MOD Note: Windows 10 has now been released. Please discuss all bugs and issues here :D
So you may or may not of noticed that Windows 10 was announced and the technical preview is available for download.
It is an early build but obviously since all those people posting content out their have their priorities wrong I get to rectify that.
So the important question in fullscreen broodwar appears to work exactly as it does under 8.1 in that its fine for playing the game but battle.net is a bit messed up.
Unfortunately windowed mode appears to be slightly messed up now too, not quite as bad as fullscreen but still annoying (once you get the slider for speed right don't touch it) In game is fine though
I'm sure things are going to change but people are going to want to know about this eventually so why not have a look now. I haven't actually tried playing an actual game but it seemed like it should work fine apart from enduring battle.net mess.
I heard it might've been due to old programs checking for windows "9" as in windows 95, 98, etc (ie. some programs may just check the first number of the Windows version). could be total BS but it kinda makes sense haha
anyways the real question is whether or not BW freezes like it did in windows 7

they skipped 9 because its such a huge jump in the evolution of their operating system (should probably mark this as sarcastic recitation of their official statement). I guess its nice for the industry that everyone will have a handy OS on their computer so they don't have to bother making a port. Can't wait when every program will be developed for handys and they just pray that it will handle okay on keyboard and mouse. Deus Ex - the Fall the future of gaming >.> Sorry a huge bit pessimistic after the windows 9 reveal.
good to know though that the backwards compatibility seems to still be there, I was a bit worried with their announcement.
I don't have a BroodWar install handy, so I can't check it out myself. But if there's actually a change in behavior from 8.1 to 10, then I can report it. If it's something that was also busted in 8 or 8.1, then the odds of a fix go down considerably.

There won't be a fix from Microsoft, the problem is because the DirectDraw API is deprecated so no one bothers making things backwards compatible with it.

You are being an idiot here. In fact with the new store they expect to distribute desktop apps also.
So in a desperate attempt to break the curse, they had an idea : "Let's just skip bad version numbers so we will only make good windows !"... hence windows 10 ... they just made one terrible mistake ....

Yeah and bye bye free programs/piracy/everything. This is what they've wanted for years, but eveyr step they take towards this gives mac/linux machines an upswing in sales.. hmm i wonder why?

This was my immediate thought as well.
Building the OS they realised that it wouldn't be any good, so they just assumed that the good windows 9 must have been developed and forgotten somewhere deep inside microsoft RnD, and they jumped straight to the next bad one, and appropriately named it windows 10. Oh well, that kind of things happens.

I don't know anything about this as I haven't experienced it under 8/8.1. I thought the fix was turning off colour cycling or animated portraits or something?

Oh compatibility mode, whoops forgot about that. Well I just put starcraft.exe in vista compatibility mode and it now display fine in a window.

I absolutely love Win 8.1. Just need to spend 2 mins to install Classic Shell to get the Start menu back.
edit: well I do despise those taskhost processes taking all my cpu for no reason, but I had the same kind of shit with Win7 so...
