Here we are boys! ZOTAC CUP will be hosting StarCraft: Remastered tournaments in the next few months
So tell your friends, significant other, family, enemies, whoever... let's make this a successful tournament series!
If the community feels strongly about certain changes, we can definitely try to accommodate them. I would love to hear all your feedback or any questions/concerns any of you might have.
ZOTAC CUP has something pretty BIG in the works for StarCraft:Remastered. I'll be posting weekly updates about the tournament so be sure to follow to get the latest scoop:
twitter.com/zotaccup facebook.com/zotaccup
** Disclaimer: This is all contingent on finalization of the Blizzard licensing, but so far, we're pretty much good to go.
Total Prize Pool: Each tournament will have their own $600 Prize Pool. - 1st: $300 - 2nd: $120 - 3rd/4th: $90/$90
sounds awesome, but please change Nostalgia for a more modern map like Jade Matchpoint Overwatch,2 players map could be cool since the ladder is missing that.
Wow, thats is such a great news. May be reconsider prize pool distribution? It looks too 1st place heavy, while 3rd/4th place just 25% less then 2nd place. I suggest 1st 280, 2nd 140, 3/4th 90.

From what I understand it's region locked.
I'm guessing so. But how will this tournament organizers collect Korean players? feel like there's gonna be only 2 or 3 max in South Korea region tournament on Sept 30th.
I just don't understand the thinking behind making Nostalgia. It's so clearly imbalanced. The center land mass is irregularly shaped and has asymmetric building terrain on it... Like, isn't symmetry of maps important for fair pathing?
You could replace one or two of these maps with ASL4 maps. Also scan it means that there are going to be three region locked qualifiers which will lead to a global cup.
On September 07 2017 18:48 sc19980331 wrote: Good news, why not create a poll for map pool selection?
I'am definitely open to this as long as we do this before the launch of said tournaments.
On September 08 2017 02:20 Eywa- wrote: Question, is the prize for the global cup or for each of the QF?
Yes, each tournament will have it's own set of $600.00 USD prize pool.
These tournaments will be region locked; however, we probably wont be able to guarantee if individuals will be able to use VPN's to bypass the lock. There are some concerns with lag during the global event. We've chose European servers because it seems to be the best servers to host a "Global" tournament.
Regarding Nostalgia, if the community can settle with a certain map to replace it. We can go with that, please let me know here and we'll make the adjustments.
i would say that the only bad thing is using the crap ladder map pool, would be better if ASL4 maps are used instead, or use the most balanced maps like Circuit breaker, Match Point, Colosseum , Tau Cross, Blue storm, etc.

Again, this can be changed as long as the community agrees. One reason for choosing the ladder map pool was to cater to new players who started playing SC:RM (trying to make it noob friendly). We definitely would not mind changing a few to accommodate both new and old.

It's understandable, but you also have to understand that Nostalgia is horribly outdated and everyone vetos it on ladder. Just replace that one and i guess everyone is fine with the rest. I think a 2 player map is what is missing to give the tournament a well rounded map pool. Most popular ones would be Blue Storm or Destination, a more modern one would be Match Point.

Most competitive foreigners are well known, you should be able to quite easily region lock the tournament and weed out any abusers, the threat of being banned from their local event and any future ones should be enough of a deterrent.
With Brood War you can compare replays, hotkey usage and habits to determine a player's identity with near certainty.

Hmmm... I understand, but this might actually be pretty hard to accomplish since this will be the first SC:RM tournament Battlefy will conduct.
I really like that you decided to use the ladder map pool (+circuit breaker), since it's what everyone is practicing on while playing ladder. The only thing that you could improve is remove nostalgia and add a 2 player map, like blue storm, destination, heartbreak ridge, or whatever is considered a good 2 player map nowadays.
Or, since tau cross seems to be popular in the poll above, replace Arcadia with a 2 player map instead.

Hopefully, we'll have the sign up link soon on Battlefy. Stay updated via our ZOTAC CUP twitter or here.
On September 10 2017 03:57 HaN- wrote: Who is going to cast this? Are you looking for casters?
We're actually not planning on casting any of these games except probably the Global. If you'd like to cast it you're more than welcome to PM me. We're more than happy to have volunteers to cast this.

Yes, this is still happening but we might have to push everything back a week. Stay tuned, I'll have the updated dates soon. Sorry for any inconvenience guys!
Hey guys, sorry it took so long, we had a lot of things that needed to be checked off before we could proceed with the tournaments. Due to many voting for the change, we've decided to replace Nostalgia with Tau Cross. Without further a do, here is the registration link for the Americas region tournament this weekend:
Hello Legionnaire, more than likely USA, but I will have to check with Battlefy. How is the latency for you guys when playing on NA servers?
Aus vs NA is generally Fine connection wise.
Hey Legionnaire, the Americas tournament will be this weekend on Saturday 1200PM PDT. You can join that (http://bit.ly/2fB1nUp) I'll let the Battlefy staff know that Aussies will be playing in this tourney! Thanks for your interest and best of luck to ya!

