What is VS server? VS Server is a Chinese virtual lan client much like garena, hamachi, or gameranger. It has its own rating system 1-30. The latency varies but the average person experience some have iccup like latency others have really good latency. The skill level is not the best but you will find games quite fast. There is really no language barrier because they just say g for go and gg and the end of the game no needless conversations.
#1 copy and paste your files from your starcraft folder to another folder. You will patch the game 1.13f you don't want to interfere with 1.16. (Name it something like Chinese Starcraft.)
#2 You will need to make a Vs account. @ http://www.vsa.com.cn/user/center/register/user_register.jsp Order goes Field 1 : username. 3 to 13 characters Click on the button on the right to check availability. Field 2 : password 6 to 28 characters. Field 3 : password confirmation Field 4 : real name Field 5 : Chinese ID card number Field 6 : purpose of the account. Select 星际对战1v1 (1v1 starcraft ladder) Field 7 : captcha
here is an id generator. + Show Spoiler +
#3. You will need to download the VS Client. http://game.vsa.com.cn/vsmain/jsp/down/down.html there will be 3 tabs that look like the image below. The first one is the offical free download which is what you will want to go for as a first timer the second shield is another version Version Type: -5.0 official version installed version and the last one is for older users that want to upgrade to the newer patch with minimal download.
#4. You will need to patch your game to 1.13f patch that to your new starcraft folder. Here is a patcher http://starcraft.7x.ru/?p=files_down&fid=736 If you do not have a physical CD see spoiler below + Show Spoiler +

Below L17 is probably the same as old C+/B- and under. Leveling is similar to iccup, you start @ L1 and play games to rank up. (You join all servers through the VS client, it's like a connection interface). It was much more active than ICCup a while ago, but I had latency problems with about half the people. It might be better in europe, and most likely in USA (scan has minimal latency issues). I haven't logged on VS in about 1 year though, but since their community is still super strong (they still have huge tournaments and leagues with hundreds of thousands of views in the top competitions) I would assume it's quite active.
edit: in terms of maps, they play Luna / Circuit Breakers / Fighting Spirit / Python, and then depending on the rank they may play maps like Ground Zero/Electric Circuit etc (due to their leagues running on certain maps they will practice those on ladder)

Thanks for the guide, but it's imo not worth going through all the trouble. - It will lag (same as playing vs Chinese on iCCup) - Using 1.13 is a hassle - No antihack - Levels (ranks) are meaningless because you can get them on any map. I don't know if they have improved the system since last time I played in 2009, but I got to something like Level 14 playing only fastest map. - Possibly even less players than on iccup

Right, because obtaining a Chinese ID card number and downgrading to 1.13f is easier than forwarding ports or downloading MCA launcher to be able to host and find games in a minute.

Yeah, but this is an international page with international visitors reading. I don't see how this is a bad thing, even if it doesn't works for you. It's not like this guide or players testing it just for fun destroys or harms anything. A lot of (felt) negativity over nothing. Liquipedia lists a guide to other portals like Garena. Nobody sane uses Garena, but for the sake of trying to compete with a few hackers and otherwise really untalented players - it's okay.
In an ideal scenario there's a remote and small chance it at least helps to communicate with the Chinese. Even if it is tiny, why wave it away?
On a different issue: I don't quite get the obsession with AH. It's not like there's a good and omnit potent Anti Hack out, even Fish's so-called unbreakable protection is more like a nice tiny icon you activate, doesn't help you if some random Korean has a way around it. Same goes for ICCup or any other portal really, except that it is exponentially harder to get a Fish admin to help you out, thanks to the language barrier and the general attitude of not careing too much about non Kors on a Kor only portal.
|
I played it last night and I had very little lag at all. It almost felt like I was playing lan. Maurice or Siz)Beggar on iccup said he had not lag at all. If you guys just give it a try because some players do not experience lag like Scan or Maurice.

i got a lag free game in 1v1 but team games lagged

click on it and it changes

Oo, this is pretty neat. Thanks for sharing! VS needs anti-hack though ><

If it's not the user name, then it's most likely the generated ID.

this guide came as a result of me squishy and draw all talking about how we can get involved in these other scenes it gives playes motivation to still play and try to improbe when there are big leagues that are still availabe for people to play in and scan is taking full advantage of that so why cant we do the same and get more games rather than waiting 20 minutes to play on iccup its just another option for those who are looking to get more games in and not sit around wasting time
|
From some of my Chinese sources, I was informed that there are 9 thousands active players on the VS server.
|
Unless you are playing tournaments on VS I don't see the worry to play against hackers. There will be no bm involved too Chinese do not talk much at all in or out of game.
|
Guys, you don't have to shit on every damn thread posted. He just showed an alternative way to play with foreigners. (in case nobody noticed, the CHN scene is fkn huge and secluded and this is just a process to integrate yourself into their ladder -if you want-)
CHN has bad connection? Yes, but not for everyone. There is also LAN latency and more games than on iccup (the opponents are WEAKER than fish, so this could be an alternative for those who are D+ to C+ who just can't win at all on fish and get discouraged)
|
My ISP prevents me from forwarding ports and not even MCA allows me to host. On VS server I can host what ever map I want to play. I experience latency far less than iCCup. For me getting the server to work was well worth it.

I must also state that the client you have given us does not appear to be written using standard mandarin... Nor does it seem as though it is Cantonese in nature. If I had to guess, due to my low ping-times, I would say maybe a dialect of Fuzhou or Hakka?
