RO8: BO3 Format, Fighting Spirit game 1 Loser picks from iCCup map pack (no foreign maps, no LT, no Hunters).
RO4: BO3 Format, Destination game 1 Loser picks from iCCup map pack (no foreign maps, no LT, no Hunters).
Finals: BO5 Format, Fighting Spirit game 1 Loser picks from iCCup map pack (no foreign maps, no LT, no Hunters).
Format
The initial stage of the tournament, running from Sunday February 14th to Friday February 19th, consists of eight individual Qualifier Tournaments. They will be held on the iCCup server and will run as a standard 32-player Single-Elimination Tournament (see details below). Standard iCCup ladder and tournament rules apply, use common sense guys or you will be discluded. Anyone is free to join this as long as they do not have a Korean or Chinese flag on iCCup (I can check IP in suspicious cases) unless you have special consideration (e.g. if tasteless or artosis were to apply of course they would be welcome to). BO1 rounds 1, 2 and 3. BO3 semi-finals. BO5 finals. Loser picks map after first game.
The knockout stage of the tournament will be a 16-player single-elimination tournament, BO3 until the Finals (BO5). The other 8 places in this knockout stage will be taken up by eight invitees. These will be at my discretion and mostly 'first in first served' unless I have you on my MSN and so have contacted you prior. I may tweak the invitees to maximise the benefit to the sponsor.
Dates
The following dates will be used for the knockout stages (see below for the qualifier rounds). Note that if one or more players cannot make it on the day another time during the week must be arranged before the next round.
The Round of 16 Left-hand side of the bracket is tentatively scheduled for Saturday 20th Feb. The Round of 16 Right-hand side of the bracket is tentatively scheduled for Sunday 21st Feb. The Round of 8 is tentatively scheduled for Saturday 27th Feb and may be streamed. The Round of 4 is tentatively scheduled for Saturday 27th Feb and will be streamed. The Grand Final is tentatively scheduled for Sunday 28th Feb and will be streamed.
Participating
To participate in a Qualification Tournament simply sign up on the appropriate page on iCCup.com below and check in at an appropriate time. It will begin as soon as 32 players have checked in so don't leave it to the last minute - turn up at least 30 minutes before the start time.
Just a few rules outside of the general 'no cheating, no bm, turn up on time'.
First of all, replays from the Round of 16 onwards in the knockout stage MUST be emailed to me and not leaked elsewhere. Replays that end up leaked elsewhere may incur disqualification of the player/s involved.

Yes this is correct.
Also note I updated it with the tournament admins who have kindly donated their time to help me out, despite there being no obligation. Of course they added escape clauses giving them the right to nullify their help if the beta is released
iCCup.CoLd and hosted by iCCup.xtS will be helping out so be sure to thank them if you see them around.
The following players have a confirmed spot in a qualifier, so can you please PM or reply here with which qualifier you would like to book your place in and I will do my best to ensure your place:
Also send me a PM if you would like to stream or commentate this and have previous examples of your streaming/commentating (e.g. cite any events) that I can check.
Note that I want someone who does not have a beta key so that there is no chance of them pulling out once beta is released You would have to be free on the weekend of the 6th/7th March and maybe also for the Ro8 and I need an American and a European streamer/caster to cover all the games properly.
There's only like 1-2 invite spots left unless one of the people I have asked pulls out for some reason, so get your name in fast if you are a well-known foreign gosu looking to claim a beta key
ok confirm me for the quali i use [Pan]KabaL on iccup, anyhow i already registed for the first quali ;p dunno wat the purpose of pming or posting here is
TT1 you can sign up as normal for all the qualifiers but how we'll do it is the overseeing admin will have some dummy accounts signed up to replace with you in case you miss out.
Once the guaranteed spots are filled they will remove the dummy accounts and others can fill the remaining places.
I assume you all know how iCCup tourneys work, but if you don't you sign up but also you can CHECK IN on the tournament page up to an hour earlier than the start of the tourney. You must CHECK IN to actually be included on the tournament grid when it is created.
So knowing that, what a guaranteed spot means is that the admin will have a second account on the grid, and can replace it with you in case you did not get in the tournament.

Considering your Starcraft accomplishments and recognition in the community, I'm certain that you could get a beta key from Blizzard if you asked the right person. Same goes for any top foreigners. Blizzard wants all the best people they can get to test 1v1 balance, but the community team responsible for handing out keys probably doesn't follow the scene and doesn't know who you are.
deL: I may be able to help with commentary, though it would probably be best for me to commentate with someone who has a stream/knows how best to commentate on one.

This seems harsh, even if it is 80$ in USD, wowww
Yah welcome to Australia -.- $90 even seems quite cheap unless games have gone down in price since last I purchased one.

Fo sho, you were good last time. If we have someone to play in this timezone it'd be great to have you as a co-commentator.
On February 13 2010 10:31 LaLuSh wrote: Any policy against playing if you already have a key? I'm pretty sure some of the big names signed up have keys and are infact playing for friends.
If there's any issue with this let me know and I won't sign up...
No way to prove it so I don't see a problem with it. The more the merrier - just attend one of the qualifier tourneys are see how you go.
I want to have 1-2 more invites, preferably European by about midnight CET. If you know a top, well-known foreign European player who wants a beta key get them in contact with me or show them this thread.
Wow more signups than I thought for America - be sure to get in early to check in and secure your spot, as no one really replied about securing their spot and it's too much work so just make sure you check in at least 30mins early.
On February 13 2010 14:38 QuickStriker wrote: Can I sign up as well?? If I can fix my laptop/desktop by next week or so, I can also stream + cast in the future! ^_^
Actually pretty good for USA-based streamers, have access to at least 2 or 3 already it's the European ones that are hard to find!
But sure just enter as many of the qualifier tourneys linked above as you think you can make and give it a go!
On February 13 2010 14:06 iamtt1 wrote: is 6pm PST 9pm EST?
Pretty sure it is, and yes a quick online converter confirms.
Are you giving a direct entry to inc and lzgamer but not TT1?
Yes, but only because they applied first and then all the American places were taken He should be able to qualify, I was watching his stream today and was suitably impressed :D

as long as theres a way or penalty to prevent them from checking in then let them sign up!

