The question is will he play professional matches or not, the answer cannot be that he both will and won't =P

Though he hasn't played in such a long time, I wouldn't be surprised if he's around trutac's level now I'm the biggest SK fanboy out there, but to say he was better than JD would be a stretch. His ZvMech near the end was arguably as good as anyone, but to say overall he was as good as JD would be an overstatement. Arguably the second best zerg for that last year of BW, excluding the hyrid PL stuff.

Did there ever exist a stretch where he was maybe playing better than Jaedong? Sure, but that's actually true for a lot of Zergs. There were Terrans who were better than Flash at times too. Even the greatest pros weren't in peak form 100% of the time. That's usually not what people mean by "better than X" though. Using any reasonable time frame, there's no comparison between Soulkey and Jaedong though. That's not a knock against Soulkey, who was a top 5 Zerg for the last year or two of BW, but he's still a guy who never made a BW final. Jaedong is by any measure the greatest Zerg ever, had the highest peak skill, and highest peak performance of any Zerg player.

Jaedong is by any measure the greatest Zerg ever, had the highest peak skill, and highest peak performance of any Zerg player. I think the point is that SoulKey was on the upswing, and was widely regarded as the next big zerg superstar. Him, BoGus, and By.Sun were all highly hyped, and while they had yet to make much of their promising talent, who knows what kind of legacy they would have created had the professional Brood War scene not been truncated. Nobody is trying to put down Jaedong here. His place in history is safe. However, SoulKey had a better grasp of how to play versus late mechanic than Jaedong did during the final moments of professional Brood War in my opinion, and it is an opinion that is quite common.

I felt that players like Soulkey, P7GAB, and By.Sun had potential to take over given more time. Couldn't agree more here.
