This is the official thread for the upcoming Coach-Pupil league. I have taken over running this while Lmaster has been too busy to do so. This league wouldn't even be happening if it wasn't for him, so I would like to give a big thanks and shout out to him for putting in all the work to organize this in the first place.
What is the CPL league? In short the Coach-Pupil League is a league where more experienced players have teams of D/Low C leveled players and train them to compete against each other to try to win the league! League registration is closed and the teams for the league are listed in the graphic above!
CPL Discord - you are not required to join - but joining can make things easier for people needing to reschedule matches, or for getting information on the latest news/updates in the league.
**ArcTimes will receive a walkover win for his team in this game as Stardom and the plebs could not field enough players, however their coach LuMix will play a fun game to complete the series.
***HaFnium will receive a walkover win for his team in this game as Stardom and the plebs could not field enough players, however their assistant coach Fazers will play a fun game to complete the series.

Hello everyone! I have to apologize for the absence last week one more time, but perhaps it was for the best; we got to hear a fantastic cast from the super-supportive evilEye and Herbmon, giving this league some extra spice and flavor. However, now I am pleased to announce that I am back and have again invited the man himself, Sayle!
This week we are wrapping up the league with the much-awaited final match of this league: the Grand Finals between Drag n' Herb and Team Assimilate! Both teams are fielding five core players, two of which will be returning as ace players for the final two matches and all the marbles! Every player in these line-ups has proven themselves to be an asset to the success of their respective crew, and we will be seeing many amazing match-ups for the first time! Be sure to tune in this Sunday to see who will walk away with the gold. Also, tune in for a small, fun surprise immediately after the finals... No spoilers
GET HYPE!
IMPORTANT NOTICE Please please PLEASE send your replays to lazersnipe as soon as possible after your Playoff matches this weekend! We will be casting them on the same day!
Joining me this week is a man who should be well-known to all Brood War fans on TeamLiquid: get hype for Sayle! He has an extensive casting history and is one of the few people sporting the headset icon on TeamLiquid. In the past he has risen to the blue ranks on the old ICCup system and has a wealth of knowledge to share with our viewers and players. Get hype! These finals promise to be tight; both teams advanced with a 3-2 score over their opponents in the semi-finals, and now vie for the chance to take on Drag n' Herb in the Grand Finals! Be sure to tune in and hear the dulcet tones of Sayle analyze these games. I'll be there too, sorry
Due to unexpected events, Herbmon and evilEye took over the broadcast and did a great job!
Joining me in broadcasting Semi-final 1, SuGo is returning in response to popular demand! Expect more high-level analysis, some of that sweet shit-talk, jokes, laughs, and more. We will be casting #2 seed team vs. #5 seed, Magical Ponies as they vie for a place in the Finals, and eventually the opportunity to face Drag n' Herb in the Grand Finals!
Immediately after that, broadcasting Semi-final 2 wiil be L_Master! He will continue on his own stream and will be bringing you the game betwee #3 seed Team Assimilate vs. #4 seed Stardom and the plebs! They too are looking for their opportunity to bring their A-game to the Finals and Grand Finals. Be sure to tune in!

For the final week of the Team League phase of the CPL, joining me will be dark.matter! He is officially the second-most successful player in the CPL, a C- Terran trying to reach his dreams and attain C before SC:R is released! In the past he has reached C- in 2011, but now that he got a sick new job working from home, he has had the opportunity to reach for his dreams once more. He is also the man behind the South Park mod for Brood War, a member of the #1 team of Drag n' Herb, and one of the fastest up-and-comers in the league! He has recently cast a grudgematch from within his team, and I felt that he was more than ready to join me on a sample cast here.
Look forward to some insight from the Stardom perspective against ProForward, banter, and the usual CPL hijinx.

He's an American Zerg player who is currently E rank on Fish and has been playing consistently over the past 2 years since switching from SC2 (but has played StarCraft since Vanilla!). Joining me this week will be m1_garandad, aka B12ad, a veteran player who joined TL back in 2008 and has reached C on ICCup. He is known for his underhanded NHFFA tactics as well as for freely and deliberately trolling discords and playing just about everyone he meets at least once. He's banned from Twitter and has a black no-zip 1a2a3a hoodie from the good ol' Handsome Nerd days, as well as some other swag. This promises to be a lively commentary with another of the scene's colorful personalities, so I hope you all can tune in!

As always, look forward to some informative casts where we try to analyze and help our players! This week we will of course get an added dose of unique humor from our guest caster, but we will do post-match analysis and grades as well.

Re-joining me this week will be the the fan-favorite, oft-requested Fazers from team Stardom and the plebs! You all should be very familiar with him by now, so no point in introductions. Watch as we 1v1 live on CasterCup for CasterPoints while casting 1v1s from CPL Teamleague Week 2!
I would like to comment quickly about our bonus replay: I feel like I forgot someone's request for Week 2's cast, but in the meantime this replay will be here as a placeholder. If someone comes forward with a replay that they requested to be cast and I forgot to mention it, we will cast that instead. If no one comes forward with a replay and I'm being paranoid about my own memory deficits, we will be casting Bisu vs. Flash! My goal is to show how I would analyze a replay for my own personal use, and I will ask Fazers about his input on this process as well.

He has experience in practically every match-up and his mechanical limitations have necessitated an analytical and intelligent playstyle with all races. He has some differing opinions from me, on Protoss play especially, so tune in for some back-and-forth on Protoss play, and of course analysis of the other match-ups as well!

