The "StarCraft: Remastered School Championship" is set to be held by a Ode Inc., a concert production company. Middle and high school students will be eligible to compete, with a total prize pool of around 20,000,000 KRW (10,000,000 KRW to first place). Applications and online-offline qualifiers will be held in January, while the final live event will be held in early February. No info has been given on streaming platforms.
It strikes me as a very odd tournament from a very odd company, but I'm glad someone is trying to help the BW scene out at the developmental level. I really wonder how many kids play BW these days, given the the popularity of games like LoL and Overwatch, and it will be interesting to see what level the finalists are at.
Didn't see this post before, but figured might as well have a separate thread due to stuff in the other thread being buried quickly.
Since Remastered launched organizers lesser and lesser wanna organize anything about SC because of Blizzard greediness. RIP OSL, RIP ATB. This tourney organised it before Greedzard sniffs out money they can milk out.

pretty much. This isn't the first time that Blizzard has done this crap. They did it with ATB2 as well. So stupid how they are having such a negative effect on the scene while they imply that they care...
In Blizzard forum, it seems like Blizzard has some plans on holding some official starcraft R tournaments in the next year. It's more likely this is true, as there is a 25 people team within Blizzard which is trying to improve starcraft R constantly. Maybe at some point, they will announce the plans.
All of the above information is not official yet, we need someone to provide some source information.

What happened with ATB? I tried searching the forums but couldn't find anything.

And yeah... fuck blizz greed. One wonders why they want to destroy their own reputation again and again...
They don't, they're just clueless about their own games and happened to luck out a lot in the past while having a real devteam, instead of the people who massacred SC2 and D3.

Its not just Blizzard guys.... Microsoft Windows 10, EA, Ubisoft, Apple... you name it everyone is going full evil greed. People still buy it so why not?
Remember guys, Blizzard is no longer "just" Blizzard, its Activision Blizzard. Diablo 3 always online? Activison. Real money auction house? Activision. Overwatch loot boxes? Activission. SC2 in 3 full price parts? Activision. SC2 Skins, DLC (nova missions)? Activision. SC:R on Blizzard App? Activision. My girlfriend left me? Activision.... no wait.

Diablo 3 is always online because online game and not shareware like diablo 2 Real Money action house to fight black market. And what Activision guy had the idea to cut all that profit by removing it? Overwatch loot boxes optional. Also: People are no longer interested in games without a skin system sc2 addons were never full priced sc2 skins. dlc: same as overwatch loot boxes sc:r on blizzard app? What the fuck do you want?

Diablo 2 had single player and multiplayer. "online game" is multiplayer. I dont see any reason not to have offline mode. I also dont know why you would consider diablo 2 "shareware".
Real Money auction house is to fight black market? Id like to know how you came to that conclusion :D. Since it only made it easier for black market as there is ONE thing to sell. but it did make Activision blizzard more money as well. (By the way, its shut down now).
I know lootboxes are optional, but that does not change the fact its there to make money from people. There is a whole study about how lootboxes trigger the same response in the brain as gambling, and it is currently being reviewed as potentially illegal.
SC2 addons were fully priced in Poland and Spain (I know that from personal experience). Not to mention that blizzard stated at the realease of WoL it would NOT split the multiplayer player base but give the multiplayer "for free" to anyone who bought the original game. They kinda changed that later on.
sc2 skins, agreed.
sc:r on app: I dont want to be locked to an app that crashes sc:r more often than my old game. I really dislike having to run an app in the background ALL the time.
Oh and, if you do happen to own sc:r and sc 1.16, compare sc:r in non-HD version vs 1.16. the non-HD version has lower quality. I wonder how did that happen.
Common theme on this forum - It is forbidden for Blizzard to make any money(because "good ol' Blizzard" didn't make a cent) and they must give their stuff for free. Anyways I'm not surprised that you managed to turn even a thread about school tournament to that.
On topic. Tournaments like these are the most important for the scene. BW needs new fresh players. It will be interesting to watch. I hope that the finals will be streamed somewhere.
This will not bring new blood to the scene, because there is no scene. Tournaments like ASL, ATB and this shool tour needs to be constantly going to sustain a scene. No one will take it seriously on a game that you might get the chance to compete once in a year, thats why everyone disappear and those who participate does not perform at top level. What to do the players who are not popular streamers as larva, sea, flash. They need money to live and build their future, who will want to waste time playing games non profit in their adult life.
(re: linking to afreeca: I have to say their infrastructure has developed a lot in the past 6 months, watching livestreams or VODs have been as smooth and convenient as using YT or twitch.)
So, first of all: Great production! I was happy to see so many sponsors. Good choice for casters, the interviews were also nice to see, and they even managed to sell ads!
Second: I'm glad these offline events drew a good crowd of fans and they'll be hopefully even more for tomorrow. I think having above 1000 concurrent viewers is not bad at all, especially as I was glad to see many viewers donated during the stream.
Third: Good matches! Even as some players might have been playing below their best, having to handle sitting in a booth in front of a crowd for the first time, all of them have shown great passion, dexterity, and a drive to succeed.
The first match was great pownage, I was quite happy that the day started this way.
The second pair was probably my favourite, I really liked how P began the match but after that I was just sitting in awe of Han In Gyu. So many great probe snipes, and extreme aggressive vult's in general. + Show Spoiler +
+ manner CC's!
The third match was a battle of the imaginations of young tosses. The highlight of the whole day was for me the hero + Show Spoiler +
reaver that killed 24 probes
.
The 4th match was quite awkward but I wouldn't have skipped it just because this is not something I see very often.
GGs and looking forward to tomorrow's matches.
I hope this will not just be a one-off and we'll get to see some more tournaments in the same vein.
Meh, that other Terran shouldn't have gone for the 2 rax in the last game of the semis, he'd have surely beaten the Protoss player in a drawn-out macro game, just as he'd managed to win on Destination :S I like how he paced himself APM-wise

It was all good and fun u til he decided to bring trash talking out of game on Interview. The opponent was clearly down and he was just rubbing in his face and infront of his parents.
Even larva foot incident that crossed line had him hold back during interview. The kid just made tasteless comments insulting the opponents as well as making comments about his own parents

Issue wasn't the games. It was interview
plus wasn't it a serious tournament? larva trolled a bit in a showmatch-like event.

I've been thinking about that, but keeping it in game was pretty fun and it was funny to watch it backfire as well. Banter kept in game was ok-go for me, but saying it outright on interview on their face felt uncomfortable
