Either way, I think Naniwa said recently during his stream that "the best way to learn is to have a plan," and mentioned that you need to review how your plan panned out. Presumably that goes for your daily goals too? (If you want to go FULL Naniwa style, make sure to flay yourself alive emotionally so that the only escape is death or victory. Not for everyone, but can lead to beating koreans in tournaments) gl hf

How does one play super safe so they don't lose to such crap like that? 1 base THREE FAC TANK? wow But yeah, I remember whenever I tried to grind ladder after a long break, I would lose to stupidest things too. (like 1 base lurker) It probably has to do more with our game sense being rusty than our mechanics. I'm a noob, so I don't have anything constructive to say, but one thing that I remember did help me in 2013 (and I wrote about it in my blog too) is to just mentally be prepared for your opponent to do something weird. Expecting something strange to get thrown at you and making it a goal to just fend that off as your 1st mission in the game was better than expecting him to do something standard and then getting surprised.

Remember that your best game doesn't equal your average game, and that all those stupid losses you had came from you too xD.

Could you expand on this? I vaguely get what you are saying but I'm interested in what you actually mean.

I think what he means is that it's one of those 'ya, I can make it there if I put in the effort" points. Basically, you believe that you're losing only because you're not being serious or dedicating the time. As in, you're only putting in so much time to get to your current level and can easily make it to a much higher level if you became really serious about it. It's true that having focused practice can make you skilled much faster than someone who isn't focused on one task or serious about it but to claim that you can reach a much higher level based on just conjecture (and your own estimate of your abilities) is a bit misguided? Not sure really, but, I think that's what he meant there. Anyways, I dunno what GTR's gameplay is like since I've never seen him play a 1v1 before so it's quite possible he can reach that level or much higher if he played more. One thing is for sure though, I won't be reaching C- or more anytime soon lol.

I have been stagnant at D/D+ rank for 5 years now. Maybe I should switch to zerg or protoss...

Maybe I should switch to zerg or protoss... That's wierd. Why have you so firmly been sticking to the terran race for all these 5 years?

i think you just need to think a bit more about some situations, cause your mechanics didnt seem bad. what i mean, in this game you said: "that second gateway is just there for safety - in case i see like a 2 fact coming." then your comment on why you lost: "Didn't see Joyo build coming. God awful dragoon micro." what safety did it provide? actually nothing, because you didn't use it. you didnt produce dragoons from it, instead you queued 3 observers. you faced a 2 fact rush with 4 dragoons. your micro might not have been the best, but even if it was better, you would have still lost, because 4 dragoons are only enough to stop an fd, not a joyo. you also said: "i reckon he's going for fast expansion" - without any further scouting. so my suggestion is, just try to use more common sense and logic on the strategic field. try to stay calm and always think what would be the best solution in every situation, and don't try to make unfounded guesses. in this case, think the following way: "i didn't scout his build at all." -> "i must be prepared even for a 2+ fact rush" -> "i make a second gateway before expansion" -> "in the beginning, constant production is very important, especially that i still haven't scouted what he is up to, and my dragoon micro is not so good, so i'll buy two more goons before i put down my expo to be safe" -> "he is still not attacking, might be going for a fast expansion, so i'll send out a probe to 2nd expand, but i'll keep an eye on my goons" -> "o shi, he is attacking with tanks and 3 scv, that is probably a 2 fact, so i'll just back off fast and hold with 6 goons at my choke. i will be able to hold there with observer. and i make more dragoons." <- this last thought must be very fast and accurate. and actually if you talk while you're playing it makes it harder. so thats all it takes to win that game and i see you asked about 1 base 3 fact tank. - holding it is basicly the same way with the build you used here (2 gate robo). he can attack 3 ways, but you can counter all: 1. he attacks with a 2 fact timing, and rely on extra reinforcements. -> with the above written mindset you will be waiting for him with 6-8 goons and obs at your choke, more goons coming. add a 3rd gateway. use probes and pylons to block if neccessary. 2. since its 3 fact, he attacks with a delayed joyo timing. -> your obs arrives earlier at his base, so you will know what he is up to, and you can react the same way - 3rd gateway, make units and use pylons to narrow your choke. 3. he sieges up and frog leap pushes / contains you. -> your obs will see this too, so you just need to buy a shuttle and zealot bomb with the dragoon attack. also add 3rd gw, citadel and zealot speed. extra tip: don't second exp before your obs arrived in his base, and you see that he has expanded too, cause he might do some crazy stuff like 1 base 4 fact! or 2 fact starport.
