Ladies and Gentlemen, the Euro 2013 Winter games have arrived. The stage is set, all that remains are the players and fans. This winter, we will be providing you with non-stop Starcraft: Brood War action as we tour the globe seeking out each Nation's finest Starcraft players. This tournament is the first of it's kind since World Cyber Games itself. Also, boasting the second highest recorded prize in foreign Brood War history, it is sure to be a spectacle of special magnificence.
November 10th, 2012
The great battle begins as gladiators from Europe and the Americas take their swing at being crowned the top of their respective regions. Over the next six months, these players will practice and compete to be the very best they possibly can be and win their local title. Winning a local title guarantees your spot at the grand finals and a solid chance at winning the grand prize of $18000.
The Grand Finals will hold both a Nation War and an Individual event, in total, on April 14th, a total of $35000 will be distributed. The location is Prague, Czech Republic, and the full event's duration will be of 3 days. Fox.EleGanT will be the official caster for the event with potentially a special and very secret co-caster.
A theater will be allocated to accommodate any and all Brood War fans to watch as this spectacle unfolds. Admission to the theater where the games will be broadcast by Fox.EleGanT will be upon reservation. You may also enter at the door, however, you will not be guaranteed a seat if so. Entry is free, donations are recommended but not required. Live participating players will play in front of the main screen.
Other Non-Korean countries may part take as long as they can provide their own transport and win a qualifier.
Albania Austria Belgium Belarus Bosnia and Herzegovina Bulgaria Canada (individual only) Croatia Czech Republic Denmark Estonia Finland France Germany Greece Hungary Ireland Italy Latvia Lithuania Macedonia Mexico Moldova Monaco Netherlands Norway Poland Portugal Romania Russia Serbia Slovakia Slovenia South America (individual only) Spain Sweden Switzerland Ukraine United Kingdom United States (individual only)
National Teams The 2013 European Winter Championships will include a Nation War component. Which will amount to $4000 of the total prize fund. National Teams will compete against neighboring nations for the chance to win one of the four spots on the Main stage event. If a Nation forms more than one team, the teams will be set against each other in the qualifier and only one will be allowed to advance.
National teams are required to sign up before November 3rd 2012 in order to be considered eligible. National teams will be comprised of four players and one spare. The resulting format will be Best of five 5 withe each match being Best of 3 and the last match will be considered an ace At the Grand Finals, it will be Best of 5 Best of 5s with the last match being an ace.
Sign ups for National Event: Euro2013NW@gmail.com
1st: $2500 2nd: $1000 3rd: $400 4th: $100
Individual Event The Individual event is the main focus of this spectacle, players who sign up must now compete against their country's folk to gather a spot for themselves in the Grand Final. The top qualifications will receive fully inclusive trips to the Grand Final, that is 16 players will advance to the Main Stage free of charge. Other qualifying players may partake at the main event, however, they will be required to pay for their travel, food, accommodation and seat.
The qualifications will be a combination of LAN and online venues which will proceed in double elimination style brackets. The higher placing the player, the more elo gained. The elo will be added from each event which the player attends with the lowest elo scores being knocked off progressively if needed (due to overwhelming player counts).
The amount of players which are eligible to receive the free pass to the finals per country will be determined on November 10th, 2012. The exact number will be determined based on sign ups.
For the qualifiers themselves, the league will provide a base amount per country, however, players and volunteers may send proposals to the league that would associate their events to the league if it is approved.
Player sign ups are accepted through up till November 10th. Players must sign up using: Name/country/race/Primary ID/IP address/list of aka/replay pack of at least 15 each match up Players attending the Grand Finals must present the following: 2 pieces of Identification (at least one photo ID) and a criminal record check (may be provided by your local police department for minimal charge which will be reimbursed)
Top Qualifiers receive - Free Transport - Free 4-5 Star Accommodation - Free Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner - Free Gaming Seat

For extreme circumstances, if you were able to guarantee your arrival at the final venue if you were to qualify, you would potentially be able to play in the "rest of europe" qualifiers which will be made for countries that don't have enough players to support their own events. These would all be online.

so If i play in the "rest of europe" qualifiers and make it through, do i have to pay my own way for flights/accomodations etc still? What im saying is what options do north american players have..besides the biased volunteer fund thing.

If you make it through, you'd only have to pay transport (minus the cost of transport within europe).
Just curious, Semih is not on favourite North American? (Also why is it only NA players, what about the south americans, they will finally have a chance to play on LAN without lag!!)
edit: Time to take overseas schooling, anyone want a roomate :D?

1) Semih is banned from Teamliquid due to his LAN history. 2) EywaSC organization is originally based in USA/Canada according to the thread which was posted a little while back. 3) I think there is a far higher chance of USA/Canada supporters in terms of finance than there are of South Americans (not to offend, simply from observation).
amazing and whats even more amazing is that I was actually planning to travel Europe anyway - hopefully dates will work out for me so I can at least attend to this event if i don't qualify
Man s2glow if you let south Koreans in this league, it will end up being 16 afreeca BJs like Mong, hiya, anytime, sky, savior, eagle, chulgu, force[name],larva and many other BJs in the Ro 16... I don want that to happen in foreign bw tournament.

I'll be brutally honest, I'd rather see 16 Afreeca BJ's play than foreigners. Provides such a higher level of competition.
So in addition to boasting a gigantic prizepool, you claim that you can also provide free transport/accommodations to all the European participants, and yet there is no listed sponsor?
Forgive me for being skeptical, but this seems..... sketchy.
I read it like three times now and I still have not figured out how this is supposed to work, who pays what or anything. What. Also, there is a lot of demands for a lot of very, very personal information. Why would you need that? This looks fishy to say the least.

