't off-topic, it was a comparison to similar situations. What do you care about who is giving the money, when they are doing so at their own discretion and not forced in any way?
And you must not know how things work. There are a lot of things that are provided for free, but ask for a donation in return. There are movies, music, games, and entertainment in general that have been offered for free and asked for donations. I don't see you providing an adequate reason why it's BJs asking for balloons or recommendations.

Yes, they are better than some random players on Fish, i don't deny that neither. But why should 'I' watch B teamers game, and manipulated games(yeah, it didn't happen yet, but who knows it won't happen)?
I don't blame you with 'you shouldn't like what Sonic do'. I just said what i thought.
No, what you said was that KeSPA gamers would beat Afreeca gamers 9/10 times NOW. He and many others have refuted that and now you're changing it to something else. Also, why bother watching anything at all if you're afraid of scandal or manipulation lol

Last night PC Family and Shoe Farm had a fun bet match! Losing team had its manager pay 100k won to each player of the winning team .. + Show Spoiler [results] +
Sonic should be playing it on his restream if you guys wanna watch I personally saw the third game, which was really good, but haven't seen the rest yet .. busy day T^T

How often can we do this? Or is it just a one time thing? I think I did it but the application is so buggy for me that I couldn't get to that thumb the other time around, and I'm getting no picture so I doubt I'll be using it. Can we sign up multiple accounts to recommend it more times?

once per day per broadcaster .. and yea multiple accounts could work, but I wouldn't go overboard with it hahah, might get banned that way or smth
It seems like Anytime, Mahell and Always have withdrawn from the Starleague and have been replaced accordingly. The mistake with the double Minho was also fixed. Tonight 9PM KST, we have PC Family vs 노친네 Team! I'm not sure what 노친네 translates to, I think it's old man lol
Team Rosters: -PC Family: Hiya(T), Mong(T), beast(Z), Perfectman(P), By.Sw(P)
-노친네 Team (Old Man's Team??): Terror(Z), Cola(Z), 김희경(P)(Female player!), 노친네(Z), 최민수(P)(might be Perry, not sure)
It's another event match with 5k Balloons (500,000 won) on the line .. the format is 5:5, probably All-kill format. Once a team has had 4 of its players killed, it can send in an "ACE player" as their fifth, which can even be a previously sent player.
My take on it? PC Family imba lol. However, if 노친네 Team can get past the deadly Hiya+Mong combo without incurring too many losses, then the rest should be easy. However, one of them is bound to appear as the ACE, so ......

http://ko.twitch.tv/kjwcj/b/332012013 here's the restream VOD of the fun bet match, not all of the games are there as kjwcj's stream stopped working. The restream starts in the middle of the match, and continues from the start for 2 games, but I think like 2 games inbetween are missing due to the crash? If the remaining matches could be re-streamed, would be sweet.
And yeah, if kjwcj could upload it to the AfreecaBW channel it would be great. I'm gonna pm him to ask and offer help with the cutting and uploading since I could do that for him and he wouldn't have to worry about it... hopefully we can work something out.

btw. guys, as I discovered this just an hour ago: http://www.youtube.com/user/AfreecaBW/videos?flow=grid&view=1 (it's kjwcj's acc) - most of the vids for Hodduk Starleague (a different BJ, afaik) have like 10 views?! There's a wiki page for this as well as the previous Sonic SL. This wouldn't get much attention back then as pro BW was still running, but now we've got to make sure we promote this thing and make it a common knowledge, not something that a few hardcore fans talk about in long forgotten chat rooms. So everyone try to promote this and help Arvick, especially if you can speak korean. I might try writing a battlereport, and make some highlight vids later on.. everyone should try their best to help out If we can get this on the calendar and have someone restream it, that would be a great start. Anyone who knows the schedule and could restream it live?

it would (and it should) be so good !
I'm pretty sure it is featured, isn't it? But if someone clueless joins, what does he get? He won't know what it is and why he should watch it unless he asks in the chat. Chances are he's watching Hiya and has no idea, so he switches to another stream. If we can get ro32 on the calendar and have someone's stream attached to it, then it's automatically +double the viewer count at least..
Anyone can add the event to the calendar, but it would be good if we know in advance that someone's restreaming it... since otherwise it doesn't make much sense to add it.
It's 16.9. Ro32 Dual Tournament Group A: Killer, Hiya, Sick[Kal], Ample for anyone interested in restreaming ^^ would be great if you could let us know in advance..
Uploading from Twitch to Youtube is a fairly straightforward process, although the processing can take some time. The best way to do it in my experience is to upload the entire broadcast over then use the built-in editing stuff that Youtube has to split the VOD up into individual games.
If someone trustworthy wants to do this with Twitch VODs from my channel or my old channel and put them on the AfreecaBW account they are more than welcome to do so, just PM me and I'll give you the login details.

Hopefully once I figure everything out I will be able to restream. If anyone knows of a reliable VPN or VPS that I could use, plz let me know.
Still, the maybe most important question remains, how can one contribute monetarily to this? If there was a way to contribute directly to this I'd gladly throw some money in (that's what a fat old office-dwelling westerner can do to help) and hopefully I'm not alone. After all, most people are, borrowing a term from the discussion above, "money whores" to some extent (we all got to eat occasionally...), so prize money is probably the key to sharpening competition and improving the level of play. If there is enough incentive for players dedicate even more to practice, and maybe even some other good old players to join, the rest may take care of itself. Time is important though, eventually people will move on (no point in beinge delusional) and then there will definetely be no way back.
Can someone closer to the action try to initiate some means to do just that? For a start I guess something informal (e.g. random Paypal account) would do, as long as we know the money are earmarked for that.
Yeah, I think we should try to get in contact with Sonic and maybe donate some money (to increase his prize pool) in exchange for all VODs of the games on youtube

I don't think my computer is strong enough to be able to record .. I set the FPS to 40 but the highest it would go up to during recording was 24 or so ... and sometimes it would dip down to as low as 5 :/ How can I keep the recording FPS rate up high?? I closed almost everything else .. do I need a stronger computer ..? :[
I was using Camtasia studio version 4.0.2 .. should I be using something else?

I think most bw streamers put their fps at 24 fps since bw is such an old game so a higher fps (40? o.o) is kind of unnecessary.

