Bisu vs Luxury It remains to be seen if Luxury is really in shape or not, as he's had it relatively easy thus far in WCG. ZvZing his way to the semis by crushing Calm and Yarnc shows that his ZvZ is in shape, but much remains to be seen if his ZvP is up to par these days. He faces none other than the best PvZer in the history of Starcraft in Bisu. Bisu comes off an impressive showing in the round of 8, dismantling Flash with some impressive play and micro. I'll take an in shape Bisu winning 2-0 over an "out of shape?" Luxury. But if something drastic happens and Lux manages to win, we can blame it on the maps, cause we all know Bisu will.
Jaedong vs Stork Apparently Stork spends most of his free time these days watching One Piece, playing WoW, and screwing around on other servers off racing while in preparation for WCG. Still, he was able to destroy Fantasy en route to the semis, setting up a match with Jaedong. However, his confidence level is still at an all time low, as he's repetitively said that he wishes zerg would die (So do I Stork, I feel your pain) and be DQed. He faces none other than the top zerg player at the moment, Jaedong. While admittedly Stork won their last encounter and is 5-7 lifetime against Jaedong, I give the Dino little to no shot at taking down an in form Tyrant in a BO3 on some good ZvP maps. 2-1 incoming for JD.
While realistically, I'd like for both Bisu and Jaedong to lose in order to set up a set in which both sides will actually play like it matters, the chances of this happening are slim to none. But if one wins and the other loses, I'm gonna be pissed.

You want them both to lose?! No way dude, then one of them won't get to go to WCG. Once they get there they will probably play each other in a proper match anyway.
I'm just hoping for some GGs, but a Bisu-JD final ftw.

Put away the Protoss/Khan/Stork fanboyism. Everyone knows Jaedong threw that game. Even I'm willing to admit it. And trust me, Storks PvZ is much worse than Jaedongs ZvP. This is quite evident to everyone.

Today is August 28th for me.
I know this begs the question of why I am even asking, but I remember seeing Calender Say 13th for PL, but it didn't play until the next day.
Calendar runs on Korean Time. In Korea, it's August 29th already, while it's only the 28th in the States. If you have any questions about how much time is left till it starts, just go check the calendar for the countdown timer.

Jaedong's worst MU? No. ZvT has been JD's worst MU ever since like early to mid 2008, when he lost his golden touch on the MU (I think during his 2 first starleague victories his ZvT was like 80% or something crazy, wasn't it?)
I'm a huge Stork fan. There's just something awesome about somebody who doesn't give a shit anymore but still plays at the highest level. It's like Shaq circa 2002 during the last of the three Laker championships.
It would even be more awesome if he goes offrace in the actual WCG but still owns the non-Koreans.

Stork beat JD 2-1 in last years WCG, lost 1-2 in the last OSL, and won their last game in PL. Anyone who doesn't think Stork has the ability to at least take a game off JD is underrating Stork, that said JD is in good form and the map pool includes HBR and Outsider... 2-1 either way.

To think that not so long ago HBR was a place where toss owned zerg. When Bisu won vs Jaedong on that map half the people complained about map imba, lol.

I always found WC3 a little cartoony too, but I got used to it after a while. I imagine I'm still pretty good at it... though I thought I was good at SC too :/
The night elf won, he did it cause all he did was build units which could cyclone (think statsis). Red had units that could disenchant the cyclone (the dt-etheral looking units), but the blue's main hero had a single target emp shit so he didn't have enough mana for it.

Cyclone only lasts half as long on heros, therefore you really need to use it on important regular units... hence that 20 second stun or whateverthefuck it is

exactly, they are still balancing it like 7 years later... I know about the Towers thing...
Yes, theres a large luck portion in war3 due to creep item drops. The creeps are always the same, but theres like a pool of items you could potentialy get for certain creep kills. Thats why some creeps get sniped (for the item) and the player runs away after.
On August 29 2009 14:37 lazz wrote: is it just me or is there a lot of luck in terms of creep spawns and items that drop? or is it scripted like you get an item after your 3rd kill etc..
Luck. Though certain creeps only drop certain items based on their difficulty (I think). The whole red/yellow/green thing.