This is correct. Currently, we do not have the times set for the EU tournament, we'll be announcing that shortly in early next week. Sorry for the delay and thank you for your patience guys!

First, I wanted to thank you all for those who have participated in the NA tournament! It's very heart warming to see so many participating in a decade+ old game. Great job guys & girls!
Regarding the dates, I apologize but the dates were always tentative, there were still things that needed to be ironed out with Blizzard. I apologize for the changes but as of now we do not for see it changing any further for Korea to be on November 11.
We will have the times for Europe early beginning of the week. I will update this immediately after this information becomes available.
Also, in the future, the tournaments moving forward will be double-elim. Everything in the original post should be pretty much set in stone. Thank you all again for both your patience and enthusiasm.
For the EU tournament this weekend: Check-In will start at 12:00PM GMT+1 (UK Time) / 1:00PM CEST Tournament will start at 1:00PM GMT+1 (UK Time) / 2:00PM CEST
Hey guys, I'm checking on the regions at the moment. We're just worried that these regions might cause some latency issues when playing on the EU servers, if this is not true, certainly let me know. Regarding the casting of this ZOTAC CUP we're currently in talks with some interested casters. We'll let you know shortly when we have something more concrete. Thank you all!
Update: Russian and Ukraine has been added to the tournament! :D

This is for each Tournament. So each one would have its separate prize pool.

i don't know how its possible for players to play 5 bo5's in a row in top shape (assuming you start from losers all the way to finals).
Hmm... What kind of format does everyone prefer? We can definitely change this moving forward. I would love to hear all your thoughts on this! Thank you
Congratulations!! Here are you EU ZOTAC CUP Champs! Thank you all for participating. The ZOTAC CUP will be on hiatus until November returning with Korea and Global.
I just wanted to say that you guys are an awesome community, one that I've thoroughly enjoyed talking to and working with. Stay awesome!

Well, imo best of 3 all the way to the semis/final. Maybe first few rounds bo1.

Honestly from my perspective if it's double elim it should be bo1 all the way to losers final (bo3) and bo3 all the way to winners final (bo3) then 2 best of 3s for the final (aka if winners finalist wins one, it's game over, if losers finalist wins it resets the bracket).
Sayle and I were casting for just over 9 hours yesterday and bonyth had to wait about 4 hours for the grand finals.
Winners bracket was fine, although I think bo5 should only be in winners final, not in semis. Whole LB should be bo1 except LB final that should be bo3.
Here's the VOD from my channel yesterday. Has in it all games I casted personally - then all the games Me and Sayle solo casted.
Had a few hiccups wiith the Overlay yesterday, but I know what I need to do to improve it. Thanks to anyone who tuned in and thank you Zotac for organising the event!

I highly doubt he was trying to single you or anyone out. Moreso the point he was trying to make. You still had games in the LB while Bonyth had to wait.

yup a zvz series then play him,i did watch a movie and walk my dog,and still need to wait for koget vs trutacz,i guess i was lucky koget trutacz did play bo3 (same case for me and trutacz)so we didnt actually play bo5 as was expected at first, thanks admins for that ah not only that,i actually need to wait for bonyth aswell cuz he was gone ^^
Bo1 in the early winner bracket, so you get kicked to loser bracket so fast with one fail game or if you die to a cheese vs a lower opponent. And then you have to play Bo3's and even Bo5's all the way up to the loser bracket final? And the finalist from winner bracket has to wait 4 hours? :O
As said, this ought to be modified for the next event

I wasn't trying to single you out. Didn't realise you were waiting so long (that whole evening is a blur)!
What actually happened in this event? I watched mind's fpvod of the event, catch it here if you want Finals start at 2:48
In the finals he plays some protoss who zealot rushes and looks like he's never played a ranked game in his life. Mind wins 1-0 with ease and then that's it but the finals show 3-0? How did this guy make it to the finals?? It looks like only 14 players registered and mind was the only real competition of the group, what happened?
Wtf happened there? This event could have easily gathered 500 if not more participants, and 14 ppl register. Poor zotac, someone forgot to tell people there was a tournament.
I apologize for the late update on this thread Scan; however, I'm pretty sure myself alone have been to your twitch stream at least 3-4 times asking if you would be participating in the ZOTAC CUP Korea. I've even posted in your chat, the link to sign up.
Unfortunately, the number of participants were disappointingly low. There will be a regular ZOTAC CUP Global tournament next weekend as well as the last ZOTAC CUP Masters Qualifiers for the NA region.

Out of curiosity, on which Korean forums / platforms did you advertise? Teamliquid.net is basically 99% only non-koreans.

To be 100% honest, I do not know, we had our ZOTAC Korea team handle the promotion for this tournament.
