Turn rate - TR12 is the default. Players can agree to use any turn rate.
Player eligibility - No Korean or Chinese IP addresses. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis at the tournament admins' discretion. No, Scan is NOT allowed to play.
Players may change race between games. Random is allowed.
DQ time is 15 minutes. Please be careful of the B-net chat bug!
If there is a disconnect, replay the game unless one player disputes (due to having a large advantage). Then, a TL admin must watch the replay and make a decision to regame or give the win. TL admins have the final decision in ALL situations.
I'm working on some casting tools for the community. I want to make them super sleek. Casters let me know if you want a sneak peak / be my beta tester(s). I'm talking about player vs player overlays, match tables etc.

Great content boyz
Thanks man. That really means a lot!
I'm really looking forward to this. I really am honoured to be a part of it!

Why though?
considering the amount of tourneys available with koreans(or at least scan) allowed, can we please let this happen without the drama that always comes along with these questions?
on topic-- Can't wait! Nice of you to let us know almost a week in advance to not plan anything on the coming saturday :D

Honestly, BigFan or Sayle should have just asked ppl for crowd funding or post a paypal link in this thread. Even 5 bucks from 100 people would give you 500. I will donate as well.

180$ tourney is that bad wow,not long ago we were playing 10$ mini defiler tourneys or 40$ tours. this is incredible you are complaining about prizepool, but hey lets go donate and increase it
Thanks for the offers of donations. I love seeing the enthusiasm and it's what I've could to expect from such an awesome community. However, we are not looking to supplement the prizepool at this moment.

it's actually $200 since 3rd/4th are $20 each.
Why are you turning down offers? What purpose does that serve? Your post is rather dismissive. It's not often people are willing to give away money with no strings attached.

haha ok, i actually like that the prizepool gets the same but what about taking donations to keep making tourneys for a longer period ? this will help more than 1 tourney with a huge prizepool ,so i guess this answer my question that there are more tourneys planned not just one ?
Awesome tournament guys, I love the mappool with current maps, the commentators are great and the prizepool makes it attractive for the players to participate. The top foreign player's skills are pretty damn even and this makes a Scan-free tourny exciting. I'm really looking forward to it. Long live Brood War!
btw. I wonder if you guys got enough stamina to do those marathon-casts every week. If not, maybe a solution would be to just cast the higher rounds of the tournament; make the tournament start at 6pm but start the cast around 8pm or 9pm to cover ro16 up for example. its just an idea though

Indeed imo i feel it would be cool to see some hardworking bwplayer earn some money.
And if the prizepool gets large it will draw attention from many more players, i really hope they will let us donate

yes, you are right but times change so I thought it would be nice to have another tournament with a decent prize pool. I suspect crowd funding is difficult to organize. Thats probably why donations were not considered.
Another downside of donations is that it increases the expectancy of the following tournaments and would decrease their hype when the donations couldn't keep up.
But really, I hope that BW moves to a future where donations aren't even necessary (as they're not in this tournament).
Some posters have already stated some reasons why we aren't taking donations. The idea of donations came up during our internal discussions and this was the conclusion we reached in the end.
Also, I think having a good distribution of the prize money is important. So long as it is not too top heavy and the top 8 or 16 or w/e (depending on the size of the tourney and available money) get some money back. I think this incentivizes people that don't expect to win the whole thing but know they have a shot of getting far. As the tournament progresses they are further incentivized to keep going further and play at their best for the possible big bucks (yay $50 or something lol)

Or you meant "Korean-free?" Don't pick on me, sir. ^-^
glhf y'all! Hope to see some good foreign terran players!
Holy shit 145 players... Nice. Rooting for all the Terran players just like Scan! (As in, just like Scan also said, that he is also rooting for all the Terran players :D )
not sure if i'll be casting today, getting absolutely no communication with anyone at all. guess i stayed up until 3am for nothing.
edit: may do a solo stream doing replays of non-cast live games but i'm not sure if it's worth the effort, let alone having to rely on people uploading replays to challonge all the time after their matches (which happens maybe 1/4 of the time, if you're lucky)
im "logged in as dragonpain" and then the orange box says sign up, but is x'd out when i mouse over it. At the same time, a msg above tells me im already signed up

doesn't appear so, some ineligible players like shinee are still in the bracket edit: looks like bracket has started, everyone please upload reps after games are done to challonge
Can an admin advance the ro256 match Cr.ZeTy vs. TargetMe? Both are no show and I am in the ro128 waiting on that match. Also this is unplayable on battle.net. This is pure chaos. Should organize a discord to set matches up from now on.
That was fun It's been a long time since I've played in a big BW tournament, man I've missed these
Also many props to the admins for putting up with all the false walkovers, there were a ton of issues with people not being able to contact others due to the stupid chat bug. It's a nightmare but thankfully they were able to get us through it
On October 08 2017 03:02 Jonoman92 wrote: TL should have a mandatory discord to be in. I'm not participating but I know how horrible that chat bug can be.
Yes, I think a tournament discord would really be a huge help for the next iteration of this. Good stuff though, had fun playing and still watching some good games.
Thank you Team Liquid, Sayle, Qikz, Schamtoo, Sensi, everyone else involved and all the players and admins! A foreign broodwar tournament peaking at 1200 viewers... it's so great to see that in 2017!
Thanks to all for putting this on! Happy to see stuff like this in the BW scene!
Agreed on the early round communication issues being a bit of a hurdle (my opponent was not online and didn't speak English, ultimately leading to me going through one of his clan mates just to start the game) but this is a small thing that can be fixed!
A small suggestion. As someone who didn't play a whole bunch of BW back in the day.. I was wondering if some of the more common maps could be starter maps for the earlier rounds. That way us noobs can play on a more recognizable battlefield before we get knocked out :p Had never played on Gladiator before, but look forward to more of this in the future!

