Having a regular sleep schedule is also crucial (yes, I realize I'm typing this at 3am). If you're trying to develop a skill of any kind, it's better to practice after being well-rested. Staying up later than necessary to squeeze in games at night won't be as productive as going to sleep earlier, and then waking up with enough time to play a few games before work. Also, for between-game refreshing, stand up out of your chair. Do a little stretch. Take some deep breaths. And try not to distract yourself by browsing the web or mentally engaging with non-game related activities. I'm guessing that as a programmer, you sit in a chair for most of your day. Over time, sitting at a computer, even with a very ergonomic setup, is bad for your posture and health. Especially if you're prone to slouching and rounding your shoulders forward, sitting for long periods of time is really bad for your circulation and breathing. Most people are breathing with less than half of their lung capacity when sitting, and the habit builds if you have bad posture because your chest isn't easily expanding when you inhale. I highly recommend finding a way to break up extended periods of sitting. One thing I used to do when working at an office was to constantly drink water. Not only did it help me stay hydrated, but it made me need to pee a bunch, which allowed me time to get up and walk around every 30-45 minutes and stretch my legs. It's a worthy investment to buy a 24-32oz water bottle and keep it with you throughout the day (especially if where you work has a water cooler that you can get up and walk to). So yeah, for me, it all boils down to just being healthy and taking care of your body.

- sleeping schedule - good food - move yourself my e.g - I wake up at 8am every day, only exception is when im going out. Sunday 8am? My alarm goes off. - Eating healthy doesnt mean you have to go full nutrition expert. Just do the basic things. No(less) fast food, veggies, meat/fish, fruits. No sodas, I drink juice with tap water mixed (half/half). I am actually lucky that I dont like to sweet things, so sodas are to sweet on a daily basis for me as well as pure juice. Dont buy chocalate and other sweets. And you dont have to go full health mode from one day to another, try to to make small steps and keep them up. For example one day I decided to eat more fruit (I rarely did) and more vegetables. So for over a year now I eat one piece of fruit and cut myself some vegetables to supper daily. Its just a small change, but bc it was so small it was easy to maintain. - I was never a big fan of fitness exercises, at 16 I did the gym for 1.5-2 years constantly. But my mind is so bored doing those. So I am in my late 20s now, I will work a lot sitting in a chair. I basically started doing a small workout routine which lasts ~15min. 3-times a week. I never skipped a day for 4-5months now. I would advise anyone, especially people who are working, find something that you can do regularly even on your toughest week at work. Its about consistency and my personal biggest motivation killer is restart the routines when you skipped for 1-2 weeks bc you actually couldn't make it. Thats why I settled for a 15min Body-Weight-Exercise I can do at home. If you feel the urge to do something extra every now and then thats fine. Again start with small changes and have a goal in my mind you want to reach in terms of "lifestyle". Dont have a body weight or smthn else in mind. Thats my advice

I don't think about the game as a place to compete so much. Starcraft is something like meditation for me nowadays. It's the time when I have to focus my thoughts on something specific which I like and know very well. StarCraft is the place where my thoughts get on the right track after work. And the very best thing about starcraft is that when you play 1v1 you won't get angry because of stupid teammates or broken balance, which is inevitable After my workday, often I think about issues or different things that happened during the day and what's coming next in the next days. And starcraft helps me relieve myself from these thoughts... After few games, I can normally communicate with my SO and stop bothering about the things that are an inevitable part of my 8 hour work day. So my recommendation is to try to alter the way you look at the game. Tricks to move away from the working day is to have clothes that you wear only at home, try doing some exercises after work, have some ritual that you do - walk the dog, walk the gf, drink tea, do something different that you enjoy once you get home. How you commute to/from work is a huge factor for me as well. Idk how is your routine but if you can walk through a park while commuting, it can immensely help you relieve yourself and your mind after the tough working day. Also - there are some techniques that you may like or get interested at least - just google for 'stress relief techniques' - an example that worths a try - https://brightside.me/inspiration-health/it-takes-5-minutes-to-relieve-stress-with-this-japanese-technique-279110/

I have like 3 hours each day to practice but because I'm brain fried after work it gets super tough. On weekends I play times better. Maybe some techniques to refresh your brain before games? Drinking scotch does not help much, only get angrier when lose due to my slow reaction and thinking. Let's try to figure out this problem. By the way I work as a programmer and every day solve problems, gets really tiring. Cocaine

My personal experience is - I have dogs. Spending some good time with the dogs, quick game of Fetch or just wrestling with them helps a lot. And secondly, I always make sure to get an hour in the gym, no matter how much I'm working. That blood flow, etc, is a game changer. If I removed those two things, I feel like after work, I'd just want to eat Taco Bell and fall asleep. I guess it's about staying active. P.S. I still eat taco bell.

- Do not drink alcohol - Walk home from work if possible (not possible in my case coz of workplace is too far away, but can walk to the bus station) - Have a nice routine when you get home (e.g. exercise, shower, cup of tea) - During the day focus just on work, limit social media coz it drains the brain - Improve your diet (less caffeine?, less junk food, less chocolate?) and sleep quality (have fixed sleep schedule) - Constantly drink water, it will forces you to pee and have short breaks to walk to the toilet (really like that one, almost no effort) - Take a nap after work - Play in the morning if possible (not possible since I could not focus at work, rethinking my losses and strats) - Cocaine

Water is the absolute best way to wake your body up, however. If you're at all dehydrated everything will feel slow and lethargic. Chug a few cups of water.

I don't think you have to change your lifestyle like others are suggesting. I say you listen to your body. If you're feeling super tired after work, then go to sleep once you get home. Play BW in the morning after you wake up. Try it for a little while and see how it works for you.