Analysis of high level vs. build-orders via rep!
This week I will be running solo, covering all the content I've been pushing off for various reasons throughout the league! The game list is self-explanatory - tune in to see a couple of the most successful players in the league face off in 3 matches! Following that, we will be taking another look at the epic battle between the two 100 apm Protoss heroes and top 10 players, evilEye and lazersnipe, with our eyes peeled for lazersnipe's first successful storm drop!
After that, I will be loading replays from players such as Bisu and SuGo to compile some fresh build orders from some high level players! This has historically been one of the most difficult match-ups for Protoss players, so I thought it would be a good idea to look at how the best do what they do best, and at the same show some of the newer players out there how to look at build orders and incorporate them into your play.
It might be a little less lively than it normally would be with two casters, but I hope you guys will tune in!
This weekend we will be blessed/cursed with the return of SuGo, currently sitting at #40 on the ICCup ladder.
SuGo joined us not too long ago for a grudgematch cast. He is gaining recognition in the foreign scene, with people wondering where he is in prominent tournament threads. SuGo is also one of the few responsible for putting a dent in Shinee's destruction of the ICCup ladder. He will grace us with his presence again on Friday evening EDT, at which time he will go over one replay from every Protoss match-up, completing the three race trifecta of Mystery Casts. We will go over the strategies, tactics, and mindset behind his play.
If you are Protoss, look forward to lessons from a top tier foreign player! As a low-tier scrub, I will be asking questions that might be painfully obvious to our gosu SuGo, but could benefit our more amateur Zerg players and Terran players in their vP match-ups. As always, viewers are encouraged to ask their own questions on Twitch! I will relay them to him during the cast.
Hope to see you all there! Truly a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in gaining some deeper knowledge in the PvX and XvP match-ups
Scan is well-known to the community as an active contributor (check out this thread!), a frequent competitor in foreign tournaments such as Have At You!, Filthy BW Cup, and Defiler tour. He is a prolific streamer and practices with some of the best players in the world. He has agreed to allow me to hop on his stream, where he will be going over 1 of his replays from each Terran match-up, giving us insight into the builds and strategies that make him a force to be reckoned with.
If you are Terran, look forward to lessons from a top tier player! As a low-tier scrub, I will be asking questions that might be painfully obvious to our gosu Scan, but could benefit our more amateur Zerg players and Protoss players in their vT match-ups.
Hope to see you all there! Truly a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in gaining some deeper knoweldge in the TvX and XvT match-up
This week we have a special guest: [sc1f]eonzerg!!!
I have asked one of the best foreign Zergs of all time to join us and analyze three of his replays with us, one for each ZvX match-up. The plan is for him to discuss the builds'/strategies' advantages, disadvantages, implementations, interactions, and lots of other long words that basically mean "what it do" in different ways!
If you are Zerg, look forward to lessons from a top tier player! As a low-tier scrub, I will be asking questions that might be painfully obvious to our gosu eonzerg, but could benefit our more amateur Terran players and Protoss players.
Hope to see you all there! Truly a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in gaining some deeper knoweldge in the ZvX and XvZ match-up
This week, guest caster NinaZerg and I will be looking at Zerg replays from the community! Players and coaches of CPL were asked to submit replays which featured a Zerg player that either gained a big advantage and lost it, or lost the game and doesn't know why. Some of the replays were chosen for their educational/interest value as well.
Here are some preview comments about the replays, or from the replays, that should give you a hint about what you should expect:
"I mistakenly think his hydras are a big threat... I think I could have send my guardians into his main..."
"if u win, ill kill myself"
"gg"
"It will make you facepalm plenty"
Do you have any replays of games where you lost and you don't know why you lost, or where you got a big advantage and then blew it?
"around 300 or 400 of them maybe"
If you are Zerg, look forward to lessons on what NOT to do, as well as the usual analysis of minor mistakes! Terran players and Protoss players can tune in and see how to make a comeback or take advantage of a Zerg's mistakes!
This week, ProbuA takes on ArcTimes aka FatReaver In our first-ever mirror showmatch! Both players performed well by arriving in the CPL Tournament proper, but were taken down in the early stages by some of the stronger players of the league. Probua is, of course, everyone's favorite PeruToss and ArcTimes is a relatively new face in the TL 1v1 scene, coming from the NHFFA group. It will be interesting to see how their playstyles differ when wielding the Protoss arsenal.
We have a special guest caster this week: Sugo! This A rank Protoss is currently at #2 on the American ICCup ladder standings. He will be providing insight into PvP, Protoss in general, and his signature sass and swagger.
Co-casting will be your regular ol' scrubby host, Jealous@TL.
This week we will witness the clash between Stardom, the named and famed player from Stardom and the Plebs, and f10eqq from team. During the broadcast of the first team match (Qikz vs. f10eqq), Stardom had some choice words for f10eqq about his play. This prompted f10eqq to clapback in this very thread, hazarding a warning in the process:
On March 05 2017 01:52 f10eqq wrote: Can I challenge Stardom to a grudge match? Ez 3-0 Kappa
User was warned for this post
Stardom, not one to back down, answered back with little delay:
Stardom is of course the DRTL/DRIT famous 100 apm Terran who has shown a surprising capacity for C- play given his relatively low speed. f10eqq is one of the better players on his team and has participated in numerous TL events, reaching C rank on ICCup. Without further ado...
f10eqq vs. Stardom
We have a special guest caster this week: Qikz himself! Teammate of f10eqq, friend of Stardom, STPL organizer, and Rookie League caster, he will grant us insight into these two players from personal experience and seduce you with his British English.
Co-casting will be your regular ol' scrubby host, Jealous@TL.
This week we will see two players from Magical Ponies. NeonSword is a frequent streamer whose understanding of the game and mechanics are fairly advanced for his rank. b0stonsc is an up-and-coming Dungeons and Dragons master. Will he be the dungeon master of NeonSword? *whip whip*
We have a special guest caster this week: Ty2! He is a high-level Zerg who is also the captain of Magical Ponies. Look forward to his analysis of the ZvT match-up!
Co-casting will be your regular ol' scrubby host, Jealous@TL.
** THE FIRST CPL GRUDGEMATCH WILL BE CAST ON Saturday, Mar 11 1:00am GMT (GMT+00:00) **
This week's exposition will be a rematch of the DRIT 10 finals! Last time, Xloctis lost after gaining a 3-1 lead in their Bo7 series; Vitlich made an epic 3 game comeback. How will things turn out this time?
This will be the first installment of Team Showmatch, wherein we asked teams to select two players for an exhibition showmatch. The format is as follows:
1. Use the maps that were available in CPL/DRIT (this will be updated to reflect the new map pool in the near future) 2. Both players strike 1 map from the pool. 3. Use random.org to generate the game order. 4. Bo5, all games played. 5. Get casted on stream!
This week's match is between two of the stronger players belonging to team: f10eqq vs. Qikz Map Order: f10eQQ <Overwatch> Qikz f10eQQ <Circuit Breaker> Qikz f10eQQ <Fighting Spirit> Qikz f10eQQ <Destination> Qikz f10eQQ <Jade> Qikz