Yeah, there were people whispering me, "Hey are you there?" and I'd go, "Yes, what can I help you with?" and then nothing. Also, I know at least two matches in the first and second rounds didn't even get played even though both players were in channel trying to talk to each other. I could see them, but they couldn't see each other, or me telling them to play.
Just want to say a big thanks to anyone who tuned in, played, casted or admined the tournament. I had a blast co-casting with Sayle and I hope everyone enjoyed it!
What happened in Gorynich vs Daishinkai match? It's 0-0 in brackets. Also was surpised to see Mana get so far, even killed Dewault 2-1, he didn't seem to practise much, nice skillz.
On October 09 2017 05:03 atrox_ wrote: anyone got an eta on the replays?
for all of them? i'd say never due to the onus being on players having to upload it themselves onto challonge and there's no reason for them to go out of their way to do so.
Apologies for the delay. As GTR said, we did not require replays to be uploaded but thankfully many players did! The replay pack contains 64 replays from all rounds of the tournament! Thank you to all the players who uploaded their replays!

I picked Circuit Breaker and Gladiator as the starting map for all the early rounds as they are supposed to be the "standard" 4-player maps without any unusual map features. The only other obvious choice to me would be Fighting Spirit, which I personally love but a lot of viewers do not Having said that, we are definitely open to map suggestions! I think it might be interesting to rotate one map from the pool each week. If anyone has any map they'd like to see added (or removed) from the pool, do make a comment!
Regarding the chat issues, we will most likely set up a Discord channel for people to use for the next tournaments. The Battle.net chat bug was definitely a huge issue as well as the limit of 40 people per chat channel (did anybody know about this before Saturday??). Thanks so much to all the players for their patience in dealing with these issues, especially in the early rounds. Also a HUGE thank you to the admins, Trozz, ninazerg, and 739, for their help in managing the bracket and getting games started.
We'll be learning from the issues we faced this time and hopefully make the next TL Open even better!

I think this is a really good idea going forward, since discord is not invasive and super easy for anyone to connect with (click a link, and you're in the channel on your browser). It is unfortunate that we have to result to finding a third party application for communication because of a chat bug, but it is what it is. I would like to make some suggestions for this discord idea though if TL does choose to pursue this route:
1. Make it a mandatory rule that your discord name matches the name submitted on the challonge bracket. - This was an issue in TLOpen where people signed up on challonge with a name that did not match their battle.net ID, which made it next to impossible for people to contact each other. Thankfully, discord can smooth this out and anyone can type /nick "Name" and have it match their challonge name so anyone can contact their opponent with a simple @name. I think this should be enforced pretty heavily and clarified, because it seemed really frustrating from a player perspective, and I can only imagine it was not fun dealing with this issue as an admin.
2. Preventing clutter and spam - I think a little organization can go a LONG way. Have the main landing channel mute normal users and be used for announcements with only admins having the ability to type. Also, I feel strongly that there should be separate channels for each round - ie. #RO256, #RO128, #RO64, #RO32, #RO16, and then maybe a channel that can be used for the Quarter Finals onwards. I think this will help a ton, as having one channel where everyone is spamming and mentioning each other would be almost as bad as Battle.net itself. This way, people who are not in the same round as others can discern themselves and find their opponents a lot easier. An example of why this would be practical is players like myself were waiting on previous rounds to finish and there was really no way for me to know other than constantly refreshing the challonge bracket among the channel spam. Also it is simple and self-explanatory process of organizing the discord, as well as allowing admins to work on cases by round, as well as allowing the casters know which matches are going on in regards to what round.
And yeah, that is more or less my two main suggestions if this happens. I think keeping it super simple is important, so everyone can understand it and find their opponent, so less is more. I think no matter what, it will be an arduous process, but there is no way it can be harder than doing it through battle.net currently with a channel limit and how prevalent the chat bug was.
It's problematic that challonge doesn't allow for the same characters as battle.net. Like I'm LiquidDrone there, and I'm sure people can figure out that LiquidDrone there is Liquid`Drone on bnet. But if we're in different channels, then people trying to message LiquidDrone aren't gonna succeed. However, it's more problematic when people use names that aren't even remotely similar. That should definitely be sorted out.
We can also have organized TLOpen#1 TLOpen#2 etc channels, where it tells people which channel they should go to depending on where they find themselves in the bracket. Discord is a good option for sure, but personally, I'm not a fan of making it mandatory to install third party software to be able to participate in the tourney. The argument that it allows you to sign up with a name that matches your own perfectly is good, though.
How i miss the days where we meet in a BW channel then we report replays in a website uploading them and it added the score automatically where we also find out the oponent nickname that needed to match with the bn id ,iccup did a very good job with the tournament system except the part of elimination bracket .i dont like using third party programs but well this is 2017.
As Qikz said, Discord can be used straight from a web browser. There is no need to install anything. We definitely will ask people to use the same B-net IDs as they use in the brackets though.
