I have set up a PC dedicated to running a 24/7 stream of Classic Starcraft:Broodwar VoD's from the Korean and International Professional scenes over the period of 2000-2012.
The stream will be displaying only professional games (and some progamer shows) mainly from Korea. A majority of VoD's are in Korean, only some of the WCG games and all of the GOMTV Classic games have english casts. The stream will play the current playlist (listed below) and pick each game at random.
I got the idea for this stream after watching the teamliquid livestream. I wanted a quick and easy way that people could sit down and watch a random game. After sitting on the idea for a few months i decided to make it a reality with a twitch stream. I have a great passion for Starcraft Broodwar and know others do too, so my goal is to make as much content as possible available for the twitch stream.
My end goal is to collect and add as many VoD's as possible, while also slowly organizing them into each set, group and round, before editing each game to remove black borders and edit out any extra content like previous game replays that elongate VoD's.
Last VoD Update was on: Sunday, Aug 09 7:49pm GMT (GMT+00:00)
Due to the cost of maintaining the stream i would appreciate any help you can offer.
Below is a list of every single VOD that i've added to the stream so far. I will continue to update this list as i add new content. New content will be tagged with a symbol
Unfortunantly not every game has been added to the tlpd yet, and as a result some games have been lost in the void. It is my main goal to collect and add as many games as possible to the stream, so i have started compiling a list of VoD's that i cannot find any downloads too.
Below is a list of all the games i cannot find downloads too. If anybody has a download to any of the games in this list, please post in this thread or send me a Private Message.

This is something i really want to do, I remember seeing 1.6TB of proleague VoDs somewhere arround the site. Might have to go out and buy a new HDD for VoDs
http://www.livestream.com/teamliquid You can check this stream out as well, wondering if your medryBW stream can go in sequence or is it always random?
First off - thanks a ton for doing this =) It will be a favorite stream for sure.
For the sake of continuity - Would it be possible to stream random tournaments instead of random vods? That way the same players will be playing and it would be easier to remember styles and form of players

I'm going to have to look into the copyright stuff. But I'm hoping a small stream wont draw any negative attention. I don't intend on monetizing this
I would really like to add all the VoDs (Proleague, MSL, Shows) to the stream, but i've been confronted with a few challenges 1)None of the MSL VoDs have been named, all they have is the year. 2)about 50% of them are extremely blurry, some to such a degree that even the minimap is impossible to make out. 3)Some of the MSL content includes 40-60 min interviews with some player like Bisu.
Do people want this kind of stuff added? One of the major downsides is tuning in to watch some games, and only seeing a show or interview for an hour or two.
Another thing that I've seen mentioned is playing the games in order. The stream would select a random group/finals and play the entire set, in order (game 1-x). The problem with this is that some of the groups consist of 6+ games that can go for an hour each, locking the stream into one set of games for 1/4 the day

Let me know what you think
If you're having problem with the MSL VODs and the players that are playing and the league, I can help out. I might be Korean and know how to read the language... >.> Maybe if the players' names and MSL season is in the video, I can translate it for you.
Small Update Changed the stream to 4:3 to make viewing more pleasant on 4:3 monitors, and lowered the bitrate to hopefully account for the lag some people were having.

Hmm, can you perhaps change the title from 'Medry' to Bw Vods or something? I suppose you need to make a new account for that, I'm not really familiar with this kind of stuff. I just think it would attract more viewers.
Oh and thanks a lot for the stream man. Great stuff.
Don't you just need to set your stream as playing BW instead of Others? Btw. the name is fine, so long as the stream is around for a while people will know it just as well as snipealot
LOL I didn't know there was such a thing as 12 and 1 spawns on the same map. Game is from 2000 between HOTForever and Grrrr..., man it feels like a flashback or something.
some sweet FvJ action on stream now! (also it never occurred to me till now but having a map named "Katrina" that is quite obviously a hurricane is an interesting choice...)
This is great but now Teamliquid's own version of this will get even less views http://www.livestream.com/teamliquid Poor stream needs to be moved to twitch.

I would recommend renaming the stream and putting them in the Starcraft: Brood War section under Retro BW 24/7 or something like that. ;/
Other Notable Streams are meant for non-player streams and that's exactly what this stream is. If you have only BW filter on for streams, then it's very hard to miss.

I don't think there are many people out there who have only BW on their filter. In either case, it's not really a big deal. I almost completely forgot about the TeamLiquid stream, which does a similar thing. I'd still consider giving streams like the old TL one and something like this a different heading altogether. Retro television cable channels meets Retro VODs.

Changing the name would help as better 'advertisement' is the point I'm bringing up here. Yeah, everyone reading this thread knows the name... but what about people who don't read this thread.
If you got a list full of streams, atleast if it says BW VODS or something like that you'll have an idea of what it is. If it's just another name, newcomers will probably not be tempted to click it. Even if it eventually goes under the Brood war-streams section, my point should still stand : Having a clear name/description will increase the chance of more viewers.
MSL VoD's have finished downloading. I am going to start to rename them now (thankfully they are in order, so i can name them from the brackets). I should have them added today, and then i'll make a reddit thread or something for the stream to make sure everybody knows about it.

2pac already made it clear and I agree with him. While this is great, lets star players of now, not the past. There are a few players that deserve to be up there first.