It's actually 10 to 6. -____-
yep. although balancing mirrors isn't exactly hard.. not counting mirrors the addition of another race from 3 to 4 races makes twice as many non-mirror match ups. a nightmare for balance. this is also why wow is so shitty, 10 classes, ughhh..
I dunno, seeing a hero at 100 life running for his life vs the other player trying to surrond can get decently exciting. But yea the whole creep for 10 minutes b4 engaging gets boring. Kinda like tvts

every item belongs to an item class (1-10) every creep on the map has a designated item class which it drops (or it may drop nothing). However, the item classes are STILL not very balanced, for example the experience tome is way better than all the +2-one-stat-tomes that it shares itemclass with.

Defenders advantage is quite a bit higher in War 3 in SC. Units spawn closer like in BW, but buildings in war3 are usually quite usful. Like the bunker supply depots red has.
Still not looking good for Moon ultimately. That TC is like lvl 5 and will 2shot groups of talons. As soon as they engage Moon will need to have hte micro of his life to stand a chance.
Wow, I haven't played any WC3 beyond single player and this is like first time watching, but if I were the Orc guy, I'd nerdrage so hard at that cyclone shit, looks SO ANNOYINg.
Looks like Orc is long distance mining now. By the way the little house is a Pocket Factory, it's a tinker spell that when you cast it it pops up and spawns little robo-goblins that attack for a small amount but when they die (either from expiring like broodlings or from actually getting killed) they explode dealing quite a bit of damage in a small aoe.
The Clockwork Goblins destroy Raiders. They do decent dmg and explode with splash dmg once the get killed. Thats why who always kills the Pocket Factory first.
Moon is doing well in fights but the orc heros are just too strong at this point I think. BM basically one shots talons and the TC is pretty hefty atm .

Moon wins. Pretty sure Who was out of money at the end there, so even tho he had a large adv in hero str, once he lost the TC he knew Moon would be rebuilding his DH with his new expo while he was completely drained. He had to GG.

UD has a lot of problems dealing with Orc in tier 2. In my experience though, if you survive with UD until you can use your tier 3 units and 3 heroes (UD's strengths) you can stomp most Orcs.

