good skill toi have there buds. ey buds! this is good i was just thinking about it when I saw the relaunch stream. "Man the chemistry here is great, and a podcast/livestream show needs to happen." Good luck on the venture and may it be a success. Tuning in for sure.!

What makes you think Starcraft won't be the primary focus lol? The release of SC:R is a pretty major event. Foreigners streaming SC:R already outclass SC2 streamers by a wide margin in terms of viewers.
Seems like you're trying to downplay the seismic shift that's about to happen.
Sorry, you lost me at Greg "you're all a bunch of fucks / it just so happens i get paid to treat you like it. it's fucking awesome." Fields AKA "i genuinely hope something bad happens to you like you get cancer or something".
He knows his stuff but he does not deserve attention.
I imagine Idra who has said he wanted nothing to do with eSports anymore is probably coming on to support Geoff as as far as I know they're still really good friends.
Not the biggest Idra fan, but will watch to support Geoff in his new venture!

A game being really popular at launch? Wow, never heard of that happening before.

you're fighting a losing battle. IdrA is the Starcraft personality who gets the most amount of attention.
Yeah I don't care about Idra, not a fan either. Specially now he said he moved on from Esports. Sadly, Tasteless said yesterday on Ret's stream he might not be able to attend. Still awesome to see Nony, Artosis and of course Geoff

He draws a lot of fans but he should also draw a lot of them away, me including. I think it's relevant to keep this option visible.
Also I'm not fighting losing battle. There's no battle the same way people happy for IdrA are not fighting winning battle.
EDIT: Also damn it - IdrA behaviour was beyond apologies. He should never be part of anything Starcraft.

If you watched anything IdrA participated in, you'd know he draws a lot more people than he pushes viewers away.

I wasn't the biggest fan of idra either, but what 4 years away from starcraft completely I imagine he has mellowed a lot, he isn't going to be on the show for attention he completely cut starcraft out of his life what could he possibly gain from doing this other than to give something back to the fans.

I agree with this... people's attitudes can change, especially now that he most likely will not be competing anymore, nor has any reason to play up his personality.

He didn't cheat. He didn't match fix. All he did was talk smack and you want to treat him like Savior? Come on now.

Did you listen to State of the Game back when it was a thing?
Sounds great. Also, let's give IdrA a chance here. I know it's not as trival as "don't judge book by its cover", but years have passed and people do change.
Tyler and Idra both brought too much negativity to the game for me to be keen on this personally. Although I did love watching SoTG, so I might give it a chance.

Oh come on, the starcraft scene hasn't been the same since "villains" like Idra and Naniwa left. I don't really know much about SCR but I'll be tuning in just because Idra is on the panel.

I don't understand people making the "villain" argument.
Everything we've heard from iNcontroL and others points to IdrA not returning to this game in a serious/competitive fashion, citing reasons such as focusing on his studies and not wanting to be in the spotlight anymore.
I'd be happy to see IdrA on this kind of show again and I'd also be happy to be wrong about this, but let's not pretend this means his return to StarCraft.

I don't think it does signal his return to the scene. I just think he's a very interesting character and I'm happy to watch him talk about the topic.
will be nice if they can bring the same level of humor and friendly banter that made SotG great!
p.s. you can say about Idra whatever you want, but he really invented the "bw-elitism". Used to talk a lot about how people who he lost to in Sc2 sucked in 'the real game'. Guess what the real game is.

Not the same, sAviOr should go to jail (he did eventually? Don't remember). As for the price. Yea he got kicked out but he wasn't doing good by the time anyway and EG gladly took him to HotS shortly thereafter so I don't know about that. Yes he draws more people than he pushes away but some of these people can be drawn in different way while people he pushes are lost as an audience.
hosting it the same time as GoT is either really smart, testing how many will watch it even when they really shouldn't be, or fucking retarded.
I have faith geoff is smarter than that and keeps in mind most people will watch the vods, but i fear that they will take the low numbers as disinterest instead of the fact that everyone and their dogs/mother/children etc will be watching one of the greatest show's ever made.

I'm sure they will look at the feedback afterwards as well. But yeah, it's the last episode of GoT as well, gonna be tough to compete.

Yeah, also, they will have to keep in mind that most EU fans, and there's a lot of us, will be sleeping at the time of the broadcast. :D

Yep, IdrA has said he doesn't want to compete any more, he's moving on. He's probably going just to hang out with friends and talk Starcraft as a one-time thing and then gone again. Enjoy him while he's here.