Thanks Medry for the great stream, and I'm happy to see it featured as a notable stream

I agree with Phase, changing it to something like "Medry: BW MSL OSL Vods" would definitely help bring in more viewers. Please consider changing it if it's possible
Let there be an unofficial award for those encountering legendary moments of the BW history. Viewed so far: - July's Sauron zerg - Nada's yamato fleet on Arkanoid - 815's proxy hatch sunken rush
I have added 9 MSL's, From the 2011 Survivor Tournament up to the 2009 NATE survivor. The survivors do not have the players or map listed because there is several hundred games per survivor and no brackets online to refer too. If this is a big problem i can name them, but it wont be for awhile.
I'll Keep adding the previous MSL's as i get the time to name them

In order to do this, I would need to change my name, and that would be limited to a few characters (no spaces, ect). As far as i know TL will not give you a custom stream title, no matter the circumstances.
Could this be added to the list of streams in the sidebar? I would love to watch it in my downtime, but fear I will forget about it if I can't stumble across it on the front page.
Maybe I just haven't found it. Will favorite if not featured.

it's in the Other Notable Streams section, named Medry, you're welcome
I posted this in the stream chat as well, but I think it would be cool if on some days you could stream all the matches from one msl/osl in order, that way we can rewatch a player's path to victory.
I think another good idea would be to show an entire series at once (so if it's a Ro8, Ro4, or finals, you show all 3-5 games from that series before randomizing again). Reliving Flash vs Bisu in the Bacchus OSL in 2008 would be amazing if you showed all 4 games at once, but just seeing the first game of the series and then jumping to 2001 feels like you're purposely teasing me =P
On November 01 2013 17:29 sheaRZerg wrote: Oh I had 'other' turned off. I assumed it would be under brood war. Thanks.
It should still show up if you have 'Other' turned off.
If i was to make another account, with a more relevant name for the content being streamed, would i be able to get the stream switched over to it? A custom stream title would also work
The stream title is taken automatically as the name of the account to which the stream is associated to. So making a new TL account with the relevant name and switching the stream to that account could work.
Don't want to sound like a shameless leecher but i have a suggenstion: have you ever considered to, from time to time, make it so that the stream shows either A) one whole tournament or B) one player's run through a whole tournament? Hit me now cause i started watching You Know Who is UZOO MSL on TLPD ;P Cheers! Of course if it's too much of a bother just ignore me XD
Also would be cool if some of the old English bw casters like Klaz/Molettap/Diggity could somehow cast these. Everytime I watch the stream it takes me back to the golden days of BW with a 12 team Proleague and two fully functioning individual leagues.
I watch these streams for hours a day. Fantastic job.
I didn't quite get if you were renaming the MSLs because many of the files are just called numbers and it's impossible to know who is playing unless you recognise faces.

I've created a new account named Starcraft_BW_VoDs Hopefully the stream can be swapped over to this username so people can better find the stream. Let me know if there is anything i need to do (cant send in a stream app because the threads under a different name and the accounts fresh)
I've added 253 more vods. 138 games are FPVoD's from the 2010 Show me the MSL series, and the rest are the Avalon MSL and Ladies MSL. I also finished naming all of the MSL Survivor vods, so every vod is now labeled with players and map.
I've looked into streaming full series, but so far it seems very challenging/time consuming. I'll keep looking for ways to do this.

I know moletrap is active with LoL, but is Klazart, Cholera, Diggity, PsyReaver, and SC2GG folks even still active?
Last I heard from them, Cholera suddenly disappeared, Klazart came back for a bit after saying he's retiring, Diggity slowly left as the BW pro scene dwindled down, and PsyReaver plays in the D-ranks league but went inactive again.
New stream name on TL is online as (Starcraft_BW_VoDs) So people will better know that is being streamed. I'm hoping a mod can swap out the feature on this account, and link this stream thread to it.
Proleague vods are nearly finished downloading, but there is over 800 in one season, so it's going to take awhile to name the games.
Proleague has finally finished downloading! I can finally start naming the games! Just downloading this one proleague took over a week.
Note: This is only the 2010-11 shinhan proleague, and only the games covered by MBC Game. If anybody has a download link to the games from OGN please let me know.
I like the stream, and good thing you renamed it. I hope it increases viewer count, if ever so slightly, over time. Sometimes I'm having some lag however. I don't know if it's just me, the vods or something else. If someone is having similar issues, please let me know. Because if it isn't, maybe I have to do something about it. Audio doesn't lag, just the video. It doesn't happen that often, but it can be frustrating at times.

I have no issues watching it. I leave it on for hours at a time and seldom see any issues unless my connection is being unstable. With the horrible reputation Twitch has with Europe I wouldn't be shocked if it is something on their end affecting you.

Hm ok, thanks for the info. Thing is, I have a feeling there are some streams where I don't have the issue. It's not totally unwatchable, just annoying when it happens at those crucial moments, you know : (

I see some people talking about lag in the chat sometimes. I know sometimes the VoD's lag. I try and mark the VoDs that have severe lag and replace them. Other VoDs have lag at the start and end of the games (usually when they are showing the studio and stuff) but the game is fine. Part of the problem could be that i am streaming from western USA.
Quality options on the stream would be nice but that requires a feature on twitch and i dont think that will ever happen! I am going to look at turning down the bitrate on the stream a bit (Its running at 1500 right now, i think 1000 would work just as well)
hmm, tell me what you think about this : I just saw a VoD that was really blurry, (like, really bad quality) and I thought it would be nice that when people encounter one of these low quality vods they could report it in some thread (this one), so you can take them out if needed, and perhaps replace them if someone finds a higher quality vod.
A lot of vods are kind of on the edge; it's mediocre quality but it's still watchable. But some are just bad publicity - Imagine someone new to the stream tuning in for the first time and getting one of those bad ones. That's not exactly going to make them want to come back. And if the quality is that bad, it's just not enjoyable to watch, even for people who keep coming back.
I think the one I saw was Tossgirl vs berry, 2005, something something.

Alot of the MSL VoDs before 2009 have pretty bad quality. Its getting harder and harder for me to notice the bad quality because i spend so much time watching it. What i've been doing is focusing on naming the better quality VoDs, like proleague first and leaving the bad quality ones for later. I would like to add them all eventually though because stuff like pringles MSL is amazing, and cant be forgotten.
Edit: It would be cool to get others opinions on this, Should i go on to add the really low quality MSL VoDs, or would it be better to leave them out? Better quality VoDs do not exist, except for a few where the games were recorded directly off a TV screen.