No, Brood War on Fastest runs at 24 FPS, so there's no point running it higher.
Ok guys, so updated Ro32 Dual Tournament groups .. apparently the one I posted before was actually just a player list, and not the groups lol Group A) BJ서문지훈 (Minus)zelot) Pusan Mong force[name]
Group B) Hiya Cola minus)eagle StarCue
Group C) Killer AsiaSin[ScM] Terror Perfectman
Group D) Zergman BJ프발 (Minus)mighty) Sky Shinee
Group E) Minho Sexy 김규회 Saber
Group F) 강태완 beast BJ온돌 Icarus
Group G) Sick[Kal] Ample Larva 최민수
Group H) Soma[kal] koala LYH NtO'Smile
notes: Not entirely sure who BJ서문지훈 and BJ프발, but I deduced that they are probably minus)zelot and minus)mighty. Rest of the untranslated names idk, so if you know let me know!
Also, Sonic released ANOTHER calender (jesus). This time I have taken some time to translate it:
Notes: Ro32 Dual tournament stage is split into 2 days. I'm not certain, but it seems that the first day will play the 1/2/winners/losers games, and the second day will play the Final game. Keep in mind that these are all Bo3.
10/7 I'm not sure what it's supposed to be. I guess they pick their opponents? We'll see ..
Public = offline broadcast at Sonic's studio/office
I assume Proleague Exhibitions will be a lot like the last two matches we saw .. hopefully with a lot less PCFamily winning
Mong Gun +_+ so awesome. There was a jat clan internal(?) team battle with a prize pool of 500k won. I saw a couple including parts of a mong vs pusan game where mong lost :O

Is it clear whether or not he is going to set it up to record broadcasts/VODs on twitch? The only issue I can see with this is that if he doesn't do that, tuning in for 6 hours at whatever odd ball time is probably not realistic for foreigners (the ones that are not NEETs anyway lol).
(well, 6 hours was only because of the complications in group A... but 3 hours in the middle of the night is not that classy)

Apparently you can change the aspect ratio of the stream in afreeca. I don't know how but I saw Hiya watching the SSL in 4:3 aspect ratio. Maybe right click on the stream to bring out the settings?
Bluestacks is still in beta, so I can't guarantee it working well. I did say that it seemed to have problems, especially w/ the video. Though, apparently for a few others it works fine. Hopefully, it'll be fixed within the coming year but for now we have to bear w/ what we can get .. sorry :/

VODs for Group G! Featuring our resident ex-SKT insane zerg Larva, ex-Flash-disciple Ample, the rank1 fish protoss Perry, and the SOSPA Rank 20 amateur Protoss player He)Jy!
If sonic would allow some donation to help out with the afreeca scene I think we could set up the fund to keep this league running . Don't mind paying for more high level broodwar.....

Funding is secured already lol dont worry about it. Sonic during the Group G broadcast hinted at having already secured another sponsor for his next Starleague, with a bigger budget.
IMO best way to support is to just give SonicTV a daily "Recommendation/추천", through your mobile phone, Bluestacks or whatever lol.
VODs are now up! Actually they were up since like an hour ago or so, but I wanted to wait until the video edits were done processing lol. Again, many thanks to Golondrin for making the LR, and to bgvrtb for streaming the main broadcast, and for all those who watched and chatted and posted in the LR
Group H features ex-MBC progamer Terran Koala, popular Protoss amateur LYH, the ever self-loathing Zerg Mahell, and the Zerg sitting in last place of the SOSPA rankings, Soma[Kal]! Enjoy the games, there are some very interesting strategies showcased :D
Now don't let the lack of SSL events on the TL calender fool you! On 9/27, two days from now, we'll be having the Group A/B Final match to determine who is the last of each group to make it into the Ro16! Featuring rematches between Mong vs Minus)ZeLoT and Perfectman vs beast, will players get their revenge, or will there be a continued dominance from the other? Don't miss these Bo5 matches folks
Once Sonic posts details about time and map order, I will submit it to the calender (so probably the day of like 8 hours before the games begin lol). Maybe we'll see the new map Wind and Cloud in play?? :D
Okay, having trouble registering. I fill everything out, click the blue button, and...nothing. It acts like the page is processing something for a few seconds and then just stops.
None of the forms are reset, and no errors appear, it just does nothing.
Just submitted tonight's event to the calender, but it may take some time to show up .. tonight is the Group A/B Final match! Sonic didn't specify a time, but I'm just going to assume its 9pm or 21:00KST.
For those of you who don't know, the Ro32 was played in a Dual Tournament format, split over two days. The First, Second, Winners and Losers match have all already been played before. So tonight, we'll have the final match of Groups A and B to determine who advances to the Offline Ro16, and who is knocked out for good.
Can Mong get his revenge from what he suspected was a stream-cheating Minus)ZeLoT, or will Minus)ZeLoT prove that his 2-0 over Mong was no simple fluke? Between Beast and Perfectman, which of these two ex-Oz players can prove themselves superior?

Stab in the dark since i haven´t done it my self but many korean web pages are based on IE, and stuff doesnt work sometimes with other browsers. Could maybe be the issue?

edit I misread thinking it was an app for pc user to watch afreecaTv .....
According to Bgvrt Afreeca is open to foreigners now. People in his chat were reporting that it works all you have to do is install afreeca tv player(uncheck spyware boxes)
huh o,o i guess it might be working but it's still too laggy for me to view anything... if it's working though it might mean a few more restreamers maybe?
edit: might be able to watch some vods, brb stalking random girls

On a side note Movie was streaming.
wow, really? If this works that would be awesome, because my old proxy doesn't work anymore and I am too lazy to look for a new one.
yeah I'm able to watch a restream of the mong vs minus)zelot series right now on the afreeca player and I just made an account/downloaded the player; funny how sonic's stream (sogoodtt) is on the front page of afreeca "인기방송 LIVE " or POPULAR LIVE. Though it took maybe 3 tries to load sonic's stream successfully. Was also able to see a random LoL stream and one of the 100000000 afreeca qt streams.
Also the afreeca player you set to 4:3 so don't have to see it in 16 anymore (some of the restreams have it at that).
heheh, good to hear that Afreeca's opened up. I'll be posting up a similar guide to Afreeca web player like I did w/ Afreeca mobile player .. within maybe a few days or so.
Group A/B Final match was fun! I would like to thank snipealot for providing streams during the event, Kororo for providing me a highquality stream to use for Youtube uploads, Golondrin once again for making the LR thread, and to all those who watch, chat and post in the LR thread!
Sorry this took a while (partly because of school ~_~) but its finally up. Youtube VODs!
NOTE: Mong had friends over while he was playing. The possibility of stream cheating through them could not be ruled out, so a regame of the series was called.
Mong vs Minus)ZeLoT was really good, especially game 1 was pretty intense. After all of this, I would give Minus)ZeLoT a new nickname + Show Spoiler +
Regame Zerg hahah, guy played like 17 games in the Ro32 because of regames?
Now, SSL is going on break for 6 days due to Korean Thanksgiving .. so that's the perfect opportunity to catch up on VODs! If you haven't seen some of these games yet, check them out! Lotsofgreatgames, some interestingstrategies, and a smattering of hilariousBM!
Tell your friends, spread the word that Korean BW is alive and kicking .. All of the VODs are here in this Youtube channel .. enjoy!!
Is there a list complied anywhere of the various names that all the Korean BJs use?
In other words when I go to afreeca page for live starcraft streams. I see names like jou1025, sogoodtt (who I happen to know is sonic), aisiteru99, sereniss87, etc. I have no idea if these guys are good, bad, medium, or top level players.
I've seen lists for what names they use of fish, but never noticed on for what their BJ ID or channel name is.