How about we wait for the show or some kind of public statement by IdrA himself before we make assumptions.

Sure. I'll just ignore everything Artosis and iNcontroL and others who know him have ever said on the subject.
Time is far less than perfect but with Korean and American time zone folk on the cast as well as a miriade of other issues I choose this conflict rather than delay 4 weeks and run the risk of this never happening.

And thats a good thing? BW elitism is a cancer, I know it got atleast me to stop looking at TL for a while...
Can we not just let people enjoy what they enjoy and be happy and content and love what we love aswell?

Don't make assumptions please. It was showing up twice under community news so it was likely whoever fixed it only removed the SCII one so it doesn't display twice. BW one stayed because this is the BW section of the forum and it'll likely focus heavily on BW.

The Show would not be happening if SCR wasn't released, and these are Brood War players coming to talk about that game. They may discuss other games, but they are here for one reason alone; their love for the best game ever created.
On that note, I am super excited for this show, I hope it becomes a regular thing. Fantastic job Incontrol for getting this project moving.

NonY has the best and purest BW blood outside Korea. If you get him close, find a blood bucket and try to draw some blood from him for future generations - unless he is going to start streaming himself, then you dont need to do that.
I have to subscribe to the channel to chat? I even had a legit question that I wanted to ask Artosis about Blizzcon, but noooo, there has to be a 4.99 paywall.
haha that Suppy game was funny AF. I know we've all been young and did stuff like that, but its still comical. It was great to hear them talk but I kinda wish they talked more about their views on the future of SC:R and SC2.. that was what I was waiting for. Hopefully next time!
Ok so first things first: that was fun. I asked the guys and we are down to do more. It won't have a schedule and will be off a "can we do this" basis. Might mix in other guests and will have more structure as opposed to "shoot the shit" like we did here. No promises on WHEN but obviously more will happen as we enjoyed ourselves and people seemed to like it.
Sub only mode: this was because of the GoT finale and people's want to spoil for others or ruin that. It is a security measure that actually made it so (I think?) nobody even tried.. which was important. Future shows won't be in sub only mode and we will have people trying to say mean things / being toxic but we will just ban them.. but we WON'T have them spoiling one of the biggest and most important finales on TV for people who really like that show in our chat / Tyler etc.
Shows are HARD TO DO: the graphics/production etc was put on for the first time by myself and my right hand guy cobravenom. IT IS NOT EASY TO DO. Don't argue with me here.. until you try it you won't know what it's like. We did skype which is evil and tried to go basic but even that had some issues. I'm actually very happy with how smooth this was and that it looked FINE. We will look for ways to improve for future shows and of course learn from our mistakes but if you are hoping for quality around what JP does you won't get it.. he is an expert with years of experience.. we are not!
Time of the show: Scheduling with Dan in korea.. Tyler being gone that weekend and coming back in time for this + greg's school schedule (can't do weekdays or go late on sunday) made it impossible to find a time that wasn't basically only this that weekend. I am gone the next 3 weekends + their stuff so it was now/then or possibly never. I've explained this a bunch but people keep not seeing it I guess. Future shows won't run against GoT Finale (obviously) but probably will be at a similar time but maybe on a saturday which is sllightly more accommodating for EU viewers.
VODS: up on youtube ASAP (like 1 hour from this post) which is free to view. My channel has vods behind paywall as an incentive to my subs (what I do for a living) but people will ALWAYS have a free way to watch/listen to this.
I think that covers most of it? I'm excited to have these guys doing content with me and I tihnk this show WAS GOOD despite it's little difficulties. Hopefully you guys enjoyed it!

Thanks for creating the show I really enjoyed this first episode, I forgot how much i missed SotG until now.
Thanks for putting this together. I will always tune in for any future events if there are any, or if you guys do end up doing the streaming play+obs while talking on discord or whatever. Just needs more day9 uncontrollable laughter in the background to make it perfect.

Dont sweat it dude, it was a great show. The BW scene is filled with 25-35 y.os that wanna listen to idra/arty etc. gossip, no one really gives a shit about the graphics/production. We tune in for the banter/stories/trash talk (and of course the occasional gameplay discussion ). These kind of shows are a bonus, we'll take whatever we can get.
Awesome to see IdrA and Nony, had a great time listening to these stories once again. I love broodwar, anything related to the game just makes me happy, thank you Geoff and everyone else. Looking forward to much much more of this kinda content.