I'd be most happy to see the better quality vods first, maybe you can add those other vods, when we are done with those already provided and know a lot of them already.
Just wondering, why not have the vods play in a systemic order? I mean, I don't mind them all over the place lol but wouldn't it be a better idea to have it finish one OSL or MSL at a time. I can see how this can be disappointing for those who have watched a certain OSL/MSL a lot of times and it comes on so they'll have to wait until the vods for that are 'done' but just a thought Good stream though

come to watch some classic games and get away from the monotony of fighting spirit... only to see a game on fighting spirit lol. Still, excited to see some proleague vods added!!
The next round of proleague VoDs finished downloading a few days ago (2009-2010 shinhan) but i've been pretty busy with the snipealot re-streaming. Thankfully my next semester doesn't start until late January, so i will for sure get them done, and maybe even another round after that.

Thank you! Indeed it's there. ps: are corrections of the filenames needed? The game "2007 GomTV MSL S2 Ro32 Group F TT vs Midas @ Monty Hall" is actually Goodfriend vs XellOs @ Monty Hall, same tournament.
I'd like to thank you for this wonderful stream. Please keep it random. Some people want to have the whole tournament run at once then switch to another tournament and I think that's a terrible idea. I like how I have no idea what the next match is. I just watched a match played in the year 2000 and I laughed at how slowly they expanded. Modern day broodwar is so much more refined.
Thanks for bumping this. This is perfect background noise... who am I kidding. I'm calling it background noise to hide the fact that I'm actually going to spend 4+ hours a day watching this!

I wrote about it somewhere before, so I don't mean it to contradict myself, but yes, I would like to see like a whole tournament from start to finish. But never as a permanent feature, rather like an event series, even once a month would be cool. The buzz word "storylines" comes to mind and as much as I have mixed feelings for it, it fits well here, would be an enjoyable watch. Great bump, thanks Medry
One thing I've noticed is that for a brief period of time, there was a lot of PL 2011 and 2012. Every time I would start watching, there's a game from that period going on lol (not that I mind, thought it was interesting). As always, thanks for this :D

I really enjoy watching this stream, but I was wondering, is it possible to make it so that it selects random but instead of just one game, it would select a series, like bo3 or bo5 if the game selected is one of those ?
^ I have been wondering this for a while and thinking the same thing. Is it possible that you can collect the BoX series / full group VODs instead of jumping completely random? I feel like even if you do full Ro8 of one MSL/OSL it would feel much more epic than grabbing discontinuous games as it would put their epicness into perspective.
Bisudagger: fuck yes Brood War Bisudagger: this is a sick matchup Bisudagger: Light with a great TvZ in 2010 Bisudagger: Zero sharing ace with Free Bisudagger: Soulkey still not a big name at this point for stars Bisudagger: STX cup was winners league style Bisudagger: this is played for the ace match in a bo7 Bisudagger: judgement day is a 4 player map with no ramps Bisudagger: the front expo is a mineral only Bisudagger: Zero went for 12 hatch Bisudagger: he took the mineral only because it sets himself up better defensively but he will take the 3rd when he's ready to drone more on gas. Bisudagger: Light is going for the a fast factory which indicates vulture play Bisudagger: the wide natural opening allows for vulture harrasment to be an issue Medrysc: Bisudagger: double stargate is signature for both leta and Light Bisudagger: medrysc best sc! Medrysc: bisudagger commentary best commentary Bisudagger: xD Bisudagger: light was actually looking for the overlord at the bottom right momentarily Bisudagger: he has now shown his hand, zero has the den out so he should be okay for now Bisudagger: hydras with range are actually great for wraith defense, but range isn't quite done yet Bisudagger: spore colony + spire, this would be great for light if he actually took his second base sooner Bisudagger: now zero is on a strong 3 bases to the terran one Bisudagger: I think light is in a really bad position here. Bisudagger: a great option at this point would be to tech straight to science vessels Bisudagger: he took the gas base so he can afford to build them while defending with tanks Bisudagger: it would be awesome if zero could bait the wraiths out on the hydras but his in base harrasments is doing well Bisudagger: that 3rd command center is great for soaking up the glaive shots Bisudagger: Zero looks like he doesn't have a game plan from here. No established fourth yet and lurker aspect would have been a great follow up Bisudagger: Armory+Valks was the decisions for light and really disagree with it. the valks will be of lesser value as the game stretches on. Vessels are the way to go Bisudagger: woah, it's really late in the game for light to 4 rax Bisudagger: he's going to be chasing upgrades while zero attempts to doulbe expand at the 9 and 7 Bisudagger: those gas drone snipes have to be super annoying Bisudagger: light actually wasting a lot of cloaking energy on his wraiths at the bottom ight can no longer cloak Bisudagger: left* Bisudagger: this is looking like any TvZ I've played as Terran vs 3 AI opponents Bisudagger: oh shit Bisudagger: two control groups of lurkers Bisudagger: only 3 ccs of possible scans Bisudagger: hold lurkers here will be huge if zero goes for it Bisudagger: instead he attempts a backstab Bisudagger: lights vZ game sense really payed off their Bisudagger: Light will be mining out his main very shortly and the 12 oclock base makes sense Bisudagger: terran always expands towards the opponent Bisudagger: great move by zero to invade light! Bisudagger: this is a base trade game! Bisudagger: Light can't come back home in time and cracklings rape buildings so fast Bisudagger: greater spire could be huge if he still has mutas on the map Bisudagger: light not focusing down the important buildings first Bisudagger: guardians are out! I have no idea how to do this at the moment, but i've been researching ways to set it up. Sadly even if i find a way to do this it would still take alot of work to set up because some vods like proleague are not named in their set orders, or may be missing games. Still if i was able to set up that custom playlist it would enable things like OSL weekends of just pure back to back sets from a specific OSL.
I Will manually play entire sets if i have them, if you see me in chat just let me know what series you'd like me to play and i'll try and make it happen
Watching these old VODs makes me feel so sad that I didn't start watching StarCraft until SCII. Missing guys like Flash, Bisu, etc. in their primes live is a bummer.
The HDD i use for holding all the vods that i am working on renaming, cutting or editing has died with over a thousand 09 proleague vods that were in process of being renamed.
It also contains several thousand other vods but thankfully most of them were transferred over to the stream HDD.
This is the third drive related to the stream that has died!!!

