EDIT: Omg wrong section, MODs please move to Sports and games! TY! I know there are some who are still interested in Yugioh out there, but don't play it either due to peer pressure or money, so I decided to show you guys a simple, free way of dueling online! KAIBA CORPORATION VIRTUAL DUELING SYSTEM! (KCVDS) This is a 80mb, simple program that any computer can run. It's easily minimize-able, so it's good for playing fast games, or during times where you're sneak playing from your parents.
Let me show you some features!
This is the main screen, as the game is still in Beta. There is no ladder, friend system, point system, PMs, etc. You simply join public games and duel, like Brood War Battle.net. There are 2 servers, so ignore Server 1 being down. This is actually a good thing, combining the population of the 2 servers into one, making it easier to find duels.
All TCGs cost money to play, as a standard deck in Yugioh should cost you about $80, while a serious duelist could spend up to $1000 on his entire deck. In this game, you can construct a deck of 40-60 cards with any card you want! Even though this may seem broken, it is simply not. Advanced decks take strategy to use, just like StarCraft. Most players who get deck builds online simply have no idea how to use their decks. Not to mention, this does follow the Traditional and Advanced formatting system, which I will explain later. You can hold 5 decks at a time.
For Spanish speaking players, there is a Spanish server. ]
The lobby is pretty easy to use, as you just simply click a game to join. There is a small chat channel on the bottom right to communicate with certain players, or argue over cards =D. (as you can see in the picture lol)
Going first is simple, as it is based on a Rock Paper Scissor System. Technically it's not first, whoever wins gets to choose first or second, but everyone chooses first.
The in game features are pretty obvious, as I will elaborate on specific features after. However, any newbie who knows how Yugioh works should figure this easily.
You can see any card's effect, in case your opponent plays a card you never heard of, or you're double checking something.
Now that I'm done showing you all how this works, I'll elaborate on certain issues.
Hosting/Port Forwarding + Show Spoiler + In-Game Features + Show Spoiler +/coin # -Flip a coin (Heads or Tails) X times e.g. /coin 2 /dice # -Same as the coin, but a 1-6 dice /add # -Add X LifePoints /sub # -Sub X LifePoints Players start out with 8000 LifePoints, however you could ask the opponent to lower/add the default by using the commands above, and if he agrees, great!
Links: Hamachi- (Not required if you can port forward) https://secure.logmein.com/products/hamachi2/download.aspx (download unmanaged) KCVDS Main Website- http://www.kaibacorporation.com/ KCVDS Download- http://www.kaibacorporation.com/viewdownloads.php?dcid=5
I know the website says 0 Online, however it is a bug as the application is still in Beta. If you look at the screenshots, it shows that there are games being hosted. Furthermore, you can also look at the previous announcement.
For new players, the top decks currently are LightSworns, BlackWings, X-Sabers, Six Samurai, Inferinities, etc. X-Sabers are somewhat difficult to use if you're not an experienced player, so I suggest them for later. To be honest, all the forums and blogs say X-Sabers are either broken or top tier, however I have never come across a single one. Also I was hoping for a TeamLiquid KCVDS team, should we keep in contact by Hamachi? Or another program like AIM! Anyways if you're interested, leave your TL ID and KCVDS IGN below! An AIM SN would be nice if you have one! Have fun dueling!

The only thing missing in that application are tokens.

sweet, been looking for some online yugi action that isn't on the DS. The DS games are cool but are so god damn slow the processing is horrid
Cool I'll check this out.
btw, is the metagame still based around power decks? Like how are plant type decks and zombie ones doing? On the DS my plant deck was pretty unbeatable, really strong powerhouses and ones that can summon from your deck. The zombie one was cool because there are a lot of things you can do with it, deck destruction/hand destruction or monster swarming was all possible.

