on the other hand he didn't look particularly good so maybe we can convince ourselves it was because he's been preparing for BW instead.

(don't know anything about Stork's recent adventures either) I guess its possible Jaedong has been practicing secretly for a while before announcing anything but I dunno (even with 12 days to practice) There's a long thread speculating on Jaedong's various Fish server aliases/IDs, with many progamers surmising it's been Jaedong since July/August. If this holds true, Jaedong's been practicing for a few months now. As he's played dozens/hundreds of these games against streaming progamers, we've been able to monitor his progress. His ZvZ has remained strong, ZvP is pretty decent, while ZvT is very much a work in progress

So hyped!! I love Testossis but in my opinion they drifted to far away from BW and cant listen to the mistakes they are making during casting Like Tasteles was saying that you can have oversaturation in BW cose you can mine 3-4 peons at once from one patch... bullshit

That's not accurate though because Protoss and Terran need about 2.5 workers per patch for optimal saturation. After that the returns are diminished greatly. Zerg would also need about that many but because they tend to have more bases, 1.5 is what was recommended back in the day; I doubt much had changed.

That zerg estimate is such a rough number because I feel like every pro zerg has a different count at each 1st,2nd,3rd based on their preference and build orders. But if we had to give a number 1.5 sounds pretty solid.

I gotta give it to myself: from the hundreds of pc games out there I just had to pick Starcraft as my one and only favourite for ever and ever.... damn I'm so smart. And these are definitely some good times to be around here. Lee Jaedong its getting closer and closer and I can barely belive it. Since the appearence of the thread "Jaedong returns to BW???" (the best TL thread since the beggining of time, btw) I check bw news on TL like 3 times a day and boy, things are getting better and better, I'm having troubles expressing all my hypeness Some epicness is coming, boys fasten ur belts, this is gona be legend.... wait for it.... =)))

But this game was bad bad. Bisu let JD's opening 2 lings in his main and lost ~11 probes to it over the course of the first 10 minutes, all that while lazily leaving 2 zealots in his main. JD lost the game because he left all his overlords clumped at his natural and fucked up his hydra rally points.

I mean every average guy still playing the game prolly - doesn't have to ask himself how many zeal+probe hit it takes to kill a drone with +0/+1 - is not surprised how good JD is; we know which accounts he plays on fish - doesn't call the citadel of Adun twilight council by mistake Again, i like the casts but stop acting like you know everything and are such high level experts etc when you're just not.

I know it's hard for me and I can imagine it for them. I've been playing Brood War since it came out. But I play SC2 almost daily. It's tough to remember the very precise differences when you have both games knowledge bouncing around in your head and the same units with different interactions.

They are super duper experts because they were the original english casters for big tournaments like GOM. And Artosis was a pretty high level BW player. You probably know this, but I think your post is pretty condescending towards them and I won't eat it up. I think the problem stems from a lack of options if you are not a Korean speaker. There are zero "super duper experts" who cast Brood War for a living, and in a game that's as nuanced as Brood War, I think some constructive criticism is fine as long as it contributes towards better casting in the future. I personally rate Lee Seung Won (one of the best, if not the best, Starcraft commentator during the days of professional Brood War) extremely highly as a commentator, but I still found myself wanting to see free's perspective on the game after testing the waters here and there on Afreeca. I don't want to put any misinformed opinions of the English casting that went on today, but even the best commentators can be given constructive criticism, and even during Tastosis' absolute peak, I wasn't of the opinion that they were the pinnacle of e-Sports commentary. You can always strive to improve. Maybe a little more respect might be required for the status they earned as the premier Brood War casters back in the days, but you can't rest on your laurels if that is what happened today (again, I want to emphasize I have no idea if that is what actually happened), there's so much strategic nuances and almost a saga-like history between the players that it's actually incredibly hard to do it justice even you have been trying to keep up full time. No one is beyond reproach. And even though I much prefer Korean casting, I do enjoy high level English commentary when it does occur, and in a game that is as fantastic as Brood War, I think a call for higher level of excellence is not completely out of hand.

Had a blast at the event. The place was (almost?) completely full and the crowd was so into it. BO1 was a bit of a pity but the finals were super fun! Tasteless & Artosis were up on the front stage which was cool to see too. No stress, more exciting!