the gomtv classic vods that are running on the stream, where are they from? from youtube/mickeytoss? coz i heard that those vods are partly lost and i'd like to see a season or two as a whole again. So i was wondering if medry has em?
Do you have links to download the vods? I went on a broodwar spree about 2 years ago and through this site found a torrent for a bunch of broodwar vods, the problem was that I got about 700gb into it and it turned out the torrent was corrupt and couldn't download the rest. Granted I learned my lesson and would not be downloading 900gb of vods ever again, but is there still a way to download specific memorable ones? Say I re-watch one on your stream and want to re-watch it later?

Power is going to be out at my place tomorrow morning till 4pm PST, so the stream will also be down. Sorry for the inconvenience guys, hopefully i am home when it comes back on to start the stream back up right away
Stream will be going down for a few hours (at most) today because I am cleaning the streaming computer case out. Over the last year of running it has accumulated a massive amount of dust and hair which is effecting it's ability to stay cool.
More vods to be added asap, I have the month of January off and just got another 800 09 proleague vods to name and add.

Oh nice, keep it up!
Feature request: segregate days into years.
so Mondays = 2001 and before vods tuesdays = 2001-03 wednesdays = 03-05 etc.
I don't like watching old vods, only the vods from 2009 and ahead for whatever reason :/
wow, this is fantastic! Great to have playing in the background. Definitely going to be sharing this with my friends! Thank you so much for providing this awesome stream.
I had 800 games ready to be added Xmas day but the drive they are stored on has gone haywire. I can no longer transfer files off of it, as they transfer at <10kb/s and cause the computer to crash/bluescreen. Going to keep attempting to transfer them off the drive because the games came from a massive torrent that took me ages to download.
Also going to spend some more time trying to get permission from TL to add the TSL games, i know alot of people recently told me how much they love English games.

Yeah this is something I'd love to do along with breaking the games up into their respective sets but it requires skills i do not yet possess. I've been looking for a way to do highly customized playlists on VLC but haven't discovered anything yet.

I just discovered this stream yesterday and want to say thanks!
But if I can also add my two cents, it would be pretty cool to get a whole set at a time but I also like the mix of eras the random picker generates.
I thought you guys might be interested in experiencing my pain, as i attempt to transfer 800 games off a dead drive for the stream. Set up a spare PC dedicated to transferring files around drives, and ran crystal disk to look more into the error on the drive I'm working with, turns out the drive in the spare PC is also damaged.
As you can see, the file transfer rate off of the damage drive (E is absurdly slow, and this is with me attempting to transfer it one folder at a time. I've tried transferring it to several different drives with no change. Am now up to six dead hard drives, although at least two of them have over 45,000 hours (5 years run time) on them. No matter what, the transfer starts out fine and then tanks to a few KB.
If anyone has any ideas, or advice for this let me know. Re-downloading the vod's is not really an option because they came from a supersized torrent that took months to download, and is now in pieces across all these dead drives.
Hey, just want to say thank you for putting this stream up. I have had this on literally all day while I'm working, and it brings back such good memories for an old BW gamer like myself. It's amazing how I can still, after years of not playing or watching games, instantly recognize the players and the maps!!
Is there any way to throw you some $$ via paypal or something like that -- to help support the stream?
On the stream right now there are no games playing. It's just alt-tabbed on the dashboard. I hope you see this and fix it soon this is like my favorite stream <3
Medry, feel free to PM me if you need any support in terms of hardware or anything like that, I'm more than willing to throw some cash to keep this running
Are you still having issues with those drives and or the stream PC. Not sure exactly what I can do but I worked in IT in the past, I currently work as a software engineer. But I would like to try and help, so PM me and I can see what I can do.
I am also willing to help out providing new drives seeing how you mentioned that the one in the spare pc has bad sectors and or is questionable.
Hey, I've been a long time lurker of the Twitch channel. I really appreciate the work you put in to have this stream running 24/7. I had a suggestion for the stream and hope you might consider it. As a frequent watcher of the stream I have often found my self craving the next game in the series. Therefore my suggestion is:
rather than choosing a random GAME from the list, perhaps if its possible to choose from a random SERIES.
One way this idea can be implemented is perhaps have a program with all the 'Game Number 1's' from every series in the collection. Have the program choose a random 'Game Number 1' and then play every game in the series in the order they were played.
I remember I was once watching a game number 4 of a best of 5 where it was Jaedong Vs Flash and the score was 2-2 after the game 4. I really really wanted to see what happened in game 5 but due to how the playlist works, that was not possible.
If you are interested in the idea and need any help in implementing it, I will do my best to help you out. I can write code and perhaps write a C++ program to help you handle this.
I really want to make the random series instead of games a reality, and would be willing to work with you or anyone else who has any ideas. It would take me awhile to sort the games into folders for each set, but it would be doable. OSL is already in that format, so it's just msl and proleague that need to be organized.
just wanted to add my support here. i have had this as one of my main background streams since you started it. it's absolutely wonderful, seeing as how i was never able to experience these live. i hope this runs forever into eternity.
Rebuilt stream thread OP to display all current content being shown on the stream Added a donation button for those who wish to support the stream.
Also added 239 WCG Korea/International to the stream playlist!
Just wanted to thank everybody who has been watching over these past 1.5 years, for supporting me and giving me ideas on how to improve the stream. I intend to keep improving the stream in hopes of immortalizing it.
24/7 games is still the feel good channel: every time nothing is up and the Korean players are just goofing out, or if I'm just sad, I can watch a couple of games from the golden age. Jolly good show.
Are the games at complete random? Or did you chose the order? I was wondering if it would be possible to have complete series instead of just 1 game, then another random one from maybe 10 years later. Like if we watch the first game of an OSL final. we watch the entire series, before it then goes to a random new series or game Love it anyways

