Yes this is completely different. For most part this IEM is just for entertainment but with prize money awarded to the players and also a spot to the Global final for the winner. These invites are based on beta results and popularity because there was not enough time for them to hold multiple qualifiers. IEM America, Europe and Asia are the qualifiers players will have to go through for a spot at the Globals.

Although I suspect all the Koreans and a good majority of the Asian players are prolly working on that massive GOM tourney x]

Regarding Asian players: I was in contact with both oGs and Prime and unfortunately neither could (or wanted to) afford to send players to Germany on such short notice. I would have loved to invite e.g. Check or Tester. The tournament was announced only ~2 weeks ago and 6 of those players qualified by getting top 3 in Go4SC2 cups. ESL is not covering any travel- or hotel-costs so these Global Challenges favour sponsored players. Although the prize money distribution actually makes it quite a low-risk to attend if you are from somewhere in Europe, for players from Asia the whole travel would have been too costly.

He was by far the best caster esltv ever had...

Dodging mirror match ups has always been pretty common in the Brood War community. Often it's because they're terribly uninteresting compared to the other MUs. I kind of feel like Nani is playing TvP to prove a point though ^^

Also I like how there is a payout separation for 9th-12th. Means there might be some tiebreakers between group losers =P

Regarding MorroW: He is waiting to stand-in for any Terran that cannot manage to come (for example due to visa issues). So he might still be part of the tournament after all. The venue will be huge - gamescom is the biggest gaming expo in Europe and actually used to be bigger than E3 for a couple of times whn it was still in Leipzig. Commentary for Quake Live will be done by Joe Miller and a guest I believe. 2GD left ESL TV about 2 months ago.

It will probably be Joe and someone else (maybe carmac). Edit : Ye dude above confirms. 2GD and Joe are doing quakecon together so check that out.

I know he left ESL TV but that doesn't mean it would be impossible to get him for this event. Day9 is not working for ESL TV either and is commentating SC2. Well I guess Joe isn't that bad either.