Sure, there's a difference between current knowledge, but that's not really the point here. You're absolutely right that they're not up to par with how the game is played in the present, but that doesn't make them not understand the game any longer. They've been involved in the BW scene for a long time and going back to it simply refreshes everything. Even if they lag behind, it's not like they're completely out of the loop by seeing how the current meta is like. I think they can analyse how something works when it's played in a different way.

Bisu vs Flash had me screaming at the edge of my chair for as long as that contain/gg move flash almost get done at Bisu's door. JD vs Bisu's 1st game was pretty awesome too, I'm very happy to see the Tyrant getting in shape and beeing able to get a win from one of the scariest oponents around. Unlike some stupid/hate comments suggested, I did enjoyed Artosis & Tasteless cast pretty much... Overall, I say it's really a good time for BW's lovers to be around, and to have well mannered, well intentioned and trully interested people putting their time and energy and showing their love for something I love too just suits me perfectly. Long live BW, TBLS Hwaiting, have a good day you all

Glad I sat through the entire VOD. I'll echo the common opinion here that Bisu vs Flash and Bisu vs Jaedong game 1 were the standout games. I was exceptionally happy with the plays they managed to pull off - Jaedong's especially, was not expecting Ling micro of that caliber yet - the sheer awe that I hadn't felt for a long time, where I couldn't help but mutter to myself in their presence, was a great feeling to have. Considering the potential diversity of their audience, commentary was stellar. Tastosis wasn't pandering to try and cater to SC2 fans either for the most part; they clearly knew what these games meant to the BW crowd and casted accordingly. I felt that they hit most of the right points (they even managed a pandabearguy throwback on Destination, which is what I started watching BW with - GOMTV Classic), with the knowledge they dropped (obviously not to the degree of us TL nerds, but it was a huge improvement over ASL casts), and were able to present TBLS in a manner they deserved, all while emanating their BW passion for all to see. All the credit needs to be given. Production was on point too. The classic zoom in into the start of the game was there as expected. And after the games were played and TBLS were lined up and giving the post-match interviews, they were playing Black Parade (a song they played a lot in old KeSPA tournaments and highlight vids), and the whole "we'll carry on" thing added so much to the atmosphere. Those glorious bastards in the back still have their impeccable music selection sense it seems. Ahh what an amazing day to be a BW fan.

I don't get this sentiment.. They catered more to the people that aren't the average guy you mentioned (people flowing over from SCII). They are super duper experts because they were the original english casters for big tournaments like GOM. And Artosis was a pretty high level BW player. You probably know this, but I think your post is pretty condescending towards them and I won't eat it up. i think you're taking this a little personal. I'm not condescending when i say i liked the cast and i simply mentioned their self-presentation of being an expert doesn't match certain gaps in their ingame knowledge. Yeah im aware- im fact i loved to watch GOM TV Classic Series with Tasteless+Littlesusie and Superdanielman later. Artosis never casted that, but he he did a lot of awesome things. I think i simply have high expectations towards the premier casters of this game. Tastosis casts used to entertain and educate me on the highest level and i'd like to have that back. That would require them to get into touch with the metagame, developments in the game and the competitive scene a bit more than they currently are. Asking for that seems like a reasonable request to me and no "heresy" towards the godstatus of Tastosis, as you seem to perceive it. By the way: Yeah i recall Artosis as a good foreigner, here's a list of his ahcievements achievementst How that makes my point being condescending, is beyond me tho. Care to elaborate?

I thought that Sayles cast was better when it comes to raw BW knowledge, thats why I preferred his Stream. Tastosis are better at hyping things up in my opinion. Sayle is more down to earth and analytical of the game play. Not saying that either one is good or bad or better or worse. Its simply differences with the different casters.

The casters... well neither set is really known for their depth of technical commentary, despite the fact that both Tastosis and Sayle are pretty decent at the game. I watched the Tastosis version but if Sayle is about the same as I remember him he would be similar in his tendency to explain the obvious (DTs plus corsairs kill drones!) while underplaying the larger issues (macro-economy, tech advantages, specific timings). Nothing to be disappointed about, they have basically always been that way. They did a pretty good job as far as English language casts go.