Completely random. The idea has been proposed but I believe medry is really busy atm to do it this way. Maybe in the near future

I think i might make it my goal to find the subbed versions because for somebody who does not speak Korean the bnet attacks can be long (1 hour) and boring.
My electricity is out again today for some unknown reason. It was supposed to be on 30 minutes ago. Hopefully it will be back up today Sorry about that guys!
I have tuned in to this multiple times and really enjoyed the games. Thanks for making this stream possible. It's fun to rewatch the old seasons and games that I watched as a teenager. So fun.

Sometimes the stream will decide to stop streaming, even when OBS says it is streaming. The stream computer has also had some issues recently, randomly shutting off. I have a feeling it's another hard drive that's going to die. (This makes number 4 i think)

Same kind of issue. VLC gets to a game that has a bugged title and causes it to disappear from then on. I usually try and check the stream daily in case either happen.
I've got college finals this week and then i'm off for several weeks, during which i plan to do something with the stream.
Found out about your Twitch channel through making a post on reddit, asking about the fact that the TL torrent tracker has 0 seeds across most of the torrents, and if these video files were available:
Do you plan on making your pack of games you play on Twitch available for others via torrent? Love what you are doing but would also love having an offline copy I can keep backed up. I grew up watching and loving these games and I don't want them to be unavailable to me, or anyone else.
Sorry guys, another power outage last night. It once again damage the stupid battery backup system verizon has installed, causing my internet to randomly drop. Should be fixxed for now but it could go out more tomorrow when the tech comes to repair it.

I linked the sources of my downloads some place in the thread. Most came off of huge torrents, but the harder to find ones would have been downloaded off youtube or any korean website i found hosting them.
Big fan of the stream, but that sexy info tag at the top is gone! I liked being able to see who was playing who and when. I'm guessing it has to do with the recent downtime. Is there any chance it could return?

Stream was down for a few hours today, changed internet service providers. Shouldn't have any impact on the stream, but if anyone notices anything let me know.
I'm not sure how feasible this would be, but with the many people getting into Brood War with the recent ASL casts, do you think you could look into compilating English vods like from Nukethestars + other English casters ? I would think there would be people that would watch Brood War if there was something in a language they could understand.

If this is something people are interested in, i would consider it. My main concern is that the tournaments are not official tournaments like every other game currently on stream.

There are a few reasons i avoided doing this when i initially set up the stream. The main reason was i don't own the videos those casters created, and would need to get permission to use them. It would also have been more work for me to organize the games but that's not so much of an issue now Back then there was also alot of drama and controversy about combatEX, who is co-casting a huge ammount of the english games. I don't personally have an issue with him, but lots of people do.
Once again if its something people want i'd consider it.
I appreciate those who are still watching. I can't believe it's almost been 3 years since i started the stream. I suceeded in my original goal to create a place for people to discover and rediscover and just appreciate SC:BW, which is in my opinion one of the best RTS games made. I have gotten tons of mails and messages from people who tell me they either saw the stream and started playing again, or saw the stream and started playing the game for the first time! We can't let BW be forgotten.
Wouldn't some of the older casts be considered along the lines of abandonware and fall under fair use? The reason I don't keep the channel open anymore is because of the saturation of pre-2008 vods (especially all the games around 2002) and TSL.
BW was at its best in the Shinhan/Batoo/Pocari Sweat days, and the skill gap between games from that era and outside that era is just massive, it's like watching two different games. There's plenty of vods available even just on nevake.
Thank you so much for this stream. I've been reliving my college days for the past few weeks and I intend to be always watching this whenever I get the chance.
Hey Medry are you still looking for the GOMTV Classics? I know Season 1 & 2 plus the Star Invitational are currently available on YouTube. The Invitational is 100% complete and S1 & S2 are mostly there.
Of course the VoD quality is rubbish (240p) and so far I've been unable to find any source video files outside of YT, so you would need to pull them off yourself if you so desire.
Also, since I can't locate the source videos I can't verify any copyright claims. However the VoDs are quite old and GOM hasn't messed with them yet so who knows.
Medry can you play the games chronologically instead of randomly? I would be more interest to watch a whole tournament and series instead of some random vods here and there. Others may feel the same about that too. Also most people aren't interest in pre-2006 vods I guess because they are just not state of the art in terms of gameplay. Maybe outsource these vods to after midnight

Very interesting proposition, but i guess it will need a lot of work in order to arrange the vods.
Actually, it's awesome that there are some very old games included. I see this stream as celebrating BW's history in a way. About randomness, I'd like to also watch games in order, but it doesn't bother me as much.

Being that this is a thread about old school games, I have been searching and trying to think what the name of the tournament from 2010ish or earlier was called, it was created on teamliquid I think it was all the top foreign players (mondragon, white-ra, idra type era) playing each other tournament style, I wanted to try and find the replays but I can't for the life of me remember what it was called! Anyone remember?

