At least Wolf+Rapid are talking about the games :\ LOL we were joking around at the beginning of a match. give us a listen for more than that and then give a real opinion.
Don't lie to us Flash, we all know the real reason you and BisuDagger cast together is so you can discuss the latest hotness
(this is sarcasm btw in case someone doesn't get it!)

I was a huge fan of the original british version of The Office. Surprisingly layered with ingenious dialogue. When a friend heard I was a fan, he said "omg you gotta check out this clip of the funniest moment ever in the American version, it's so funny!!!".
So I watch the clip, and it's literally just a fat guy spilling chili on the carpet. That was supposed to be one of the funniest moments in the entire show. Yeah, not really a fan of The Office, either version. But there's plenty of good comedies on US television... Modern Family, Archer, Rick and Morty, Veep, Silicon Valley, Orange is the New Black, American Dad, Another Period, Better Call Saul (dark comedy), etc. etc.
But again, most of them aren't on regular network television.

At least Wolf+Rapid are talking about the games :\ The vast majority of the time, BD and FFTW are talking about the games, too. And at a consistently deeper level than Rapid + Wolf are, from what I've seen... not that R+W can't improve.
BD & FFTW do tend to be a bit punchy during the first couple of minutes of a game, though. I've mentioned that to them before. It's fine, within limits. Casters are allowed to have a little bit of fun.

It's hard to be legitimately funny though. If you're just making a joke for the sake of making a joke, consider not doing that.
Day9 touched upon this in one of his dailies. He said that the two kinds of people he most enjoys spending time with are either people who are actually funny, or people who don't even try to be. It's the people in the middle thinking they're funny but aren't who are just cringy and annoying.

His cast of CombatEX vs Chill was pretty funny

That feels really vague, and easily agreed with but doesn't mean anything. Funny is generally relative, jokes with one crowd don't work somewhere else. Joking while commentating is very difficult to do too. If the co-commentator doesn't move into the joke and lets it sit, then it feels very awkward. A commentator who jokes and the co-commentator joins in, now feels like a cohesive experience. A lot of joking while commentating is knowing what will make your co-commentator laugh, because it feels like a genuine moment and the crowd shares it.
There are people who try too hard to be funny while commentating because they misunderstand what "color" commentating is, but I only see that at the very beginning levels of commentating.

I have no problem with them being funny or not always focusing on the games, etc. The only thing I really have a problem with is when they get something about the game horrendously wrong. And I am astonished to hear how often that still happens now in 2017. This game is soon going to be 20 years old and professional commentators (I assume they are paid) still spread falsehoods about how the game works.
I can understand if they dont know (and tell us!) and I can understand if they are not sure. BW is complicated. But when they try to feed the audience "alternative BW facts" and they do it in a way that suggests its absolutely true and proven, that really makes me mad.
Everything else is acceptable but please get your facts right or at least admit that you dont know for sure.
Edit: Here is a suggestion: When Sayle was casting he was always looking at his chat where the viewers were giving him live feedback, pointing out important moments in the game he missed or things he got wrong. Some experienced players also gave live analysis of the games and tried to predict future plays. I know this is impossible for large scale tournaments with many thousands of viewers and the chat probably being spammed all the time but perhaps you can get like a private chatroom for a select few experienced "quality assurance" viewers. I can imagine that might help the casters quite a bit when they are not sure about something.

I hope this is the correct thread to ask this:
I only learned about BW quiet late (2010 through sc2 being at mlg) so I only know it as the game you play on private servers. Since playing on the official servers will at least be a viable option with 1.18 I was wondering what sort of ranking those used to have. Is it like iccup/fish? Is it completely unranked lik the ptr?

its hard to say since we dont know much about the matchmaking yet. we know that Fish server is getting integrated, so if the official b.net matchmaking is terrible or there's still lag or w/e then people will probably default to Fish. Iccup admins are showing no interest in 1.18 ( I believe), so iccup probably wont be a thing as far as remastered is concerned
that said, if the official matchmaking plans on being any good, they'll have to have some sort of a ranking/elo system otherwise the games will be terrible and mismatched.
I personally think the official matchmaking will probably be prioritized and most used unless its just really terrible

I wasn't sure where to ask this question, but I'll ask it here. I'm trying to download Brood War from iCCup's website and it downloads it as a 7z file, but I'm unsure how to actually install it from there since my computer doesn't recognize the extension.

Download 7zip, you'll be able to right click and extract

I just hopped onto the PTR and omg being a nub apparently means obs and your opponent all flame you. Played three games until I couldn't deal with the harassment.
