I think (hope :p) this deserves its own thread, if it doesn't feel free to delete it and I'll repost it in the "The Worker Split" thread.
After I read the above mentioned thread I was looking for a map to practice splitting, but only found one (http://www.strategyaday.com/2007/08/) which I didnt really like.
So I made my own map. Its very simple, you start with a CC, 50 minerals and 4 scvs, and mineral fields in all 4 directions so you can chose if you want to split in a certain direction (i.e to minerals below the CC).
When at least 3 SCVs reaches a mineral field, the map will wait a few sec then reset everything, so you can send all scvs again. Repeat this until you reach the KeSPA ranking!
Here is the link to the map if you want to try it out [url blocked] (megaupload)
Can anyone repost it on another hosting service? Megaupload ALWAYS tells me there is no download slot for my country and I dont feel like installing their toolbar.

At the start can u copy that terran main setup paste it as Zerg and Protoss, u start with a civi choose one of three beacons, that way 1zerg 2terran 3protoss, and then yeah, dont forget Zergs ovie!
I cant work editors but u seem to know how!
edit: the map stopped resetting!
page 3, the map has been posted by me, I feel it is finally completed
ok i have edited the map again, im still not done, but now u can choose your race a 2nd time, so now u can use two races during the game, another addition is the map centeres its view on the race you choose. pretty niftay. one trick: if the civi is in between the beacons it picks both races, so the part where u get a 2nd civilian choose the third and final unchosen race. :D cheap but hey i am not mapper maker. First time i actually do triggers and stuff. Its fun! compliments to "glassmazarin"

Although this may be a time consuming idea, it would be awesome if the randomization were actual replicas of start location minerals of popular maps (Katrina, Blue Storm, Python, etc.) and it would also show the map and location of where this setup is :D

naw its pretty easy, there are randomizing triggers, just take a look at maps like Archon tag or whatever. Just gotta put the location squares properly which may take a bit of trial and error at first.
you should advance on this concept, have the same sort of thing but in like 10 different squares, all with different mineral patches from each map (like one island for python, one island for andromeda) etc. trigger to pick which island you want etc.
I dont know how big demand there is (if any), but i made a 2 player map for ppl wanting to compare their skillz with their friends!
The map works the same way, one player is T the other one P, but I had to sacrifice the upper and lower minerals for the ability to see each others splits.
I tried with the screen centering on the CC/Nexus after each round, but the terran player had a hard time watching the toss probes split so I took that away. I will add it to the singleplayer map tho, great suggestion (g2g to work now, but ill fix that later)
I'm thinking of using flags to allow user selected race
like
(for first round) if player commands 1 nexus set flag IS_PROTOSS
if flag IS_PROTOSS is set and minerals = 32 remove all units set mins to 50 create nexus and 4 probes
you could then repeat the same with terran and zerg....I've never tried to remove/place minerals but it should be pretty easy to figure out if its possible.

here you go protoss/zerg/terran in this one.

i am retouching the map, currently all races work perfectly no eggs/larvas for zerg. and you can repick and no extra race control. :D nearly perfected Just gimme ten more minutes. from now

Ok i finally finished it it works sexually, no rehosted to repick your race, you can always rechoose after you have chosen. REPICK by bringing at least 1 unit behind the left mineral line on any of the races platforms.

I started doing that but than realized only very few maps have worth training mineral layout, like longinus (and Faoi ^_^). Almost every map has pretty same and boring start locations with minerals either on your left or on your right with tiny differences. But if you still think idea's worth trying, it's not hard to do at all
On May 05 2008 22:41 ForAdun wrote: Please make this map for Protoss! Probes are the smallest worker unit and therefore the training effect is the best.
This is for those only wanting protoss, for all races I recommend LeGeNdZs[FcG]s map, very nice work I encountered some small problems though, sometimes the minerals were added to late to make the initial scv (but after a couple of rounds the problem went away) and also the zerg base were still there when I changed to toss.. Great move to bring a worker behind the minerals to change race^^
Ok I have fixed the map completely I feel this enough to say it one last time because I said this before and continued to notice more need for changes.
- No zerg units remain upon completion of splits. (When someone completed their splits, the zerg larva/eggs did not reset, this is fixed) - No extra minerals will be left over. (When the current worker being built died due to the resetting of the map, the minerals were returned and added to make an 50 extra on each round, this no longer occurs) - If you decide to repick by moving a unit behind the left mineral line on your platform, the map resets as if your still going to use that platform while creating a civilian so that you can choose another race. This means the old race still remains, to remove it just continue playing, eventually at some point during another race change the platforms will reset again. (Before you could not successfully choose any race at will, and the old one remained permanently) - The map auto-centeres everything, that would be centered during a split. (The map did not center on the mains after resetting, this is fixed) - To choose a new race bring any unit(s) behind the left mineral line of any platform. (Usually the platform that your currently splitting on)
- Here is the map, hopefully one last time. (1)The Splitter.scm - created byglassmazarinre-touched byLegendzS[FcG]
And to think, I spent a whole day learning to split by creating a custom game with a computer, pausing it, putting the speed on fastest, trying in vain to split my workers, and then rinsing and repeating.
Did you guys still want a map with random minerals?
Edit: For anyone who wants to practice with random mineral placement. Just a note that the minerals on the right and left are one matrix further than they should be, due to the unbuildable terrain. The unbuildable terrain is for limiting the zerg creep, which prevented the minerals from spawning.
Race can be chosen at the top. Respawns when number of minerals is a multiple of 8.
Hmm, what if most effective way to split scv? I know drone is clikcing each to its own individual mineral field, and with toss i tihnk its shift deselect because probes are retarded. But what about SCVS?
also maybe make a feautre in the map that lets you pick which race to play as worker wise? And that you can change it mid game to practice splitting with whatever.

for every race you must simply click ur main build a worker, and manually send each worker one by one as fast as you can, its not hard with this map. Actually a funny story i made a fpvod of myself last night, when i watched it about 5 minuntes into the vod, each split was perfect except for when i had to split 6oclock of my main, thats the hardest place to split imo. But there are spots on a mineral line that have more effective split sexyness find them and your gosu! :D
mm with probes, i press "p in the nexus), then i send all to a patch (top), then select 2 and send to 4, then select one (of the two reaching top) and send to second, then i select one (form the two reaching 4 patch), and send to patch 3, then set rally near 5 patch...
its difficult, and many times im just screwed it, but i think that its the better way for split left or right...
for bottom im usually can split in pairs and next split again, and for top, i send all for a middle patch, (automatically split), and then one for one send to different patches.

yes but you're wasting time by pressing = = which you wouldn't do in a real game. oh.. i guess that doesnt matter if you're not going to continue playing the game

If you check the OP, the only SCV Splitting link still works.
Its just that LeGeNdZs[FcG] had created a splitting map where you could select any of the three races. It was just a mod of the original SCV map. This link would be very much appreciated :D:D.
I tried to make a Zerg splitting map by just changing the Terran SCV/Terran CC to Zerg equivalents, but the map doesnt load properly. But if you change it to Probes/Nexus, there is no problem, so you can practise Protoss splits no problems.
I don't think these maps are so useful but it's for the completion of Liquipedia. This one expired as well (http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft/Micro_Training_Maps ). Does anyone still have it?