I just think we should all be grateful that we have Brood War again, like it should be. Clapping and cheering, this feeling no other game gives me, I couldn't be happier or more exited for next month's ASL .

They never even call out the build orders as they happen, they are busy talking about other stuff and then "I think this was an overpool" when the pool just finishes and stuff like that. They do a great job at what they are doing so I feel like an asshat complaining about it, but it isn't really for me and I miss Nukethestars! I really enjoyed the games though but it is clear that the overall game of brood war right now isn't as sharp and finetuned as it was when everyone spent 10+ hours a day practicing in the team houses. I am very very excited to see where Brood War goes from here though and I will support it anyway I can!

By the way: Yeah i recall Artosis as a good foreigner, here's a list of his ahcievements achievementst How that makes my point being condescending, is beyond me tho. Care to elaborate? As someone who's played the game for over 10 years, I totally agree with you and you're definitely right. They're not gods and nothing you said was disrespectful in any way. Any D+/C- player could probably have provided more insightful commentary on those games than Tastosis, and that's probably been true since GOM TV (everyone back in the day looking for strategic insights knew day9 >>>> tastosis in that category). But....that's never been their thing and they're loved because they're really entertaining, provide a solid bridge between many communities, AND because they make these mistakes and don't take them too seriously. It's actually really entertaining for me to listen to them clearly miscall a build only to hear them catch it a minute later and laugh it off. Rather than their lack of insight, I think it's more fair to criticize what seemed to be a lack of preparation. I think professional casters should watch some recent BW streams, do some research, and get a sense of the new meta in BW. Tastosis have been casting SCII for years now, and I wish they had done a little more homework on BW, even if the commentary is geared towards non-BW player. Focusing on the map, how it's generally played, how the players have been streaming, and the history between these players could really have made it even more entertaining--even for the casual observer. One example of how prep would have helped: Jaedong's game 1 5-hatch, delayed lair build (which I don't think he'd ever done before) against bisu was almost assuredly influenced by a build effort pioneered against bisu's 1-gate pressure into expansion/forge several months ago cross-position circuit breaker (which was seen as sort of a soft counter to Bisu's new 1-gate pressure into FE corsair). Bisu lost that game to effort, who plays a very new age zvp. As others have noted, jaedong has been sticking to 5 hatch, low drone hydra play which he popularized in 2008/2009. But he totally used effort's opener here was probably playing some mind games here, which didn't go unnoticed by Bisu. On destination, the 2-player map as well as the mind-games of the bo3 and previous bisu BO clearly played a factor for jaedong going 9 pool, and if jaedong hadn't thrown away 3 of the 5 lings that got through (and then another 2 that ran into cannons), he would have been quite ahead. These mind games were probably abundantly clear to a lot of people watching the stream, could have been pointed out more comprehensively, and I think they will be in the future. All it takes is a bit more preparation. They'll get there, give them a chance!

Firstly, I didn't want this to sound so angry, but I didn't find a direct way to not sound that way so I'm sorry for that I mostly was irked by the comment But they're trying to sell the point that they are super duper experts in the game and the scene a bit to hard when they're not. because, and this is going to be a semantic argument in the end, I didn't get that feel at all. They went for an entertaining cast which catered both to old school and people that have no experience into the esoteric experience that is watching SC:BW.Then your spoilered statement of the average joe is just assumptions made that are entirely fabricated from your viewpoint and make kind of no sense, but that doesn't really matter lol. And your last sentence reiterated the sentiment you already stated before and I guess that made it feel like a bit more condescending to me than I wanted to. From my POV they just tried to deliver an entertaining cast and not seem like they were super duper in the loop or whatever, they just talked about the game, hyped, bantered, gave some basic shit, etc.. And that's not what I expected from an established value that just casted SCII for 6 years or whatever. Anyway, my bad if I sounded a little too harsh or mad or whatever, but I did want to oppose the sentiment you felt, which I completely didn't.

Loved their cast although some stuff like the overpool discussion hurt a bit, but I haven't played BW since 2010 and I'm also very rusty and had to think twice about the number of Zealot/Probe hits to kill lings/Drones, so I understand that they're in the same boat. i can totally get that they are rusty and that they can fuck up reading builds or not so deep analisis about the gameplay/strategy. What i can't stand is their sc2 analogies every 2 minutes is annyoing as fk.
