Original post: + Show Spoiler + http://esports.sports.afreecatv.comNo formal announcement yet, but Afreeca updated their esports portal page with the above poster. Hopefully they'll confirm with the timeline for the qualifiers soon. Glad to see Afreeca following through with the December timeline as mentioned at the finals of the first ASL. December 4 through January 22 is pretty similar to last season -- assuming only Ro16 again. Source: Ygosu

I'm finding it a lucky time to be getting into BW. I used to play it as a kid (like an idiot) and I've been watching these tournaments and streams and was inspired to reinstall for the first time since SC2 was released. I'm so excited for this tournament!

Calling players like Bisu or Jaedong is an insult to yellow imo... These guys won multiple championships, they dont know what it feels to always finish 2nd

you know it just occurred to me that tbls still need to go through the offline qualifiers.
seeing how tight last season's offline qualifiers were (players like kal, light, sky and movie didn't qualify) it may be a tough ask for someone like stork to make it through unpracticed.
remember too a lot of players have joined into the afreeca fray since then like rain and soulkey so that will add to the competitiveness of the qualifiers.

yep, this Starleague will be the toughest we've seen so far in the competetive Sospa/Afreeca scene ever since we started to look at SSL's as "the real thing".
To me, there's nobody who is set in stone to make it past the qualifiers, the amount of A/S Class Progamers increases in every iteration of Starleague's we see. im highly intrigued to find out who's gonna make it.

This makes me really happy because having high quality English casts is what really hooked me with BW.
On that note, are there any current English speaking streamers/content creators that cast BW regularly? As much as I love watching Flash's stream, I know I'm so far behind with game knowledge and would appreciate anyone who can give me analysis.

It was an interview with some SC2 pundit on youtube. I love that they are back. tastosis....yay we can all look forward to them talking about SC2 the whole game like last time. That is a grand exaggeration. Sure they did that a lot of that in the beginning, because they were being mindful of the fact that they were drawing in a lot of viewers from SC2 that might had little to no knowledge about BW. I do hope though that they invest more time outside of their commentary into refreshing their memory of the history of both kespa and post -kespa scene. Knowing about the history of a competitive sport sparks the immagination of the past and gives meaning to the present.
Meaning: When you understand how the game and gamers became what it is today - you will care more for it.
They also need to update their knowledge of the current metagame. Its been a while since they both were playing BW regularly, so there are som holes in their general knowledge here and there, but nothing they could not fix.
The positive side to them is that they have amazing chemistry, experience, charisma and enthusiasm. There is NO denying that. There is a reason why they have arrived where they are today.
What is important in the grand scheme of things, is the continuation of BW and its legacy. Tastosis is going to help to make that legacy survive, because they are raising the status and awareness of the game in the minds of thousands of people new to the game. And without new blood and interest in this game, the game will die slowly.
And talking about community, this is where people like Sayle, Catspaw, Bisudagger, Prech, Cele (the list goes on and on and on), are the most important when it comes to sustaining that interest into something more than just what you get with your average casual viewer of someone like Tastosis. But it is Tastostis that is initially going to draw these people into BW in healthy numbers.

I've always casually tuned into BW streams but it wasn't until Tastosis started casting that I really began to get interested, reinstalling the game, looking up youtube build guides and poring over years old TL posts. It means a lot to me to see the two games bridged by casters I love and am familiar with.

Just re-reading the press release, thanks to EsportsJohn , and the Starleague webpage, and it shows the prize money awarded for all 28 participants. Presumably this is the 24 qualifers + 4 seeds.
If TaekBbangLeeSsang automatically earn seeds/spots in the Ro24 (unless Kongdoo/Afreeca advance them into the Ro16), seems that only 20 players would qualify from the offline prelims...
|

oh of course sc2 teams are disclosed with closing of proleague so stork probably has loads of free time to play BW starleague aswell although im a bit puzzled how he can switch that fast from being fulltime sc2 playing coach in sc2 team to playing star at pro level

they won't be seeding tbls into the ro24. this would reek of nepotism very badly and would look badly upon afreeca/kongdoo.
i am 99.9% certain that 12 will qualify from seoul and 12 will qualify from busan. those 24 will be placed into dual tournament groups, where 12 will advance to the ro16 and join up with shuttle/sharp/sea/last. this format was done in the last osl.

Agreed, down with destination!