Should be smart and find out where this "18,000 dollars" is coming from first.
OK. I've woken up and read it again, but I still don't understand it very well.
You list 2 dates, November 10th and April 12-14. But the first one isn't actually a date of the tournament, it's the starting date of (a number of?) qualifiers. How many people qualify? Can everyone join the qualifiers? Elegant is going to be in Prague to cast and there's a theatre room where people can watch? How many? Do we need to buy a ticket?
"Qualifiers" starts out with admitted countries. But Canadia isn't in there yet Dragon can play? OK so, at the main event in Prague there will be 2 tournaments. One individual and one for teams. And it's one team per country and 4 teams can qualify who then get to travel to Prague to play this tournament?
So there's an individual event too. You can qualify for this by gathering points throughout a series of qualifiers. But you only play against your countrymen. And then 16 players qualify? So does that mean there will be qualifiers per nation. So the one kid playing Starcraft in Andorra would get points easily while Germany also gets to send only one player? What does "will be dependent on the overall participation of the top players in that country as well as their skill level" mean. Does that, mean that if you're the only one playing in Andorra you have a lower chance of qualifying (no matter how good you are? Also why call it elo when it's points. They're different things.
Oh wait. So the national qualifiers are not organised by you, but by volunteers from that nation. They have to set things up themselves, contact you, get approved, and then run it themselves? "Player sign ups are accepted through till it is judged impossible for a newly registered player to qualify due to point advancement." I don't understand this sentence.
So okay. An unidentified number of players can qualify per nation, dependent on the skill and showing of that nation as judged by unidentified standards, and 16 of them in total get a paid trip to Prague. But wait, other players can go too without winning a trip through qualification first. How many of them?
I'm terribly sorry to have to say this, and I truly hope this is just be being stupid, but the OP is very hard to make sense of.

Then this quite unprofessional. If you're not involved direclty, you got no idea whatsoever how things work, which date is for what, no standalone page, no adresses and a lot of information that should be submitted without any kind of reassurance. What comes next - social security numbers, adresses, clear names? Sorry, but this is not how you should start such a major event. :/
Holy shiet, if this turns out to be totally legit this is the best news for BW i've heard in months. LAN event will finally give faces to all the current foreign BW players and grow the scene and give people to cheer for again. People in the area need to go and support this tournament!

No. You need to find a volunteer in Germany who will run a series of qualifier tournaments that have to be approved by the main organisation first then sign up for those and earn points and even then it's still a matter of who else signs up cause if you're the only German playing then the organisation can still say "well germany had a piss poor showing let's not have them send out people" That's what I understand anyway.
wouldn't it make sense to put some cash prize in the qualifiers if you have such a big prize pool anyways? something similar to team liquid star league 4 qualifiers.

It doesn't seem like much, however, this would take a big toll in the long run. It was evaluated in terms of priority and cost. In the end, it was given a very low priority with a very high cost = doesn't get done.

This information is inaccurate, it is indicated in thread that there will be a base count of qualifiers provided by the league, however, if the players and local fans want to see more, they may create proposals to host events attached to the league.
The only two options available for assigning player per country qualifications of the 16 were statically or dynamically. Either way, I'm selecting how many from each country make it, however, one is based on the players and their performance, the success of their games and the other is simply based on events that took place 1/2 a year ago... I chose the first, which inevitably, leaves some grey area, however, I think it's better in terms of tournament quality. I already had assigned static entries before switching to this, so I have a good idea to what's going to happen, but I want to allow each country an even shot at getting the top rated.
Also, given other concerns of the sort, small countries with few top players will be united into one group called "rest of Europe". Standalone countries are pretty well already determined, they are Poland, Germany, Hungary, Russia. A few others may join these, however, I kind of doubt there will be an abundance of them... If too many are considered "rest of europe", they will be sectioned into east/west/north/south.
What made you decide to host this in Europe as opposed to Canada/US?
Can any North American player participate, win a qualifier, and get an all inclusive trip to the finals or only those listed in the poll in the original post?
i asked my mother about this today. cuz we never go police. and she was hurry why i have to ask for this .. criminal record check (may be provided by your local police department for minimal charge which will be reimbursed) and also can someone explain me how do this ?? i go police and whats ?

November 10th is the day qualifiers will start, April dates are the Main Stage. I know this is a long time for qualifiers, however, there are many things that go into these and I can't be managing 5-10 tournaments on a single weekend.
The tickets are by reservation (hence the ballpark number of seats which will be in the cinema rounded up to their next biggest room). Donations are asked for, but not required. There is no entry fee per say.
It's dynamic, however, there is a good idea of how many will qualify per country, it will be announced in more detail once the bulk of sign ups are in by November 10th.
People may associate their events with the league if approved, it is not required.
There will be a series organized by me, but it's always best if there's more added by the community.
Correct, we will allocate that number based on number of sections of qualifications, currently we were looking at 6 different "areas" which would equate to about 5 possible attendances per area, however, this is not statically assigned yet due to the fact that we have never run something quite like this before, so there is always the possibility of an overload of players in which case we had best not have a set amount promised before we hold the cards in our hands. That will be determined 100% before the first qualifier.