not really, link's to our streams/threads get posted on YY and who know where else, so no wonder that theres such amount of viewers.
The reason Lux GG'd is because he went for an all in build with mass lings and then muta followup. The commentator didnt look at the zerg base, but if he did i'll tell u there'll be very poor drone saturation.
On August 29 2009 14:53 alffla wrote: cool lol thanks kona ^__^ lol do wc3 games usually have no expos or wat : (
Humans are almost completely dependent on getting their expo out quickly. They get a handful of Footmen, turn like half their peasants into militia and creep out the gold mine as quick as possible. They rely on masses of tier 1 units and turtling behind obscene amounts of towers until they can get a large number of casters and win the game with sheer numbers. This is because, since they rely on a massing strategy, Humans require more gold/lumber than every other race, sort of like Zerg requiring more gas/minerals than every other race.
An interesting thing about War3 is upkeep management. Because once you hit 50 and 70 food, all resource income you receive is cut (to 70% after 50 food, and then to 40% after 70 food), many players will try to stay at 49 food as long as possible in order to not incur this income. It's not uncommon, once you see players willing to push past the upkeep range, to throw down more unit producing facilities and pumping out units as quick as possible. I know one of Sky's strategies against Orc is to turtle 2/3 bases behind a Sorc/Priest/Breaker army until he has like 4k gold, and then immediately throw down 4 Gryphon Aviaries and mass Gryphon Riders/Dragonhawks until he's at 110 food, and then overrun the Orc by shackling whatever few Bat Riders the orc managed to get.
The reason Lux went in all in is because his expo got delayed really bad and because he got few lings at the start, bisu was able to expo much earlier, therefore he knew he would lose if he played a standard game like going 5 hh.
it was something like 10 hydras against 10+ zealots + 1 dt in main even though there was an ovi at the main. And no there were no lags. Probably your stream. The 4 zealots @ the 2nd expansion did do damage but i can't see if the hatchery went down or not. To be honest i don't think so because there were glings trying to defend the expansion. I think he was just frustrated to not finish the game right after the glings mutas all-in and then just threw the game away by typing gg too quickly. I'd have done the same aswell :o)
Bisu storms right over all his goons trying to get Luxs mutas. Lux sneaks lings in and finishes taking out Bisu's 3rd warping in. Bisu spots Lux taking a 4th at 6 o clock and wipes it out with a ground army of just over a dozen units
Lux has his hive done, and plenty of lurkers at his 3rd defending. Bisu is preventing Lux from taking 6 o clock, although Bisu takes 5 o clock himself.
Bisu hunts down Lux's lings denying Bisu 1 o clock, and brings a probe to start another expo. Lux runs in with a dozen lurkers and some lings to chase off Bisu's army at 6 o clock, but fails and runs back.
2 DTs dropped at Lux's main, killing off a number of probes. Lux brings some units to 11 o clock to try to expo there, but Bisu has units ready to stop him.
Lux brings in a decent amount of lurkerling to the 1 o clock bisu expo with a defiler, and gets off some swarms, although he isn't in a position to push and farther.
Bisu starts killing off the little contain with DTs. Lux didn't bring any ovies.
Lux taking 11 o clock expo now and attacking Bisu's 5 o clock, but Bisu drops reavers and HT to save it from lings + swarm.
I don't know how Lux hasn't GGd yet. he had a better chance of winning the previous game if he stayed in that longer. 2 DTs head to Lux's 11 o clock expo and start killing the hatch. Lux has ~5 ovies heading to Bisu's main full of units to drop

What if they played 3 sets of 1-hour games?
Then it gets delayed. I think Lux vs Bisu was delayed for 14 minutes due to WC3.

The things I can remember are his comments vs Hwasin calling him his "insurance," other behavior during group selection in individual leagues and beating Savior/causing his slump.

So are you saying that people don't like it when players who can actually back it up, trash talk?
I remember when maGma and go.go. trash talked and no one gave a second look about that. In fact, they hyped it up.

well, i won't go into specific examples, but he has made some 'arrogant' comments in interviews. actually i think i might remember a specific interview here, it was either the pre msl or pre gom finals with jangbi interview where he said something along the lines of "i hope jangbi didn't practice too hard, beacause he's going to lose either way". also bisu used to call hwasin his insurance terran. i dunno when that was. uhh, personally, i think ppl also hate him because he has this atmosphere of 'arrogance' about him when ppl see him on tv, it's like some kind of smugness. this might come from ppl never seeing bisu worried or angry. bisu also complains about maps alot of the times when other players dont complain. ppl might also hate him for the fact that he sometimes seems lazy/uncaring, yet wins alot. btw, bisu is my all time favorite player, i still like him even though i really understand when ppl talk about his weaknesses and 'arrogant demanour'.