That was great! I've been rewatching old SotG episodes in the past days (I don't know why, I guess nostalgia..? ) and watching this show was amazing. Well done! I hope it will go well in the future, and thanks again (to you and also to the rest of the people involved)!!
iNcontroL, thanks a bunch for instantly uploading the VOD to YouTube, and for being super nice and patient to all the people complaining about subscriber only mode and explaining why that happened. You're a true pro. This show was a blast to listen to. The best thing to come out of SCR for me has been all of these legendary names dropping by and just sharing stories. If you do more of these, I think I'll drop by for every single one.
Hi iNcontroL, I just want to echo the thanks of everyone here for doing this show and putting up the VOD so quickly. I was literally watching it on my phone as I was walking to my friend's house to watch Game of Thrones, and then I watched the VOD the moment it up. It's so great to see you guys having fun and talking about the old days of Starcraft.
I love how Nony's worst BW experience is the same story Day[9] told in his 100 daily about Tasteless beating Nony by just picking island map after each loss :D :D :D
Enjoyed it, looking forward to more at some point.
Also, i realised that i actually do miss content with Idra. I do understand why there is so little, i just wish he'd "get" (or want) more exposure, casting for example. His very dry humour and straightforward (it was chris) character, i think, would be great caster material.
I was kind of expecting more "BW is great! What an awesome game!" bullshit, but what I got was a lot of really deep nostalgia from all the hosts. Was a blast, and I really enjoyed hearing them talk about old times. Hope to see more of this, and especially more of Idra. I'll always be an Idra fan.

Sometimes playing against someone who likes to do annoying things and completely ignore the meta can be great for your thought process.

GG NER - *dies*
That was an amazing story. Also I find it hilarious most of the stories somehow ended up with Artosis getting angry haha.
The show was a blast. I hope you're not judging the success of it off of twitch viewer numbers as us Euros couldn't really watch it live + the GoT finale certainly had an impact. I wouldn't worry too much about #productionvalue or structure on the show. I feel like the best SotG episodes were the ones that didn't strictly follow protocol and The Show felt a lot like that.
Anyway, I'm so happy you guys will be doing more. I've actually watched the first episode twice now, that's how good it was I just couldn't get over how happy and healthy Idra is looking. As much as I miss him as a part of the community, it seems like he is doing much better for himself now.
EDIT: A suggestion: Maybe you could give us an update on some of the people that we haven't heard about in a while? I would love to know what people like Rekrul, Assem, HovZ, the ToT guys (Strafe, Twisted, Lazer?, ... - I know Mondragon is playing a bit) and other oldschoolers are doing nowadays or if you've seen them play SC:R.
It's nice to see that even when people grow up and change in a lot of ways, there was certain type of chemistry of old clanmates still there. That offensive GG story was the best!
This was awesome. I laughed so hard watching this, I could relate so much to what you shared with your [Media] ventrilo nights. Sweden had something similar with HayprO, TreK, TuFFeR, DaZe, ZpuX, Mireille, newHABIT, Naugrim, SortOf, Bischu, RuNa, GoSuAwZ (I'm sure im forgetting someone, sorry). We would all sit on ventrilo doing 1v1 obs, maybe not as much hate went down (as in flaming and wanting to murder eachother) but still, the amount of fucking shenningans that happened and the memorable games
It's funny though speaking as an outsider, I couldn't help but smile when Geoff did some trashing on the Media-terran attitude. It was well known outside Media as well. It's like you knew the moment you faced a media-terran on ladder, you'd get flamed to shit if you beat them, fun times
EDIT:
By the way my most memorable memory of Artosis is actually a TvT against A2 (Advokate) I can't remember what tournament but it was a tournament series. Artosis had come back from a real disadvantage and couldn't help but to rub it in A2's face by saying "Try stopping this" as he was a second from unloading a doom drop in A2's main. Advokate some fucking how fought back and won the game, ending it with a similar "Try stopping this" and Artosis just rage quit. So god damn funny. If anyone remembers the series that would be awesome.
One question I wish I could have asked is why exactly Artosis hates Teamliquid now. He said he didn't like it and it was a bad forum, but he didn't really go into why he thought that.