This is really awesome. Can someone make a guide on using the Afreeca player? I didn't check any of the checkboxes in the installer (afraid of malware), but right now I can only watch Afreeca in a browser and I don't have fullscreen mode or a sound slider (or comments for that matter), Is there a way to watch recordings? Like the VODs on Twitch? I'd really appreciate Hiya FPVODs

lol I had planned on making the a small guide to web browser Afreeca, but considering how school just started for me and how busy this week is, I'm sorry to see that it'll have to wait until the weekend ><
But here's a couple of translation notes that I'm sure you guys will find useful
-near the bottom right of the stream window, you'll notice like 6 buttons. The middle two, "추천" and "즐찾" are "recommend" and "bookmark". The first one will help boost the ranking of the broadcaster (you can give once a day per broadcaster) and the second will add that broadcast to your favorites list.
-The rightmost box, the broadcast list box, has normally two tabs (three if you searched smth but w/e about that). The one on the right, "즐겨찾기" is your favorites list. It'll only show the ones that are online atm, the offline ones you can see on your favorite list on the afreeca website.

Movie as well. Most likely because they both couldn't negotiate new contracts with T8. That or T8 could be disbanding, but most likely the former though, as Movie and Tyson sucked at SC2 (Tyson didn't even play one game last season).

also when tyson had his cam up he was saying he didnt really like sc2. he described it as just two ppl building up a huge army ball and whoever wins that fight ends up winning the game :/

You don't need an account to watch in the first place. You don't need VPN either as you can freely watch Afreeca as a foreigner. All you have to do is download Microsoft Silverlight and then Afreeca.

Apparently Afreeca has an english website and an english player now, thanks to LoL. I haven't checked it out myself, but you guys are free to verify this. There's also a new SOSPA ranking up, but I won't have time to translate that until the weekend.
http://www.livestream.com/modesty/video?clipId=pla_516de813-452f-4542-a24c-9992b4c05f77 (Cola up to 1:45:00 or so) http://www.twitch.tv/akskdsl/b/334403793 (Eagle 9:45-23:00 or so)
I would like to thank Sawamura for making the LR Thread, Modesty00 for streaming, and everyone else who watched and participated Apparently, at least several ppl have voiced some concern about the aspect ratio which I record/upload the VODs to Youtube. Sonic's stream is automatically set to 16: 9, but can be toggled to 4:3. I had simply assumed 16: 9 was the correct aspect ratio by default, but there is some argument about it.
I recorded a small test VOD where it toggles between the 16: 9 and 4:3 over a minute or so. You can view it here.
For the sake of consistency, I won't be changing the aspect ratio for the rest of the Ro32, but I'll consider it for the Ro16 and onwards. What will it be guys? 16: 9 or 4:3?
And finally, tonight is the story of the Second Chance!
In both Groups E and F, Hint and Ondol were undoubtedly the weakest of each group, and failed to net any wins each. However, by divine intervention or what not, both have been given a second chance to advance from the Ro32 that they otherwise would have not had.
It's undeniable that Sexy and KangTaeWan are the heavy favorites against their respective opponents. But, with more than a week's worth of preparation and the motivation fueled from gaining that lucky second chance, anything can happen! Tonight, 9PM KST, Groups E and F Final Match!!
VODS This took much longer than expected, but it's finally done. VODs for Groups E, F, G and H. Trying to record all of this was .. rather stressful, due to buffering, but I got it down to a minimum sorta. Too many epic games made this hard to record lol, great series means more work for me ;P hahah
Thank you to Sawamura for making the LR threads, and to Modesty, Cedstick and bgvrtb for live streaming. Thanks to all those who watch and participate in chat and LR, it really makes it enjoyable. And of course, thank you to Epoxide for keeping Liquipedia up to date. You guys are great SOSPA PROLEAGUE Now, SSL goes on break until this Friday, but don't let that get you down .. We've got SOSPA Proleague Exhibition matches this Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday!
How the hell is this gonna work? I DUNNO :D This is what I'm guessing:
Probably similar format to before, where it's 5v5 or 6v6 Allkill format with an ACE card.
Will probably include some form of stake, last time it was 5000 Balloons (500k Won) bet match.
Most likely 9PM KST
Details will probably be announced only 8-12 hours prior to the event, so keep an eye on the calender.
Now, considering how I have school now and how time consuming SSL has been, I have decided that I will not obligate myself to record these matches, nor wake up for them. This is for the sake of my own sanity and energy .. However, I will translate details when they come up, and I will submit it to the calender.
If someone presents me satisfactory recordings (minimal buffering, no overlays, complete VOD), I will take time to organize and upload them to Youtube. But I will not go out of my way to stream the games myself for recording purposes.
Should be sick SSL Ro16 Finally, the Offline Ro16 Groups were made. They areeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee:
A : Pusan, Icarus, Larva, Soma
B : Mong, Perfectman, Shinee, Saber
C : Killer, Hiya, Hint, KTW
D : Cola, Sky, Ample, Koala
The map order is Neo Jade, Neo Electric Circuit, and New Sniper Ridge. Bo3.
This may raise a few questions and confusion. What about Bo5? What about Wind and Cloud? Well .. I dunno either. Sonic is very vague on the details, and I have no idea how this is gonna work. Hell, I'm not even sure about the format .. I think its Dual tournament styled format again. We'll find out more concrete details by Friday at the very latest. POLL Finally, just to repost this Poll because we still have a ways away from the Ro16. Vote on how the Ro16 onwards will be recorded! A test example VOD here.

I recall Ryo saying that there were rumours about Movie retiring not too long ago. So the rumours were right all along.
I'm definitely gonna watch Yeong Hwa with the new open Afreeca.

Yes, you need to send in a picture ID of sort like a drivers license. Not sure about the specifics since I haven't done it myself.
Getting your account set up to be able to chat is a real pain. I've contacted afreeca multiple times providing passports, drivers licences and my alien registration card. I still can't chat.
On October 07 2012 20:21 snipealot wrote: Getting your account set up to be able to chat is a real pain. I've contacted afreeca multiple times providing passports, drivers licences and my alien registration card. I still can't chat.
You need dna test, please do not forget that you need to fill a special application to the STM Korean Government, also to prevent any terrorist attack you need to register to the special korean homeland security agency known as KHSA, there you will have to pass some IQ test, they will also put a probe under your skin. After all that just create an account on Afreeca, plug and play.
If this wasn't helpful i really don't know what could be :/ ....
On October 07 2012 13:06 Sephy90 wrote: I made my afreeca account a long time time ago but when I login and view a stream it won't let me chat.. apparently I have to activate my account of some sort?
Yes, you need to send in a picture ID of sort like a drivers license. Not sure about the specifics since I haven't done it myself.
Yeah I just found this out~ apparently it takes a few days to process? I'll let you guys know if this works.. and apparently to the other guy on this page it didn't work for him... so I hope it does for me?
A small update to the Afreeca interface, in the Broadcast Listing box. The buttons for directing you to the BJ's home page and more options to watch (pop-up, mini player, PIP) have been moved from the right to the bottom.
In your bookmarks tab, they made it so you can toggle the "delete stream from your bookmarks" option, via the button on the top right by the refresh button.
He's too busy with the Starleague, it's the first one that's offline. Let him focus on that and I believe the team league should be coming after that. In the meantime there's SSL and the event matches
As with all things, there are always bumps along the road up.
I have unfortunate news that a regular SoPL season like Sonic had envisioned for the near future, has been cancelled. The reason being is that 3 out of the 7 teams had dropped due to various reasons. It wasn't stated why, but I assume it has to do with some of the "Ace players" leaving, or soon to be leaving (Pusan, Terror, etc).
With only 4 SoPL teams, it seemed rather silly to try to pursue a regular-type season. For now, the whole idea has been put on hold. Hopefully, they'll still involve these remaining teams in some event matches/tournaments, or resurrect the league in the near future. But for now, no plans for SoPL.
I have faith in Sonic. The first SSL was only a 100k won prize, and his company started off in a tiny dark room, with him buying only however many shoes he could personally afford. Given some time, he'll surely bring back the idea of a SOSPA Teamleague in full force Fighting!!