You asked if you can sign up for any that you want. I responded in the affirmative.
The games will not be broadcast - casting starts from the Ro8 - but replays will be made available on starcraft2.com.au
The players will get in contact with their opponent and can arrange a time to play, there is no set time to play in the Ro16. In the Ro8 there will be meetup times both in Europe and USA timezones.
Ro16 Matches
Round #1 - Saturday 20th February Can be played earlier on request if your opponent is known. To be completed no later than Sunday 21st if you are required to pp.
On February 14 2010 19:08 MorroW wrote: aha ye that makes sense, why did u invite a bunch of noobs? :p
Yah I wanted to give all 8 invites to MorroW but he did not reply fast enough
Nah it was first-in gets the spot. Give some lesser known players a chance, not make it too one-sided in any games, and have some well-known guys there. Also a good mix of Europe/Americaas/Australasia.
On February 14 2010 20:00 MorroW wrote: haha im just kidding, just surprised the ret and idra gang didnt get invite
IdrA is korean he prob get a key somewhere else.
Ret I asked he was going to play to get a key for his brother but then decided that he will be too busy playing SC2 beta to do that LOL
FIRST QUALIFIER OVER! eX-v1o)MorroW wins and will face countryman Shauni in the Ro16.
Also, updates to the Qualifier tournaments:
They are expanded to 64 players because of so much interest. The map order will be changed so that the final BO5 map will ALSO be played as BO1 in the first round, so that for the Europe 1 and Americas 1 tourneys:
He took out Enivid and Kolll who I figured were the two favorites. Also nice to see temujin playing, haven't seen his name in a while. Lost in 3rd round even after having a huge advantage yessss.
iCCup.CoLd might not have answers for questions about the tournament but he is the head tourney admin so anything he rules as far as the tournament goes he has authority - anything regarding this particular competition you have to PM me and I can get back to you after work.
Naw it's hard playing vs Random you rarely get to practice it You did well to make finals in such a big tourney with some decently big names.
BTW I will also make a small bracket contest for this guys, if you guess closest to the correct bracket (template provided upon completion of the Qualifiers) and submit it in the appropriate section on the starcraft2.com.au forums, you can win a nerdy shirt from ipwnfashion.com

Yah if half of them were like 24hrs earlier PMing me to participate there were heaps that could have received a direct invite o_o At least it makes the tourneys a lot of fun and pretty intense. With limited spots and tournaments having both ret and kolll as well as a couple other top-notch foreigners just who can get the spots is as fun as watching the knockout rounds xD
On February 16 2010 08:23 {88}iNcontroL wrote: k well help me get in touch with target, I don't log on useast sserver so I never see him
I gave him your MSN he said he'd like 1-2 days of practice and then he's good to go. Let me know if you need anything else or he doesn't contact you and remember to tell me time of your games and send reps gl hf

OMG no making reps public yet -.- email them to me. And I'd prefer if you didn't spoil, you can tell close friends or teammates etc. if you don't think they will spread the word but email replays to me. Lucky it was ZvZ so no one will download it anyway

Please note change of dates on here - Ro8, Ro4 and the Finals will now be held on the same weekend to get the beta to you ASAP - and guys I still need to confirm some streamers/commentators so if you're interested and are free this weekend and next drop me a PM.
I'm finally playing well again (spent a few hours earlier raping icc) but I'm out all night. Sucks. Still, I'd not have much chance in the final tournament anyway.
LzGaMeR's computer broke so I have a spare place for an invite. I asked Lz if he'd still play on his laptop but he thinks it's pointless as he'd just get rolled so the place is up for grabs.
I am not sure how to assign the place yet, whether it be someone who impresses me in one of the qualifiers or what. One idea is that someone currently with a beta key and ability to record could make an exclusive replay of 2-3 of their games for upload on starcraft2.com.au and then they get to choose who participates in the tourney
I would like to give it to someone who does this as it would be cool for the sponsor but it would mean that someone already playing beta might get a key. What do you think of the idea that they get to nominate anyone they want to participate, as long as that person agrees? n_n
I don't know how I feel about people who went to blizzcon, and we can assume, got keys, playing in this tournament. It doesn't say that's against the rules and I guess you could sell it but, in my eyes at least, that seems to go against the spirit of the tournament. Maybe I'm overreacting.

Sure but it's hard to prove and in the end I want a good tournament and starcraft2.com.au wants to be a top sc2 site for australians. If it was a charity event where we give a key to a shitty player I'd ask for it myself.

actually my only chance of getting this beta is to either buy it off a friend or win this tournament. frankly i doubt i would even play it if i had it lol xD

If you told me earlier you could have easily replaced Lz / Enivid, but it's too late now. Plus more people would complain about favouring USA players for some reason xD
I'll admit that Shauni's pretty good at abusing with Protoss and doing stupid shit that somehow works. It's quite impressive that he's progressed so far. But if he goes any further, Idra will completely annihilate him without a doubt.

Eh, unless he's completely changed his style recently what you're saying is wrong. Shauni is known for his sharp mechanics and excellent multitasking abilities, both of which don't really factor in when doing all-in 'cheesy' builds.

I´ve seen shauni beat idrA before "doing stupid shit that somehow works"... I hope he owns both you and idrA.