oh wow, looks like we've started - this is what i get for watching without sound. jd has his maphack turned on, with his scouting ovie going towards 1 in the right direction
On August 29 2009 18:28 GHOSTCLAW wrote: kona's is kind of lagging too, but it's a little better. 9 pool speed for jd, stork showing off some pretty cool harass with the probe
wow. okay, so stork goes 1 base tech, and jd did a 12 hat i'm guessing, or else his tech wouldn't have been so late (these games need to start earlier)
stork moved out with 2 zeal 1 goon 1 sair and then did enough damage to kill off 3 ovies, a few drones, and some hydra. he expanded with 2 cannons at the same time to his nat.
Guess khan is going to try to bring back 1 base tech.
Problem with the dual-view: Getting a big Ad sign covering the bottom right of the screen when I'm in fullscreen. Anyway to get rid of that? Would like to follow the supply and stuff without having to exit it from time to time. Otherwisw a great stream!
jd going for the fast lurker contain, as he already has lurker researched. dual hydra den/spire timing means that stork had to put 2 cannons in his main mineral line to defend from mutas that wern't built.
On August 29 2009 18:34 lazz wrote: i notice korean commentators yell out " HA-NA!!" or something like that whenever a DT slips into the zerg mineral line... what does it mean?
with the fast dual evo and the fast hive, i'm guessing that jd was planning on doing some sort of fast ultra/ling build. it was scouted by stork i think (or guessed at really well) and we'll see if stork can hit the timing to punish it.
eh.. JD better be pulling his "lose 1 game, win the rest" strategy, I want that damn Bisu/Jaedong drops series if they might play against each other in a finals curse broken
And beat him on RoTK in the last OSL as well. JD came back 2-1 then, but he had Tears of Protoss in his corner game 3... Outsider is bad but not that bad, I'm optimistic, come on Storky!
JD wasn't playing that well in the beginning of the game. Mid and Late game his control was decent but what was up with him in the beginning? Perhaps he has alot going through his mind cause of the FA??
I'm a protoss player and a stork fan, and i'm gonna go ahead and say that FA is definitely affecting JD. The first drone death and i knew immediately. I remember in the last interview about the FA decisions jaedong said he wanted to lose and the only reason he fought to win was because of the fans.
heartbreak ridge, looks like stork is on the left in red? orange? something like that, and jd is white. Stork blocks the nat hat placement with a pylon, but otherwise looks like a standard forge first fe, and jd goes overpool
On August 29 2009 18:49 koziol wrote: i think jd has a big change of going to wcg anyway, he will probably win zvz vs lux, but i want to see jd raping Bisu in the finals
Eh? I'd say it's about 50/50 when JD and Bisu are both playing at their very best. JD is understandably not doing so well, at least mentally atm. Going into his series vs kwanro JD wasn't "expecting anything" after all. That's saying something
hmm actually it looks like stork is preparing for a little bit of everything. his first corsair is out, and builds another one with his cannon in his main, has templar tech and robotics facility out as well, all off of only 1 gate.
jd has 6 hat right now, lair tech, and stork chooses to push out
stork's shuttle dropps in 2 dt and 3 zeal but dosen't end up doing much damage as the hydra that were popping from the hatches clean up the harassment nicely
2 evo chambers and a queens nest for jd, stork spots jd's expansion to the mineral only. Stork is now starting his gateway explosion after getting so much tech, and jd has 3 evo chambers now
that was pretty sick timing by stork, as he attacked right before jd was ready, and about 5 seconds before the lings popped from jd's main+nat. not sure if he was planning on it or not, but that looked pretty cool

JD was looking for a cannon break which Stork defended perfectly, moved into midgame without taking any economic damage, JD got greedy and produced drones instead of extra units for his 4th and Stork showed some nice goon micro to run over it. Couple more DTs in the main to finish it.

Stork 1st battalion of dragoons + lot + HT destroy 2 wave of zerg defence. Stork troops remains Unscatter except losing an observer and prolly 3 or 4 unit.

Ah, thanks. Oh well, I'm disappointed in JD but stork is my favourite toss so I have mixed feelings. I hope stork can crush bisu.
Everyone will attribute Jaedong's losses to an excuse, like the FA thing, no one caring about WCG, etc. They made excuses for Savior when he got 3-0'd in the MSL finals, saying that he wasn't trying, or he was tired, and he'll be back in full force to destroy everyone again..
I can see history repeating itself. Jaedong has reached the height of his career, just like Savior, and now we'll see a downfall of the Tyrant, like we saw for the Maestro.