ya srsly like i mean he has his company to run, his life to manage, SSL to broadcast and the offline preparations every weekend. and on top of that he streams event matches almost every other day with 1~2 days off XD thats one super packed schedule for one guy..

makes me so sad...
I was so looking forward to it..
I just hope that this idea will not die out completely.. and that he is gonna come back to this eventually
and I also hope that those new maps are going to be used too
also - Pusan and Terror leaving ?!?! I mean.. terror is banned from afreeca (but for life?) and PuSan.. is.. retiring ? like completely ? ;((((
oh no....
ehh.. but I have faith on Sonic, he is an amazing org
I'm so impressed by this, especially the number of well known ex-KeSPA pros. I would love to see this kind of BW play around for many years to come. I'd still rather watch good games between some of these players than sc2
the first one i get too, i just click it and wait a few seconds before trying again and then it works. the second one i think just says "sorry, there was an error".
all I can say unfortunately is to try IE instead of Chrome, maybe you won't encounter the error there. Afreeca should theoretically work best w/ IE, since korean websites are pretty much designed specifically for IE and not so friendly with the rest.
If that doesn't help, I can't really help you there .. maybe a reinstall? Or wait for the next update .. sorry
I can't watch any stream. I'm registered on the site.
Can someone help me ?
Sorry for my bad english
go to your uninstall program files and remove all afreeca/silverlight stuff then try reinstalling it all via clicking webplayer sometimes the webplayer fails to launch like that. it might be issues with updates ive had the same error before and reinstallation worked. also you can try the installed player and see if that works any better.
same question, there's a 성인 (Adult) section that says 19+, I'm guessing you have to send your id to Afreeca, similar to the procedure for chatting privileges?
Yes you have to send some information... your Id card, passport.. driving license something like that.. 18+ means that the girls are talking things like alcohol... Is not like they are showing some bra or legs or smth... Is not worth it.

Season8 of the SSL is expected to start between the 20th and 30th of dec.
I'm currently planning the schedule for ro32 of SSL Season 8. While I'm still looking for a sponsor I'm going to give you guys the good news. Although I'm continuously making calls nobody has said for certain that they will back the league. Because of this we will try to make season8 run more smoothly.
Lol very fast season 8. I though it will see it next year february or smth... I hope more players participate. And i am holping players like Terror to play or why not savior and Players like Minho/Mahell very good zergs to come back too.
I meant to do translation (along many other things) for that but im getting raped by final projects and finals right now. Will take care of everything once everything is subsided next week
I wonder if Sonic has considered approaching OGN with his league (and future team league). With the recent news that KESPA is playing hardball with Proleague and wanting to run it themselves under some IPTV, maybe OGN would consider reaching back to the BW fans and putting Sonic's Leagues on OGN. Kim Carrier can be a permanent addition to the casting team. :D I think even with ex-progamers and a cheaper investment it would still bring in more people and profit than the current SC2 leagues.
indeed is bad but stupid google traslater is not clear
Long story short, someone reported to sonic that there's private betting thing related(just like what Savior did). He can't confirm that but in order to prevent those stupid shit, he did something(according to state, sonic gave free win but dunno who he gave free win cuz i don't follow this).
Someone who's good in translating KR > EN, finish this please.

While broadcasitng the matches today, I've gotten a tip from a reliable source that some players might have been contacted and/or related to illegal betting websites, and I did not think that it was right to continue with the matches without figuring out what was actually going on, especially for those who love BroodWar and players who are innocent. That's why I gave out immediate walkovers and ended the broadcast. Please do not assume that the players who played in the last match, as well as other players in the scene, and I'll investigate more on this issue.
I've done BW broadcasting for past 6 years, and now I feel like everything's collapsing around me. Right now, I don't have the time and will investigate more into this issue when I can.
BW is the game that we all worked for.
After receiving the BJ award on Tuesday, I'll find out what's going on and post another notice.
Once again, I'm very sorry.
I want to apologize again because this issue might have gotten too large, possibly out of my hands.

Terror has been banned (from afreeca) for a long time due to an incident with a chair (basically he was imitating a rape crime that has recently happened in Korea involving a young girl). Unless there are news I don't know about, Terror is still banned from afreeca (and has been dropped from the league earlier on).
Regarding the betting story, can't he just make the matchups not public? E.g. he announced which players are playing at which day, but not who is playing against who. That would prevent people from betting on the actual matches and contacting players to offer them money for deflosses.

The players wouldn't be able to practice for a certain person then, unless he told the players who they were playing. And if he told them who they were playing, they could tell the gambling agency. It would help, but it would still be possible to have faked losses.

Well, if one game does get leaked, then you immediately have a smaller circle of suspects who might be responsible. But another problem I just realized is, that they might bet on which players loses in general (regardless of opponent) and then they could contact him and ask him to lose against whoever he plays.
edit: He could just do some things to screw up the betting sites, like announcing that it is A vs B and C vs D, and on the actual day it turns out to be A vs C and B vs D (the players themselves obviously know beforehand who they actual play against).
i am tired of this error... I assume i'm not the only one... What exacly means?

By the way you can watch 2 streams at same time or switch them imidiately with no ads. When you are watching a stream choose second one by clicking here:
That's not possible. Becouse 1 second ago i was watching it and just from nowhere it stop and that pop up. And stream did not go offline... Damn that connection...
Does anyone else get some sort of "System Error (0xbunch of numbers)" when they are watching a stream? Sometimes I don't get it and sometimes I get it A LOT and even times the the stream never loads and I automatically get the error -_-. It's so fucking obnoxious help is greatly appreciated!
Hello everyone, I just started watching Afreeca yesterday thanks to the guide post, and it was perfectly smooth for me. But today, when I tuned in, first the player showed some ads (we have to wait, as the op says) but then it came to this and never moved on. Can somebody tell me wat is going on? What should I do?
I use IE to watch Afreeca, and I did install everything the op says. + Show Spoiler +
Looks like ssl is back on track. A full translation is going to be very hard for me to do as I don't have that much time to spare(+my Korean is still barely intermediate) But the gist of it is that after a lot of support from both TL and the Korean community + a ton of help from Kim Carrier and 이승원(not sure who this is) - he has decided to not quit. There will be very strict rules and policies in place to stop match fixing. Not sure about a date yet.