TSL? Not sure, you probably already found out.
On another note tho, is the stream down? been "offline" for me the last 3 days.
Sorry guys the stream computer has been having some issues over the past few weeks. I've been very busy and the stream itself is a bit of a financial drain just with electricity costs, but i'm dedicated to keeping it up and keeping this important piece of starcraft history easily accessible. For those who are interested here is a breakdown for my estimated cost of running the stream up to this point
The computer power supply is 550 watts so let's assume it draws 300W constantly. This is an hourly rate. Electricity cost is .32 dollars per kilowatt The computer then uses 0.3KW*24Hours = 7.2 Kilowatts per day. Then 7.2KW*365Days = 2628KW per year. This is about 2628*0.32 dollars = $841 per year, The stream has been online a little over 3 years now so it totals around $2523 Wow! This is not counting the costs of replacing components like the couple HDD's it's gone through.
I've managed to load the windows OS again onto a spare drive in order to get the stream back online today, hopefully i can find a more permanent fix in the days to come. I'm not certain what the issue is but the computer has been powering itself down at random times with no obvious cause, plus the odd blue screen
Any donations towards the stream would be greatly appreciated. Thank you to everyone who has donated and supported the stream. To this date i have received about $170 in donations which was put towards the last HDD that was replaced
Thank you to everyone who has sent me nice private messages, or sent me VOD's that the stream seems to be missing. I do want to compile all that material and get it added to the stream but it's of course another time investment.
Thanks for the information. And yeah, I really need to donate once I'm in a financial viable position again.

As of today Medry's stream has been issued a copyright violation and taken down. I suspect either OGN or maybe Blizzard are responsible. If possible Medry, could you respond as to the exact reason why?
So far i'm not actually sure what the ban was for. It's just listed under "Other Terms of Service Violation" and it's only a 24 hour ban. I'm going to continue streaming today when the ban is lifted. Lets hope this has nothing to do with Broodwar remastered, the stream viewers had already doubled since the announcement.
Here is the ban email. If it was for a copyright violation i would have expected it to be listed as such, so i have some hope it was just an ambitious twitch mod who doesn't know we've been online for over 3 years!

By any chance will you offer a dropbox or some sort of folder to download these files? I watch your stream all the time but due to circumstance I cant view it all the time and would love to watch the VODS when I dont have interenet.
Congratz on your star. Only for that reason I saw that one can donate for the service you provide. My pleasure to do so. Thank you so much for keeping this stream running.
Unfortunately the streaming PC stopped working today. The PC is completely unresponsive when plugged in. Swapped out the power supply with no change. More testing tomorrow. Hopefully the motherboard is not dead, or else the downtime may be longer.
Thanks everyone for your support, i'm glad so many people continue to enjoy these old games as much as i do. BW forever!
We can't thank you enough, Medry, this stream is a gem. Hope the problem gets resolved one way or the other. If the mobo's dead I think we could easily gather a hunder or two for the replacement.
A little update on what happened to the streaming PC. Continued testing using the original power supply when it suddenly failed spectacularly, in a stinky cloud of smoke. I'm assuming it had some issues and fried the motherboard the night before. The main stream drive was plugged into the power supply but thankfully did not get damaged. My spare motherboard was also not working at all, so i swapped in an ancient motherboard and threw windows XP on it, but unfortunantly it doesn't seem to be able to read the drive as it's a GPT disk. I could convert the drive to an MBR so XP can read it but it risks losing the data on the drive, which is not backed up due to its size (over 1tb). Going to try some more stuff, possibly file sharing from a windows 7 machine to XP

you are watching your favorite tv channel playing old movies over and over in a random way, will you have the same feeling in a YouTube playlist ?
for a while this was what I would put on before I went to bed at night. and I would wake up and finish watching whatever game would be on before finally getting out of bed.
thank you for running the stream and I look forward to its return I hope!
Medry, PM me your address and what mobo you need and I can get one to you. Also specify the processor your using, ram type, form factor and how many I/O ports are needed for the drives. As much detail as possible. Will amazon it if necessary!.
Sorry guys it's been over a month and i have not posted any updates. As the year is ending i have put together enough resources to get the new parts the streaming computer required. I purchased a new motherboard (A68HM Grenade) and processor (AMD A-10 @ 3.4) for the streaming computer, but still have it running off a 10+ year old 300W power supply that is bound to die sooner or later, and some spare 2gb DDR3 Sticks.
I appreciate all the donation offers. I did not feel comfortable accepting donations to fix the stream until i was absolutely certain i could get the PC running again. I would be grateful for any donations or assistance anybody can offer. The donation link in the main post of this thread. Total, the mobo and processor cost about $120.
I uploaded some (bad) images here of the streaming PC for anybody interested. Just an old clear PC case and an ancient 4:3 monitor that's taken alot of beating. No cable management either.
I just put the stream back online before typing this post out. It was strange setting it up again because the last time i had set up OBS/VLC was 2013, on version 0.5xx of OBS (it's at like 20.x.x now). It seems they removed the ability to capture only a portion of your desktop, so i had to window capture and crop the image, and then manually size VLC to 1024x768. Thankfully it does allow me to move the VLC window on the desktop without ruining the stream, so it's an improvement. I had a hard time remembering the correct settings i used so if anybody experiences any issues let me know. Currently the stream is at a bitrate of 1500 and 30 FPS as i believe broodwar is capped at 29 I was unable to get the title any smaller also, which felt strange because i'm using the same version of VLC.
Medry, you da man! Re bitrate, it maybe looks a tiny bit worse than before the break, within 10% difference. I think the image takes slightly longer time to solidify after the screen jumps between locations. Looks good enough anyway. Thanks again man.
I tune in several times a day when I can and make it a point to look up a player, or a strat, or a map, something BW related that I'm inspired by from what I watch.
Thanks for the effort and work that goes into this.
Thanks for hosting the stream. I occasionally tune in since I love BW. Recently, Blizzard added in-game drops. Is it possible to enable on this stream? I'm not sure if it's allowable since this isn't original content but that might be worth looking into. Secondly, can you move the event details to the left or right of the main game window since there are black bars? It currently is sitting on top of the gameplay and blocks the top bar. https://i.gyazo.com/67fb6a489fc2c1b53469da357bde014c.jpg

Thank you for the support! This is why i made this stream back in 2013, to get people inspired and excited about SC:BW and its amazing history!