Your casters for this event will be the Dynamic Duo of Jealous@TL and Fazers@TL, now with improved sound quality because we will be doing it over Discord and not over each other's shoulders lol.
We have a special guest for this cast! ImbaTosS, aka EleGant[AoV] is an experienced Brood War player, caster, and enthusiast that has recently appeared in a popular podcast and promoted Brood War's reinvigoration!
Look forward to educated commentary presented in a smooth British voice, as well as (hopefully ) high level play from your coaches!
Co-casting will be done by your usual noobie caster, Jealous@TL.
1. All games will be played on Sunday at 19:00 GMT (3:00 PM EDT) as voted on earlier in the league.
Coaches should confirm with their players that they will be present/able to play before committing to a line-up.
**If some player absolutely cannot make their game at this time it can be played during the week prior - you must arrange to play against your opponent before the scheduled match. If you don't/can't arrange anything beforehand (your opponent is not required to give you a rescheduled match) or show up later than 15 minutes after the scheduled start time your opponent will receive a walkover win. The match must be played AND reported to me by or before the scheduled game time on Sunday (19:00 GMT). If the games aren't played by then the player who wasn't able to make it on Sunday will receive an automatic loss (if neither player could make it on Sunday BOTH will receive a loss). **
The results of all Sundays matches need to be reported to me the day of.
If a game is under 2 minutes because of lag/some other issue it will be replayed.
If the game is over 2 minutes, a player drops and the players can't come to an agreement (ie. the game was close, or 1 player was ahead) the game will need to be reviewed by an admin who will make the decision on if the game is to be re-played or not. If one player had a clear advantage they will receive the win, if the game was close it will be replayed. However if the same player drops 3 times in a best-of-3 series they will receive losses for the remaining games in the series.
You need to play the race you originally signed up to play as. Playing as a different race will result in a loss, no matter how the match goes.
If your opponent is a "random" player (not a race-picker) you are allowed to choose any race you wish during those games.
We will be meeting 10-15 minutes before the matches in the channel CPL on ICCUP (bw patch 1.16) by default* and all games are to be played on ICCUP. Other platforms may be used, but it's up to the players to organize this among themselves beforehand if they would like to play elsewhere. All maps in the map pool can be found in the current ICCUP map-pack.
* With the looming updates of the remastered BW and new patch coming out this may be changed at some point.
2. All regular league matches are 1v1 played in a best-of-3 series.
Coaches will assign 5 players each week from their respective team to play in some order (1,2,3,4,5). The order itself does not matter (as all 5 players on each team will play simultaneously) and is just for matching players up against the other team (1v1, 2v2,... 5v5). If no order is given the order will be randomized by me. Each week a different map from the map pool will be assigned. The first match of the series is to be played on this map - after that the loser of each game picks from the remaining maps in the pool (no repeats per best-of-3).
Special notes to coaches:
As this is supposed to be a fun league about getting better/improving please make sure everyone on your team (who is active/wants to play some matches) gets the chance to play at least once in each “5 week segment” (at least vs 1 of the 4 teams you'll play in each half of the league) – This isn't about stacking off your top 5 players every week and not giving the others a chance to play.
You need to send me your line-ups at least 1 week before the scheduled match - a list of 5 players in the order of your choice, or otherwise randomized by me. You can send them to me via Discord, TL, or on BW and is recommended you do so privately to prevent other coaches from seeing your line-up before they post theirs.
3. The league will run for 10 weeks.
All teams will have the chance to play each team twice. Since we have 5 teams, each week 1 team will have a bye. After the 10 weeks are up we will move into the “Playoffs” (more on this to come) where we will find out which team can take it all!
4. Replays and Reporting.
All games should have both players saving the replays (Naming them something like CPL player v player G1, G2 could make things easier, but not necessary). Replays are needed in case there are any arguments or discrepancies in scores/games. Both players (or at the very least the winner) should be reporting their scores to me (ideally as the games happen/finish on Sunday) but if it's not possible at the time you can also PM me the results here on TL or tell one of your coaches and they can pass it along to me. I need all results on the Sunday that the games were played.
As there are going to be a lot of games played each week we most likely won't be able to cast all of the games. Additional casters are welcome - if you'd like to cast some games you can contact either Jealous or myself and we can try to work something out. Replays can be submitted to either Jealous or myself. If you have a game or couple of games you felt were good or epic make note of them and we'll try to cast some of those, or if you have some games you want some additional feedback on/games where you're not sure where you went wrong make note of those and send them in as well.
5. Lastly, and most important of all, remember this league is about improving your game play and having fun, win or lose it should be about the learning experience. With that said best of luck to all players/teams/coaches as we get into the league!
PLAYOFF INFORMATION
Playoffs will take place after the completion of the league and will have a different format than the league play.
1. The playoffs will run for a total of 3 weeks.
The playoffs are designed to allow all teams the chance to participate at least once. It should be noted games should be played at or before the normal league game time as the hope will be to cast all playoffs games that day!
2. The Playoff Schedule will be as follows:
Week 1 will be Team 2 vs Team 5, and Team 3 vs Team 4
Week 2 will be the Winner of (Team 2 vs Team 5) vs the Winner of (Team 3 vs Team 4)
Week 3 will be the Grand Finals! Team 1 vs the team that wins both matches in week 1 and 2. (Format for the Grand Finals will be announced after the league)
3. Each team will pick 5 players to play in a best-of-1 match.
Each player will be playing on a different map from the map pool - Coaches and their teams will decide beforehand which map each of their players will be playing on. The winner of the best-of-5 games will move on (all 5 games will be played and casted). Line-ups for playoffs will be announced based on what map players are assigned to play.
4. Each team (coach) will veto 1 map from the map pool (the lower seeded team gets the first map veto.
After the map vetos, we will be left with 5 maps. These are the 5 maps that will be played for the particular playoff Match-Up (1 player per map).
5. All replays will be sent to me (Ideally Spoiler free!) and will then later be casted where the results will be revealed!
GRAND FINALS – Sunday, Jul 30 7:00pm GMT (GMT+00:00)
VS
lazersnipe <Overwatch> ArcTimes
shoopdawooper <Jade> Genji_
PiSan <Demian1.02> snowfruit
dark.matter <Destination> DiarrheaTerran
KatjaKean <Queensbridge> HaFnium
Ace Matches
dark.matter <Fighting Spirit> HaFnium
shoopdawooper <Circuit Breaker> Genji
*The 2 Ace matches serve to complete the best-of-7 match with all maps from the map pool being played once. All 7 games will be played and cast regardless of the outcome, and not necessarily cast in the order above with the exception of the 2 "Ace Matches" being played last.
1. Standings will be ranked firstly by team wins. It does not matter if you win against another team 5-0 or 3-2, you'll still get 1 team win for each team you beat, or 1 team loss for each loss. Teams with more wins are ranked higher.