Hi everybody, this is Sonic. It's been a while but I'm gonna put on my serious hat once again and post an update. There were those of you who told me it was the right decision to quit the SSL, but others told me to think it over again, worried for me, and gave me some sound advice. Some even offered to lend me help if I was afraid of doing it alone. To reiterate, Shinbal farm [his company] employees and afreeca helped me put on the finals of SSL7, but that was purely because our employees were too nice to say no and afreeca was just thankful for brining in more viewers. The burden of tying up loose ends and making it actually happen always fell on me, and me alone. Of course, that also meant I didn't have to share the sense of accomplishment I got, but I had to weather a lot of harsh feedback alone at times.
On that momentous day, a certain report made me feel like somebody just lowered a hammer on the back of my head. Although I may come off as a blabbering fool who doesn't care about anything and gets into fights with his viewers, deep inside I am very sensitive. Oftentimes after I finish my stream, I get hurt by some nasty comments left by the viewers, and then get uplifted again by somebody else's comment saying it was fun to watch. Watching me go through the comments after my casts will make me seem like a psychopath. To be honest, I was afraid. What if this had happened not during some all-star event match, but the actual SSL8? What if I really did become the last hope of reviving BW and carrying its legacy, and something like this happened...? I didn't know what to do.
At first, all I could think was I'm gonna find this asshole and prosecute him, but running a business [he is the CEO of Shinbal Farm] while pursuing litigation posed a serious burden on me, and I came to the conclusion that I wouldn't be able to manage both my business and SSL with all of its problems and baggage. After I wrote that SSL would no longer continue, I met a lot of people who told me that I had made a rash decision, that match fixing can be prevented through taking precautionary measures. Some told me that I should have spoken out if I was that stressed out. Some offered me help in the form of legal services, and some whom I never would have thought possible to work with offered to help me run the league. They also gave me some constructive criticism that was much needed. I spent about two weeks wandering around, sometimes getting yelled at by my seniors, and had a lot of time to think things through.
I am embarrassed that I am going back on my words, and am deeply sorry for the fans of BW and innocent players who were held to the public's scrutiny after the scandal, but I want to start again. I won't be able to do everything myself, but the areas I lack, if the players and fans can correct me, sometimes yell at me for being an imbecile, and support me, I want to start with SSL8 once again.
The good news I mentioned earlier is: Kim Carrier and Lee Seung Won [best commentator ever, ex-MSL caster] have agreed to help me out whenever help is needed. They will help me commentate starting from the Ro32. It will be me casting, and Kim Carrier and Lee Seung Won commentating. Even if you hate my casting, you can't deny that you want to see some BW action narrated by Kim Carrier and Lee Seung Won.
If you can please forgive me for my rash decision, I am prepared to start this up once again. I cannot apologize enough for all the fans I disappointed. Also, I want to thank those of you who offered me help, or even yelled at me for being dumb. I want to give a special thanks to Kim Carrier and Lee Seung Won, who gave me courage and advice. We will be setting strict rules regarding illegal betting, and I will do my best to make a problem-free stream. All leagues and event matches will also resume at this time. I won't disappoint you fans; I will do my very best to prepare for SSL8. I will start from scratch and look for sponsors. Also although I am still quite terrible at it, I've been trying to put on different creative content on my stream. I am trying to find ways to make my casts more entertaining, so I hope you enjoy. I'll always be putting in a 120% effort to be a better Sonic. Please cheer for me.
Everybody who left me thousands of comments, emails and messages through Teamliquid and afreeca, I'm so very sorry. I've rewatched just the finals of SSL7 dozens of times so I can gain motivation to go forward, so please cheer for me.
He used to be a caster on MBCGame before this happened. Many agreed that he was the most knowledgeable and overall 'best' caster, OGN and MBC combined, earning him the nickname of 'casting bonjwa' or 'Seung Won-jwa'
An old Fomos interview with Lee Seung Won, translated by OpticalShot.
Video of him predicting KT vs T8 proleague match
Lee Seung Won saying "Stats' best chance is to rip out his mouse plug right now, because he has absolutely no chance now, there is nothing he can do to win this game!"
I don't have anything special to say, but I feel like saying something anyway since I did comment about his SSL cancellation announcement. If I only comment on the bad news, I seem like a douche bag.
On January 07 2013 13:48 mtvacuum wrote: for the android afreeca app, after going to the "game" category, how do i view just the star 1 streams
Best way I know of is to go back to the main Live screen and at the top left, hit the Search icon (Magnifying glass). Then type in 스타. If you haven't already, you'll need to add the Korean keyboard layout to your layouts. The keys you hit are ㅅ ㅡ ㅌ ㅏ and then enter. You get some SC2 and some random pop stars but a lot of it is SCBW.
Been a while since I last used this computer, a couple months, and when trying to watch streams on Afreeca, this pops up after I click the image that should open the stream in the player window.
I assume it has something to do with it wanting to update, because when I press the blue button, AFCUpdateLauncher wants to run. Letting it do so has no effect and it keeps happening.

there are more details, but I need to get to sleep. I will say that prize total is now 11mil won, 5mil won for first, 3mil won for second, 2mil won for 3rd and 1mil won for 4th

y stream offline?!? ^__^
Honestly not sure what happened, complete computer crash. Luckily I was browsing TL in class instead of paying attention to the teacher so I saw this post and restarted the stream remotely. A mod could've done the same if one was online though.
Ok, so I'm gonna be reallllly busy for the next few weeks, and I won't really have time to do .. well, anything. So I need someone to take over .. make a SSL8 info megathread/R&S, and keep shiet updated. Whoever makes the thread, you can always contact me and others to consult w/ about various stuff, but the important thing is to keep things updated in a timely fashion and w/ nice presentation.
But anyways, really important annoucement!
So, Sonic will have these group stages to determine the seeding for the Ro32 .. kinda like a prelim? Schedule as follows:
2/15: Groups A B C 2/16: Groups D E 2/18: Groups F G, then last slot will be filled randomly from one of the second place finishers 2/19: Randomly generated 8 man bracket, top 4 will get seeded into groups.
map list: 1. Match Point 2. Fighting Spirit 3. Neo Electric Circuit
Now, as for the format, it's most likely Round Robin (like OSL Ro16 format, except squished into one day). So everyone plays each other once, and that'll determine who's ranked 1st, 2nd, etc etc. The maps will be used in the above order, and then repeat as necessary (so if one match is played on NEC, then the next will be played on Match Point). Source
Ro32 Info:
As of now, here are the Ro32 groups:
Group A: Killer (gets 4 swaps) Group B: Larva (gets 3 swaps) Group C: Sky (gets 2 swaps) Group D: Pusan (gets 1 swap)
Groups E-H will be filled by the top 4 of the seeding tournament
On the 23rd, the Ro32 Group ceremony will be held at ..... some place lol. You can see it here. Ro32 will be online, rest will be offline.
2/15: Seeding Match Groups A B C 2/16: Seeding Match Groups D E 2/18: Seeding Match Groups F G, then last slot will be filled randomly from one of the second place finishers 2/19: Seeding Match Randomly generated 8 man bracket, top 4 will get seeded into groups.