how much of your business plan is based on things happening in the best way possible?
for example, you have repeatedly stated that "donations are optional but not required". so much so that i, and surely others in the thread, am beginning to question whether you have truly secured all the funding. if there was a total of $0 donated, to what extent would the event (and the prize pool) be affected? to what extent will the funding of logistics be affected? how reliant is the tournament on donations being made? if you aren't reliant on donations being made and the prize pool isn't effected, what will the donations be used for?
what does the worst-case scenario in terms of participation look like? you stated that you will organize some qualifier rounds but are also banking on community organizers running numerous tournaments on your behalf. in the event that zero voluntary qualifiers happen, how would the choosing of players and qualifications be effected? how will the policies of these volunteer qualifiers be handled? will there be a standardized set of rules or is it just up to the people running the show for you?
you have a donation link to "send NA player to Euro 2013" with what seems to be an arbitrary goal ($4000). Is $4000 enough to truly fund NA players' trips to the finals? What happens if you only hit $3000 in donation? Why didn't you reduce the prize pool by $4000 and make it a more international (NA + EU) tournament with access to a larger pool of quality players?
thanks in advance for your abundantly coherent and clear-cut answers.

Is it really so strange that people might question how you guys got the funds, and be a little suspicious of the whole event?
I'm not taking sides here, just putting things in perspective.
Even though that event was shown to be legit after all (somewhat), there was a lot of speculation about the integrity of the guy, for a 700 dollar prize pool. This event is many times greater in scope and prizepool. You should expect a little skepticism.

It's really not that. People are skeptical because this goes several levels beyond "too good to be true". Eywa's name may encourage people to be more vocal with their concerns, but the root cause of it is that this is just so much bigger than anything we have seen in a while that it is hard to imagine that it could be put together without prominent corporate support (and even then it would still fall under the category of "too good to be true").

Has he explained to you how this works? Why is a Canadian sponsoring an event in Europe with 18,000$ he just got from "somewhere"?
Unless you know, why would you stake your reputation on Eywa?
'
I will stake my name and reputation on Eywa because I know for a fact this thing is happening. the logistics aren't 100% finalized yet but we will have this be one of the most epic tournaments outside of korea.
you're staking your "reputation" on this with the OP already lying to people?
i asked (and others), how this is being funded. why are you dodging this question?
"reputation". Nice. Thanks, I was just trying to reassure people, because believe it or not, I may have actually been consulted about this before it was released publicly. Yes, I did know what was going on when I said it, I'm not some overtrusting moron running around putting my neck out for scammers.

No I'm just saying I find it pretty convenient how some of the people are the same people who have bad mouthed about eywa before.
But This is also taken as a corporation enterprise. EywaSC wasn't just something we thought up of out of thin air, we've worked long and hard to create it and the image of what it's going to eventually be.

It doesn't seem like much, however, this would take a big toll in the long run. It was evaluated in terms of priority and cost. In the end, it was given a very low priority with a very high cost = doesn't get done.
you have eight $100 prizes, why not use this instead for qualifiers? people can use their qualifier winnings to help fund their travel to prague in april.
for example, just a quick search on air canada i found out that the cheapest round trip (fly there and back) from a big city such as toronto to prague costs $409 total (base fare $99, fuel surcharge $208, taxes $102), if i were to buy my ticket today for a april 2013 flight.
if you were to make it so that only winners of each qualifier gets cash prizes, then even $50 would help slightly to cover the travel cost. if you made it so that winners of each qualifier gets $100 then that's nearly 25% of the travel cost covered already.
i'm pretty sure that if your mini tournament qualifiers had some cash prizes it would attract more viewers and give you more credibility early on.
btw i'm not saying you're bullshitting and i don't know much about you to have that kind of opinion. just speaking what's on my mind.
also have a set amount of qualifiers like 10 for europe and 5 for north america so that you don't end up spending too much on qualifier cash prizes.

To be honest, the name(s) on the topic is the ONLY thing causing me to have any hope at all that this is legit, since Ewya is one of the biggest foreign BW tournament organizers. It's the lack of information combined with the "way-too-good-to-be-true" prizepool that make me question it. I don't believe (and I don't speak for everyone, but I don't think most people believe) that there is any malicious intent or scam behind this tournament, but I fear this is a case of overambition which will fail when the amount of money ends up being less than promised.

I'm going to be honest - if organized a huge international tournament with a prize pool larger than both TSL, TSL2, ISL, KISL2, and ISL3 combined, I would want to earn a bit of money for that amount of work. I can't imagine Eywa going "Nope! It's non-profit! I'm totally doing all this for free."
I voiced some concerns of mine in the original post about the business venture and handling other people's money. There should be, in my opinion, accountability for finances if the venture is truly non-profit. I asked: 1. If this company is not registered as a non-profit organization officially, there is no guarantee that any donations/revenues will be handled in an appropriate, ethical, or legal manner.
2. James Cameron's Avatar is the intellectual property of 20th Century Fox, and therefore, if you want to register this company as a "non-profit organization", there is the litigious matter of the use of the word "Eywa".
3. Incorporated, defintion:[ (Business / Commerce) organized as a legal corporation, esp in commerce Abbreviation Inc, inc.] A corporation is not a non-profit venture. There is an entity called a "non-profit corporation", but technically, it is able to produce profit for the owners. Stating that the business is "not for profit" and then pocketing any of the capital earned by the organization would be total bullshit.
4. If the organization is based in the US, have fun reading this. There are a lot of rules for a non-profit organization to follow. I can almost assume that EywaSC Inc will state that the organization will not be officially registered. If that's the case, how will there be any accountability? Will EywaSC Inc release publicly it's records of expenditures and revenue in very specific terms?
None of my questions were answered. The only thing that changed was that Eywa dropped the "Inc" from the name, and began referring to the enterprise as EywaSC Non-Profit. I sent Eywa- a PM on TL that read:
"Hi.
First of all, I'd like to say that I'm not against you doing a big StarCraft event. I think that's great. However, I have some questions about this venture.
- Is your organization registered as a non-profit organization in the United States or Canada? If so, will you be releasing financial information regarding all income and expenditures?
- How are you raising 30,000 dollars for a StarCraft: BroodWar event when most SC2 events, and prior TSL events, and all prior ISL events have fallen far short of the enormous prize pool you are proposing?
Basically, where is the money coming from?
Regards,

