A new article on Fomos is up on Tossgirl and how she was chosen to be the 'Progamer You Would Most Want to Spend Time with on Christmas'.
My first translation here -- please let me know if I misinterpreted something! Merry Xmas TL! This is your gift
Translated from Fomos:
Since December 16th, Fomos surveyed people on which progamer they would most like to spend their Christmas with, and STX Soul's Seo Ji Soo (ToSsGirl) won with 43.0% of 2997 votes cast. Second place was Ma Jae Yoon (Savior) with 20.2%, third place was Kim Taek Yong (Bisu) with 19.3%, and fourth was Im Yo Hwan (Boxer) with 17.5%.
She beat out the Emperor, Revolutionist, and MaBonJwa to claim the victory.
'Fomos let out this survey as a joke. Clearly, male gamers would NOT want to spend their Christmas with a guy. On no condition would it not be TossGirl' was a typical response to this survey. These comments proved that most active participants and followers of Fomos were males. It is clear that female fans need to step up to have their voices heard.
Nonetheless, Fomos seized on this opportunity and on the 23rd of December, immediately met with Seo Ji Soo and interviewed her. In the 'Progamer you most want to be with during Christmas' survey, you won with a commanding lead.
- There was such a thing? No way!
It's true. You can see it through the Fomos portal.
- I don't use the internet much so I didn't know.
You were way ahead of Im Yo Hwan, Ma Jae Yoon, and Kim Taek Yong. What are your thoughts?
- Really? I'm really glad that I won among such a competitive, popular group of progamers and it really feels special. I feel really good (laughs). [At this moment, a staff member next to Seo Ji Soo said, snorting, "Of course! Men will pick the one progamer woman and women will have to split their votes among many men."]
We are curious as to who you are really spending Christmas with.
- With my family, no doubt! I was originally gonna go to the practice area but only Cho Il Jang is going to be there alone because he has a game, so I plan on practicing at home. Also, my family is very busy so it's hard to all come together, but my dad wanted to use this opportunity to get dinner, so we're all going to enjoy a delicious dinner.
Do you have things you want to do on Christmas?
- I wanted to go watch a movie in a theatre. They say 'High-Speed Scandal' (don't know this movie) is fun, but everyone on the team already saw it. I don't know who I should see it with. [In parenthesis, the article adds, "a response to sway the hearts of the 1288 voters?"]
A word to the fans awaiting Christmas.
- I think it's best to spend Christmas with a lover but if that's not possible I think it's good to spend with family, buy a cake, have a party, and have fun.
How are you doing these days?
- I am grieving over the fact that next year I will be one year older. (laughter) Work is a top priority so I am practicing even harder. [Article adds in parenthesis: "Nowadays Seo Ji Soo practices at the STX Soul house as if it were a day job. She says that players who look over her shoulder and give helpful feedback are very helpful. Also, Park Jong Soo gives her the most crap? but she really likes his feedback and would appreciate his help in the future.
Any words you would like to add?
- 2008 is almost over, so I hope that everyone ends the year well and that only good things will happen to everyone. I hope that for me too. (Laugh) Merry Christmas!
God I would of voted for her too, she is tooooo sexy, howcome she doesn't have as many televised matches as anybody.. got knocked out of gom too early i guess
are eSports fans really that desperate for a date? There are about 100 progamers who would be more interesting to talk to on Christmas, based on their achievements in 2008.

would you really like to discuss starcraft over christmas dinner?
Hanging with Bisu would be pretty awesome. not surprised boxer lost, the dude is like 29 and he was up against two good-looking badasses and the obligatory girl

Probably because she's bad and most televised matches involve players that..aren't bad.

If I was sitting across from BoxeR or Bisu or sAviOr ... uh ... yes
Arent there alot of female fans in korea? Do they just follow the progamers that they think are cute/cool? Or do they actually enjoy the game and play it themself? Or why are there so few good female gamers?

Imo it is due to there being more male gamers.
If you think about it, for every single male progamer there is an enormous amount of (relatively speaking) poor male gamers. Since the number of females who play SC is pretty low compared to the number of males who play, the chance that a female will become a progamer even if you just randomly pick 300 people from all the starcraft players in Korea(male or female).
"Nowadays Seo Ji Soo practices at the STX Soul house as if it were a day job.
This honestly really bothers me, since it must mean that before her practice regimen was not up to par with the other progamers, whose schedules are known to be tortuous 8-10 hour a day ordeals.