2. Series Record - In the event of a tie in team wins, it now falls to your teams series record. This is the total number of series won and lost by your team across multiple weeks. If you win 5-0 one week, and lose 2-3 the next your "Series record" would be 7-3.
3. Total Record - If teams are still tied in the above categories it falls to total number of games won/lost throughout all games played.
4. If for some reason it's still tied, the tie will be broken by looking at the record those teams have against each other, or a possible grudge match.
1. Coaches, please play your games and send the reps!
2. a. Is there someone you have a grudge with in the league? A player who dissed you on the forums, stole too many of your points on ladder, cheesed you really hard? Maybe you want a rematch with someone from the CPL/DRIT tour? This is your chance for revenge! Please submit your name, your opponent name, and the reason for the match-up to Jealous@TL or through your coach.
b. Is there someone on your team who you've been practicing with and you guys have had some great games? Would you like to do a formal Bo5 exposion series? My aim is to highlight at least one in-team series per team before the start of the league. As above, please contact me with the names of the two players or go through your coach.
OP Updated with new additional information and teams are now "Locked in". These will be the teams for the remainder of the league. Map Pool added as well.
I think using more foreign maps is better in something like Fight Club, since better players will have more constructive feedback on the maps. New players won't have any pro-game examples to copy building placement, scouting patterns, expansion patterns, etc. That said, one or two foreign maps is ok (Crown and Sceptre, Overwatch, and Queensbridge are probably the three best imo).
CAS is FS with some twists. Eddy has similarities to Jade, but is better. Kiseyras is eonzergs new favourite map.
On June 13 2016 16:55 [sc1f]eonzerg wrote: Guess my new favorite map :p
CAS is new. Kiseyras is pretty new. Eddy is not as brand new (its in the iccup mappack) but should be used in more tournaments. Whenever Jade is being used I am inclined to bring up Eddy.
Do check out the casted youtube showmatches by FlashFTW and by Sayle in the above link. They are in the OP.
From my point of view, CAS is my best map so Id prefer if someone wanted to use one of my maps to pick that one. The logical thing is to use it instead of FS as they are so similar. I mean, you can even do the same factory wall in at bottom right main for example. As this tournament is already planning to use FS, it seems a perfect chance. Same with Jade to Eddy. Queensbridge to Kiseyras, well thats simply switching 1 foreign for 1 foreign! (could switch Overwatch to New Sniper Ridge if for some arbitrary reason there had to be another Korean map. Or just dont do all of my suggestions, choose at your leisure)
@f10eqq Thanks for the kindness. (I wrote the above reply before seeing your comment).
New players won't have any pro-game examples to copy building placement, scouting patterns, expansion patterns, etc.
This comment is interesting. I could answer in so many different ways. 1. Take pride in your own scene! 2. The maps Im suggesting are very standard in many ways, so you can easily transfer knowledge across. 3. If you cant directly copy, then you will have to strategise and formulate a gameplan! This is fun. This also teaches players who are learning a lot of important things. As this is the coach pupil league it almost seems More appropriate in some ways. 4. Coaches may enjoy having the opportunity to create their own sneaky game plans and feed them to their team. Especially on a map like Kiseyras. Having new maps allows space for freedom and creativity.
Basically you can argue things both ways I guess. The end fact is these are some good quality maps. More tournaments should use them. As you play them more, you will gain confidence on them, and then you might even Want to play them even more and it snowballs. Coach pupil league and other newer player leagues are the perfect breeding ground for foreign maps. You practice a map with your team mate etc, gaining a sense of ownership. Like I mentioned; Take pride in your own scene.
I think there are too many 2 player maps (Destination/Queensbridge/Overwatch)....
We have discussed the structure of the league recently, and I believe that we have reached a consensus about the amount of times a map will be played that allows for a fairly even split of the amount of games played per map type. I'm sorry that I can't be more specific because I am not the main organizer and things are not set in stone as of now, but please rest assured that the amount of games played on 2 player maps will not be an overwhelming issue for the league.
On March 02 2017 21:20 Jukado wrote: Hi, thankyou for using foreign maps!
The point of this league is to help the participants improve; I believe that playing on maps that are familiar to them and that they will encounter most frequently in competitive play (ladder) is of top priority.
As I mentioned above, there was a lengthy discussion held about balancing the map pool. The main things we tangled with and tried to keep in mind:
1. Using standard maps that people would commonly encounter. I mentioned this above. 2. Having good maps. Demian was chosen over Tau Cross, Longinus, and Aztec because I made the argument that it is a very good map and seems to play out to be more balanced than the above; also has the benefit of being recently used in ASL. This is also the reason why Python wasn't considered at all, despite still being very popular. 3. Having a good balance of 4/3/2 player maps for the teamleague. Although there is only one 3 player map, with the current system that lazersnipe has in mind, this will not be an imbalanced distribution; again, as mentioned above, it is hard for me to explain without going into details that may change, but the amount of games played on 4/3/2 player maps should be pretty representative of the ladder experience. 4. Having a decent diversity of map styles. This was the reason why Jade was kept in the map pool and Latin Quarter was taken out. We felt that Latin Quarter didn't bring that much diversity to the table after FS + CB were already included, which we found to be of highest priority as per #1 above. Jade was kept in because of the low-ground main. #3 falls under this as well, this is more like a #3.b. if I think about it. 5. Using foreign maps. This was the penultimate priority after looking at all of the other criteria. There was talk of not including any foreign maps at all, because of #1 and the overall purpose of this league that I mentioned earlier. However, lazersnipe and others involved in the process (myself included, to a lesser degree) feel that foreign tournaments should include foreign maps as well; we are all from one community, and thus we kept Queensbridge and Overwatch, both of which satisfy #2, 3, and 4. However, replacing all of the maps you suggest would again contradict our overall purpose and #1. 6. Keeping maps that were used in the league up until this point, from the CPL Ranking Tour/DRIT 10. This was of least priority because we were actually looking for ways to diversify the map pool while keeping all of the above criteria in mind, but it simply makes sense from a continuity and therefore improvement standpoint as per the league's purpose.
I want to note that I am not speaking on behalf of lazersnipe here; this is just my own interpretation of the discussion we had concerning the map pool.
As we approach the actual teamleague phase, we will be having more discussions about the format of the league. We already have some decent ideas in that regard, and we made this map pool with them in mind. There will be more updates in the future (although not any time soon, as the practice phase is quite long) that will provide a much more concrete outline. At that time, I think that you will see how the map pool and the format work together nicely.

