For example, in TvP, you can choose the plan to take three bases as soon as possible, get a strong army with upgrades, and attack. Depending on what happens in the game, you will take your third base earlier or later. You may expand with 2, 3, 4 , or 5 factories. You may also attack very early or wait until you have 200 / 200.

A beginner could just start with a general gameplan and build stuff intuitively, but it would take him/her dozens, rather hundreds of games to figure out how to even get to (e.g.) three bases and a big push against another beginner who follows one of the professionally developed build-orders (including the advice of what to do with it). Especially versus an aggressive one the first player would just get knocked out early. A true 100% beginner might e.g. as Terran intuitively (or in reaction to losses) build a rax before his depot, or not even prioritize to build SCVs constantly, or build bunkers he/she doesn't need etc. At least practicing an opening is essential IMO given how fine-tuned most build-orders are. If a beginner picked up a build-order and blindly follows it without a general gameplan on the other hand, he/she might learn to consistently get to a certain point in the game or even take some random lategame-wins, but would get outplayed eventually by anyone who has a build-order AND an idea of how he/she wants to play and end the game. Changing the build-order for the sake of the gameplan without messing up the macro is quite hard sometimes, too... thus I've read many posts by good players on this forum with a (simplified) beginner-advice like: Follow your build-order exactly, and never change your gameplan. edit just to make it more appropriate for this thread: Kappa

If you're not over-averagely gifted for this kind of activity or ambitious it's almost inevitable that the long learning process in BW starts to turn you down at some time temporarily, especially if you finally reached a new rank - and then get crushed completely by someone 1-2 ranks above again as if your effort was "in vain".

Don't whip your tip out. My advice to ty2 is to find a state where marijuana is legal, go there, and chill out.