Dragoons is right, Sonic said that -_- (or Sonkwon, if he was ex-pro and not amateur) was replacing KTW. Now, idk if it was just for the SM, or if it's for the whole tournament .. I'm waiting to see an updated Ro32 roster to confirm that.
and tonight is:
Perfectman vs Lazy Sexy vs Mong Zergman vs Shinee Shuttle vs Movie
Maps are the same, format is vague. I think it's gonna be another Bo1 Round Robin w/ all of them, but I'm not 100% sure.
Also, something interesting I've noticed was that both Shinee and Force[Name] have used their real names instead of their aliases in Sonic's overlay (so 김재현 and 김범성, instead of 샤이니 and 포스네임). Perhaps a move towards a more professional feel? Though Mong still uses his alias instead of his real name lol
ZergMaN (Ex-Pro) Cola (Ex-Pro) by.hero (Ex-Pro) beast (Ex-Pro) By.Spire (Ex-SemiPro, no idea who this is) ZeLoT (Ex-SemiPro) Mae.pOse (최혜성) (Amateur) uNiOn`Feat (이상조) (Amateur)
Shuttle (Ex-Pro) Hint (Ex-SemiPro) Perry (Ex-Pro) Tyson (Ex-Pro) Lazy (Ex-Pro) Onicle (Amateur) `coo)_[bbb] (오현명) (Amateur) iops sense (신현수) (Amateur) Dream.t)-_- (박성준) (Amateur)
both Movie and Mong so far have decided to skip their swaps (it had to be w/ someone within their group, and they were already satisfied w/ it I guess lol)
Larva using his second swap, going last! Swaps Cola with ...... (rofl Shuttle got suggested, now Shuttle is begging for his life .. offers Tyson in his stead LOL ... Tyson is like meh yea just swap me) SHUTTLE!!
I wonder if Iris didn't show because he was tied down by his coaching obligations, if that was the case I wonder if he even has time to practice. I'd like him to have a fighting chance and not just bomb out His group will be tough and his recent track record isn't so great.
I'm both excited and sad for Group C, all great players and I expect exciting games, but only two will make it D: Thanks for keeping track of the groups, Arvick.
I really like how the group selection process was done, with players choosing who they went against/what group they went in. SSL is looking more and more slick as time goes on, this is so awesome.
Was it Spire doing the weird dance? Made me laugh haha. I had to go sleep before seeing the rest but I'll check out the VODs later.
If iopssense is in this SSL, and both Bakuryu and eonzerg have beaten iopssense in defiler tour, then doesn't mean that they should be competing in this? :eon:
Just watched the group selection VOD and man it was awesome. I'm glad to see SSL grow into something so cool and professional, makes me really excited for what's to come. Group C is going to be crazy.

Is there any way to directly link to VODs at a particular time on twitch? I was looking at this "highlight' functionality, but it seems that it's been discontinued...

Does anyone know where I can find replays or FPVODs of Zergs on Wind and Cloud playing vs Protoss so I can see their simcity? It's hard for me to simcity with an evo on most positions (except top left) unless the new version changed something.
So apparently Sky was banned from Sonic events because he was arguing with Sonic about money, demanding a lot of money from Sonic. Then he told Sonic he wouldn't play in SSL so Sonic banned him from all his events.
This is if I understand correctly, was informed by a Korean in snipealot3 chat during SSL8 Group A.
EDIT Trying to confirm with another amateur BJ on afreeca, might not be true.

Hopefully this only applies to current tournaments, but it is reassuring to see Sonic being firm and laying down the law, regardless of who is wrong or right in this situation.

Seems like SSL is about to explode. (in a good way)
<Kimoleon> >chinese channel 6-7k on afreeca 15k-20k live and on tl around 1-2k viewers. I got a call from a big company inside Korea! (note: this is either about broadcasting to a larger audience or about sponsorship) <Kimoleon> then saying to viewers to support SSL anyway blog cafe, saying he's feeling something small getting bigger and bigger, hwaiting <Kimoleon> oh ya last part, the bigger this gets I believe more ex-pros will play again
Sounds awesome, whatever it is. SC:BW is still sixth most played game in PC bangs, so there's enough people playing it out there and potential viewers that televised matches would work still I think.
I just hope Sonic gets a production manager to manage his overlays if that happens xD

Not sure if sonic is thinking of vods or not but those numbers are slightly inflated(they are way higher than the ones I tell him on fb after broadcasts). Maybe those are the numbers he is wishing for :p
omg YES! and just in time i was just about to tabbed in a long anime session (no events happening ) but now :D hhahahah an event match WITH sea! jackpot! edit: please everyone show up
Looks like the next event will be SRT15 already. The news post talks about PC mall still being the sponsor and something about prize pool I assume. Please translate~~
Holy crap that's a massive prizepool compared to the standard. That's like the standard 1st place prize, which was the ONLY prize, is the third place prize.

The twitch money goes to sonic, sonic spends some of it on SRTs. I think some of it was spent bringing players to SSL as well but I'm not entirely sure. The income from snipealot2 helps sonic spend less of his own money(but he still spends a lot from what I understand) running tournaments.
The whole process is rather complicated, but here it is:
Step 1: I receive money from twitch on my korean registered paypal account Step 2: I transfer an amount equal to 95% of the amount received to sonics bank account. This number is 95% due to paypal fees and currency fluctuations Step 3: I transfer the money from my Korean paypal account to my Norwegian paypal account. This is done because of really really shitty rules by paypal korea where they won't accept my alien registration status(basically only Korean citizens can transfer money from a Korean paypal account to a Korean bank account) Step 4: I transfer the money from my Norwegian paypal account to my Norwegian bank account
I've been told twitch has finally managed to change my partner registered paypal address though, so from next month I might be able to avoid getting hit by double paypal fees.

Yesterday he posted an update about it how it's moving forward. He also talks about casters, I'm assuming Kim Carrier + LSW again. Also he is getting more help with organization, learned from SSL8 etc. The thing I was most interested in was that he has searched (or companies has shown interested, google translate doesn't make it clear here) for more than 400 companies.

Here's a rough translation. The post suggests that he has sent proposals to all of those companies but hasn't specifically set up anything yet.
Presently, after the conclusion of the previous finals on June 1st, we have been meeting with potential sponsors for SonicTV. We have submitted proposals to over 400 companies. We are continuing to meet with the ones which are well-received. For the many people asking about the 9th Sonic Starleague, know that it will progress as planned.
Compared to the 8th league, the entries will be more impressive and the production values will be upgraded.
Although it is unconfirmed, we are also adding commentators and casters. We are preparing more things than you realize, so please wait for us!
The 7th SSL ended on December 1st, and the ItemBay sponsorship was set up this year in February. It took around three months. The 8th SSL ended on June 1st, so it has only been a month and a half. If we absolutely can't find a sponsor, we can always ask the Sinbalfarm president (keke).

I think the main problem with a team league would be organizing it. Sonic would have to get a little help. Also the prizes would have to be pretty high.
Preliminary we have new players like BeSt, Britney, Zeus, Jaehoon, and ChRh. But like last season we can only hope at least one of them actually shows up.

not too surprising imo. If he was thinking about joining SOSPA, he probably wants to bring his level up higher. He lost to killer 2-0 several days ago so even if he entered, his chances of winning the whole thing isn't likely.

It won't happen unless somebody other than Sonic does it. It's to much of a commitment as it takes a lot more time to organize and get the players together and I think that we all agree that Sonic should prioritize SRTs, SSLs over Teamleagues.

Btw I think the next generation of BW players will include the guys who finished their military training to be back playing the game. Kal is almost done his duties so he might return to us.
And honestly if SC2 continue to falter in Korea after the next PL. Kespa might even null the contract with Blizzard and reintroduce BW again because that will obviously give them more domestic profits.