He said it used to be great and it is okay now. Back in the day, teamliquid was the main hub for almost all foreign top players. Everyone of the top players came here to discuss bw - tournament results, strategy, ... and their opinion was held in a much higher regard than the average user's. Nowadays, in the times of sponsorships, contracts and social media, top players and personalities are much less inclined to post personal opinions on here as it could very easily affect their careers.

I suppose, but some of the best players in the foreign scene still post on here. I guess it's just the problem with sponsered players. I'd agree that the forum has changed a lot of the past 8 years since I've been here, but I'd argue that the Broodwar section is similar to how I remember it in 2009. We're still a close knit community for the most part who have all continued to do our best to keep people interested and get people involved in playing.
It's mainly all the newer people who joined for SC2 (and I'm not being elitest here, it's just there was a hell of a huge swing in popularity when SC2 came out) who seem to have issues. The SC2 section sometimes is a hellhole.
The top players still posting here are definitely much more restrained than they used to be. I mean, Idra was banned a hundred times and even incontrol (who I never perceived as very opinionated) was banned a couple of times, I believe. If you pull that off now, there's bound to be additional backlash on twitter, reddit, etc.
The attitude of the community also changed a lot. The poster's skill and post count or account age heavily influenced how you were treated here. I remember getting into an argument with Twisted about something and I was shut down, because it was an argument between a respected member of the community and the average forum member and the discussion wasn't going anywhere (I wasn't warned or banned, just politely told to stfu), and I was fine with it. I don't think people would accept to be treated that way now.

I would mostly agree with that... but remember this thread and what happened to it, and you'll get a pretty good idea of why the top players stopped caring about the TeamLiquid forums. iNcontroL tried to defend himself from the legions of mouthbreathing fucktards who descended on that thread to let out all the pent-up aggression they've been harboring since SC2 took SC1's place as the main focus of the website, and he got warned for it. Of course he's not gonna hang around.
This website was absolutely not ready for the SC2 transition, and the strategy forum in particular became an unbelievable, whiny mess. There was no real attempt at quality control for a long time, so all of the high level players who were still trying to contribute were completely drowned out by hordes of idiots. Worse, unlike back in the "glory days" the pros couldn't call them all out for being the mouthbreathing fucktards to a man as they were because they would have been warned and banned for bad behavior. We must protect the new players and shield them from iNcontroL calling their opinions retarded.
This place is no longer the place in which I used to lurk. I'm just here because it's still the best place for SC/BW news and updates and hype, and the BW section is mostly all right.

If they don't accept that, it's perfectly fine; this is not a public space, it is a privately owned discussion website. No one is entitled to posting here, it's a privilege and it can and should be taken away if you don't meet the criteria for having this privilege.
IMO it's more to do with the staff either being less involved, having less manpower to work with or a saddening attitude shift where demonstrably ignorant new users are still allowed to spout their shit as long as they don't get too flamey. At least in the StarCraft forums. Granted it doesn't help that there's now a TeamLiquid section for every big game under the sun (and also Smash); that definitely demands more time and effort from mods...
Thanks for hosting, I enjoyed the VOD quite a bit!
I hope you can gather these guys (or some other well known folks) for a fun little show again in the future. May be make something beginner friendly or fun - like say... explaining macro in a UMS-game or something. I see potential in doing a show that is beginner-friendly and interesting for newcomers or SC2 players and fun / entertaining for oldschoolers as well. I feel like most streams and shows on twitch require at least basic knowledge of the game to be enjoyable. Granted, Im watching more BW now than I have in the past couple years and really love it, but I noticed that many viewers who havent watched Day9 or read through TL a little bit are left out and leave rather quickly.
thank you for dear geoff greg nony dan (cobravenom and anyone unnamed who helped too) ..like many i never get bored of going down nostalgia lane...
i'm unsure if you want/need my advice, but not knowing never stops me
if i may, the $how needs
at least one game being played while you talk about scbw and sc2lotv and other rts (you all hop into a game of a current streamer on ladder as obs or you play each in turn like you would have done 20 years ago, just on stream / while doing the show)
at least one famous game to watch / comment (for instance take games from jaedong's scbw and from sc2 when he's at the "peek" of his skill, 3 games of the same pro <3 (he went back to brudwur no? )) .. so that you peeps keep going back and forth from/to the game which would lead to anecdotes that would have come organically.. not to mention those games deserve to be showcased <3 honored <3 (i do understand that there is work involved in making that work but i think you would see a real roi investing in the time for it to work, color me hopeful)
the subjects of discussion should be current topics like: what is macro and how it has evolved from vanilla sc1 to lotv and other rts in 2017 .. how is it going to be in 2018 and beyond... how adding scourge would completely change sc2lotv (as an example showcasing how different both rts are even with very similar unit/gameplay/limits)..
is graffitying an offensive gg acceptable to artosis (i mean it is implemented by blizz to be used right?) .. ergo the future of gamer "ingame banter/meta" and how it could be in 10/20 years or even just what you guys would like it to be, what your position on bm/banter is really and how it has evolved
latest metas in both scbw and sc2lotv build order/gameplay.. and what it can mean (is the meta always going to set the two games apart or closer together?) ...
etc etc
Discussing real live subjects would sell so much more than nostalgia lane!
in closing, i'll offer my services for any map editor work if you want to make maps for the show (again, getting pros playing maps .. to get them talking about maps/mapmaking (its history/potential/community/etc) and add that if you but ask, you'll get said mapmaking community working with u with ease.. they are waiting for it!