No problem! I have enabled in-game drops for the stream, though i know very little about them. I could probably make the event title display vertically down the side of the video, but i don't think it would be very readable and long titles would get cut off or make a mess. Unfortunantly each VOD is different, Some have black bars, some don't, which results in some VOD's getting cut off. The size of the text is also always the same, so when a very low resolution VOD like the one you were watching plays, the size of the title is much larger.
These issues are all a result of the limitations of VLC media player.
I've also been looking at partnering the stream ever since twitch made it all automatic. I've had the ability to for awhile but i'm concerned about it due to the content being streamed.
Thanks for those who have let me know about incorrect names!
Today i cleaned up the area below the stream and added some graphics. I also decided to finish the affiliate forms and become an affiliate on twitch. Moobot has also been added, with !uptime and !thread commands. More to come in the future!
I remember a few years ago i had to go in to Labcorp for several rounds of bloodwork at 8AM and had to wait for a few hours. Out of pure chance i pulled up the twtich brood war section hoping to catch some Koreans or something. I stumbled upon this channel and I will always associate bloodwork with great broodwar VOD's. Thanks alot for these precious gems. to watch at any ungodly hour. I prefer it to scrolling through YT or some forum post to find vods. Theres something about the radio effect of not knowing what will come up next that i enjoy. Take it easy man!
Just did a small update to the stream. Had to restart it as the PC was at 42 days uptime, 996 hours live on OBS. I set the title size to be static, rather than relative to the video resolution. This will fix having too large of titles on most VOD's, however on really low resolution VOD's the title will still be far too large.
I've also been working on cutting useless material off the VOD's, though none of the cut ones have been added to the stream yet. I've started with some of the worst offenders first, the proleagues. Most of these VOD's have been cut in length by over half, removing excess chatter before the game and the playback and discussion of the game afterwards. (Though it is unfortunate to lose the glorious kpop preformances)
Example of new title size, from the same game above.

I've finished with cutting the Proleague VOD's. Nearly every single VOD had some content removed from it. It does make me a bit sad to cut out all the post game chatter, and shots of the players in the back rooms chatting, but i believe it is necessary, as the downtime between games on the stream can be massive.
Along with post game chatter, pre-game chatter has also been removed, along with any sort of replay analysis. Often the casters would go over the previous game in the set before the current game was played, which was confusing with no context. I will try my hardest to preserve post-game victory ceremonies by players, and anything else as special. I am trying to leave 1-2 minutes of post game content on each VOD. For pre-game content, i try and start the cut at the player introductions, which leaves 1-3 minutes before the game usually starts.
For Proleague, the starting file size was 185gb and the final file size is now 148gb.
Up next will either be MSL or OSL. Most of the early 2000's OSL videos are over 50% chatter.
I also want to give a huge thanks to DSK, who helped me out with a fancy new power supply to run the stream PC. The old power supply was the weakest part of the streaming setup, so it was a huge help. Thanks a ton!
Thank you everyone for all the kind words. If you ever need to contact me on my stream, you can usually do an @medrybw in the chat, and my IRC should start blinking.

May the Brood war gods watch over you and your stream .
Just tuned in and found a small mistake. Map name in the video file is wrong. Instead of "Python" it is "Monty Hall". Nothing big at all, but maybe worth knowing for Medy
On a side note, the stream is over 1 million views now, so that's cool. Thanks Medry for hosting it for so long! I think it's finally time to get some 2013-2016 VODs on there though!
It's me again reporting something. The video titles do not appear anymore. Just a miner QOL thing but it used to be there and now it's gone, so i assume it's a small thing to fix
And of course, thanks for this awesome 24/7 stream!
Hey guys sorry for the lack of updates. I do see people asking for me to add the newer tournament content. I have not been ignoring you guys, just hesitant due to copyright concerns. Thank you to whichever mod updated the OP, i appreciate it.
I also want to give a big thanks to Lucien C for the $100 donation yesterday. I really appreciate it. Things have been a bit rough lately and it helped to brighten my day. Also helps to keep the stream PC online and healthy. I think this might be the longest the stream setup has gone without something breaking now.
I also want to thank everyone for the kind comments and supportive messages both in this thread and on twitch. I'm so fortunate that the brood war community is so friendly and supportive, we all love this game, and i hope we can continue to watch it forever. Love you guys, and hope you all have a wonderful day/week.
If it's just a temporary issue, I would like to submit the 2007 GOMTV MSL S4 tournament. I have a complete tournament VOD collection for it from Ro32 to Finals and can give a copy. I do not have the corresponding Survivor Tournament nor Offline Preliminaries to it though.
Did more checking and it looks like I have a copy of of the 2006 GOMTV MSL S1 tournament as well from Ro16 to Finals. The file structure and naming scheme needs some cleaning up though. Like above, I do not have the corresponding Survivor Tournament nor Offline Preliminaries to this as well.
Sorry for the downtime guys, stream got temp banned for "Re-broadcasting or co-streaming another channel without the broadcaster's permission." The stream was temp banned long ago once before, for "Other TOS violations". Hopefully it was just an error and nothing further happens.
Big thanks to DSK again for a big $150 donation. In the past he also helped supply the stream PC with the power supply it currently uses. He has been a big supporter of the stream and i encourage everyone to check out his content at https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCVOIs-822p1Gzw5LCW6C2hA

