Hey guys - so I live in a rural village in South Africa and I don't have an active internet connection. I also don't have a very good laptop which led me to download BW since I've enjoyed playing it in the past.
My issue is that playing 1v X-number of computers in standard games has gotten boring. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make offline mode fun? I tried installing some UMS maps but the offline AI doesn't seem to cooperate with those maps. Any ideas?
Thanks!
PS- I've tried making maps with interesting features in the default Campaign Editor but then I open the map in the game with UMS option and the computers don't move or do anything and I don't know how to get them to play..

Unfortunately it seems you need an Internet connection for that nbaker

UMS maps should work fine offline. Simply use the "Use map settings" mode (maybe use multi-player -> UDP). There are great defense maps, bounds, and a million other map styles. Note though, that some may require additional players (some maps automatically end if you play them alone, and you would need to unprotect the map and change the triggers in a map editor to change that behaviour).
check http://www.staredit.net/sc1db/ for some BW UMS maps

The custom campaigns that you can find in the pre-installed maps are pretty fun too. That's something you can play and not have to download.

if u want computers to move u must in editor go to triggers and make an action: Run AI script at locationXY . BWAPI bots should work offline too.

if i have this in my broodwar folder while playing on fish and or iccup i won't get banned for hacking, will i? can anyone confirm?

Thanks for all the input guys - I did just realize the AI script trigger has to be active for UMS to work offline. It seems though that everything has to be AI-scripted. Is there a preloaded set of triggers I can DL to make the computer just do the normal things? (I.e. Gather, build and attack others)?

Yes. Not sure if the standard SC Editor contains these triggers, but editors like SCMDraft2, StarForge or the Special Editor all contain special AI triggers that you can enable. Simply set the location to Anywhere. I'm not sure how good these AIs are, though.

seems pretty difficult to have fun with offline starcraft, the campaigns are kinda good tho.

Try winning vs. 3 AI's on 4 player maps (FS, CB). Or vs. more than 4 AI on Hunters. Pretty fun.

i was on offline sc from 98 to 08. it was patch 1.0.0 vanilla. the map editor was my friend...

I have SCMDraft but when I try loading it it keeps saying "Failed loading MPQ" ..."Brood War add on not detected." ..."loading game data failed!"
I also tried DL'ing Scxe, ProEdit4.0 and redownloaded SCM Draft2 but every program is giving me startup errors, basically saying a SC file is missing or it can't detect Brood War. My SC directory is in c/program files/starcraft but I run the game off an ISO so I'm not really sure how (or where) to install the map editors
