Remember, even killer showed up to gsl qualifiers post ssl 7 iirc, pure joined jin air for a couple weeks, etc Plus i dont know how delaying military works; it seems to be you can just delay without too much hassle until mid 20s but that also is a big point of their life, plenty of progamers (i assume) always planned when they were 15/16 year olds playing broodwar that they'd go pro -> military right after Yes, afreeca is strong, but consider if that was there mentality for 2008-2012 or if they promised their parents n shit. The successful pros their parents wouldnt care but the progamer may still feel obligated to do what they promised their family

Be as it may, these top players still have the potential to travel around quite a bit, win tournaments (even something like IEM or DreamHack has great vibs) and cash in in general if they find a good team that allows them to do the former. It would be quite the amazing experience as well and I doubt it's something they would want to miss unless they had no results or couldn't bring themselves to play SCII (think Bisu, Sea etc...).

I think as well with somebody like Bisu, because they were such a big star in BW, they'll be a huge draw on afreeca and can probably pull more money in that way than if they were anybody but a top SC2 player. With somebody like Soulkey, he's still pretty much a top, top SC2 player, so any decision to step back into BW is that more difficult to make.

I have to disagree on two things: I'm sure Bisu could've been a top SCII player but he didn't like the game because it's really different from BW thus didn't practice much to learn it and ended up playing mostly BW on the side until he eventually retired and moved back. Other disagreement. I think SK would be a huge draw as well. He was rising towards the end of BW and while he wouldn't garner as much attention as Bisu, I think the afreecan scene needs more zerg players otherwise yes, he still has a chance to make a good amount of money before retiring from SCII so why not.

He is now making 200K USD a year. wut. sauce. i know afreeca streaming gets tons of balloons and is much much better than a typical part time job, but i dont see even sponsorship paying him this much

Btw sponsorship would not pay Shuttle 200k per year, but direct fans of his, do.

He posted his bank statements months ago, and it's been posted/referenced multiple times in various threads since then (the actual amount is well over 200K USD, I rounded down). Btw sponsorship would not pay Shuttle 200k per year, but direct fans of his, do. I searched and it was ONLY YOU that merely said that Shuttle showed his bank account statement on stream. How do you know he got it from BW and not from some other things? Was there concrete mention it was all from streaming/playing BW and donations from fans? Theres no solid statement/interview about that.

Theres no solid statement/interview about that. Have you been living under a rock? It's not just shuttle that's been documented. There are many other players making a lot of money streaming. It's just funny that Shuttle was one of the least successful players(in comparison with Soulkey for example), which is why I mentioned him specifically. Like I said, it should be common knowledge, and at this point, not surprising at all.