Sospa will introduce no one, i don't want to break the bubble. But people get into those activities because the surrounding pulls them into (friends ---> pc bangs, couch ----> TV). Sospa's target audience is mostly people who miss BW. To get new people you need Kespa there is no way around it, you need teams ,sponsors, TV. 90% of new blood goes into LoL as we speak, because it is popular.
Showbiz works that way, the things that are popular are flashy, BW is not flashy anymore, in the current state, you kinda need proleagues, screaming girls, osls to have that. :[

which is a longer way of saying what I said, if people are watching sospa they will get into bw, (obviously if they are not then they are less likely to start playing bw)
I for one am wondering what is The Gorilla Terran up to, read somewhere he's in the army but that was a long time ago. You think there might be a chance of his comeback or will Big Bro Boxer bring him back to SKT to coach again?
Eight teams will participate in a month-long teamleague format, culminating w/ the Champion team earning 5mil Won. Each team is set to have 5 players, each having a small salary. Coaches and practice partners are also supposed to be part of this The format is Winners League All-kill style. 99% sure that this Starleague will use the new maps by Rose.Of.Dream. The drafting process isn't complete yet, but here are the teams so far:
It won't happen unless somebody other than Sonic does it. It's to much of a commitment as it takes a lot more time to organize and get the players together and I think that we all agree that Sonic should prioritize SRTs, SSLs over Teamleagues.
We just have to wait for SOSPA to grow bigger than just Sonic and couple of other people.. And I think that, it's going to happen, sooner or later. So the whole idea is not completely lost yet !!! Have faith !
As Chuseok is next week it's really really hard for sonic to set up any matches for the players. Chuseok is a huge holiday that usually means a lot of time with family, often travelling home to the town where ones parents grew up. As such Sonic has decided to not begin SRT17 until after Chuseok. Nothing is set in stone yet but as of right now he is thinking that Saturday the 21st of September seems like a good day for the first matches.

Are there live matches you can go and watch at any stage in the tournaments? Like finals.

Something that I wonder is if infact these guys joining SOSPA will go to the military at the times they specified. We've heard a year from most of them and as far as I know, you can't delay if it you are playing in SOSPA compared to PL/OSL/MSL so I guess it's a given that they will leave around a year from now?

Out of curiosity, how do you even enlist in the military? Do you just show up to an office and say "I'm ready to start now?" or do you have to say "I start on June 30th"?

I believe (from Nalra's show) that they send you a letter in the mail.
On September 17 2013 04:26 Phyanketto wrote: Is that telling you that you're out of time, though? What do you do when you're going at age, say, 20.
Actually you can serve military in Korea as old as 30+ years old.
yeah but the older you get the more you're supposed to have a valid reason for the delay, I assume (I'm not korean). Or rather, more stringent standards for allowing a delay. A 19 year old can probably list education pretty easily, even if they aren't enrolled somewhere.
most of the popular BJs just support themselves as a streamer. The vast majority of income isn't from tournament winnings either (except maybe killer), it's from random like 500 dollar balloon (~45 USD) showmatches or so. And viewer donations directly of course.
I use that as an example because I'm pretty sure that's what best and jangbi just did, they had 2 bo3 showmatches each for 500 balloons. Many of the "X vs Y" on stream are some type of showmatch like that. Pretty good deal to get ~30 dollars for an hour long showmatch.

All I know is that Nalra got a letter in the mail saying that he has to do his military service when they were filming Old Boy. Other than that, I dunno how you enlist or how to delay. Your reason for delaying must be a good reason I presume but not sure what is considered a good reason.

If he's still enrolled in a University or recently sustained an injury, he can delay it. If you want to enlist before they call you up, you apply at the Ministry of Defense I think.
You can be like Pusan and just never go. I swear to god he was saying how SSL7 was supposed to be his final BW league before military and .. well, 1 year later ...

Horangnabi: this guy on light flying retire thread said » "Light said he refused the invitation from SOSPA(not mean he would not stream bw of course), and he would not transform to LoL. He will focus on learning something useful before join the military service."
Horangnabi: here is a more accurate translation of..“취미로 하고 있긴 한데 공부가 우선이다. 아직 소닉 스타리그 섭외 요청 등은 받지 못했다”고 답한 뒤 “LOL 전향도 현실적으로 힘들다는 것을 알기 때문에 1년 정도는 하고 싶은 공부를 하고 나서 입대할 예정이다. 이후의 진로는 군생활을 하면서 신중하게 고민하겠다” » he says something like » I am curreently playing BW for fun/as a hobby but sutdying comes first. I have YET to receive an invite for SSL » and then the part about LoL is realistically i know a conversion to LoL is hard (for me) so after studying for a year I plan to enroll in th army and hten he says at the end » my path after army i will have to deeply think about » i felt that guy was sorta anti SOSPA is in his translation lol
As light said this I will make an effort to contact him. Seems like SSL9 will have almost 10 new players. With Jangbi, Great, Kwanro S2 + 4 unannounced players, you can expect great things. (iffy translation but gets the point across)
ssl 9 isn't announced yet, just obviously people want it to happen. And it will, but don't think it has been announced a confirmed sponsor is in (besides anything sinbal farm puts in, i.e. sonic)

Hopefully SSL9 can ride the wave of SCBW Asia Masters Open's popularity in terms of prizepool. Perhaps that gives Sonic a chip to bargain with when seeking sponsors.
Mind was suppose to be the next best terran along flash but somehow he couldn't go for the extra length. Welcome back mind more terran equals more fun .
The other 3 being Light, Flying and ZerO probably.
Y'know that in the future there will probably be prelim/qualifier round for SSL. And I hope SSL gets big enough to be hosted on OGN. That's ALL I want. Is to have BW be on OGN again.

Light vs Zerg and reach to final only to be JangBanged will make my day!
I feel that we are going to see many KT rookies retire soon and with Star's reduction, we don't have to worry about fresh blood.
I have a good feeling that Sonic is delaying SSL to maximize the amount of retirees as much as possible to have a shot in the league. And I also think that the viewership of SSL will drastically improve when it happens so Sonic will have even a bigger bargaining chip with sponsors for the next one.

There is a reason I said that not because I am a (KT Fan ) but the fact that he pwned bisu in MSL shows that he has the skill to become a great player in the same light as Flash. Also Fantasy is oov puppet too bad he couldn't win the last two osl . Honestly, I even have a hard time coming up with candidates for terran retirees, apart from F&F (OMG if one of them would play BW again...). Some of the up and comers maybe? How are Last, Turn, Reality doing in SC2, anyone know? I guess Bogus is out of the question lol.
Is it just me or was BW pretty thin on awesome terrans towards the end. Yes the statistics were decent for terran winrates but half of those were generally Flash & Fanta. Behind those guys you had some hard slumpers like Sea, inconsistent ones like Baby/Hiya, one matchup wonders like Light, Skyhigh. I guess Leta was the most consistent terran excluding the two S-classers.

Light isn't a one matchup wonder. His TvT is good too. And during practice his TvP is really excellent. It's just that at one point in his career he had a series of bad TvP losses on TV and he got really nervous every time he had to play a TvP in a live match.

