I'm stoked. Many great journeys ahead for all competitors!
I'd love to see Woongjin make it deep into this tournament but on the other hand if they fall to Shinenigans seeing a rematch against Bisu would be half a consolation. Still, I expect them to pull through. The Bisu v. Last match will be an absolutely top-tier craziness but I think with ggaemo there instead of Tyson (was it?) Team Bisu will stand tall.
CJ can't stop the Jangbang. On the other end, I hope Flash doesn't do an all-kill but they still win, with Stork contributing a lot. Can't stop rooting for the dino.

Yea, same. I didn't like Camelot very much but I am glad to see new maps being made and used.
On that line of conversation, is there any backstory provided to the name "Uzi sara?" It doesn't even seem like a Korean word combination but I'm no expert.

I think it's a reference to the planets Mar Sara and Chau Sara from the campaign.

Lol you will not be impressed with how I came up with the name...
First of all, you know the show Ed, Edd and Eddy? Well you know how Eddy has a sister named Sarah? You know that she is kinda crazy? Well when I first began work on the map I had a dream and she was in it. She had an uzi. For some reason that image stuck with me for the next several days... Well the combination of the words Uzi and Sarah sounded cool to me for some reason, and I thought it might be cool for a map name. Not only that but because it also sounds like Mar Sara from the Starcraft lore.

lol this. I can imagine the commentators making the wrinkled-forehead wtf face as some producer tells them the story of Ed, Edd and Eddy.
Also, I find it funny how JangBi is basically in SKT; BeSt, Rain and Captain Hyuk. Bisu JD Mind and ggaemo. I wonder this team will turn out.

This is an amazing story and we hope it becomes immortalized in broodwar lore. When people talk about the first time a foreign map was used in a korean league, they will tell the story of how it was named after ed, edd, and eddy.

Lol I feel I'm pretty bad with naming my maps. I mean Gemlong is a similar idea to Uzi Sara in how I came up with the name, I thought I saw it on stream and I thought it was a romanization of a Korean word, so without knowing the meaning I decided on the name merely because I thought it "sounded cool" at the time.
Heartbeat was originally called "Feel my Love" and the guys at BWMN suggested it be an actual name instead of a phrase, but I was stubborn and kept my version named like that.

Shine was behind almost the entire game. He was WAY behind after the opening.
He did a good job coming back with Mutas in the mid game and was probably slightly ahead for a little bit, but never by much. He staved off death multiple times with some great play (such as going all in on killing Light's only Science Vessel with his Mutas, then pulling a Hold Lurker), but he never pulled back ahead once Light marched out of his base again after the Muta harass.
Zerg killing tons of Terran units doesn't mean much when the Terran units are right outside Zerg's base or even in Zerg bases half the time.

I'm not buying it. At the 22-minute mark, just before the drop into the main, Shine has four bases, at least three of which are well-saturated. Light has only his original two bases, both of which are within a minute or two of completely mining out. After the Wraith gamble Light's entire army consists of the two full Dropships and an additional group of infantry outside Shine's nat. He didn't have any Science Vessels because he had spent all his Starport production time on the Wraiths.
If Shine catches the double drop before it unloads or simply has ling upgrades so that the lings he already had in position can kill the mnm as they unload, that play leaves Light with nearly no army and a base that he has almost no hope of defending against Defiler/Lurker/ling with no Irradiate. He would have just died within the next couple of minutes from having no economy left.
I'll be casting the rest of the days live on Twitch. Couldn't get to it today because of personal stuff, but I'll be on point for the rest of the event.
Very impressive game 3 by light. After being completely shut down, losing all his scv's at his natural and being contained for a long time, he misreads shine's build and prepares for guardians. After that, he sends drop after drop after drop, continually trying to deal damage and being annoying enough to stay in the game. After that, his main and nat mine out and he takes a very exposed mineral only and doesn't defend it, realizing his only chance in the game is to hope that shine never decides to attack it. The dropship play continues until he just barely manages to kill shine's 4th and start attacking the third.
Lots of luck through shine's misplays, but also very impressive constant pressure to come back.

yeess yess and yesss... Game 3 was very very intense and weird, I just haven't seen that many zvt as hilarius and entertaining as this one, there was a point in the crazy game when crazyness happened not only 1 or 2 but 3 times in a metter of seconds + Show Spoiler +
plague on wraith, 1 drop kill to scourge, 2 drop succes on z
and both Last and the other guy stayed like paralyzed for seconds trying to figure out what in the hell was goin on, didn't even knowing how to react... ha I can't recall laughing so hard while watching a bw game alone in my house as I just did. It would be cool to have it translated, not only for the gosuness of the game and what could be a very cool insight by Last of it but also for the incredibly high level of entertainment and fun it provides.

Cool! I used them to add to liquipedia results. Can someone put this event to Ongoing section there? Also it's written Ginyuda on liquipeida but on stream he's Ginewda, which one is correct?
Monte Cristo always produces such wacky games, gotta love it.
I didn't expect team Bisu to lose in the first place but they lost so hopelessly that totally surprised me. Mini might have all-killed them if not for that 2 cent storm.

I've noticed it was first referred to as Ginyuda on TL and on the caster's YouTube it says Ginewda, so I went with that spelling for VODs instead. And I wasn't able to find any related Liquipedia article, but now I found it. Thanks!

Tbf, "Ginyuda" is probably more correct considering that it's a play on the Ginyu Force from DBZ, but it's always better to stick with the caster's/player's own branding (Ginewda). It's pronounced the same in Korean, so it's just a difference due to transliteration.