I saw this after I had already posted the above, but I think I addressed why some of us don't feel inclined to agree with you on your first point, specifically for this league. To expound upon this, map irregularities and unconventional maps are more difficult for lower level players to work with, because of the things that f10eqq mentioned as well as the fact that they are either 1. newer to the scene so they are less flexible in how they approach new maps/playstyles or 2. don't play/haven't played enough games in general to justify subdividing their attention away from the commonly played Korean maps that they are more likely to encounter as a part of their experience.
I hope that you understand that we did put in the effort to represent foreign map makers here.
I did watch the C&S VODs recently, and I did bring it up to discussion when we were considering the map pool. However, as I mentioned above, it did not provide as much diversity as Jade does to our 4 player map pool, and we unanimously feel that FS/CB's presence in the map pool was non-negotiable. I also would like to point out that if you want to promote your maps/foreign maps more, I would suggest that you run your own tournament, perhaps with incentives. I understand that you as a map maker would like to see your work gain exposure and traction, and while your contributions are noteworthy, I don't think it's appropriate to have arguments about foreign vs. Korean maps in unrelated threads as consistently as I've seen from you. Please don't take this the wrong way; I just think that this is not the best place for this discussion. A PM to the organizer(s) would probably be more appropriate and less of a self-advertisement.
This week's match is between two of the stronger players on team: f10eQQ vs.
My original short post was just some personal suggestions about the map pool. Demurity then said "I have no idea what those foreign maps are lol" so I replied to him. The fact that he doesnt know the maps signifies I dont do enough unfortunately. So my posts were specifically replying to the individuals Demurity and then f10eqq. They post, I reply. The map pool has just been announced so its a normal discussion to have.
Normally I PM tour organisers about some of the latest maps just to make sure they are atleast aware of the options (and I dont post publicly). This is because I have my finger on the pulse when it comes to maps and strats. That I made some of them is very much secondary to me. Several tour organisers have asked me to post my PM publicly in their threads though so that other people can see whats going on and to bump their thread so it gets attention. So now you know the order of events. Indeed the tour you just finished that was started by L_Master was all done by PM on my part. Im actually a very quiet poster as can be seen in my first post in this thread. Indeed you can see I was suggesting to remove one of my own maps to put in Kiseyras, and to remove a foreign map to put in a Korean one. So I like to think that Im fairly impartial in reality, and the reason Im passionate about map pools is because they have such a big influence on the quality of a tour in my opinion.
I would like to make one quick point though: Jealous, you wrote:
...subdividing their attention away from the commonly played Korean maps that they are more likely to encounter as a part of their experience.
Its a totally valid point. As I said to f10eqq earlier the argument can go both ways though. Basically if every tournament organiser agreed that Plasma would be the only map used in all tours for 2017, then obviously a lot more practice games would get played on it in preparation. So people would be more likely to encounter it! My point was that newer players will play whatever is popular and encouraged by the veterans (simplifying here but I think you get the idea). Tour organisers actually have a large influence (dare I say responsibility) for shaping the future in the long run (not to make it a burden or anything, just saying this is a reality that is not necessarily considered much in general).
But to be crystal clear I think you guys here in this tour are doing a great job already! Please understand that. I made 3 personal suggestions as the map pool has just been announced so its on topic. You have given good reasons for the thought process behind the map pool and its all good. So hopefully Ive helped explain stuff. I like brood war, I love to see it moving forward the way it currently is. Maps play a part in that and as a fan of brood war first and foremost, and as someone with an amount of experience, Im essentially the right person in the right place so Im almost self elected to act as an instrument of progression. Ofcourse in any system (the BW community in this case) there are different elements that interact. The more conservative elements mix with the more progressive, and the voice of reason pipes up too, then a balance is found. Just like how a new build order gets polished and perfected over time.
Thank you for tuning in everyone! I plan to upload all of the VODs I owe the league (CPL Ranking Tour/DRIT Finals, Coaches' Showmatch, First Team Match) this weekend. If you're a part of CPL and want to play a Bo5 like the one we just did with one of your teammates, here are the rules:
I played super defensive against f10 in the final game, because honestly I've lost too many games to him with him randomly pulling a bunch of dts out of his ass and me having no scans. I also had no idea really how many bases he had until just after I started pushing. I scanned his nat, but he could've had hidden bases, he's done that in practice.

