The most important thing about the remaster, is that it sets a precedent that this is a game that is meant to last through the ages by continually reincarnating its essence rather than left as a binary blob in the dustbins of history.
In doing so, Blizzard transcends the concept of StarCraft beyond the material game files, much like how the game of Go/Baduk exists as an immaterial ruleset and not constrained to their material gamepieces/sets.
By purposely preserving the original game logic in the remaster, they codified and elevates them into the status of a common ruleset.
I can foresee in the future that, once the gaming industry develops new revenue models beyond what is currently conceivable, the core logic of the game will eventually be made open-source serving a role akin to sports/game rulesets, while Blizzard themselves can derive their revenue from what is accessory to the core gameplay.
Much like how you can play Chess online for free, but still also buy an expensive set of physical gamepieces.
