Hey everybody.. I have been a frequent visitor of TeamLiquid for over a decade now. As a side note I just want to say that I am a big fan and love the togetherness of this community. I honestly believe that this site is a major reason why BroodWar is alive to this day.
Ever since the release of SC2, people have been saying that BroodWar is a "dead game" but this has clearly not been the case even before Remastered was released. There are very strong communities that have been split up ever since the shut down of iCCup and Fish servers. There is also a fastest community in USWest
Ultimately, my goal is to bring all communities together so that we, as a BroodWar community, can come together and bring the competitive scene back. I believe what I am about to propose will help increase activity, competitiveness, and also bring entertainment to our audience.
I've seen the tournaments hosted on here and I really like them.
These are just a few things that impress me: how people volunteer to cast, how many viewers a tournament can pull in the amount of signups tournaments get how smooth the tournaments run the skill of A LOT of players
Myself and a team have been working on a site that would allow us to host DAILY CASH tournaments and yet also expand in to something bigger.
These tournaments will be free-entry tournaments on the daily basis, with prizes that range from 8$-20$. We would also like to host big tournaments that'll payout 100$+ but those would be different, more on that later. -Payouts will be sent through PayPal.
We might even host two tournaments a day, it really just depends on the demand. Ultimately our goal is to open a ladder, similar to that of Starcraft's very own.. but our ladder would actually pay a good lump sum of cash for its winners.
My team and I are almost ready to begin hosting these tournaments; we still got a lot of work to do but we'll be grinding and putting in a lot of time so that by a week the LATEST we will be able to start hosting tournaments.
Overall what do you guys think about this idea, and how successful it can become? Will players sign up? Is this exciting for Brood War?
We know times will be a problem but what we're thinking of doing is just hosting TWO tournaments a day; one that will be ideal for KST, and then one later on that day that would be ideal for CT/ET We'll also be hosting a variety of tournaments; such as foreigners only, EU only, NA only, etc.
There is much more that will go in to this, and any questions would be answered because I know I didn't really dive in to detail on a lot of things.
Help: Is there anyone that would be willing to translate from English to Korean?
Any suggestions, critiques, or insults are welcomed
TL;DR. Looking to host daily tournaments for cash, wondering if players would actually participate. Also want to expand in to a site that hosts a free ladder, clan ladder, and wager ladder.

I think having some tournaments restricted to beginner and intermediate player would be good too.
Edit 1: I think daily tournaments sounds really intense. I think there'd be days where only 3 or 4 players sign up. Maybe space them out more like once every tuesday and thursday?

Personally I'm getting to the point where it's really hard to follow all tournaments. STPL + BSL is pretty much maxing out the time i have to consume BW. Anything on top of that is hard to find time to follow. Therefore I'd rather see the money go into making the existing tourneys bigger than making more tourneys. Imagine spot 1-8 all getting decent money instead of just 1-3.

Hi.
Also want to expand in to a site that hosts a free ladder, clan ladder, and wager ladder.
I'm developing the same idea since official ladder is kinda broken. But it was suspended due to some technical issues. May be we could collaborate at programming this thing.
Also there's actually not much to say. It could be good or bad. Everything depends on organization. But one thing is that it is a great idea
Good Luck!

I feel like the player pool BW has is huge, and so i'm thinking that i can host tournaments for KR, then Americas, EU etc. and I feel like on those days, that particular audience will be able to fill up a bracket. But yeah I do agree its intense and i may not be able to get that many people to participate, thats one of my main concerns and definitely understandable

Thanks appreciate that link. Yeaaa thats exactly what im thinking! After a few tournies I'd be able to get a good feel of how things run and so I'd be able to see ways I can improve. But yeah I really wanna have a variety of tournaments hosted, as Ty2 said, begineer tournies and intermediate tournies would be fun to watch, as well as seeing the best of the best go at it

I feel ya on this to be honest. but as far as big tournaments.. those would be a little more spaced out. The daily tournaments would be pretty small tournaments that would accommodate for everyday participants, but then eventually I'd like to host a bigger event with a 100$+ prize pool and casters for finals; but these bigger tournaments would be scheduled and could be finished over the course of a week.
But yeah I do agree everyday may be too intense but I just wanna try things out, host a few of these, and see how they turn out.

I'd definitely play and a new site would be refreshing since the death of gosugamers and Sc2GG and others with regards to broodwar. TL needs a competitor

Bi-weekly sounds a bit more manageable

Definitely understand where you're coming from but I feel like with the variety of tournaments that can be hosted; that certain player pools would most likely be willing to play on that day. After a few tournies, then I can get more specific with things (especially on weekends) by hosting for example: Europe Only tour, Americas only, Koreans only, etc.
I'd also like to say there are still fastest communities that I would like to host tournaments for and so for example maybe on a Monday theres a Low money Tour but then the next one won't be until Wednesday because on Tuesday there's a fastest tournament; and so that would give Low Money players time to register and prepare for the Wednesday tournament. Again thats just an example
We see these first few tournaments as a beta. We just want to see how it goes and how many participants we can get.. and then from there on out we would only improve and expand in to something bigger.

Currently the foreign BW events are invisible to people outside of BW core community. Like you said we have a ton of talents (players, casters, ..) but everybody is doing his thing on his own.
Everybody should rally behind one banner, make something really professional, promote it and have a consistent and long term dedication to it so it grows big enough to get sponsors.
Look at what Warcraft 3 is doing right now, they have this channel https://www.twitch.tv/BACK2WARCRAFT this is what I'm talking about.

Imagine if we had one major Twitch channel where all the action happens. I realize that this is not an easy thing to do but I think that's the direction we should be taking.

Why not run some test tournaments for fun :-) For example: Boring Monday Noobs Cup Only SCR ladder mmr 1500-1700 players allowed.

Yeah man this is definitely what we're hoping to accomplish. Once things get rolling and people see this is for real, hopefully we'll get casters for at least the bigger tournaments get get hosted.

Haha yeah that is something we'd like to do. Once a lot of players begin playing we can start hosting tournies that have MMR requirements