I'm not bashing the event or Eywa. I want good things for BroodWar, even if I don't see eye-to-eye with everyone involved on completely different issues. That's not the issue. Everything I've said thus far boils down to two questions: Where is this money coming from, and secondly, is this venture LEGALLY a non-profit organization or just one in name?

The non-profit is not yet registered, however, I can guarantee that it will be for more reasons than you have listed in your post.
I don't take commission on any events, nor do I plan on it. Brood War has forever been a hobby and will be nothing more. I can more than cover myself financially, quite frankly taking profit from BW events would be insignificant.
Following some discussions, Euro Winter will be open to the Americas for Individual league qualifications, however, the main stage location will not be changed and Nation War teams from the Americas will have to pay their own way (potentially with their winnings) if they qualify.
Paid QFs per - Location - Total QFs 1 - Canada / Latin America - 3 2 - Hungary - 4 2 - Germany - 4 1 - Nordic - 2 3 - Poland - 5 3 - Russia - 5 2 - United States - 4 3 - Rest Of Europe - 5
*Please note, this is a ballpark tool and it is likely to be changed, This is an ESTIMATE of how many people will be covered for the Grand Finals. Also, given the addition of the Americas, likely there will be room for a couple extra inclusive Qualifications over 16.
This would be wonderful if it is true, a true blessing to the community..but I am honestly going to say that I find this very hard to believe...Hope it happens though, would be amazing. If this doesn't happen though, I think it is going to be bad for the community, if this is hyped and people get they're hopes up, then it could bring disaster to the BW foreign community...Hope this happens guys, gl hf gg.

This is the big question which everyone has been asking. The money has come from a series of fundraising events which have been conducted by myself while the product being produced by NoisE and venues located by EleGanT. Hence, NoisE being put first in the sponsorship crew, he's worked the hardest to make the money to be honest.
So, is NoisE allowed to talk about these fund-raising events? Because he was quite reticent about the subject and deferred to you for providing information regarding the funds involved.

My message is simply that whatever you may think, Eywa is not trying to scam anyone, or operate this for personal gain. I just know this because I know Eywa. Also I'm the commentator. That is all.

It's not a public venture. What is donated by my company is entirely up to myself, I chose to invest this in BW and that's all that's required for you to know. A donation which is deemed impossible does not merit the internal investigation of a private enterprise. We expanded a section specifically to fit the BW fundraising needs. This also accounts for the question if I'm getting anything out of this, my business is funding it... So, short answer, I'm getting -$X out of this.

I don't take commission on any events, nor do I plan on it. Brood War has forever been a hobby and will be nothing more. I can more than cover myself financially, quite frankly taking profit from BW events would be insignificant.
So the company isn't listed as a non-profit organization.

The organization is not listed because I've practically been living out of my car for the past few weeks with the abundance of work related travel.
As for the money,
On July 19 2012 06:25 Antoine wrote: Cool! Where's the money coming from?
This is the big question which everyone has been asking. The money has come from a series of fundraising events which have been conducted by myself while the product being produced by NoisE and venues located by EleGanT. Hence, NoisE being put first in the sponsorship crew, he's worked the hardest to make the money to be honest.
So, is NoisE allowed to talk about these fund-raising events? Because he was quite reticent about the subject and deferred to you for providing information regarding the funds involved.
So, what you're saying is "Nobody needs to know where the money is coming from."?
Because if that's the case, then it seems disingenuous to present your business venture as "non-profit" while simultaneously refusing to disclose your financial information. To simply say "Trust me, I'm losing money" doesn't really give people much confidence, to say the least.
The money has been gathered through a team effort of purchasing and manufacturing product, organizing and packaging said product and redistributing it for sale at a local level. So the funding comes from the efforts of myself, Eywa and Elegant. We are no saying you don't need to know where the money is coming from, we are just withholding information for our fundraising benefits (ie if we raised this kind of money with it what's stopping TL users from repeating and reducing the "profit" margin[I use profit loosely here because the fund go back toward more product or into tournament funding]).
well i have to say thank you guys for making this you are awesome :D, and i think that you have to give them time to explain everything in a deeper way. a lot of criticism won't help so much for now.
i'm amazed how much you must love broodwar to spend so many time, effort and $$ to make this

Don't take this as offense, but this still raises more questions than it answers. Why did you start this thread just right now with only some bits of info instead of preparing a big launch? I'm sure if you would provide full information at the start, you'd have less questions to answer and a lot bigger and hopefully deserved positive feedback. It's not like I desperately hope this would not happen, but this is just... :/

I'm trying to stay out of this and remain cautiously optimistic but this is too absurd. This paragraph sounds like Requiem for a Dream and Breaking Bad rolled into one, how is anyone supposed to read that and think you're not selling drugs? That line at the end about how you can't reveal it only cements it, this explanation feels so unbelievably shady.