Hopefully just an overzealous viewer reported you and not an actual copyright holder.
This is a great stream, but can we please get rid of any games played prior to 2007? Please? Pretty please? Whenever an ancient game from 2001 shows up, I feel the life force slowly draining away. The only thing worse than TvT is TvT from 2001.
Old games are the best. Nothing compares to 40 minutes long games with wacky build orders on wacky maps. And the execution was pretty decent even in the most ancient times even by modern standards. Games like Boxer vs Joyo from 2003 or Nalra vs Savior from 2006 are timeless classics:
I'm just bumping this just to say a huge thankyou for running this stream, I don't think I've ever thanked you in the thread before but I really love watching.
It's my go to - not doing anything need something to watch stream :D
I asked Medry once during one of the rare times he was in his stream's chat and he said he hasn't felt any desire as of yet to add any vods from the post-KESPA era.
I'm not sure how many vods Medry has added since the stream began. I know neither the GOMTV Invitational or Classic Season 1 have been added as of yet.
Sorry guys, we had a power outage here which put the stream out of service for a little bit. I'm putting it back online right now!
I believe the above image is actually what happens when the stream has gone through its entire playlist, it's happened a few times when the stream has an absurd uptime.
Edit: At least it should contain OGN starleagues. Im not sure where the torrent file is that also has MSL's and proleagues. I couldn't find it from google.
Edit2: I've now found MSL and what I suppose are proleague games. Theyre here
If there are no seeds for those torrents let me know, my hard drives are in the office unfortunately but I might be able to manage to seed them anyway (as long as I left them physically connected).
Hey guys sorry for the long delay on an update. Both of my computers had hardware issues over the past week for some reason and i put the net of my spare time into fixing my main computer that i use for work.
I just got the streaming computer back up and running today and the stream is back online. Hopefully there's no more issues but we'll have to wait and see. I've been unlucky with a string of hardware failures lately.
Sad day guys, right after everything was going perfectly, more hardware died! This time both RAM sticks, which are only a year old died! What the heck!
Thankfully had replacement sticks available and am getting the machine back up and running with a fresh install of windows.
Hmm more issues, decided to toss windows 10 on the machine during the re-install and suddenly vlc and obs are using 100% cpu up from like 30% on windows 7. Stream might be down for a bit longer while i get this figured out again
There's a donation link on the stream if you feel so inclined, any help is greatly appreciated. I feel bad asking for donations because I'm scared something catastrophic could happen to the stream one of these days and shut it down for good. Just this morning, the PC couldn't see the 3TB drive the VOD's are stored on and i was in panic mode hoping the drive hadn't suddenly died. Managed to swap some cables around and it was working again.
Hey Medry, I hope you're going to fix your PC problems soon. I haven't logged in to TL in years but I just wanted to say thank you very much for what you do, I've watched hundreds of hours, maybe more, of your stream and I really hope you come back soon. I miss this stream <3
I have the machine operational but i can't get it to connect to internet. I've spent countless hours on it now and google and i'm pretty baffled. The machine connected fine to the internet, i wiped the drive and installed windows 10 which connected fine but gave me terrible lag, i installed windows 7 and it couldn't find any networks. I installed it again with a different installation and had the same issue. I tried an external network card, every version of the drivers i could, and every fix i could find online and no dice. I'll keep trying to repair it because i would like to get it up and running again
Mind you I only have what I could find on this topic. As far as I'm aware of Medry hasn't shared his playlist through torrent yet. So I "only" have MSL, Ongamenet Starleague and Proleague. I welcome every link you have to download more content ! The Jormungandr hasn't been satisfied yet there is plenty of space in his stomach.
To be clear I don't intend to replace Medry or anything, I just want to provide some kind of solution for the time being !
I hope this help somebody.
There might be some kind of maintenance here and there as I've quickly set this up as soon as I saw that the stream was done for quite some time now.
Medry stream is at the origin of why today I can do this and I really hope that he is safe and sound. I also hope that one day he'll allow us, simple follower, to have access to his codex that is his playlist. It's a great part of gaming's history thus It'd be a shame if it disappears in the darkness of the void.
Praise the Lord ! Thou will come back save us all ! Praise the Lord !
Ps: I'll try to check this topic from time to time from now on. Don't hope to much though. Pps: I've just read the message from 2020 and I'd like to ask to Medry, if it hasn't been asked yet.
Wouldn't it be better to switch to a linux distro where you install only what you need to set the stream up ? You could maybe also set like me a homeserver which is running some apps like jellyfin in container and use another device where you just stream your local stream from your homeserver.
I'm in no way an expert but as far as I'm aware linux is pretty cool for this kind of thing like archiving data, build a homeserver etc.. I really recommend you to look at this website if you'are interested https://perfectmediaserver.com/
What is really cool is this tool https://www.snapraid.it/ which is a pretty simple and not too costly way to setup some kind of backup for your precious data. This way you can avoid the fear you get that day when the pc didn't read the 3TB of broodwar video you have :D
Hope you find a solution if it's still the same problem that you have.

I check my setup on my homeserver and for now it's pretty broken so before I can try to give you some way to download what you've asked, I need to fix my setup first. It should take some time though a couple of weeks at most. I hope so.
An other alternative is to check the pages on this topic their is some torrent link where you can download the MSL you can even choose what you want to download inside the torrent. What I can assure you is that there is the season that you're asking for. Though beware that it took me month to download those torrent because there isn't a lot of people sourcing them. Tomorrow I'll check if I'm sourcing or not. Hope it'll help improve the download rate.
When I'm fine on my part I'll post a link if you still need it.
I see, actually I need to watch games that Ro64, Ro32. Because I would like to know how gosu played on some nice maps. And find to difference between Ro32 and Ro4, the finals...

You're welcome ! That's just a fixup though, I haven't like Medry spent dozen of hours searching for VOD's renamed them and all. I'm just a random data hoarder that just could and wanted to help.
