More seriously, the only great risk factor you have is sitting for extended periods of time, assuming you don't have some clotting disorder. The devices are not bad, but I wouldn't consider them a real substitute for walking - between games, onstream even, I suppose it's feasible. Your doc will prescribe you medication, I'm not comfortable with giving medical advice over the Atlantic Ocean anyway :D Just don't sit completely immobilized with knees flexed for really extended periods of time. Passengers on long flights are advised to move their legs not only for comfort, but also as DVT prophylaxis. And may I say you are quite lucky the clot (or part of it) didn't break off when you had the massage and hot tub. Get well soon! And you did a great thing posting this to the community. Awareness does save lives.

Anticoagulants (blood thinners) are the way to treat, assuming no contraindications, with good followup care. Young patients with no significant comorbidities can be safely treated in an outpatient setting. Only complications - that is, a pulmonary embolism - are treated interventionally/surgically. Inpatient management of a deep vein thrombosis is indicated in cases where the patient is significantly comorbid or otherwise high-risk - like, for example, cardiovascular disease, lung or kidney disease, advanced age, pregnancy, inability to arrange followup care or follow instructions, etc. The duration of blood thinner therapy, however, is not short. Patients who are at risk for bleeding should adjust. A minor trauma, for example, can turn into serious stuff.

Did you not have a thought about you're lifestyle .. if it was infact sitting allday long not being active etc I mean countless of physical problems can develop from that.. diabetes chronic backpain wrist problems and so on its just surprising how many people at the office are confronted with these problems and never took action with the simple solution off being more active standup instead of sitting all day

I live the most sedentary lifestyle and my daily diet literally consists of energy drinks and benadryl to regulate being awake/sleep. I hope you get better soon, and I'm glad you were persistent on your second visit and they were able to properly diagnose you. Man, that sounds horrible. You should get your stuff together. This kind of lifestyle is a major risk for your health and I don't need to be a doctor to tell you that.

Going to the gym from time to time does not prevent DVT completely.

I know that psychology still a taboo (more so for males than females) but psychology can be extremely healthy for your body, life style and human relationships. I wish you the best, take care.

I started walking home instead of taking the bus (around 6.5 KM) and started doing some training at home. Health goes down south real fast after 30 if you dont keep up in shape. If I knew it when I was 15, I would have never stopped (I was doing 2 hours daily training each day at 15). Now its a lot harder as you have to pair it with the right diet and the right amount of training.

Those are going to stop the clot from getting bigger. And eventually, it will dissolve. However this does take some time. Definitely not Coumadin, most likely Lovenox. Good luck, hope it goes away without any fuss.
