So I came back to play on east. Apparently there are a few hackers which put alot of effort into being omnipresent. This ofc is annoying, but at the same time it makes me curious and raises lots of questions, like: wtf why? wtf how? wtf who? Can i deny it? Can so anybody deny it?
I'd find it interesting to get some more information. I thought and googled a little bit about it.
wtf why? This is the most fascinating thing because it seems so paradox to me. Why would someone put tons of effort into killing a close to dead server/game?
wtf how? I didn't have the plessure myself, but apparently its possible to get individually ddosed. Like it is said, that they are able to shutdown your internet for a longer period of time and that it would be easy to get the IPs of players via bnet.
Also are the cd-keys stealable? If you google for "bw cd key" one finds a huge list of keys which are well sorted. I tested some with my bot and you can find working unmuted ones.
Is it deniable? I read that it would be rather easy to protect yourself from ddos attacks during gaming, by just blocking all not needed ip adresses, or by using proxy/vpn stuff.
I was wondering why US-East is plagued and for example the much more active asian server seems to be uneffected?? How do asians protect emself? Is Wdetector of use?
It would be cool to get known more about the whole hackingstuff!

Why - because it's possible How - because bw/battle.net is old and not updated (also, BW is p2p so getting people's IPs is trivial) Is it deniable - perhaps some; but without Blizzard's involvement, not really (getting ddosed is not really a bw/battle.net issue)
There are some truly scary hacks that are possible on official battle.net, but I've been playing BGH regularly on US:Eeast lately and I haven't really seen them that often. Also, sticking to private games alleviates most of the issues.

For example, it's possible to make all public games unjoinable, thus rendering the battle.net pretty much useless (except for the private games).

I once tried to write an article about hackers and interviewed some of BWCL's black list entries. It's incredible what kind of stupidity came to light. Back when there was still a foreign scene, many of the map hackers tried to gain fame and reputation, others simply couldn't stand losing. I guess the latter is still true enough, tons of really bad people just want to win. Interestingly enough, most of them are so untalented, that they still lose despite all their software. Dunno about their mindset nowadays, but the majority of the hackers are downright delusional; I remember some D- like scrub, who bragged about playing against Yellow with a hack (for reasons unknown, alleged games against yellow seem to be the most popular brag thing of the biggest morons I ever met online). The urge to win might explain the correlation between high hack usage in public Battle.net games and number of caught mucho/possi players.
What baffles me more is the plain ignorance displayed by the community whenever someone more famous got caught: "He just randomly mistook the hack for obs mode. Trust me, he is a nice guy." Ah well, different topic.

Drop Hack Protection v1.1 seems to have stopped the game droppers/crashers for me. Never had an issue on Asia or US East since. WDetector seems to only prevent obvious hacks like auto-mining, resource modifying, unlimited supply, etc.

There used to be a program that would let you block ip addresses so if you knew someone hacked you could block hem and they couldn't smurf and rejoin your game.
I'll see if I can find it.
Edit: Google starcraft blacklist. All the links I could find were on questionable websites and some people were saying it didn't work with the latest patch. Worth checking out though as I can't confirm or deny right now.

Hackers on USEast has been an issue since the beginning of time!

When it comes to maphacking etc. i can understand why people use it. Winning, trolling, testing etc. But what really baffles me are those "Flux-Owns your Mama" guys. The ones who act only destructive. People which not try to win public games but to make em impossible.

I'll check it out. On my journey of googling bout the flux alike hacks i found out that hacks like oblivion have the most usefull features, like drophackprotection or antiblackscreen.

Does anyone remember the hack that let you turn probes into mutas?

East has been a waste of time for a long time. Unless you're strictly playing with friends.

West any better?

One of the more interesting hacks I've seen is like a command overload. It's like only a certain number of 'commands' can be issued to existing units at one time. For example, if you click a unit, and then click the ground somewhere, that is one 'command' (to move). Even workers get automated commands from the game's AI. When you tell them to go mine, they gather the mineral, and then are issued a command to 'return cargo'. If a bot spams thousands and thousands of commands per second, you will be unable to give orders to any units, and your workers will also stop mining. If you attempt to give a command, the game will display the text "Unable to issue order" or something like that. Shortly thereafter, the game will crash.

Never seen this one. looks funny :p.
@Nina wasn't it blocked or at least detected by chaos launcher ? I remember one of the launcher (before iccup) detecting some stuff like : "Too much input command from player X".

I remember Europe being better than east. If the lag isn't that bad for you.

Hey xboi, acoording to this dated wlauncher tutorial (http://wdetector.blogspot.de/) there are cool things one can do with wlauncher/detector (Autorefresh, check lat, check parts of ip, alert of hosthacking, drop oblivion users, close 45 dropmenue etc. etc.). Are those features available when using mca64launcher? Because i tried to use em on east and fish without succes. But perhaps i just didnt knew the correct hotkeys. If its possible to use is there a hotkey list somewhere? If you know something about that matter you can also answer in the mca64-thread, i ll check there.
I try using these: Ctrl + O - crash Oblivion users, Ctrl + D - show/hide drop window, Ctrl + L - On/Off auto refresh, Ctrl + T - Show/hide time
doesn't seem to work for me. Am I just stupid? Apparently i am, with the newest version it seems to work.

Scan helped translate this file which contains a lot of useful information: https://github.com/xboi209/wDetectorPlugin/blob/master/wDetector/wDetector[EN].txt I'm pretty sure you have to modify the wDetector.ini file to enable the control key shortcuts.

I've been ddosed a few times for calling out hackers with wdetect. I've also had people whisper me my CD key. I don't think there's a way to stop it short of Blizzard completely re-doing battle.net.
If you have mca64/wdetect you can detect hackers by pressing 9 on the number pad. You can drop oblivion users with * on the number pad. Can't stop people from getting salty and ddosing you/stealing your key though.

I wrote a cd key protector plugin: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/468592-plugin-cd-key-protector It's too late if they already stole it though.