Epic lineup nonetheless.
Reality and Last were doing good for a while but STX disbanded so not sure where Last is now. Dunno how reality is doing these days either. Turn is doing fine, nothing outstanding or anything lol. Needs improvement

Approximately 8 teams. Atm. the first prize is 8000000KRW (approx. 7500USD) Second place 2000000 (approx. 1850USD)
I want to hear your opinion.
The sponsor is shinbalfarm 스베누 (I think this is a shoebrand sonic has made and is trying to make popular)
Ro4 and the grand finals will be played offline in the new shinbalfarm studio (all expenses paid for the attending players during)
Although details have not been finalized I've been thinking that I will try to include entries(players?) from the old proleague days and do this in between SRT17 and SSL9.
In my personal opinion the team names should be temporary, and if for example "Ex. CJ" gets sponsored by Shinbalfarm they will be named "Team Shinbalfarm".
In the case of the 8th team it will be structure in a way where they can continously recruit among the best amateur gosus on fish and each respective team can pick up the rising stars from this team(?? unclear)
I've written this post in order to get your opinions so please tell me what you think.

Someone's more on the ball than me- I just came here from facebook to ask for a translation!! This looks awesome... I'm trying not to be excited too early but it's hard!
Just so you guys don't get too excited - sonic has tried this pretty often and it's very very hard to do a teamleague over a long period of time due to conflicting schedules. IF it does happen it will most probably be reduced to a short 8-team cup spanning a week or two. The post made by sonic is basically him thinking out loud after having had a chat with maybe a few players, that's it.
Edit: Note that he has only announced himself(his company) as the sponsor, nothing else. This is not set in stone.

perhaps with the addition of more players back into sospa the teams will have deep enough squads to overcome scheduling difficulties. If each team has 8 players then they're more likely to be able to find 4 to play on any given day.
Who are the sponsor? None... Do we have any idea about this? Whats the point of teams without a Name !! xD I want new labels to add for my fav team yay
got a bit nostalgic reading the second half of that list. thinking about bdagger's interview with feat. wondering where Perfectman is.. I just wish SSL9 was here already + Show Spoiler +

It will be all time ranking, not just from the last few. It'll be calculated rather than just a power rank of current skill, so it may take a while for Sea to pass Killer and HiyA.
On October 22 2013 06:19 Epoxide wrote: It's still dumb and should be laughed at, it doesn't make sense
It's an all time point ranking, if you understand it then it makes perfect sense and isn't dumb :/ although I suspect they're just using stock standard ELO, which doesn't take into account skill drift.
On October 22 2013 06:24 Epoxide wrote: HiyA has less titles than Sea. He wasn't good for a longer period. He was never dominant in the scene. He had worse win percentage.
아직 공개 못했던 엔트리 공개하겠습니다 웅진 전 프로 김명운 저그와 웅진 전 프로 임진묵 테란 입니다 요요핫 저 놀고만 있는거 아닙니다ㅜㅜ섭외^^!!
I'll announce the entry I couldn't make public yet. It's Woongjin ex-pros ZerO and PianO. I'm not just fooling aroundㅜㅜConfirmed^^!!
And just to confirm this over and over again.. 9차스타리그는 프로리그 끝나고 진행합니다 12월 중 겨울방학 시즌입니다 SSL9 will begin right after SPL is over, it'll be the season of the winter break in December.
I don't like how he said 'squeeze', that normally means a really tight schedule :/
He literally says "I will try to 잡다 (catch/arrest/find/arrange) schedule". So yeah, it'll probably be something tight and shorter. Here I'll agree with Epoxide who says it's a good start considering people have been asking for SSL9 a lot lately and a long-spanning ProLeague would be difficult to manage anyway.
Ah, so it's finally official, Zero has come to Afreeca. One thing I've learned in the past a couple months is that Afreeca chatrooms > dcinside as far as the latest (and most accurate) rumours are concerned.

Also, does Light intend on competing in any Sonic tournaments?
In a recent interview he said no, he doesn't want the pressure. At the moment, he's not even accepting sponsored matches. However, things might change as time passes, who knows.
I think the original article is from DES, but I read it on StarCraft Times, a Japanese newsite.
Popular BJ (Broadcast Jockey) Sonic is opening a new studio in attempt to gather more audience/viewers.
Sonic, who operates Sonic TV, is preparing a new studio in Seoul City's Gangseo District Gayang-dong, located on the 7th floor of the Miracle Building equipped with spectator seats.Up until the recent SSL9, Sonic TV occupied a corner of an office building with booths, but with this new official studio, they hope that the players can compete in a comfortable environment.
The opening day is set for the 10th, but plans on opening the studio to the public is still undecided. Sonic TV is planning on hosting an invitational tournament with fan favorites and using that opportunity to open the studio to the general public.
Sonic said, "The studio isn't really any bigger than before, but I tried my best to create an environment where the players and fans can enjoy the matches. I plan on hosting a (venue with) fun series for the opening match(/ceremony) soon so please look forward to it."
In other news, Sonic TV is currently hosting a tournament with teams consisting of retired Broodwar players and is gaining quite a bit of popularity.

There's something on Sonic's facebook about running tournaments using his new studio, my Korean's bad and google translate doesn't clarify much but as far as I can tell he's announcing a new tournament, winner takes all, with casting by 이승원 (this guy: )

In celebration of opening of new SonicTV studio, I plan to have Supermatches. It'll take place over 4 weeks and will be offline. For Supermatch, just select the match you want to see the most.
Example) Bisu vs Killer Bo5 -- $940 price ($940 immediately given to the winner at the day of victory)
Not a tournament format, the winner just takes the price at the spot. The format will be 1:1 Bo5 will fixed price of $940. Currently we are trying to recruit Kim Carrier and Lee Seung Won for the casting, and plans to start offline at SonicTV studio at third week of November.
This event is sponsored by board rental company 'Boardtrader'(?) who loves Starcraft. Every employee there loves Starcraft which is quite amazing ^^ So we're preparing for 4 Supermatches over course of the month, with support of 1500 for one month (?) I'll give you specific details when I announce you that company's homepage later on ^^
Its good seeing former BW fans, now entering into their career mode with financial stability to inject fund into the scene. "What goes around comes around." And the passion is rendering into cash flow.
Wow... this is riduculous... ridiculously amazing.
To see some people go to such lengths for a game... their passion never ceases to amaze. We get a better studio now with plans to use it more frequently? Mind is blown really.

Sonic's update regarding SSL sponsorship. It's a bit too technical for me and I don't think many people would be interested in the details anyway, so this is just a very lazy summary that might not be too acurate, but anyway: Sonic is dealing with some companies about the sponsorship and still has some meetings to attend (notably some 3 important ones in December). If there's no contract he'll just sponsor SSL9 with Sinbalfarm/SBENU (his business).
It should be offline (not sure if all/how many rounds) at the new SonicTV studio probably in late December as previously announced. There are 50 inch screens installed for player's FPVs. Casts should be on tuesday, wednesday, thursday and friday.
Some sponsorship for the currently ongoing SPL is also in progress but no specific details yet since it's not a done deal. Guess that means there'll be some real prize money distributed (atm there's only a reward for 5/10/15 consecutively won clan-wars neither of which seems too likely to happen). Alternatively some team might find a new sponsor. We'll see I guess. That's really it, otherwise it's Sonic asking for a lot of support and love etc. and thanking for it.