Doesn't Destination favor T in TvZ even more? That matchup will be brutal on that old map. Modern Terrans will dominate Zergs on Destination.
|
On November 16 2016 01:59 [sc1f]eonzerg wrote: nothing new ? they are bringing TvZ turtle mech cancer for real this time lmao .destination seriously ??
Destination has reasonable winrates in TvZ, 52% isn't too lopsided. It depends if you feel comfortable playing vs mech openers or not i guess. I personally enjoy watching it at least, it's a nice matchup for viewers.
|
Are JD and Stork confirmed ?
|
This is not some small online tourney from some random guy, if Afreeca announced it, that is the confirmation.
I am not a fan of Destination either, aside from some cheese, P and T have to turtle hardcore to win on this map. Midgame options are very limited.
|
I'm gonna be gobsmacked if Stork does well at all in this. Plus I'm mildly shocked he's playing at all. Stork is 28 and still hasn't done his military service yet, and if Polt's service is any indication, the Army could come for Stork at literally anytime.
I guess 'ol Stork is trying to get his fun in before the Army says he has to go

L_Master can definitely help you with fundamentals and analysis here; lots of mistakes from low/mid-level players that are noted and thus will increase your knowledge of what is the "right" way to play and why the pros do what they do, to a certain extent.

But the map was just 52% in favour of TvZ, which is nothing but normal since T>Z. A look at TLPD shows that this balance also was stabile all the way through the period it was in use. There was a period in january 2009 where terran had the upperhand, but after that the map was completely balanced between between Z and T.
If anything Zergs have become better at dealing with mech these days, i guess since they have to deal with it all the time now. Does that not speak for an advantage for Zerg perhaps? We wont find out unless we actually try it out. I dont think maps should be safe and perfectly balanced. That is boring. The players needs at least some obstacles so that they keep innovating and adjusting. I like the map and remember it with fondness and i think it will be interesting to see how it holds up with the current meta.

every destination ive seen with T has them going behind that ridge and shelling two expos with one attack. that seems a bit much.

The sad thing is that we all know the outcome.

It doesn't hurt to try (aside from egos though)

If not for jetlag scan could have reached the qualifier finals or even qualify last season.
With more big names now its almost impossible this season.

Problem is that it seems that rarely do we have players that can get on to the level of the ex-pro. It's understandable why that's the case but still.

really glad there's no fighting spirit. i wish gladiator would make an appearance some time...

Hey,
do you know where (which city+place+building) they are playing? Because at the moment I am in South Korea and it would be cool to watch some games there. Thanks for help

Unlikely you wont be able to get close to the area where players are playing because there are always ppl want to watch flash jd bisu playing the qualification and disturb pc bang. Staffs will be very busy and kicking audiences because each group of bracket will start every next hour. Tough and tight schedule for them when ppl are on their way of job. At least you might have a chance meeting your favorite players front of pc bang when they just arrived there.

guys stop complaining about destination, you are hurting my feelings

Maps usually carry over but I'd like at least one new or previously not used map to be used to keep things fresh (like Taebaek Mts and Avalon)

Final count 608!
So great to see progamers playing these ASL maps night and day. Don't recall seeing more than a handful of Fighting Spirit watching hundreds of games the last two weeks.
Prelims in ~2 days!

Lets hope no one will shut down the PCs during the prelims.

This is going to be a legendary event. I cannot believe the Big Four are all going to be participating...so...as is the custom:
JAEDONG FIGHTING!

Is there going to be a stream of some sort for qualifications?
|
On November 26 2016 04:58 Zera wrote: Is there going to be a stream of some sort for qualifications? Not quite sure. I've just turned on ZerO's stream. He's watching a stream where someone is recording with his cam some Protoss in a location which looks like some kind of qualification or so. I can't tell who that Protoss is that ZerO is watching. Maybe a friend of his cuz he's kinda into him winning xD

It seems that Jaedong was knocked out from the qualification round as he lost in the semifinal of his group.
|
Oh snap, no jaedong in this? That is terrible. :/

There are still the Busan qualifiers tomorrow: link.
+ Show Spoiler +Group 1: Sexy, Tyson, TerrOr Group 2: sSak, Brainsin, Shinee Group 3: Leta, Soma Group 4: Bale, Ample Group 5: sKyHigh, Zergstyle, Britney, Miso Group 6: GuemChi, Snow, HoeJJa Group 7: Jaedong, trOt, Scan, Sky Group 8: PianO, Iris Group 9: Noble, s2, hero Group 10: Light, Shine, Lazy Group 11: FBH, Spire, Rush Group 12: Rain, Horang2, BeaSt, Modesty
|
I'll bet on some peeps for the Busan qualifiers.
100% will qualify: Jaedong PianO
100% will not qualify: TerrOr Scan
Love Scan but if he beats trOt he's going against Jaedong in the semis. Terror always loses, it's a joke at this point. Sexy will obliterate him.

Yes. Cherish these tournaments, because for a lot of these gamers, they are approaching the age where they cannot delay their military service any further. A lot of them have gone on the record saying that this will be their final gift to the fans who have supported them throughout the years.

that would be 5:00am EST. KST is GMT+9. Sorry for any confusion

No problem. Thanks for the clarification. This is gonna be a great tournament!

I'm really excited for this and hope I don't die before the 4th of December. Gonna make sure not to use my car for the month of December.