And are you serious that this "FA thing" has absolutely ZERO effect on JD? No stress? It doesn't affect his concentration? It doesn't affect his PRACTICE TIME? That said, stork played amazing.
Savior never got worse. Flash once played against Savior on Iccup, and mistook him for Jaedong. It seems that Savior has always been able to keep up with others in practice, but he began to lose it ON TV. And yes, I know that FA is taking a toll on him, and I have a bad feeling that it'll take a permanent toll on him, regardless of whether or not he gets resigned :l Plus there's the OSL curse that needs to be fulfilled anyways
And to the guy saying what drugs I am on, you'd say the same thing if I said that the Protoss were going to fail hardcore this season, wouldn't you? Pro SC is very brutal, and one small slip can send you down a hard downward spiral. The prospect of Jaedong entering a hard slump is always a very real prospect that shouldn't be ruled out.

btw props to Stork, of course
I never said Savior got worse (Even though he did ). I said everyone just got so much better. I think Savior's mechanics have been roughly the same as when he was a bonjwa but everyone else's just got so much better. Just look at his series vs zero in the beginning of 09. I know zvz was his worse MU but he just could not keep up with zero's micro at all. I think even the announcers pointed that out. As for JD, he has proven time and time again that he is the most resilient player in the world. He will lose 0-3 to forgg in the MSL finals but then 3-0 flash not a week later in another final. He will drop the most important game of the year and a week later, break the OSL curse and win the golden mouse. This is why he's never lost more than 4 games in a row. I think he'll bounce back from this once again, assuming he does continue to play.
Taek-Bang is back. Hell, WCG proved alot of points, its not the maps that have been sucking balls for protoss, but Protoss players sucking balls. Bisu/Stork beat the 2 top terrans and the top Zerg on the same maps used for OSL/MSL, that says a lot. GJ stork on your win, I also hope JD beats lux tomorrow otherwise Ill be dissapointed .
Just watched vods for Stork v Jaedong. I'm surprised Jaedong didn't defend that 1-base thing. I swear Stork does it every single PvZ on ROTK and keeps winning with it. Stork seemed to have gotten lucky in the 2nd game, got the timing just right(I'd say it's skill but Stork never really shows such game sense in PvZ).
How many years have Stork and Bisu been the top protoss? It's like year after year they're still the only tosses on top. Best and Jangbi peaked for a while, only to slump badly afterwards. Kal is just inconsistent. Free is Free. And no other protoss have stepped up.
this time it was JD's turn to blow the JD vs Bisu match ;p some people saying JD threw the games, others saying Stork just was so good, guess i'll have to wait for the VODS to see what was this.
Oh well. Sucks to see but I think JD has enough on his mind to let this one slip. As long as he doesn't lose to Luxury this still works out with the coolest three players going to WCG :D.

Yeah, it's an insane 3 matches but perfect to get respect if he comes out the other side. Stork has always done well against the top players anyway, it's dropping the occasional games to scrubs that makes people rank him below IMO.

Probably the 4 current top players in most peoples eyes and Stork has winning records vs 3, 1 down vs Jaedong.

bisu vs luxury was ok, but JD vs Stork no. Just watch how JD loses his drone in such a VERY simple way even D+ ranked players would have prevented that. Or just watch stork backing like 20 goons against 1 lurk. Yeah right like they wanted to go for the show but not to throw the game so easily. Argh Whatever, the last serie was just SO weird. Like bad weird.
Why can't you admit and credit stork, when stork performing at his best today.
Did i say something to discredit stork ? No. Did i say something to discredit JD ? No. What i'm saying is that they weren't playing the game at all. I'm actually glad stork won, but the game felt somewhat "rigged" see what i mean ? Much like this one WCG world final where a korean lost on purpose to not face against a korean and get all the 3st places.