The major plant decks (Debris Hime variants, Quickdraw Dandylion variants) right now are pretty strong, potentially top tier. Zombies as a standalone deck/archetype engine have been dead for a while now, they lost too much (BfDD/Foolish Burial/Mezuki/Allure of Darkness limited, mostly), they don't have consistently explosive graveyard-based swarming anymore. No real reason to play zombies when you can just splash Plaguespreader into whatever deck for consistent synchro access and ditch the rest of the zombie engine.
Also I was under the impression that X-Sabers were considered a pretty scrubby lucksack deck for a while, never really heard anybody say it's a difficult deck to pilot even with Rescue Cat getting banned. Still steals too many games with like, Cold Wave into vomit your entire hand and graveyard onto the field for a billion synchros and then kill them, and if they don't die you strip their entire hand anyways and if they don't topdeck, say, Debris Dragon, you kill them next turn anyways.
|
I tried to play but in the duel he summoned 3 monsters on his first turn and attacked me ,I was able to draw infinite amount of cards and I could normal summon ritual monsters without using rituals and I was able to do all this during his turn... I don't understand anything o_O
|
I play this. Max out your extra deck! I think you could use a few fixes for the deck. +1 Monster Reborn (Obvious Staple) +1 Elemental Hero Stratos (D-Hero engine without this card?) +1 Reckless Greed (Either run 3 or none) +1 Tragoedia (Can change level or steal a monster and sync) +1 Destiny Hero Diamond Dude +1 Mystical Space Typhoon +1 Gale (Just a good card) +1 Call of the Haunted +1 Mystic Tomato
-2 Dark Grephers (You don't need that many) -2 Magical Mallet -2 Destiny Hero Plasma -2 Destiny Hero Dasher -1 Burial From A Different Dimension
I think this would make your deck a lot more consistent, though there is no way to return SD/AM back to the deck, could add a PoA/Transmigration Prophecy back into the deck. Personally, if I were to run a SD/AM deck, I would use Flamvell Beast/Magician combo with Rekindling.
X-Sabers are incredibly easy to play once you know all the effects of your cards. Top decks are now Gravekeepers, X-Sabers, Debris and Quickdraw variants, Blackwings, and Gladiator Beasts. Lightsworn lost their luster after the banlist that really nerfed their milling capabilities. Perfect Herald decks are a crapshoot (either they're really good, or get OTKed before setting up the combos). Scraps are up and coming, and I expect players to play more.
@Dorf Rules are not automated, you have to play by the rules manually.
|
I remember my Yubel deck raping face on this program like a year or 2 ago xD
Good times. The card selection aren't quite as completed and manual actions are a quite a bit more restricted (to the point where certain rules just can't be carried out sometimes, however it's not really that detrimental) compared to YVD, but the interface looks slick and the people working on this are trying quite hard to make it better and better. I remembered when this game was still a buggy POS like some 2 years ago. They had come a long way. I recommend people to give this a try, maybe even have a Teamliquid clan o.O
And someone should play an Exodia turbo on this program lol. Sometime people just ragequit seeing you draw.

Currently, the best zombie deck is a deck of another type with plaguespreader in it lololol.

so it's a cool program a few things I wished it had:
More automated things such as LP changes, special rulings and a lot of other things. Seems like it's really up to the players to determine the rules when some rulings are a bit iffy and hard to understand.
More search options like searching for banned or limited cards. I suppose the description search is pretty decent this way but there is no way to search for banned or limited cards, also no way to search for tuners apparently.
This is all from the perspective of someone who played yugioh on GBA and the DS, it's great how automated those games are and really helps with rulings, card priority, etc.
btw, would be nice to play with some people from TL, no friend system though :X
|
You should edit intro post. Lightsworn is no longer a top tier (or viable tier) decktype at all.
|
What rules are you using/format?
There's over 30 One Turn Kills
and ~15 First Turn Kills ( The opponent doesn't even get to play a card )

So most of the decks I've seen are Lightsworns, Infernities, Blackwing/DaD, and GKs. I've come across some Machinas and Cloudians. Plant Synchros I've come across about 3 times. I myself use a Stardust Assault Deck.
|
I think this sounds really cool, I'm definitely gonna take a look. I've always wanted to build a deck yet never had the money. I've always wanted a metal dragon deck because of cards like Power Bond and Future Fusion.
|
I'll try it out. I bought the last 2 DS games, but I don't like how they become outdated the moment it gets released (2010 didn't get Emmersblade, shame!)
I'm a bit outdated. I know X-Sabers, which I built in the 2010 DS game (without Fullhelm, Boggart, Darksoul, Emmersblade so it was bad but still pretty cool) but I don't know any of the new ones that I've heard people talk about (Scraps, Elec)