I'm a bit confused, is it fundraising or some sort of product sales making the money to fund this event?
If these fundraisers have occurred I feel like TL would know since this would likely be a good source of potential donations (though right now, I doubt it'd be successful unless TL backed it as being sketch-free, and even then..) Basically, there must be some record of the fundraising if it's already started right?

His motives are good, and he is not trying to pull anything strange here, rest assured. I would put my name on that at the very least.
Just to make this clear, as my post has seemingly raised question marks to some about my thoughts+role in this-
My message is simply that whatever you may think, Eywa is not trying to scam anyone, or operate this for personal gain. I just know this because I know Eywa. Also I'm the commentator. That is all.
Regards,

Latin America has no players who made it past the ISL3 group stage. The United States had 2 of the top 5 from ISL3 and were the runner ups for Altitude Nation Wars. Canada didn't have a showing at all in Nation Wars and often complained they didn't have enough players to make up a team of 6.
This is the reasons why Canada is merged with Latin America, Latin America's best player didn't even make it out of ISL groups and Canada's players are some of the worse in terms of commitment to an event. Neither of these areas have a higher overall skill than the United States.
Simply put, by logical association, if a nation can't put a team of 6 together, they definitely don't have enough for an entire tournament dedicated to them.

The point about the non-profit is moot because it goes through my books before entering the non-profit anyway because technically, I'm donating the money for this, therefore, there is no sense in me cutting how much the event receives or taking a "cut" because I'm the only donation... How can I take a cut out of my own donation? It doesn't make sense.
As for additional volunteers for writing, I know the information is not all straight forward and point form, it was never intended to be. This is simply an announcement thread, I expected sign ups to gauge a little more before working out all the specifics, it is a while from now after all. And as for finding volunteers to do it, I've tried. The simplest tasks would be delegated and I'd get a response a week later saying "don't feel like doing it any more". It's really much harder than you seem to think. Running high class tournaments is not all straight forward.

You have the wrong idea, this takes countless hours, without a volunteer squad, by the time you'd be done paying salaries you'd have next to nothing left. People donated their time to this.

o_o, I don't quite understand what you mean, generally people here have 3-4 forms of identification if not more. Student pass isn't very reliable, but may be accepted in some cases. Drivers license/passport pictures are obviously the best for legitimacy.

In Germany you only have to have your ID. Divers license and passport at the same time are not that neccessary if you don't plan to leave the European Union in most cases.
I'm wondering if you're even allowed to ask for such kind of information in the open as private person. I also seemed to have missed your remarks about the police records: almost no employer in Germany is allowed to ask for documents like this. The first and foremost purpose of these records is not to provide private companies with information, but to help the justice system. In many cases you are even allowed to lie about criminal history in application/interviews. That is, if those don't have influence on your actual position later - if you're gonna be a teacher or custodian to handicapped people, you will need a clean record and a forced to answer/hand out info; doesn't matter in most other other jobs though. Brings me back to the question: WHY?
You clearly won't employ people. This smells rotten.
personally I don't have a driver's license (no money/need for it) and as Gecko said, a passport isn't required within the EU, i don't even know where I have mine, I think the last time it was used was like 10 years ago anyway. All I have is my ID and my bank/insurance cards and my student ID
i just remembered, the insurance cards also have pictures since last year anyway.
So many people have asked and I've yet to see this question answered, what is the point of the criminal background check? It's not like they do a criminal background check at any other tournament like MLG, WCG, DreamHack, ect...Care to elaborate? What if you had misdemeanor ? What if you had felony's ? Can't play? -.-;;

Yeah, it's kind of unfair. People like me with an extensive police record for various criminal activities are being discriminated against. I mean, I gave up my gangster ways, what with sling rock and doing drive-bys to smoke putos from the 88th Street Gang who be all up in our click.
for the paid qualifiers, are you going to pay the winning players at the end of each qualifier in cash or are you just promising that you'll pay for their trip to prague?

Ah, that's understandable. Special circumstances will be made in these cases. Let me know in an e-mail what you can provide if this applies to you.

When I talk about criminal record checks and say employers require it, that is from my experience in Canada. These things aren't really hard to get for most people, realistically, everyone's should say the same thing. And, indeed, you can ask for any info you want, others have the right to refuse. Though I think laws say that you can't demand someone's social insurance/security number (at least in canada) and deny them if they don't provide it.
It makes even less sense if you ask for something you assume to know already. Why dodge all these questions? Just make one post and sum them up instead of doing one post after the other.

It does make sense, because exceptions need to be excluded, there's nothing more important on my priority list of a LAN that everyone is safe when they go there.
I'm not dodging, I will continue to answer every question no matter how important or unimportant.
I will compile FAQ once I have time, however, that doesn't make end to questions, there are always more questions people will ask, thus, the point you make is moot.

He only assassinates the competition. But not literally. He'll just walk through the door of the tournament, and say "Sorry guys I'm late, I was at a ceremony receiving the key to the city of Budapest from the Mayor, but now that I'm here, do you all want to play, or can I just have my 18,000 dollars right now?"

If I understand it correctly, people can organise their own qualifiers right? So people could organise seperate CA / SA qualifiers while the point system remains shared. That would be a solution no?
Also is there any deadline for announcing community-organised qualifiers? Let's say someone runs 5 Swedish qualifiers and Player A is well ahead in points and thinks he's qualified. Then last minute someone else organises 5 more qualifiers and people overtake him last minute.
I also thought a little bit about this problem. The solution might be to select some ppl (from that nation) to organise the national tours. Those 'admins' would have to send to Eywa or some1 form the organisr crew a plan (with dates) of the qualifications. That way evryone would know what and when will happen.

