So what could I be doing wrong? What are some good macro builds for protoss? I'm just astonished at how easily I get run over both in TvP and PvT..

Basic rules for good macro are: - follow a build order (liquidpedia has tons of info on standard build orders, pick one and practice it in the single player) - always build one worker at a time from all your CCs/nexuses, send it to mine as soon as it pops out, and never have gaps/breaks in your worker production. - never get supply blocked, but don't over-produce depots/pylons if you don't need them - keep your resource-counters as low as possible by spending everything on production buildings and unit production (and try to not queue up units, always one at a time but without gaps, just like with the worker-production) (- if you need special stuff like upgrades/detection/tech, add it when opportune; your build order should tell you when to add it in standard games) If you have few minerals but no units, i'm 99% sure your problem is constant worker production. In threads like these you should provide a replay so people can identify your problem, your own description is short and, as you wrote, you know there is a problem but you can't see/describe it. edit: also don't care for ranks for now; you can meet B rank players who would have been D/C pre-patch but got placed high due to lucky placement-matches

Thank you for your reply. You give some good pointers, which I was already keeping in mind during game but good of you to state them anyway. I will post a replay here when I get beaten again like this.

Build order would only be an issue if you stay on one base for 10 minutes or more, that's too long. Or if you build 4-5 gateways/factories on one base, that's too many. You want to expand in the first 4-6 minutes (it's an exact time actually, depending on your build-order). Terran normally expands when they have one factory-production (and then 400 minerals for the CC), sometimes even before the factory, rarely on 2. Protoss normally on 1 or 2 gates, sometimes on 0, hardly ever on more than 2. Generally speaking you want to expand as fast as possible because doubling your production rocks obviously. On one base you can have quite a few units, on two bases you can build a shitton and just overrun a one-base-player. The faster you expand, the faster you get double worker production so you grow twice as fast. edit: And building one worker at a time without a break from every CC/nexus throughout the first 10-15 minutes of every game is the most important macro-skill to have with P and T...

possibly because of your expo timing but most like due to probe production watch a rep and click your main nexus. it should be building a probe 95%+ of the time a general framework for standard pvt (vs fac fe) is 1 gate > nex (~4min) > robo > +2 gates > 3rd (~7min) > fac count+2 gates > citadel, forge (nat gas + 3rd gas) > +1, legs, stargate, archives > tribunal > ramp to 10+ gates and 4th (9~12min)

You should only be cutting workers early/mid game to defend timing pushes or all in builds, and maybe something like getting a reaver out in time. As stated above: - always build one worker at a time from all your CCs/nexuses, send it to mine as soon as it pops out, and never have gaps/breaks in your worker production. This is a huge deal which a lot of lower and even "high level" foreigners have a problem with, putting each worker to work right as it pops out.. Not only should every worker be sent straight to mine, you should try to send it to a patch that isn't currently being mined. I see a lot of players send every worker to the same patch and let them fix themselves... That's simply lost mining time and a big deal early game. Also, when transferring workers to an expansion, try to shift click them to their own mineral patch to ensure the most efficient mining. Sending 8 workers to 1 patch and letting them fix themselves is not acceptable if you want beast mode macro. Without doing all of the above efficiently, it's going to be hard to copy build/orders and timings efficiently. Your macro will only be as good as your economy allows... So pay attention to EVERY worker that pops out of EVERY cc/nexus and your macro, timing pushes and defense against timing pushes will be so much stronger.