Even if he had dt's as long you got scans you could kill the dts as they are very weak compared to zealots and dragoons although your academy was a little late. Also if you are afraid of hidden bases I think sending 1-2 vultures scouting out the map until you got scans can help you scout hidden bases and if you saw he doesn't then mining them up so he can't place a nexus there is still good enough.

The Wiki page is up and running. If you see any errors, please fix them yourself if you know how! If you are having trouble, you can contact me via PM or on Discord.
Also, the VODs for the DRIT/CPL finals are up on YouTube. Sorry for the wait!
I have also uploaded the two showmatches that we have had in CPL so far:

Due to scheduling conflicts with two Brood War tournaments, Ty2 and I have opted to postpone the cast by a day to:
This week we will witness the clash between Stardom, the named and famed player from Stardom and the Plebs, and f10eqq from team. During the broadcast of the first team match (Qikz vs. f10eqq), Stardom had some choice words for f10eqq about his play. This prompted f10eqq to clapback in this very thread, hazarding a warning in the process:

Oh please, do go on.
He has swagger, he has class. He's got a fine looking ass.
The reason why I didn't finish the bo5 was because I was to tilted at that point so I decided to just give him the walkover and no he was wanting to grudgematch me because of my roasting of qikz lmao.

Sorry, the cast will be postponed by one week until next weekend. There are two great events happening right now - FilthyCup and the SC AI - that you guys should tune into! I didn't want to make people decide between one or the other, so I will try to find a time next weekend that doesn't interfere with these tournaments ^^ In particular FilthyCup is running some high level games right now, so it is worthwhile for our players to watch!
Quick note that I will likely repeat ad nauseum throughout the league: for your team matches, make sure to review the replays with your coaches! I will ask each team for 1-2 reps each week that are either:
1. Cool epic games 2. Games that should be dissected and analyzed for educational purposes
I'm wondering how much flexibility league organizers are willing to allow for match playtime on Sundays. I'm unfortunately obligated until early evening Eastern time on Sundays, but would love to compete. If my scheduled opponent doesn't mind, would it be alright for us to schedule a different time, or do you guys prefer that everyone plays at the same time?

You can absolutely schedule for an earlier time and I believe that is covered in the league description on the first page ^^
EDIT:
Thank you everyone for tuning in for Mystery Cast #1! Mystery Cast #2 will be going live some time next weekend; without giving up too much, I want to just say that it will not follow the same format but it will be entertaining and educational! Expect great things!
Here is the homework for people who have PTR, as promised:

I can't answer for you - that would be up to lazersnipe/L_Master? In the meantime, if you PM me your information in the following format:
1. ICCup ID that you will be using, and a link to the ID that you achieved your max rank on if that is different 2. Max rank achieved 3. Main race (race-picking is allowed)
I will put you on a reserve list. As it stands now, it seems that all teams should have enough players. Unfortunately, amateur foreign BW leagues of this nature often have people disappearing for one reason or another, often due to real life complications. In the event of that happening, I will reach out to you!
ALSO. Faust has said that he wants to run Rookie Teamleague again after this season is over, so that is something to look out for if that doesn't change
I'm sorry, but I just remembered that I forgot to announce the arrival of a few new players to the CPL league! These additions were arranged earlier this week in order to bolster some of the teams that had fewer players available.
Let's welcome our new pupils:

I have talked to Shoopdawooper, he said he will try to make it at that time for your games, but it is a bit early for him so there's no guarantee that he'll be there right at that time and might be a little later.

1. Your max rank with ANY race, max rank with the race you are planning to play instead of your main race (which it seems you are suggesting). 2. The accounts associated with those max ranks, and the account you will be using if not one of the aforementioned. 3. Your preferred race/match-ups.
If eligible, you will be put on a reserve list that I have going right now, and will be added to a team if the need arises. The order with which you will be put on a team depends on when you asked to be put on reserve.
Isn't this kinda funny to you? I know it is to me

I have contacted his coach for you. In general, you should try to contact their coach first; if unable to do so (no worries, happens), then you can post here. We will do our best to accomodate.

Lol no. If that was my mindset I wouldn't ask you for the information, although I guess that would be funny too. But as I said, take it to PM. You're spreading off topic toxicity in now 2 threads for no reason.

Absolutely! I know that even if him and I weren't trying to deal with a 13 hour time difference, we wouldn't be able to catch everyone interested in our live broadcast so Scan has already confirmed that he will either publish the broadcast on YouTube or give me the recording at which point I will try to do so post-haste
Big big shout out to Scan for dropping some knowledge on us in this cast, and shout outs to the viewers who tuned in and brought some thoughtful questions to the table!
Coming up... THIS weekend we will watch a selection of the first week's games. NEXT weekend we will have our Fourth Mystery Match. Keep your eyes open for updates about specific times!

Joining me this week will be the smooth-talking New Yorker, 100 apm extraordinaire evilEye. He has experience in practically every match-up and his mechanical limitations have necessitated an analytical and intelligent playstyle with all races. He has some differing opinions from me, on Protoss play especially, so tune in for some back-and-forth on Protoss play, and of course analysis of the other match-ups as well!
I would also like to link you guys the replays from yesterday's cast with Scan for your personal analysis:

How many hours are you thinking? I generally need all the games played, scores reported, and replays collected asap on Sunday so I can update all the different posts and standings that day. If it's going to be too long it would be better to try to play it earlier in the week (the day before?).

