Cool initiative man! It's running at the same time as HAY, but there's a lot of people who likely wouldn't sign up to HAY and will sign up to this :>
|
update: +$15 added to the prizepool.

I don't think that's important for this tournament. It's a nitch market, nobody from HAY will play in this and vice versa. Good luck!

It's good that it's the same time! There's probably lots of people not wanting to join tournaments like that and this is something for them!
Besides, there's so many tournaments now that it's near impossible to not clash.

It has to be less than 1400 MMR?
What if someone has 1700 MMR but with 7-3 stats? That's only 10 games played, can I sign in or not really?

to enter at least one of the accounts linked to the b.net ID you signed up with must have 20 or more ladder games played and all of them have to be below 1400 MMR when you sign up.
an exception can be made if say: your main account is 40W/35L and 1300MMR and you have another account with 1500MMR but it only has 4 games on it 2W/2L. In that case I would let you enter.

In this specific case the answer is: No. The 7-3 account is too highly rated. It also doesn't have enough games on it. Even if it was 9-10 with 1200 MMR - you need at least 20 ladder games played on a single account.

on a more serious note, sounds like fun tho! hope someone will be able to stream the bloodbath matches.

Udate: change date!
tournament pushed back one week to september 9, 2017
it seems there is a lot going on this weekend and only 1 person signed up.
However: it is certainly happening next week, if there is still only 1 entrant in a week -> free prize money for top 3!

People smurf. It happens. They get booted. Nothing new. If someone goes through the trouble of making a 20 game sub 1400 ladder account then lol.

OP goodluck with the tournament! would be cool to see someone cast this just for the funs.

nice idea for a tournament, i will tell my "students" to play some ranked games so they qualify ^^
|
I always think it's a bit risky having a newbie tournament with a prize pool but gl.
Having it be a weekly thing and getting pts for placing every week and having a payout at the end of a "season" or something might be good? But anyway, it's your or whoever's money, and definitely support the idea of a tournament for newer/lower level players.
|
There should be APM limit, all the rest is questionable. For beginner i think no more than 90-100 apm. Probably even lower if u really want to make an event for beginner.

I've seen absolutely horrible players with 300 apm so I don't agree that this would be a good metric.
You could play with 40 apm and be well above 1400 mmr.

Udate: The tournament will be observed and streamed in super high quality at 60 fps by elite streamer Jugachi over at: twitch.tv/themeathon
With commentary by Greth and TL.FlaShFTW - vods will uploaded to youtube.com/themeathon.

is there a tournament today or just next week? because TL lists you as upcoming events

I will tune in to some Beginner action

Apparently someone added it to the event calendar without my knowledge, before the date change - I just noticed and it should be fixed now.

That map is hella pretty and it's gonna be hilarious watching noobs tangle with the Assimilator mechanics. Now I'm hype.

There are entrants with lower mmr than you; ofc mmr isn't everything.

Busy this weekend but will definitely participate next time!

Im still not happy with bloodbath in the pool. Beginners are beginners but should play on legitimate maps.
Gold rush will be hilarious. Cant wait to see how they expand. Next time we need monty hall and triathlon in the map pool

damn, I am a beginner and I love the initiative, but my mmr floats between 1500-1600. If this goes well, is there a chance for a tournament around my skill level?

Yes the Beginner Club has already hosted 2 small "Intermediate" level tournaments in preparation for this.

I started wit BW ~4months ago and reache max 1800points on ladder.

maybe stream in 720p next time? was unwatchable for me, sadly, since it kept buffering
EDIT: After watching a bit of the archived stream. I can say, that this tournament is amazing. For future tournaments though, please dont zoom out all the time. Edit2: And the casters should try to keep a positive attitude for more than one game.

The twitch channel didn't have the usual quality options because it had not been active - so everyone was forced to watch the super high quality 60 fps stream. It was smooth for people with a good internet connection.
Casting is hard okay.. I think the commentary was super enjoyable!! For future tournaments, I'm thinking there should be more casters and a schedule so no one has to go through the ordeal of talking for 5+ hours straight.
You're right about the zoom levels! It was the first time for our observer and he was just figuring things out

I will be posting it in the Brood War > Tourneys section of teamliquid.
Alternatively you could come join the Beginner Club discord, any tournaments hosted by us are also announced in an anouncement channel there.

We were very positive actually. But you can't carry a cast of a newbie tourney on analysis. You either point out mistakes or you ignore them - if you ignore them, you create a false narrative. If you keep summing up the mistakes then that will be all you are doing for the whole thing.
We casted with a sense of levity and for the most part encouragement. We weren't angry, we weren't putting the players down - the situations they find themselves in were funny and it is important to see it as such.
Learning brood war is all about losing in a thousand ways, because of a thousand harrowing mistakes. To quote from my vidrep thread:
It might sound weird, but it's important to make light of the situation. I think, historically, I've been the only one to show the way BW is played by 99% of the player population. It's important to show what kind of game the 'real people' are playing. A lot of the C and beyond players are far too serious about this game, there is no relief from the constant drive for competition that only very few people will have. It's important to find those players and help them satisfy their need to get better, but for all the other players it's first important to learn to be at ease with being bad at having fun with the game. Being serious and competitive about BW full-time will eventually destroy you. The levity of the casual side is important
If the players themselves can't find the humour, can't find the (god forbid) fun in the process they are going through ... Then chances are they aren't going to stick around for long anyway.

Hey guys,
I loved the last tournament . Do you expect to do another beginner tournament? I'm stuck into 1200-1300 mmr and i'd like to do another tournament ( no need for money IMO).

Oh hi, sorry I've not been checking TL.
I want to continue running tournaments but I'm pretty taxed in terms of money, time, and energy at the moment - as I'm in the process of moving. Right now I'm thinking we should be back sometime in december~

This is very cool, thank you for being envolved!!

Watching the VOD, and damn it looks so much fun! Reminds me of LAN party tournaments we had as kids!

Oh, an idea - island maps for beginner matches are fun as hell too (small island maps for quicker games though)
