Hello. First Excuse my bad english. Second i would like to thank Michael who told me how to do it. From request by sen_birdie i made very simple tutorial for new mutalisk micro. If you ever (i bet you do) wonder how Koreans like Larva manage so good and fast to control mutalisk... well here is the secret ... He is not using standart micro with move-hold command or right clicking on target. Instead there is new, faster way for microing. He is using Move command with left click mouse on target then immediately on same target attack command again with left button of mouse (so M+left click on target + A+left click on same target(is possbile just with right click on target but is harder)) Then you move with right click away mutas and repeat. Well that's all. i made a video to show you. First it sound and look hard and i dont do it perfectly + my mouse is clicking twice some time.. But when u learn it you will enjoy it and you will find that is kinda funny and not least is better to micro specially when attacking turrets or scv.

Thanks very much for that Modesty, it does seem more responsive :D although it'll take a bit of practice to get used to.
|
Yeah exacly it respond faster. need a lot of practice. And when scourges are right behind your mutas and u can't hit or escape them use this technic and it will shoot faster. Also is the same technic that Terrans used to micro wraiths.
|
I've been watching snipealot a lot and pretty much.. Patrol.. for scourge Hold.. for killing marines M Con as they call it.. for killing specific units like workers, templar etc
|
muta micro depend of the situation
|
Woah interesting, I would try but on french keyboards "M" is at ";" place... Pretty hard to do it in game lol. (and "A" is at "Q" place).

This is interesting. Because in SC2BW mod the creator is trying to emulate brood war moving shot by making an ability that issues a move command a split second before the attack command.
I don't think this particular method is preferable to patrol micro when microing vs scourge though. When microing vs scourge you want to travel towards the scourge for as short of a time period as possible.
Move-attack would be equivalent to patrol micro perhaps if you wrote a script for it. But to micro this way vs scourge without errors or variation in performance is too hard compared to patrol method.
With patrol: if you travel towards UP direction, you move command in Upper left direction and then patrol in Lower Left. Then you spamclick move in to run away from scourge again.
With this new method you need to target click the scourge.
You achieve the same effect by move clicking past your target and then a-click. But admittedly this new method makes it much easier by allowing your mouse pointer to hover directly over the target for both the move and the attack command. So in that sense it's better! You don't have to move your mouse between issuing the move command and the a-click.
But conceptually it's the exact same thing as move clicking past your target and then a-clicking.

This is the beauty of brood war, 14 years after its inception, there are still new concepts and skills you can learn about the game. Although this technique may have been known to some, I'm sure the concept is still new to the majority of us. Nice post.

though iam not playing bw anymore i still love it. its just the best rts ever made.
|
This technique is for like sniping HT or Medics. It works great!

I don't understand how there being lots of skills that individual players can learn is related to the age of the game.
But conceptually it's the exact same thing as move clicking past your target and then a-clicking
But practically, clicking past is impossible to do sometimes. If you're right above an SCV, deep inside a Terran base, with units and buildings everywhere, there's nowhere to click behind the SCV.

its not new... im usin it for years to micro wraiths or in some case for vultures micro. I prefer right click

Love how cool stuff is discovered in control management. I didnt play Z but I loved to play that muta v scourge micro map. Will check out that move command into attack command on same target. Cool to see control evolving even more.

yeah seems a lot better than my right-clicking muta micro. awesome. will try.
|
Man... more muta micro tricks to learn (and then fuck up in game!)
|
Wow this seems really hard to do as you have like twice the chance of mis-clicking but once perfected this would be so good to use.. thanks for this thread! I was confused about what u were saying in someones stream chat but now i get it

This is kind of hard for me...Pressing the "M" key while muta microing feels extremely unnatural to me. I don't think I've ever issued a mutalisk a manual move command until now.
I am pressing the "M" key with my index finger then trying to reach back with my pinky finger and press the "A" key. It might be better to use my thumb to press the "M" key so I can keep a finger hovered above "A" throughout the duration of the movement.

been doing this technique forever really helps when you're bad/your mutas aren't perfectly stacked glad it's seeing the light

can do rightclick or h or p+leftclick instead of a+leftclick if that's easier for you (what'll work best prob depending on the situation)

New? I micro in this way since im zerg oo

Muta micro is all about keeping up the momentum, there are lots of ways to do it, this being one.

no, you move command directly on the target (m+1st click), then attack it (2nd click or h)
mutas can only shoot in the direction they're flying, so by using move command on what you want to attack, they'll all move directly towards the target (instead of sometimes being a little off and not firing if you click in front/behind or if mutas aren't nicely stacked)
