Sea just said that in his stream chat, thought you guys would like to know. http://www.twitch.tv/liquidsea is his stream, If I'm still awake i will update when it starts. This looks like it will be awesome. Its not quite the same as him streaming while still playing bw full time, it will still be really awesome.
I will update with when it goes live if I am still awake, if not i hope someone will. I will come back and add vods for this once they are up. I have to go to bed, would someone please post this once sea switched to broodwar? I'll add the vods in when they go up.
Snipealot restream of his first day on afreeca. http://www.twitch.tv/snipealot2/b/348973675 His web cam starts showing up around a hour and a half in, and the game play starts at about 2:15 into the vod.
If someone has something they want me too add to the op that is related to sea's streaming of brood war or would make it look better, feel free to pm me
If i miss sea vods from Afreeca, pm me them on TL, and I'll add them.

Why is it sad?
This isn't really any different than a player taking a break from sc2 practice by playing a couple games of LoL, Dota, chess, or any other game

I don't think he meant that he'll play teamgames when he said he's gonna play with Pusan. A bunch of ex-pros are playing a sort of clan war, where each team gets like 5-6 players and then they play each other in all-kill format. They usually split themselves as recently retired ex-pros vs top players on Fish that have been playing for a while. It's a lot of fun.

I personally think it's fine that he plays some BW. It's a side thing that he does every once in a while for the change. You can't play SC2 all the time -- if you do, you might get very tired of the game and not have as much "fun" with it.
People play golf, tennis, etc. aside from their normal sport too. I'm just glad he plays BW and not LoL. :-)

Just caught the tail end of the last game, was really entertaining. I hope I catch him earlier next time. As great as 1v1's are I'd be keen to see more team action, not necessarily anything too serious but I think some more teamplay from pros (BW or SC2) could help keep things fresh.

Do you guys want to keep this a a thread for vods and discussion of sea's brood war steams? It seems that he wants to stream a couple of hours once per week, when he can fit it in. So should we keep this thread to discuss those events, or should they go somewhere else or in a new thread each time?

I do definitely know what I was saying when I typed those words. It is because of my unconfirmed fear of progaming teams in general that have histories of bringing out punishment for playing other games than their profession to which Bumblebee totally respond with grace and poise that TL don't carry out that mentality, unlike many of the overreacted and oversensitive people that have quoted me. But to those who shared the same POV as me, well I salute to you for keeping it cool and logical.

BW will always be there - Long live BW!
We didn't dump BW. The circumstances made it impossible to stay together. It's like when your girlfriend's family moves to another country, and she's pretty much forced to follow (whether out of filial piety, practicality, or she just really wants to). I mean sure, you could try to make things work long-distance, but its impracticable, and might be worse for you in the long run.
Assuming in all this, of course, that you joining her is not an option. Of course, for this we have SOSPA and the Amateur Broodwar scene

It's like your lover is a black person (and you are white) during the 50's in the USA. You will get shunned if you stay together. You might lose a job. But as long as you don't need the money to survive, if you are really in love, you WILL stay together despite those inconveniences.
Also, I'd rather just be able to talk to someone who I truly love, than live in the same house and have sex with someone who I don't really love. I'll still play BW " long distance ", and I'd do the same for a human being.

Rather vague are those texts and the sense behind them - she's been away for so long, but they are still coming.
Lol, I remember being in his chat so many times begging for BW. He kept saying he would play but never did >.< He finally made a promise to play every Tues. Even though I got a lot of hate from the SC2 people telling me to move on and stuff, I was still dying to see him play BW. I know that he has switched and now needs to practice SC2 before going to the army or w/e but I'm glad to see him still accomodate to his BW fans. XD
At the moment he is on snipealot2, and it is lets say interesting. Go check it out, I'll have the snipealot vod up asap. (as in tomorrow, i have to go sleep)
Wow, already back on the BW wagon. If I may make a huge leap here, and I mean HUGE, I think that perhaps had professional BW not been destroyed in Korea, he would not be a retired gamer today. Call me crazy.

