I played lots of bw back in the days, and reached around C-B rank on ICCUP. What server would i play for an english, active communtiy today? Is ICCUP still the "go to server"?
What server do i play?

D/C-rankers or returners find games quickly (at the regular hours...) You can find some good players there, too, old high-ranks like you, who, i guess, would love to see someone else they can challenge. Still.... "siiiigh"

Iccup is good because you can play on any maps with low lat most of the time and do bo3 5 or 7. But if you are coming back, I would recommend iccup, unless you don't mind getting wrecked 80% of time on fish.

You will be unprepared no matter what since you haven't played When did you stop playing, the game should be pretty much the same -_-

Best way to get updated is to watch pros in first perspective. There's tons of streams going on basically around the clock.

I been watching some old vods (2011-12) but I guess I was hoping there was a guide with some builds and their timings.

I guess apart from scattered posts like this with rather undetailed overviews it will be hard to find much analysis on new build-orders or metagame-shifts. Basically the major part didn't change, but there were some rather big changes in certain matchups. In addition to what's written in the post I linked, as far as I know, in TvT: early (like, 1fact1port) wraith-builds have gained more popularity, too - and in TvZ: you see a lot of +1 attack 4/5rax builds (that sometimes make 3hatch-muta look really weak and lead to many sudden sunken-busts... it's basically the standard build now) and the almost obligatory mech-transition. (edit: found a guide from 2011 to that 5rax +1, mb this kind of read is what you're looking for). Best way to catch up though would be to watch some of the new-gen terrans play on their streams, like B-royal wrote. Also people with their own old style like Iris are around, but Nada as another senior for example does a lot of the new TvZ-style, too (if he's not doing something crazy or playing CS or minecraft... and he has just married). Also, if you're terran, and you left BW in 2009 completely and only watched a few VoDs from 2011-12, you might want to really really read about Flash's career during the meantime (but I guess you know the general story). There are many games by Flash in 2010 (and later) where you

Best option is watching replays in my opinion, it will gives you precise build order. check this thread. http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/brood-war/310883-replays

The thread talking about the 5rax is DEFINITELY the type of thing I was looking for, thank you very much for that link. I guess TvZ wouldn't change a whole lot, I had no idea about that build and its timing, I do wonder though, why is it that bio is no longer effective vs late game zerg?. It seemed to do fine back in the day in both pro games and when I played (if done properly I suppose), but that is the only big trend I've noticed in the last few years besides the sudden use of queens (though I guess it's been a while since that became a thing lol). I will definitely watch some streams and I appreciate the advice, I guess I just wanted more detailed information since my internet is shit part of the time and I don't always get to watch afreeca streams and when I do is not at a great resolution. @iFU.pauline Thank you so much, since the dawn of time when replays became a thing they were the best tool to learn what to do but to be honest now days I wouldn't know where to download replays. Replays are not as prevalent or as featured as they once were, I'll download and watch some of those. Thanks again.
