maps like python might be slightly better coz closer distance + he can scout for overlord.. that said im not sure if you're a lot smarter... (judging from the fact that you have to ask it yourself and decides to post a thread here)

It's 4 pool that's the pain to see coming in time without hurting your own economy if they aren't 4-pooling.

Yeah, he's a whining scrub Why wouldn't he just double-worker scout at the appropriate 'just in time' timing in order to see a 9 pool rush coming? It's not hard. 1/3 chance you don't even send out the second worker. Or he could just whine at how the game is unfair and feel good without having to put in work + Show Spoiler + The proper time to scout with the second SCV is when the first SCV is leaving the first scouted base. This happens when the barracks is complete in a normal build order.

Good building placement is much more important versus a 4 Pool than scouting it 5sec earlier, because you don't have a Marine out, so the only advantage you get from earlier scouting is you can buy some time with blocking the ramp to let the bunker finish but you can also just do it with good SCV control.

You will see the Zerglings at your natural entrance with your second scout, which gives you enough time to pull SCVs and putting down a bunker. Right, but your 2nd SCV isn't just sitting at your natural entrance, it's on its way to check out another starting position, yes? So, what are the odds that it clears out just in time to miss 4- or 5-pool lings sent from the cross position? (I seldom scout cross first since its farther). What do you like in terms of scout timing?

Of course there might be some rare occasions where you don't have any clue until the lings are in your base, but that doesn't justify something like a 9 scout as with a quick reaction you can still win the majority of the games.

EDIT – I think I may've misunderstood your timing, Cryoc. When you say "scout with 12/18", I took that to mean scout with your 12th SCV. Is what you mean instead is to scout with your 11th SCV, while your 12th is building? I'm going to assume so, I guess.