Honestly, if you love BW enough to play it professionally 14 hours a day in a Brood War sweatshop, you're probably going to prefer it to any game that comes around, even if SC2 was as good.
I imagine there are some KeSPA pros who hate SC2 (note how By.Sun became By.Rain when he switched. Subtle). Some who hated it but had it grow on them (Jaedong claims to be in this camp. Since he's on the same team as Greg "SC2 is garbage and everyone involved in its creation should be fed to pigs" Fields, I'll believe him). Some like it because it's a game they can beat Flash in, and some just actually like it like it.
I can see a normal person preferring SC2 to BW, but I'd be shocked if there was even a single KeSPA pro who did. Of course, there was a time I'd be shocked to hear about the SSL being fixed, so...who knows. I think Sea, at least, has made his position clear, and BW is a little bit better off for it.
I think a lot of KeSPA people are treading water for HotS, which is almost universally considered an improvement over WoL (though still not nearly BW-level), to decide if they're going to quit or go to LoL or whatever.

If someone who has been good at both games prefers SC2, it will be an enigma. I won't be able to figure out why.

If you're used to terrorizing people with vultures, hellions must be quite a step down.
I remember Sea was saying at an interview that he found SC2 funnier than BW, basically he said he prefered SC2. We know what he think actually. I agree with Ribbon, I don't think it's possible for a former BW pro to prefer SC2. Especially those who made results.

Yeah and ofc you can`t take korean players for serious, if they say something alike" at first i disliked sc2 but now i feel its a good game". It is expectated from this players to communicate in a positive way about the game, not to speak their minds.
Doing the opposite would
1) hurt the professionality of the players
2) Shed a bad light on their teams and sponsors
3) bring hate from sc2 fanboys, since the sc2 community is like an angry hive of wasps anyway.

Back when PvZ was heavily Zerg favoured (55 - 65% statistically for Zerg on like, every map) some pro Protoss users, when asked about it in interviews, pretended like nothing was wrong. Lol. Obviously something was wrong - the maps. Many of them didn't allow for forge expanding, or even for good 1 gate expanding.
There have been some maps that favour Protoss in PvZ (like Othello: ~55% PvZ), but not as many as favour Zerg.

As someone who follows the SC2 scene, let me assure you that SC2 pros bitch about the game incessantly. Idra's the most famous (though, oddly enough, he seems to like HotS), but they all do it. Foreigners a bit more than Koreans, but DRG had a rant on why Force Field was bullshit, and everyone hated Vortex so badly that even Blizzard's official explanation for why it got nerfed into oblivion in HotS was ripped directly from Idra. Every SC2 vs BW thread has someone cite that big post from LaLuSh about how SC2 bases have too many mineral patches and it fucks up the game etc (I have several disagreements with that post, but that's neither here nor there).
Nony made a video of why BW carriers were better than SC2 carriers, which got popular enough that it led to Blizzard letting Carriers change targets at leash range. Small change compared to the difference, but a change.
SC2 fans are a bit weird. They get defensive if the game is attacked on a forum, but agree strongly with those same arguments from an SC2 pro, especially one with a BW background.
Now, yes, the KeSPA players might be different because KeSPA has major issues, but I imagine we'll be seeing that discipline break before too long. Bisu, at least, has to loathe SC2, if for no other reason than a game he was godly at got replaced with a game he's...*checks TLPD* 3-7 in, and not even getting fielded in SKT's last game. Two of those wins were against Sea!
But, like I said. I think a lot of them are holding their tongues until HotS comes out.
I really wish the BW pros were more vocal, though. Might get some things changed if there was an outcry.
Im so sad he retired, he was on my PL fantasy team and everything. His play was becoming so fantastic so quickly, sad to see his passion fade. Hopefully he finds fun/love in Brood War on afreeca though!
Sea: I really can't get into sc2, i'm trying really hard but its frustrating the more i play. There is no reason for me to play, having fun is priority, i'm going to retire. Nazgul: Whats wrong? You were so excited at first. Sea: Starcraft 2 is not fun. Nazgul: Hmm, if you're that determined I can't stop you, just dont say sc2 sucks, we're a sc2 team heading the sc2 scene after all. Sea: Sure, no problem.