Qualifiers need to be approved by the league, that being said, I can justify the Swedish example with the Canada/South America one. It is possible to have Canada/South America separate qualifiers with the points being merged as long as there are the same amount of qualifiers for each so that neither gets a point advantage. There would ultimately have to be a unified tournament at the end between top point getters though. Also, given that people need admin approval, you can't exclude top players from your event and have it pass. If a player decides he's so far ahead he doesn't have to attend stuff, then it's his problem if he loses.
i.e. Someone decides to request approval for 10 Hungarian qualifiers, none of them contain Sziky, FleSs or Ace, likely they'll be denied.
Don't take this a offense, I really don't mean it that way, but: wouldn't it be a bit easier for everyone involved to re-write this thread with more details a bit later? (Also, don't take this personal, but ever since you started to try to sound "official" your English became somewhat not understandable anymore - the OP is a good example for it)
A own site (other than TL.net), more informations about the details (Qualifiers, locations, why is a LAN called Winter when it's hosted in April?), explanations who you are and why anybody should trust you with this kind of information, a registered company...
Also, do some research if your demands are not actually violating national law - which btw might be a real problem if you plan to have "semi official" or "official" kind of offline qualifiers per country. Another thought I had: don't you need some permission by Blizzard to host events like that?
Also, you have like almost a year left to plan, get people to help you and so on. This just seems like a rash idea coming from somewhere, as cool as it sounds. But you need to realize that any participant also would have to do a lot just to attend: get vacations, enough money and a place to stay, as long as giving up a lot of his privacy rights, all based on the assupmtion this would happen in exchange for nothing if it did not happen at all. Depending on what country your coming from, what you do for a living and so on this is really a huge commitment.
Yes, everything seems too rushed for a 40k tournament.
40k is A LOT of money, especially in the situation we currently are in BW. This sum of money surpasses TSL 4 prize pool, a company sponsored tournament, full of players paid to play SC, hosted by the major (foreigner) SC forum in the world.
If there are indeed 40k in the bank, you could probably get colaborators to work with, setup an official tournament site with very detailed information about the event and its legitimacy.
To organize such a huge event in a random thread in the BW forums of TL is a huge mistake and makes all of it look very very shady, even if everything you are doing is legit, it does look shady.
So like gecko said, build something that can give the players some way to identify that the event is legit and not a huge scam. A tournament site would be great, but if you could find ways to contact known colaborators would be even better. Partnering with TL, for example, would clear everyone fears and instantly give you and your events credibility.
Please, make this happen, BW really needs this kind of thing!

I don't have any staff and I'm not planning on paying anyone to do anything, let's be honest here, Starcraft: Brood War has had very few volunteers in the past while. Most of the volunteers work at translating stuff which has nothing to do with the foreign scene. You talk as though it's simple to get people to do stuff, yet you're an excellent example as to why it doesn't work. Rather than contributing to any of these things you've contributed in the thread to trying to convince the world that I'm some kind of mafia overlord which somehow made $50k to blow on BW and somehow didn't get shot for revealing this on the internet for thousands to see... It's a very far fetched story and I don't see how the event is shady at all. I will continue to run events for those who want them, I don't need a huge crew for aesthetics and stuff because it's just a waste of money when it can be better spent on the players.
As far as I know, Blizzard has no regulations against BW tournaments, they do against servers, but not tournaments as long as there is no money made off of it. I'm not making any money off of it, thus, I'm entirely clean as far as relationship with blizzard is concerned.
A rash idea generally describes one that is made in the blink of an eye, remember that I've been working on finding renewable and reliable ways of funding BW for over a year, this didn't happen over night, it's been in the works since before ISL3, before Altitude Nation Wars, before GC2. Of course, the event's format has been modified a hundred times over, the planning has been made, do I expect it to run smoothly? As far as execution, I expect and plan to be ready for many bumps in the road... Nothing like this has been done since WCG, so it's hard to prepare entirely, but this is happening.
As for my english, it was never intended to give every detail, It's an announcement thread... Made for hype more than nit picking. It doesn't even make sense to make accusations of lack of planning/foresight for an announcement of an event that's almost a full year down the road.
It's called winter because it will be primarily played over the winter.
If I didn't think it was needed, I wouldn't have taken such a huge step and would have gradually built up, but BW is losing players all the time, how many announced they would be done after ISL3?
Eywa, I think that some ppl might help u organise that part of the national tour's qualis. I could help if its about the Polish part, but still there should be someone else, coz im planing to play the qualis.

I don't even think that dirty money is involved, but honestly, anybody can tell things about a giant ass prize pool just like that. Why not add it in the first place?

The thing is, you actually ask for sign ups and information just now, when nothing seems to be final. So you seem to think everyone would be "ok" to sign up for stuff that is still in the making without reassurance. Thats a huge leap of faith you demand. On all levels. Do you really think people will start to organize offline events which might require to invest money based on promises? You don't have a history for such a big event. It's a difference to host team leagues online and offline tournaments. If that fails and you were a organizer "validated" by you, you'd automatically take a responsibility. Don't think players wouldn't be all over this "validated" orga if the entire event would fail due to a fault that could've been avoided in the first place.
As long as there are contradictory statements and nothing really plausible, this kind of questions will continue. I really don't mean to offend you as person, I want to see things like this happen, too. I just don't buy it based on what is written here. It's not like I hold grudges against Noise or Elegant.