She failed an scv split in a televised match, im pretty that truth isnt hard to deduce lol.

She's a failure as a progamer, she's worth more to the team if she is just polished up to look good for photo shoots for publicity. Harsh, maybe, but true nonetheless. Her looks and health are more of an asset to the team than her practise time.
you guys seem to forget that she kicked every foreigners ass that she met in the spirit tournament exhibitions so much for failure as a progamer, she still plays plenty more than any foreigner :D

notice I deliberately mentioned "she is a failure as a progamer", implying that she sucks at playing other (korean) professional gamers
if I'd said "I could beat her with my left hand" maybe you'd have a point

thanks for the translation!
Hahaha, I totally agree. "special atributes" these days are most important, one could argue more than money.
Well i guess being the only girl progamer has its advantages!

yeah, well at least she's not a total paper tiger, she's not completely for show she isn't the only progamer that isn't quite top, as daniel lee said, A LOT of male progamers also never reach anything special. and she did beat yellow once in a bo3, when he wasnt useless :D
but yeah if she was male she probably would have been kicked off the team a long time ago, so i guess you have a point

No, as you can see there are a lot of couples at TV games, but the poll is about if you HAD to choose one progamer to spend the christmas with, who will you chose.
Well, I'd rather spend it with a chick than a guy, especially if she looks fine like TossGirl. I love SC, but I'd rather just have a Christmas day for fun with this chick, even if sex was totally out of the question, than going to a movie, go ice skate or just have a nice dinner with a guy.
You say one given weekend? Well, that's different. A regular weekend, I wouldn't mind watching Boxer doing crazy micro shit all day. But on Christmas? Call me corny, but I get romantic on these days.
Edit: And I'm not a TossGirl fan or anything. Actually I am probably one of her harshest critics on TL.net, because I feel like she is given special treatment while she is a subpar terran, and the only reason she hasn't been kicked out already is because she is the only female progamer left and she is cute and good for marketing and team image. I so much hate it when people overhype her and say she is the best female progamer. I bet January could still own her ass in 4-0 in a BO7.

So why do they keep letting SKT1 zergs get on tv? >_>

If I spoke Korean, I'd definitely pick FBH. He seems the most fun to be with based on his personality and the way he could just commentate games while playing. Most progamers show too little personality.
As for tossgirl, the few times she's shown on TV it looks as if she has ridiculous amount of makeup on. Not exactly my type.

FBH speaks good English, so you don't even have to know Korean to chill with him.

Really? That's pretty surprising.
Wow, if he can commentate with Tasteless in his spare time I'd probably pay to watch those games.
It's not surprising that Tossgirl won the poll. Who wouldn't want to get with the smartest progamer ever that figured out something that no other could. From the thread: Smartest Progamer?

Haha, but seriously, she's better than most foreigners at sc, better than YOU (the average sc forum goer) and to top it off, she's a girl.
Tossgirl is a brave girl, going for what she likes eventhough we all know that becoming a female SC progamer at this point is next to impossible for her. But i wonder what the hell shes gonna do late, she was born in 85. Not so young now, family, job...etc. brave girl or no brainer ?
HAHA born in 85, so shes like 23-24 ish? Ha yeah youre right, SO FREAKIN OLD!! You know ive said it before and ill say it again, human beings should do the world a favor and commit suicide at age 21 to make more room for the "real" people who are actually worth something (the 18 year old dudes who play starcraft all day and night).
When 23 is considered old we are all fucked on this planet.
Also, its ridiculous how everytime there is a tossgirl post people come out of the woodwork with "shes not hot" or "shes getting old" or "her makeup is wrong" etc. Heres a fact for you... youre a friggin nerd. Girls do not like you. It will be a god damn miracle if you ever , EVER in your life get a girl who looks as good as tossgirl does, and who has established herself professionally as much as she has to be genuinely interested in you. Any of you. Ive seen the pics of TL members and trust me there are no tossgirls waiting for you anytime soon.
Hate to be a bitch about it, but all this is true. Just give tossgirl a break from your judgements. Any one of you would fuck her in two seconds if she liked you in real life. Denying that is really pathetic.

For some reason, I feel a need to bring up Paris Hilton.