Not that I'm agreeing with him, but there's a difference between making a video on how carriers can be improved and saying that the game is bad.

from what I can remember, the commentators asked like "aw, the terrorist, you must be enjoying hellions in sc2 right? What do you think of them, they are close to the pulture....."
and he responded with that. I'm 70% sure the question was like that, one of the many hybrid league questions that tried to compare bw to sc2 for the viewers in the post match interviews (immediately post match, not formal fomos/daily esports interviews). But the question I believe was about enjoyment, fwiw.
not important anyways since it literally was a 5 second response in a random after-match interview.
I gotta say, snipealot is the coolest. I've been seeing Fantasy, Nada, Bisu, Miya, and Sea play great games all day. It's the best. I hope this means that fans are interested enough maybe to put together some of their own leagues.

how did you get that?
Using a fucking keyboard right after he pulled it right out of his ass.
Sea either didn't like SC2 or was just tired of progaming in general (which is a very LIKELY scenario, kids been playing forever). Either way, he'd have to been free to say what he wants. He thought sc2 wasn't balanced, which is true to a certain extent and that probably contributed to his decision.

Mild creativity.
It's a slightly editorialized paraphrase of what Sea said his very first Afreeca streaming session, a couple days ago.

too bad nobody can provide a screen with what he said about his reasoning really. Though i suggest we keep the sc2 vs bw talk down, or eventually the banhammer will come.
From Sea's first day of brodcasting in Afreeca, he mentioned how he left the team. He wanted to stream in Afreeca because viewers were different in Afreeca than viewers in twitch, where he wanted to have fun with viewers rather than just play hard and win games. I guess language barrier was the biggest wall. So he asked Nazgul if he can stream in both server, Afreeca and twitch, but he wasn't able to since Twitch is partnered with TL. He earned about $3000, $500 from TL, and $2500 from streaming sessions. He also did really well in tournament, where he earned $200 from IPL.
But why did he left when he can earn more money in SC2 than in BW? He mentioned how BW was more fun to play than SC2. Like in gameplay, where SC2 is made for everyone that it is easier for everyone to play than BW.
Anyway, this is getting long. So basically, he wanted to have fun playing games with viewers. I hope this answers some questions about how Sea left.I am Korean by the way, which means my first language is Korean, so don't assume I made some stuff up because that's how I heard from stream.

yeah thanks for the update~ ahh... will we ever see a game as great as BW? Personal preference... just replayed BW and realized how hard it is but it was really really fun...
EDIT: realized what i posted could be taken the wrong way by some people and tried getting a more moderate take on it
I dont blame him, this only shows he's mature enough to know what to do at this point in life. As long as, going back to BW is his own choice then good for him. No creature on earth should be at a place where its not happy ^^

well, you can't play him for seeking his own happiness.
I understand wholeheartedly. Played bw on and off for about 10 years, several thousand games, never let me go. Played sc2 for a few months, got bored, never looked back. Sad, but makes me cherish the incredible fortune I had growing up with the miracle game that is bw- the game of my life.