We will be continuing the cast where we left off - this time with no interruptions or technical difficulties (probably), we will look at games 1 and 2 from the series between Xloctis and ProbuA.

While the chance of adding everyone is slim, we might get more people and have a slightly easier time connecting people.

+++BONUS+++ Bisu < Benzene > Flash
I hate to have to bring this up, but because we recently had an issue with it, this needs to be said.
Being overly BM (Bad Mannered) or disrespecting opponents will not be tolerated. I feel most people are composed enough for this to not be an overwhelming issue in the league. The whole idea of this league is based around the idea of newer or less skilled players getting the chance to improve. Sure people like to win, but win or lose it should be more focused on improving.
The parties in question will be warned directly, and this will be considered a league-wide warning that BM is not tolerated in this league. I hope this won't need to be brought up again, but BM in the future will be dealt with case-by-case and may result in removal from the league.

I haven't heard anything back from him and given its 11:30pm here I doubt we'll play or show up at the scheduled time
Scara the only suggestion I have is that you stay up/set an alarm to show up at match time. (19:00 GMT (+00:00)).
We've just discussed your situation, and unfortunately the conclusion we've reached is that whoever shows up at the official match time will win the series (assuming the other person isn't there). This is in the rules for the league. After reviewing the rules, it had to be noted that there is no mandate stating that a reschedule MUST be granted (as that would be unreasonable), but it's been the general rule in D/C ranks tournaments that they should be granted if possible. In this case, it seems it was impossible, even with a substitution, so we revert back to the previous rule where it states that whoever shows up at match time with no opponent, wins the series 2-0 due to walk-over.
Now, in the event of both players not showing up, as might be the case here, lazer and I discussed the options and we've decided that both Scara and Pisan will receive 0-0 match score, and the team's match score will be reflected as such. However, if at the end of the other 4 matches, the scores are tied (say one team went 2-0, 2-0, 0-2, 0-2, 0-0 - a map tie), then there will be an ace match to determine the final score and who won the overall series.
I just want to make sure that everyone is aware: everyone should be playing on 1.16, unless there are extreme circumstances. "I don't feel like downloading 1.16 from ICCup and putting it in a separate folder on my PC," is NOT an acceptable reason.
The order of "venue" should be something like this:
1) 1.16, ICCup. If that fails ... 2) ShieldBattery. If that fails ... 3) GameRanger or other simulated LAN 1.16 service... 4) 1.18
Everyone who is a member of this league signed up knowing that the official server that will be used for this league is ICCup, official version is 1.16.
Standings and the matches have been officially updated! Many thanks to SCC-Faust for getting the bulk of it done in my absence! I still won't be around nearly as often, but this apartment has free unpassworded wifi, what whaat

He has recently cast a grudgematch from within his team, and I felt that he was more than ready to join me on a cast here.
Look forward to some insight from the Stardom perspective against ProForward, banter, and the usual CPL hijinx.
And just like that, the Team League phase of CPL is all wrapped up! This coming week I will have quite a few short broadcasts, that I will try to keep you guys posted about. This coming Sunday, expect two broadcasts shortly after the first set of Playoff games - one by me, and one by L_Master!
Another thing to look forward to is a totally revamped Liquipedia which will be more streamlined, and with extra statistics and stuff. Also, there is a surprise brewing...

Apologize on all my bad play, playing once a week really doesn't lend itself to doing all the intended things
To your former point: one of the things I am definitely considering. It's hard to parse skill into any category consistently, especially being not much better than the average player in this league. But it is doable if it was not so "on the fly" during the last broadcast given my limited abilities. I will do my best to make it work for playoffs!

IMPROTANT NOTICE Please please PLEASE send your replays to lazersnipe as soon as possible after your Playoff matches this weekend! We will be casting them on the same day in two sequential broadcasts - more details will be announced soon!

We will be casting #2 seed team vs. #5 seed, Magical Ponies as they vie for a place in the Finals, and eventually the opportunity to face Drag n' Herb in the Grand Finals!
Immediately after that, broadcasting Semi-final 2 wiil be L_Master! Be sure to tune in!
**Please note that due to a miscalculation when counting games, these seeds were incorrectly reversed up until today. This has had no impact on the league or the setting up of the matches. It has been corrected in the standings on the first page and on Liquipedia.
IMPROTANT NOTICE Please please PLEASE send your replays to lazersnipe as soon as possible after your Playoff matches this weekend! We will be casting them on the same day in two sequential broadcasts - more details will be announced soon!
Congratulations to MAGICAL PONIES and TEAM ASSIMILATE for winning in the first week of playoffs! The 2 teams will face off for some more CPL action next week to earn the right to face the league champs DRAG 'N HERB in the grand finals! Good luck to both teams!
All good things must come to an end....for some of us
I wish # t e a m could of went a little further, but I am overall happy with how we progressed during the season and so proud of what we accomplished. Having said that, some shout-outs and notes:
* Big shout out and thank you to lazersnipe. This man has organized the best league in BW at the moment, bar none. It helps that the pansy ass foreigner cry babies aren't in it. Love it man. Keep it up. I am a fan for life.
* Thank you to all the casters, organizers, and behind-the-scene people who make everything possible but rarely get any credit. I don't know all of you and don't want to leave anyone out, so I'll just say thank you to all of you. I truly appreciate everything you do and have done and will do.
* Big shout out to my coaches. Jealous and Faust. You guys were great coaches (in my opinion) and I have learned a lot from you. You have been very supportive of me and that is not something I take lightly.
* Big shout out to my team, t e a m, the best team. You guys are all cool as fuck and I have learned a lot from you and with you. I thoroughly enjoyed playing with you guys and enjoyed our downtime even more. In no particular order, f10eqq, fazek, qikz, xloctis, lmaster, zelderan....hell even tinyreaver and tankgirl, who never showed up. Thank you guys so much. You have definitely given me a lot more than I could ever have given you, even though you might not know it. I appreciate you.
* To all the other teams and players in the league: thank you and good luck. Thank you for our games and for showing love and being some cool people; most of you anyway Good luck to everyone else in the rest of the tour. I am going to be watching and supporting you all as best I can. I am always here if you need someone to smash and boost your ego or want to receive some nonsense advice from a novice
*** Oh and I shouldn't encourage catfishing but big shout out to Faust and Cadenzie. Your weird relationship creeps me the fuck out and turns me on at the same time. You guys give me hope and I hope you keep it going. I'll come to the wedding....as long as it's open bar (don't be cheap; please and thank you) and Faust wears a kilt and there's golf and bagpipes there, too (and anything else that's stereotypical Scottish).
On a side note, I don't know how many of you tuned in to the cast I was on but I enjoyed that and hope to do it again in the future. I enjoy offending and cybering....occasionally both. Let your voices be heard and demand more of evilEye; I won't disappoint you....unlike the women in my life.
On another side note, I normally just play alone and do whatever. This league has allowed me to meet many cool people and brought me some exposure in knowing a lot of people in the scene. This is priceless to me. I will pay it back by continuing to improve and give back whatever I can to the community....all you gotta do is ask! I promise this is not the last time you will hear/see me.

