Odds and Ends
Since it's only the second edition of the Brood War Advent Calendar, we can't really speak of tradition but we will do it anyway. As is tradition, we like to present you everything that was filed under „misc“ or „other“ or „almost good enough for an own article“ - odds and ends on the second to last door. It's a collection of interesting stuff the team gathered. Most of it is heavily influenced by Liquipedia.
Right, Liquipedia. First off, most of what's on Liquipedia Brood War today isn't really there, it's hidden. If you followed the last Liquipedia Review, you might have recognized that the editors struggle to find sources for past events. Some pages, like the World Gaming Tour ladder, are completely offline. As a consequence, you have to dig and browse endless lists of news. Especially in the case of WGT, we have no overall article to present you yet. Nobody wants to just add an empty Infobox, because it really wouldn't do the mile stone it was the justice it deserves.
A byproduct of searching is that you find unrelated articles, which for some reason just popped up. It's a little like doing a chore you don't want to do. You start out doing research on a feminist perspective of international labor markets, develope the idea that half a glass of water is oppressed by men and eventually end up reading how to feed your cat with vegan food. Before we drift off, let's see what we found...
1. The WCG Weed Incident
Lately, the big foreign vs. Korean tournaments have been expanded, mostly be Prech, who we already covered. However, since I'm a hipster, I tried to achieve what Prech was better at later, before it was cool. Here's what I found, a story about WCG 2003 from Seoul, South Korea. It has something to do with a notable foreigner, an airport and police.
Hello.
I don't make a habit out of posting on this board, because, well... I don't really like any of you, and I think most of the stuff posted here is pretty fucking uninteresting. This post however, has made my day, my week... shit even my year.
I believe it was Brown who said "Karma is a bitch". I'd have to agree with this wholeheartedly. Karma is not just a bitch, karma is a big fat mean smelly dirty skank ho.
I haven't heard any of you mention Smuft's dubious past, nor seen the reason why he's being detained at the airport, so I'm going to jump to conclusions here based on information I've received from various sources close to our hero.

2. Ladder Drama
We all know the wise questions Unk posed when he banned some city. Like, who cares? Yes, it was „Why not?“. It's a Brood War meme by now. People might think that this was drama and that the question was not only amusing, but also silly. And ever since, all ICCup admins have been idiots, all of them ban happy morons. Just ask a Polish guy called Megash. He created, and that's just a rough estimate, about 150 accounts in the last year alone, to tell the world.
Yet, older portals, namely the World Gaming Tour and the Pro Gaming Tour, had this kind of stuff as well. Reading it now, more than ten years later, is kind of nostalgic. You can raise your blood pressure artificially just reading about it.
WGTour versus PGTour
A hot subject which quickly got a lot of attention during the day was the World Game Tour accusing their rival, the Pro Gamers Tour, of attepted hacking. WGTour claim to have proof of Chr1s (Main administrator of PGTour) trying to hack one of the administrators' (Patriot's) account, using a password hacking bot called brute force.

To this day it eludes me why a notable writer of the foreign community would spend some hours on „investigating“ this „incident“.
3. eSport Buiz Sississierious Buiz
I really don't know why I archived some WGTour blog, which discussed yet another blog of an unrelated page. It's all about how much video gaming sucks, because it's imbalanced, people are rude, it's repetitive and the older days were the better days. I just skip the reaction at WGTour, because it's not funny and not related to FiSheYe's former team. I leave you with the article itself, so you can be enraged and disgusted. You might also re-use this later to troll. Obviously you won't, because you're nice and you wouldn't dare to write KAPPA.
4. Bad Picture Warning
The following thing is mainly aimed at the German community, or anyone who has a broodwar.de account with more than 50 posts on it. We do know that one of the old TLPD guys, Ziri- [name altered], once, a long time ago, played some grudge match against some other unknown player. He lost. He then had to post a nude picture of himself. He did, covering his man parts with a Brood War case. These pictures can be found in the hidden OT Forum at bw.de. So far only our graphic artist – Draverawr – was shocked. I do quote „OH MY GOD I WANT TO RIP MY EYES OUT“.
Hence, please do not click.
5. The ExVods Archives
Broodwar.de had tons of spin offs, which you hopefully did learn. One would be BWCL, another one BW4eVeR, inCup, the AFH server and whatnot. All of these are of no interest to us. However, there was a VOD Archive back in the days before YouTube – yes our game is that old. It has roughly 500+ VODs and highlight clips and was created by Zocka(eX. He retired a long time ago, and with him, the VOD archive went into bw.de's filebase. Still not worthy of a news, who wants to download 8+ Gigabyte anyway?
Yet, Zocka uploaded them to YouTube. If you ever wanted to see REALLY old matches and learn more about Brood War's roots, that's the place to go.
6. Brood War Riots
It's not much. Who else remembers awful patches? I do. I liked Infested Terrans. Go read here.
7. Outrageous
Hands down, we had way too little drama. There's this American we constantly make fun of in the Advent Calendar Group (we being XKCD, Fearthequeen and myself), but other than that – nothing. Where's all the good old wrath we used to live for? Where has it gone? However, it's not Christmasesque to add tons and tons of drama.
None the less, let's have a look at some of the most „interesting“ grudges we had. HoRRoR.T, a good German Terran, wasn't a beloved character. In his late BW career he flamed the shit out of kolll['s mother] publicly, only to end up on a plane sitting next to kolll's older brother when travelling to WCG (I'd really would have loved to see this). However, he also had some other flame fests on broodwar.de with non notable people. I do remember someone called Caryz[NsH], since I had the pleasure to ban him for flames multiple times. Then I met him in real life during a LAN and was surprised he was sane. Well... he was even good mannered and very polite. To explain, here's why I thought „what the hell“ - his infamous diss against HoRRoR.
Another, similar thing, I remembered from post Beta foreign Brood War. I do remember it was during some BGH 3 on 3 tournament and that it for some reason amused me to no end. If I recall it correctly, LRM moved on by walk over and the other team complained. Obviously, the administration was to blame...

Top Ten Reasons Pro Gaming Sucks
In my humble opinion, the entire concept of playing games on a "professional" level is pretty ridiculous.
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t liken professional gaming to playing Russian Roulette or filling your pants with gasoline while chain smoking Cuban cigars or anything like that. The idea is not completely without merit, but it is still significantly flawed.
Yeah, I know that in Korea at one point Starcraft was so popular that matches were televised and the best players were being stopped on the street by fans asking for autographs. That was just a passing fad, no different than the brief spurt of popularity enjoyed by certain American Asteroids players in the early '80s.

It's not much. Who else remembers awful patches? I do. I liked Infested Terrans. Go read here.
Already dozens of Infested Terrans have parked themselves outside of the Anaheim Convention Center, protesting and asking for Blizzard to make them more useful. This is not a surprise, says a Blizzard rep, "We have always known that the Infested Terrans were bound to blow up in our faces eventually, it was just a matter of time…and vespene gas." When I tried to speak directly to one of the protestors they had this to say, "My life for the swarm!" I asked him, "Why the blind faith?" and he quickly proceeded to chase me off, threatening to blow me up.
