And Free has no army to speak of
has to rely on archon splash on mutas, getting a DA for maelstrom

you don't see ultras on match point normally, not enough gas to support them, then again when you're this far ahead
free is dead anyway, with almost no economy

When you're using probes to take on cows you know the end is near

final dance
what a way to end the semis

that last game was so dissapointing..
free played like a anxious little child; too passive, too reactive, too unsure
give the zerg time to get 5 expos, crackling, defiler, ultras.. no good idea unless u have 5 bases 5k 5k 200/200 3-3 and massive archon+reaver army
free had nothing of it 8/
hmm hoped for him to advance so much 8(

I'm not disappointed because EffOrt's only lost a grand total of 6 games so far against Protoss since he returned. excluding his 1 loss today to Free (2:0 BeSt, 1:0 Free, 1:0 Bisu, 1:0 GuemChi) and he has never lost a series to Protoss since he returned. Sigh.

we need flash to compete. Zergs life is too easy without him

There is almost zero analysis of anything going on in the scene anymore.
My impressions, when I sit down to watch the best in the world play Brood War?
Solved game. None of these pros care anymore. It's just about making money.
They play so lazy. Defensive, macro, repeat. That's why the matchups have become so one-sided -- these old fogeys care not about pushing the boundaries in the game, and instead are just content to be robots and do what they've been conditioned to do.
In such settings, the favorite will win the vast majority of the time.
Free never even cared. He was like, I'm going to play my boring standard game, and he'll play his standard game, and if he wins he wins and if I win I win.
He doesn't care that he has virtually no shot at beating Efprt by going standard. They are just trying to make money. They are not creative enough to push the boundaries anymore, nor is there enough financial or social incentive to do so.
Watching these Koreans is, and has been for a while, extremely boring. There is no soul in the scene anymore, as a whole.
In the same vein, don't think I'm complaining. I'm observing. The only reason I watch is the same reason they play: conditioning.
The soul died back in 2012. It was "solved," or at the very least supremely stagnated, around that time as well.
The only solution? Timing attacks. Which requires preparation and strategy. Without coaching, we'll never see such strategy and gumption again.
R.I.P. Brood War

Well this has been pretty much the case since around 2008, but there is definitely less motivation these days

i don't really regard free as "best toss player" though. i always see him as the "jack of all trades, master of none" protoss, decently strong in all matchups but not particularly good in anything. even back in the Kespa days free doesn't really have a stellar records against top zergs. these days effort always has the upper hand in his encounters with free, even when playing random showmatches on island maps when i watched them on stream. (this has also probably affected free's mentality). free is not really an innovator either. i myself never fancied him.
also we are talking about a game that just turned 18, i do not think its easy to come up with new strategies that are viable at the highest level, even with coaches. you talk about conditioning, effort is probably overall the best conditioned zerg player there is, unless you come up with something creative and powerful that no one has ever seen, effort would instantly smell that you did something non-standard and high chance it gets shut down hard. theres only so much you can do in PvZ which usually banks on the zergs being overly greedy (which i feel is the only way top zergs lose in zvp these days), more likely free do and fail 3 cheeses/timing in a row, and we viewers will complain about the crap quality of the games instead.