As an example Artosis makes the following comment:
If some idiot who clearly just signed up for the forum recently comes by and accuses me of hiding interviews because opinions of the people who I interviewed had different opinions from myself, what the fvck? Obviously that shit shouldnt be allowed.
But basically the idiot speculated based on nothing, and was a terran player who was annoyed at Artosis "campaigning" for getting terran nerfed. Artosis was making good content and the idiot just wanted to tell him Artosis was biased because he hurt his feelings.
It might be difficult to relate to Artosis reaction if you haven't experienced something comparable yourself. Personally I remember many instances over the past few years where I would explain something in a direct way using relevant arguments, but then some guy's feelings would get hurt and his response would be annoying while containining nothing of relevance to my initial arguments.
Most notably I remember writing a 1k word analysis on a game critizing a players mechanics and decisionmaking heavily and I would get a single response saying "wow you really hate this guy. What do you have against him? " And that is soooo tilting.
In hindsight, I definitely think admins should have protected Artosis here. Always protect the guy who make relevant arguments/knows what he is talking about - even if his tone is too aggressive - while the one who uses emotions/baseless accusations should be the one that gets warned. And yet he was the one that got warned, not the idiot who triggered him.
Obviously people should be allowed to argue if they think Artosis is in the wrong, but do so by focussing on the ball - not the man.

And looking back, I was 100% in the wrong and I feel so much for Artosis back then. However, at the time I was playing terran and just super annoyed at Artosis "campaigning" for getting terran nerfed, but what the fuck did I know. Artosis was making good contents, asking valid questions and I just wanted to tell him he was biased because he hurt my feelings.
Artosis just didn't "understand" how irrational people get when you hurt their feelings (like saying they played an OP race) but just thought he could "tell the truth".

I think posts like this is why personalities avoid posting here.
I wonder how they would find it now. A lot of the old vets bogged off around 2010 when things were super crazy with an influx of new members. Others kept going longer (like inControl), but have things calmed down? Would they find it better? A lot can change in seven years, but it could be good or bad change.
Tasteless' reputation as described by that video is hilarious and I could see that being the case, just the way he talks when casting
jesus christ people, idra got mad at people in a game 5 years ago, move on with your lives, how is there still a fanboy vs anti-fanboy debate going on???

Yeah, or hearing Artosis talk about the tournament that Day9 talked about winning

I quit posting in the strategy forums when I got called out for giving idiotic advice on whether or not to wall-in vs protoss on Steppes of War. The motivation being that what I said contradicted the advice Trump was giving his viewers and thus I must be an idiot to think otherwise than him. A little part of me just died right there and then and I never attempted to give strategy advice again.
Loved the show, it was awesome! Memories of SoTG ^^
Can't wait to see more BW content from these guys!~ Thanks inc for getting this set up -- it was one of many reasons why I decided to subscribe to your twitch ^.^

Working on developing a show that artosis and I host for this coming year. Will discuss SC2/BW each episode.
We have an event before xmas (not THE SHOW) and are too busy for an episode in december, sorry!
Good news! Just watched this and the zotac cup recently and I love the chemistry between all you guys. Would be awesome to see Tasteless and Day9 sometimes as guests on future shows also!
