People will go to extremes to avoid mandatory military service, no matter what country you look at. The USA and other western countries are no exception. Except USA service isn't mandatory. I'm not sure what you're getting at here. Ever heard of the draft? Edit: What I'm "getting at" is that the korean military isn't unique in fostering an "I dun wanna join da army" atmosphere in the general populace Maybe I misinterpreted Dominion's post, but I assumed "that kind of situation" referred to the negative one, not boxer's.
Uh the draft hasn't existed for decades.

I'm saying your point is moot. You can't compare Korean military attitude to the US because the situations regarding their enlistment are too different.

You're not articulating your argument very well. In any case, the "situations regarding their enlistment" have nothing to do with the actions of those attempting to avoid being enlisted. My only point was that people in western societies will mutilate themselves and more to avoid mandatory military service.
Which is true.

Which is true. ....thats an opinion...not necessarily true. dont generalize "western societies". alot of western societies get along fine with 1-2 years service. its accepted and ppl dont "mutilate" themselves as you would suggest. its so common in most european countries that i would argue people accept it. my backing for this point is from serving overseas and seeing the quality of soldiers who "just accept it" and do their time. (they are garbage)

And I'm saying it's moot because in the US, enlistment is voluntary, so people don't have to mutilate themselves in order to avoid it.