I don't even think that dirty money is involved, but honestly, anybody can tell things about a giant ass prize pool just like that. That's what makes it shady, to not give info in the first place, then phrasing weird paragraphs of how you couldn't tell and only release the final thing after dozens of questions. Why not add it in the first place?
I'm not asking for any info from people who don't qualify... They're not investing money, the event pays their trip. I think the current players trust me enough to know it's going to happen, I'm just afraid that all the scare from the fans might require the second tour before we get any return players.

Sorry then. This sounds a lot less dramatic than what you could interprete in the OP or other posts here. I'm still not sure if you really need a police record though, that's still a little over the top. Also, any foto-ID for Germany should be enough imho, the most other IDs you have are more or less useless for your purposes, and again, would reveal a bit of "too much" private info (bank cards, social insurance, drivers license). Some other pages use sort of bills (? not sure if right word), like things you would get after Amazon purposes. You can black out parts easily that are not of your concern, but would show your adress.

nothing was finalized, so we didn't think to start qualification point systems, Dragon and I were looking at possible players from LA+CA and you claim we're all inactive but this is a huge prize pool and likely some of these inactive people might just take a shot at it (which is what I thought we are promoting anyway, increase popularity in BW?)

Also for the Qualifiers, where do we host it(server)? How do we notify the people of that area there is a qualifier? what do we need to get the qualifier approved? All the QF info will be released with the R&S thread, likely all online and on Fish Server unless otherwise indicated.
As I said, I'm not going to guess at which innactive players are going to sign up, sign up and get your friends to do the same, if it is judged that there are too many gosus, Canada and South America will be separate. Likewise, if the United States or any other country doesn't have any sign ups, their portions will be cut and potentially merged.

I think all these questions coming out are really good. If people voice all uncertainties and inconsistencies now, it will be much easier to make a fully rounded and satisfactory plan. Keep them coming
It would be great if "inactive" or very casual players would really step up their game for this. It would also be superb if players on the edge, (C+, possibly slightly intermittently practicing players like myself) would push themselves to a higher standard, and get some new faces at the top. I'm certainly going to try to do so, schedule permitting.

Oh, excellent! I'm glad you're taking this approach to the questions.
Has EywaSC procured the funds for the tournament already, or are the numbers in the original post more of a 'rough estimate'?
The fact that you don't even have any staff (..so what does Imbatoss and shotcoder qualify as?), for an event this big, is pretty amazing and just makes it seem that much more far fetched and unbelievable, not to mention what this entire thread does to you. Handling such logistics alone while working a full time job for just a hobby of yours would eat up your schedule. I don't buy into this at all, especially given the history of failure of big tournaments in Brood War and other games.
How about providing us with more details than just hockey cards? Are you one of these auction sport card sites or businesses, going around to sport collector stores/auctions and hoping to buy low, sell high? Or more personal collecting, selling, and putting the profit into your "corporation"?

Events made by myself and/or LRM)Game (inserting his name here for the sake of courteousness) have never been cut before the end and the prizes are always delivered in full. The longest wait time I've recorded for distributing a prize is 1 week and that's the only prize that ever went past "day of" distribution, was due to technical issues.

I can see where a lot of people are getting skeptical. Might I suggest something. I've been a caster for about 6 or 7 months now. Many people still do not hear of my name. I'm fine with that. What I can tell you is for one practice makes perfect. Consistency makes perfect. Maybe if you run enough tournaments that are successful maybe people will stop second guessing you. I'd suggest partner with ISL make it bigger if you want to "rush" this huge tournament out. I think your better off starting smaller with smaller tournaments and organizing them well and then go international with 40k prize pool.
I wish you all the best luck in your endeavor. You said looking for volunteers or something like that. I'd be happy to help any qualifiers that are online with replays. I'd be unavailable to go into Europe has I have school but just giving you some option.

You might have heard of such things as the Nation War League, Gambit Cup Season 1 and 2? Eywa also hosted several other tournaments if I am not mistaken, which also had prices. So, what else should he do?
Tbh, the reason I had trust in this, from the moment I've heard it, is simply because of Eywa's name on it. I think those who have followed his events and read his rulesets clearly notice that what Eywa has once said: the attempt to bring foreign BW to a more professional level, something alot of players sadly lack. Hence it's good someone is taking on this. But that's also the reason I believe in this event.

The list is updated ;d... For some reason brood war players always think it's a good idea to wait till the last possible minute before registering .

I want a golden mouse, and I still don't understand the registering process since we have to wait for someone to organize the tour, like I would register but then I have to wait for tour opens to register again? I dont see the point in registering so early (+ do we see threads or whatever for when qual dates are set since you say they must be approved?)

You're registered by default in all qualifiers run by the league when you register for the league itself.
Qual dates can't be set because we don't even know which countries have enough players to support their own qualifiers yet because only German registrations so far.

We're not likely to see a random player make it anywhere in the tournament. I'd strongly recommend no random, but if someone insists, something will be arranged.

There is no way to prove when the games were played unless it was a recorded game(i.e ISL1/2/3, Gambit Cup, etc), on that note, can we send in games versus the computer (should be completely viable since there is no ladder system for entering quals)? I don't see why we need 15 OF EACH match up if you only need replays to verify that the user playing in the tour is the same user who submitted the replays (i.e hotkey and spam patterns, etc)

I don't care when the replays are from, as long as when they're analysed, we see the same player as the one who is participating in this tournament.
Also, if you sign up as Z/P and only ever play P... Expect trouble, otherwise I don't care (seems like a disadvantage tbh).

