I have these things and they eat up the blue rock candy and then they break the chunks and feed it into this bigger thing and yah. How am i supposed to win? Where do I begin? I was thinking about playing all three races at once. How do i decide which race to play? How do I even do? Like, what is it? What is meaning? How do I even? Where do I begin? How do you play all the possible matchups?
EDIT: I thought it would be a good mental exercise to think of Brood War from a complete beginner's perspective who has never had any experience in RTS or any video games to start the organic learning process all over once again.
EDIT 2: Added some more clarification in case things weren't clear enough.
2/5/16: Thread has not died. Thread lives. Thread deceives. Thread thrives.
2/25/16: Please commit yourself into giving me tons of information when I say that I'm a newcomer who will then quit the game after 2 weeks of figuring out going hardcore is a lot tougher than I thought it would be.

either you miss your daily dose of prozac or this is one fine troll thread.

Sorry, I wanted to think outside of the box for a strategy thread but it seems like the expectation has fallen short. Also, let's not joke about prozac! I don't know if you meant that as a joke or if that was an insult. I really tried to write from a new new player's perspective, spur some interesting conversation. Thanks for your comment though probemicro, I am absorbing comments as they come.

You could have put some words beneath the first paragraph to clear up what you're trying to do. lol.

and why do you want to look at it from a new/fresh perspective? are you dissatisfied with certain things in your current playing ability or you just want to spur discussions? but you should note that there are certain things or habits that are already pretty much hardwired into your brain by now (especially if you are older) and would be extremely difficult to change or improve even with commitment (though not impossible)

I think personally, in my very own honest opinion, no offense, that I think I could improve upon things and effectively travel into the past mentally. It's like doing over your previous years of existence and you think about all the regrets and wrongs that can now be righted. Hey, thanks for your comment!
Edit number 1: Spurring conversation is also pretty good I think.

thats precisely the point im making, you are not a new player. you are not a fresh 16 year old MOBA player who is interested in RTS but has no experience with it.
you have past experiences, past learning journey, inbuilt muscle memory, past regrets and wrongs etc...all those things are still in your head. i highly doubt someone who already has some preconceived notions of how to play the game AND HAVE BEEN DOING IT FOR YEARS will be able to forget and "rewrite" everything over conveniently.
unconciously you will hinge upon your old muscle memory when you start to play, you cannot truly unlearn that. when you are "relearning" the game who is to say you will not start to relapse and go back to your old ways during a difficult moment ingame? all these would not happen with the fresh 16 year old.
the best you should do is to list, target and correct some bad habits/methods in your gameplay, because thats whats more efficient for your current age/level, even if you have all the time in the world.
this thread is fine but you have to bear these in mind.

If you think about it, a hatchery is a nexus and a gate, it's slightly cheaper than a nexus but way more expansive than a gate, and it produces any zerg unit at a rate not much higher than a gate. Plus, you have to make your pylons out of that building's production rate too.
edit: i thought you were terran though

Also since when do we allow troll threads, or have I just misread everything?

You don't think the game, you feel it. Hope this help.

I'm a big fan of the Zen concept of "beginner's mind", but this might be taking the concept slightly further than necessary.

I won't give advice until Nina does first. And once she does, no other comments will be necessary.

Nina won't give her advice to such a noob. But I'll throw out my tip. If you don't know the hotkey to burrow then there is no hope for you.

what. that's crap.
If you really want to understand more, or think over your game / strategy as an abstract concept, go and write some lenghty guide about a specific topic. It doesn't matter what it's going to be about, as long as you sit down, think and then try to bring your thoughts on paper. Let the community review it and get their ideas. You'd be surprised how much this actually makes you re-think everything about the topic you thought you knew. Besides, everyone will win.

Pick a match-up, choose a build, practice and refine it. Rinse and repeat.