So much awesome in this post, echoing the sentiment! Evileye besting all the players at playing and at writing things up.
Also wanted to give a shoutout to all the participants in the league, keep playing BW, keep improving and enjoy the atmosphere!
- i think it's okay to fast forward (2x, 4x) a replay when it becomes blatantly one sided. I like how you keep respect for all the players, but out of respect for the viewer, i think we could watch the end of a failed ling all in a bit faster.
- on giving ratings: if one player is playing D/D+ level, I don't think you can regard the other player as anything above C. There is just no opportunity for the better player to show his skill if all he needs to do is hold some all-in end then roll over. How is level A macro different from level C, if all you need is make some speedlots + archons and topple the other over?
I can see what you're trying to do with the rating, but I think it's just not possible on single matches. How about you give each player a top (this was great!) and a tip (this could be better)?
Overall I do like your casting style, especially for this kind of event. You seem relaxed, good voice, and I like how you give pointers for the audience as they play.

Thank you for your feedback and compliments, both are greatly appreciated. I do sometimes x2, but I try not to do it often because frankly I feel that time can be spent talking about something more theoretical about why their approach was flawed. If the player is staying in the game, coping, raging, whatever, I want to stay in the game too and try to understand what we just saw; even if I went into detail about most things in the match, I am certain that I am missing a lot of things about that particular match in particular and of course many other things about the game in general that I could talk about. When I fast forward, even if a player is dead in the water, they can still do something good that can be complimented or foolish that should be added to the list of failures, IMO. As we are now in the play-offs/finals, I find it even more difficult to justify speeding up the games, but I will definitely keep this point in mind.
As for the ratings, I see your point there as well, and I did mention that as well in one of the broadcasts I think. However, I think that we can look at it from a different perspective - if they made no mistakes thus far, does that not justify an "A" rating? If an assignment is exceedingly easy, you can still make mistakes on it and get a lower grade, and probably be graded more harshly on it; however, if you do everything perfectly, then in my eyes you deserve an "A" in the confines of this league.
For the rating system, I only recently implemented it based on other people's feedback. In the past I did what you mentioned - just talk about the game, point out the good and bad things. I think there are pros and cons to both. Now that I've started though, I feel like removing it half-way through the playoffs would be almost taking a step backwards so I think I'll be keeping them in They are all subjective, anyway, and I am by no means a progamer myself so I feel the amount of weight you want to put on them is whatever confidence you have in my analysis haha

Jealous has informed me he will be unable to cast today due to a personal situation that has occurred. I tried contacting Lmaster as well, but he's unable to at this time. What will probably end up happening is he will reschedule and cast another time unless we can find someone else to cast soon.
Herbmon and evilEye will be casting The Finals between Magical Ponies and Team Assimilate. They will be going live in about 25 minutes! The winner of which will go on to face Drag 'n Herb, the league champs, in the Grand Final!
Hey guys! I'm around but I don't have my stream set up and I don't really know anything about the event so I'm not sure I can do it solo. I'll get in touch with Jealous and try to set up another time.

Too bad it didn't work out. Maybe you can do the grand finals.
Congratulations to TEAM ASSIMILATE for winning in this week of playoffs! They will now go on to play against the league champions in the GRAND FINALS: DRAG 'N HERB. Check in next week to see if they have what it takes to take down the league champs! Best of luck to both teams in the finals!
I want to say thank you to everyone who is involved with this league! I learnt a lot during the casts, practices and generally I liked this league a lot. I have better knowledge and understanding of the game than at the beginning of this league. For example, I didn't know simple fact that drone has attack range longer than lings.
Usually I don't have time to play in leagues. This time I tried to find it and It was pleasure to play under the coach ty2. Unfortunately for last week I couldn't prepare because of marriage of my friend. I played the builds mostly suggested by my coach. With proper work they all could work. Ty2 always finds best builds so that even noob like me can win
My teammates all are great. Especially DNH is beast --- I believe one of the best players of league, who also always finds time for practices whenever I ask.
What a great league and awesome finals. Best BW decision of my life. Big thanks to lazersnipe for putting this together. Jealous for sweet casts. Dragon and Seri for being the best coaches yo. Competitors for putting up a good fight. Finally my teammates for being very active practice partners and annoyances. Much love!
I would like to give a big thank you to everyone who participated in, helped with, or just enjoyed watching/tuning into the occasional CPL games! All things considered I'd like to think the league was great for the community and a success. Thank you all for being a part of CPL season 1!