Week 2: SKT1 plays Woongjin Stars. Bisu is not on the roster. SKT1 plays T8. Bisu is not on the roster for that, either.
Week 3: SKT1 plays CJ Entus. Bisu is not on the roster.SKT1 plays Samsung Khan. I was not impressed by Bisu, even though he won, but that's just me)
Week 4: SKT1 plays KT Rolster. Bisu loses to the now chin-less Stats. SKT1 plays EG-Liquid. That game hasn't happened yet, but Bisu's not on the roster.
In other words, in the first round of SC2 proleague, Bisu has exactly one (1) win, two losses, and four non-appearances.
Rain is SKT1's ace right now, and Fantasy is 4-2. Bisu's star is fading fast. Especially now that Thorzain won a game, which apparently was a big deal in Korea (first foreigner Proleague win since Legionnaire), and no one's talking about Bisu anymore.
Which is probably a mixed feel for his fans. He may go back to BW, yeah, but because he failed in SC2 :/

in the past, bisu has said that he has no hobbies outside of playing bw. i really feel like he has the potential to be good at sc2, but when u don't like something u are never gonna be the best at it.
but im a bisu fan so take that with a grain of salt and as much as i want bisu to do well in sc2, id rather see bisu play bw tbh.

He may go back to BW, yeah, but because he failed in SC2 :/
just a speculation but i feel like bisu failing sc2 is because he just isn't interested in it.
in the past, bisu has said that he has no hobbies outside of playing bw. i really feel like he has the potential to be good at sc2, but when u don't like something u are never gonna be the best at it.
but im a bisu fan so take that with a grain of salt and as much as i want bisu to do well in sc2, id rather see bisu play bw tbh.
I think his understanding of the game is just really poor. Jaedong had this issue when he began too since he tried to do really confused ling/roach backstabs... which don't work well against Protoss because of forcefield. Flash has these issues too, his mechanics are good but decision making is only averageish. Bisu's underperformance so far seems to be more of the same. SCII just works differently and Protoss is much less straight forward because of warpin/blink all-ins. I mean, we went from proxy 2 gates to building units in your opponent's base and having to balance chrono boost.
I think there were also some issues with the pathing/map design. I remember seeing a lot of Jaedong's early games where units would split up between high and low ground and Jaedong didn't notice since BW maps did not have random chunks of hills in the middle of the map.
The people who have weathered the transition best are the ones who in the change over didn't have their styles of play disrupted. For example, Fantasy transitioned from dropping vultures into dropping bio so he's pretty good with bio now (lol) while Flash likes his SC2 Mech but Mech requires perfect decision making which he doesn't have yet.

i think bisu will return if he continues to underperform and his stardom fades. but since he is such a popular player i don't think that will be happening any time soon.
I don't think that any of this is true.
That's the vibe I got from watching proleague, what's your feeling?

I think around 3000 were watching a few days ago (if you have an iOS/Android device you can get the Afreeca app and see for yourself!)
You can also watch it from the website now from PC.
Is there an English way to watch from the PC? I only see LoL and SC2 on the English Afreeca website, and those are just for particular events. There are no player streams. Anyone know?

There isn't an English way to watch per se, although that's supposed to be coming sometime in early 2013. But I'm probably going to write a guide on how to watch Afreeca on the Korean website, as most of the guides are outdated and it's fairly easy.

Didn't Grr say that he never really needed to practice? Without meaning disrespect to him, I don't see him in the same league as Jangbi/Nal_rA/Stork/Bisu. The game was just so different.
I generally agree with everything except for chojja. he was good but not amazing. I would put him in the same category as calm, effort, luxury as those who won 1 starleague and had a decent number of top 3-4 finishes but didn't have sustained dominance.
I would probably put yellow there instead of chojja just because it's still impressive that he got 2nd in so many tournaments despite never winning the big one.

So who else would be 5? Gorush? Same category as Chojja. Maybe Effort because he is overlooked due to TBLS

Calm/Luxury never won a starleague.
Yes they have. calm won 2009 Avalon MSL and Luxury won 2009 Lost Saga MSL.

MSLs defined the careers of Oov, Savior, Bisu... I think it's kind of silly to insist that MSLs weren't as hard to win as OSLs. (And to me they are both starleagues even if the term is trademarked.) The MSL even had a better format, with a more sensible group stage and a Bo5 Ro8.