It depends on the map or player, I could go race pick and get into a situation where I wouldn't consider playing zerg, but for instance if there's a map like Aztec vs some players, I find that it's easier to ZvP than PvP, I don't think it's a disadvantage at all.

what now?
If a player's hotkeys and style haven't changed in over a year, then the replay's date is irrelevant, as long as someone can look at the rep and confirm who the player is.
Your rules would be a lot easier to understand if you actually spend only a little time on carefully phrase them in a way ordinary persons, including non-native English speakers, get them on the first try. Also, rules that make sense won't be discussed as much. Many of the rules seem arbitrary and not thought through at all :/

you sign up now, there will be qualification tournaments between november and april or so, and the top players from each country get a paid trip to the finals (amount of players per country is determined by how the competition is in that specific country)

The united states are guaranteed to be online qualifiers, the country is too big to host local qualifiers at this stage.

As I previously said, there is currently no information whatsoever tied to your name, with that being said, it's unlikely that a student card would be enough. If you would like to attempt a registration, send all the required information to the e-mail in the OP, it will then be determined what will be sufficient for a grand final appearance.

this is seriously amazing stuff
There are a couple things that need sorted, but likely you should send an e-mail notification of attendance. I'll create one for this at a later time (likely when the qualifiers themselves start).

so do we know the address for where this lan is taking place?

Eywa's handling of this tournament has been awful. Of course people are still suspicious on the legitimacy of this tour.
It's sad actually, because if tournament and prize money is actually legit, it will hurt so much because people are still doubting. With proper advertising, we could've seen so many famous players who already retired from BW, coming back trying their hand at the hefty prize money. Anyone remember Retired_Draco in TSL1? Mondragon? And many more who are not playing SC2 professionally.
Oh well, I'm still gonna keep a close eye on this.
Cheating and abuses are just too common in the BW tourney scene. With such an enormous prize pool there are bound to be cheaters and I suspect good players will be deterred from entering because they'll fear losing to a korean smurf or someone pretending to be a foreigner.
btw, if you actually have doubt you may see that it's eywa who is organizing this, about one of two people that I actually believe into in an event like this. Signing up doesn't hurt anybody, even if it was a scam, it's not like having signed up and it then not happening would put you into any disadvantage in the first place.

I agree there is more than enough time to sign up.
I would love to attend, but for me it would take a lot of effort. I would love to spectate it live, but getting to Prague for me is no easy task once all the information is out I'll make plans and decide and Eywa is in NO rush. Having all the information out by January would be nice though.
I have read over all of the comments and the criticism which was given in this thread once again and I have reflected on it. I agree with a lot that is said and I thank everyone for their feed back. The event itself is undergoing a very inclusive reconstruction and will be re-released shortly.
I apologize for the problems, however, it is to be expected given that I am learning as I go along. It's a difficult process and it should be fully resolved with the new plan. I really think that this reorganization will turn out better for everybody.
Thank you for your patience and support! EUROPEAN LAN CHAMPIONSHIPS ARE NOT GOING ANYWHERE! (they're just in the shop for repairs)

if it doesn't happen, do we all still go to europe... or what, cause I already have the tickets... :troll: I need go smoke joint with rmust and the russians!
In my own opinion i feel as if the efforts are kinda wastful. How many high quality, high production value ISLs could you host in place of this? Assuming the money is there, you could go a long way in building the scene up instead of hosting a 1-off event that will only leave the community asking "what now" as we did after the osl.
i dont know why no registration more members o.o if still suspicious on the legitimity of this tour, lose 5 minutes of your life while but if it is true ... So GOoOoO includes a week now trying to apply registration so far without success, Of course it's my fault too t.t t.t

I've been talking to some friends about going starting the hype in Stockholm right now. Everyone, let's branch out with this as much as we all can. I've linked to this thread from the Swedish SC2 group on FB which has ~1700 members. We all need to hype this in our respective countries.

This is way to early to start hyping. I mean it won't do harm, but people forget in such long periods of time. If I were you I would start focusing my efforts somewhere around early 2013

Dear EywaStarCraft Non-Profit,
I would like to make an inquiry into the status of your decision concerning my friend from Zimbabwe, who would like to join this tour. His English is quite bad, and I am writing this on his behalf. His IDs on the Africa server are: MaJaeYoon[z9z], BenFranklin, b99999, pochokabo, stOp[kOny]. He's played with other top African players like Happy, 7eyes, x4, Zuluman, Raptor, YellowYellow, Lion[z9z], and Fergy, so he's pretty good. Let me know as soon as possible so I can let him know.
Xp was indeed mostly dutch, even though today's team isn't complete anymore. Brownhair, his RL friend, Fleischwesen and me were like the only real "active" German members. We had intern arguements over Ger vs NL all the time.

Guys you really need to give us more information, be more active, hype this event, update everything as often as it's possible. Tips about quali and all what's required for us players to register. It's going to be one of the best BW LAN's EVER. and there are 10 players registred in event which has more than 40k$ prize pool. O.O

None of y'all signed up though, whereas Sabas did. Now, my question is, for the Netherlands, if I sign up and have only Sabas to beat, can I get a trip to Cz out of it? If not, then why bother signing up...
Considering your amount of comments in this thread one may even think you'd have read it pholon. It has been stated that countries that don't bring up enough competitors are merged with other countries.

Just saw the thread, saw the prizemoney, double checked if im really in broodwar section and not sc2. And after reading some comments, still have no clue whats going on, but for the love of broodwar, i wish you good luck with it.

It's going to get updated for two months now and nothing really happens. Just on a sidenote: this point scheme for the qualifiers are not an ELO rating, it's an ordinary point/ranking system.