Yeah it was pretty one sided which was sad, was hoping they would last longer. I was very curious about Jaedongs decision to 3 hatch before pool at 3 different bases. I figured he had some sort of plan, but he just let his third die after throwing lings into the main. I would have been shocked had he come back.

Yeah, I'm not sure what he expected was going to happen. You can't just go 3-hatch before pool into standard mutas or Terran can literally just walk across the map and kill your base. I guess he hoped the ling counterattack would be enough to delay the first MM force until mutas came out? But the spire wasn't even finished by the time Last moved out of his base.
Tbf, though, Last played everything perfectly today. Perfect decision making to go with the 2rax opening in response to triple hatch before pool and set up that timing. Firebats were a little late and didn't block off the ramp correctly, but overall, Last seemed pretty prepared for everything.

I think Jaedong expected him to go fast engineering bay, but Last went 2 rax academy instead which he does occasionally. The ling backstab would've been more effective then as Last couldn't reliably defend as well w/ fewer barracks and his push would be weaker. It looked like JD took another gamble sunkening up his natural only, expecting Last to go for a jugular kill.

Hyuk stops his team getting all killed with a 3 hatch +1 carapace lurker into 4 gas ultras ling defiler to overwhelm Mong before the mech switch fully kicks in!
Skyhigh beats Hyuk with a 1-1-1 (not the sink) into bio.
Terrans initial bunkerrush was thwarted by the Zergs impeccable drone control. Although Hyuk was forced to venture his drones onto the map, he managed to clean up the cute placed marines from his natural mineral line.
Skyhigh unnecessarily showed his hand by moving out his initial vulture from behind his wall; telegramming Hyuk that there was no fast expansion. The vultures did nothing but force Hyuk into hydras. The subsequent wraiths also did naught but allow Skyhigh to dictate the game. His vulture drop was denied, too.
And THEN Skyhigh made a science vessel (to the old-school this was nothing weird; FireBatHero had done something similar back in the days vs Savior and all that old-people-talk).
Hyuk transitioned logically into lurker-ling, but his hive was greatly delayed. Skyhigh transitioned beautifully into bio. With a 5 tank 3 vessel push when Hyuk only had hydra-lurker-ling, Skyhigh denied the Zergs --well executed-- flank, and with that, the battle, the game and the match.

it is Britney and they do look very much alike, was surprised to note it recently.
Well, today Ginyuda said something about final.(maybe 8/2?) He communicate with AfreecaTV now. He wants to hold final in AfreecaTV PC Bang to use SC:R. But it is not fixed plan. Just possibility. He considers 2 options now. 1. PC Bang 2. AfreecaTV Studio
Most of the matches today were great. Does someone have a gif of the moment BC's get annihilated? I haven't laughed this hard for some time now the way they just appeared and disappeared was something like a good piece of stan and pan slapstick humor.
Would be cool to see it on SC:R so soon after it came out just as a proof of concept/to get that early tournament action, but yeah, I bet none of the players would be too onboard unless they got a special SC:R fee LOL.

Yeah, as far as I know. KHJ will probably update us whenever they find out. I think it depends on if they can get into the AfreecaTV studio for a live match or if they'll do it at a PCbang (or online :/ ).
I agree Keniji. I like the free expand you can get in your base. Makes the game a little different. I can't wait to see Soulkey play. Loved watching his during ASL 3.
Its like watching an action war-movie, not scene by scene, but with an overview of the whole battle. Yeah, its a reason why that never happens. You could say that this is not a movie, but a strategic game where more information is only for the good.
The problem with that point is that you can only ever focus on one "block" of the battle at a time anyways. So where previous an observer did that job for us, moving the "scenes" quickly throughout the battle and giving us a "narrative" of the overall battle and providing a certain suspense for the "scenes" not yet revealed, we are now left to ourselves. We cannot kick back and take in the scenes as they come, but have to do the job of deciding what part of the battlefield to focus on ourselves. I though that was the observers job? And its a bummer for whatever "action-feeling" and shared experience we as spectators are aiming at. Not to mention the uneasy feeling of shifting prespective from one where you are close up on the details, to one where you have to move from your accustomed sitting position to get closer to screen, just to see what the hell is going on!
And what about the commentators? What are they supposed to commentate and hype, when its not obvious to the viewers what they are referring too? Like the shuttle pickup from Snow in that last battle, saving both his reavers from a mine, a real hype moment that just got drowned in everything else going on.
I can see your point. I did like the zoom out in some of those big battles though. But not being able to focus on coll plays like the shuttle save is a good point.
Great to see Flash kicking back with the commentators having a good laugh.
Last season's ace match hero was this season's fodder. Nice try SK
@above, I thought I was the only one even partly annoyed by that. It gives a cognitive dissonance watching the main screen and minimap where I thought the obs was.

Yeah, that is a good point. And it really does not serve any big purpose that i can think of.
Wonder why Terrans don't use lockdown against carriers. It's not like it's a hard switch that takes too long....maybe not for initial timing if it doesn't get delayed much like in this game, but for whatever follow-ups...

APM requirement. It's the same reason ghosts never saw much use. They're too APM intensive and if you mess up you're screwed. Same reason only really Boxer/Oov and FanTaSy used them vs Arbiters.

I have seen several games where Mong has used them to win vs carriers. I'm not denying that they are hard to use, but isn't that the point with practice? I just feel like there is a lot of lost potential there.
All of the GTB games have been uploaded to YouTube with match name + maps. You can watch the full broadcasts at the top of the playlist or skip down and watch the games individually! Apologies that it's not spoiler-free...I wasn't able to figure out an efficient way to do that, but I hope you enjoy nonetheless.