So, I saw someone with a Bisu name, must be someone from TL?
|
On December 24 2010 07:25 Phelix wrote: So, I saw someone with a Bisu name, must be someone from TL? lol I've seen a lot of StarCraft names before this post. This game is a great side game, for when you're bored or downloading something, as it doesn't require high bandwidth EDIT: Yes the game is still based on Meta decks, mainly synchros and field swarming.

i played when it first came out, but im too lazy to learn all the new cards =\

Does anyone know if MTG has a program that's like this? The only ones I'm aware of atm are Magic Workstation and Apprentice, both of which are beyond primitive and break all the time.
I haven't played Yugioh since I was 14 but this looks like a pretty nice piece of software for anyone still playing the game competitively. Some friends of mine who continued playing after I quit showed me what the metagame is like and it seemed to me that it was a lot like vintage in MTG. If you had more than 4 digits of $ into your deck you were consistantly killing on turn one or two (two in YGO since you can't attack on turn one if you go first). Is this still true?

Nah, games last much longer than they did last format (though that was a $30 deck, and it was winning without even needing to attack, so first turn.) Right now theres Debris, which is largely a control deck. Theres sabers, which tend to cold wave -> wombo combo for game. Theres Gravekeepers, which turn 1 royal tribute you and you cry. Theres Blackwing, which plays the longest games of those 4 decks. Games last differently depending on matchup, saber mirrors can take forever, while blackwing mirrors tend to end a bit faster.

IMO, the best program is this. YVD has some bugs and inconveniences. Finding and building cards is a pain in YVD. Apprentice has a huge lack of players, not to mention odd symbols.

Magic Workstation doesn't really break all the time, it's just their crappy servers. There are others or you can just directly host your games.

i was about to say xD, YVD already has this covered and does it quite well i must say. but i haven't played yugioh in the longest time xD. the deck builder isn't all that bad

To my knowledge, YVD has no multiplayer unless you go out on a forum and find someone and put in their IP. Kind of a hassle...

I suppose I might be a bit biased since I prefer arranging games through forums opposed to finding random games against opponents whose skill levels are unknown to me.

On December 24 2010 12:39 Flaunt wrote: Is it like the game boy version where half the cards are bugged?
it's nothing like that, everything is done manually. Basically you enter a room and just assume the other player knows how to play. However there are some limitations with the program that makes it hard to pull off some card abilities, but it's not that bad. Really all this program does is allow you to find an opponent and it limits and forbids certain cards but you can probably make up any rule you like and just play. For example, there is no limit to summoning monsters, you can summon all 5 at once if you want just because the program is free form and allows for players to do what they want. That's why it's kind of imperative that you actually know how to play so you can enforce the rules correctly because the program doesn't.

YVD, you hop on Xerocreative's IRC and just play. You could use their servers too to connect. I don't see the problem with that.
That being said, YVD is a much more active community and actually have players worth something (aka those that doesn't just netdeck and win based on card quality).
When I qualified for US nats, I tested my deck for about 4-5 months on YVD before taking it to regionals. It also helped me to get to know some of the other fellow players going to nats that year, definitely, I would recommend YVD over this.
|
I played until Upper Deck banned all the staple cards around the Pharaoh's Guardian. Also the lame card shop I bought at weighed boosters so no one ever got anything good out of the packs. -_-'
Might give this a spin sometime.

Just got into a match finally. I have doomcaliber knight and d fissure on the field. Opponent tries to activate monster effect, I tell him his effect is negated and both of our monsters are RFG and he disconnects.

To be fair, a lot of people who netdeck the decks are pretty bad leading to quite a few easy wins. There isn't much of a reason to handicap yourself, deckbuilding isn't the only skill in the game. The people who netdeck and win off of card quality usually win because the people they're playing against are bad, it's usually pretty simple to beat a bad player who is using a deck you know card for card, especially if you're also using something top tier. A common proof of this is back during teledad format, the same players (Adam Corn, and Caesar Gonzales, to name the most prominent examples.) topped almost every event they went to, despite almost every match in the event being a mirror.
|
sweet. ive wanted to try a kuriboh deck
|
After a few duels with this, the only REAL problem is enforcing the rules. Just got a heated argument about the activation of Cold Wave.
|
Funny, I never actually met a troll/dumbass on this game before. Guess you guys are just unfortunate =(. To trynet, you're right. Having good cards means nothing if you suck at using them. Good decks require months to years to master, knowing to use what in what situation, in whatever draw, against whatever. Hamachi is not a requirement, you have to understand that. EDIT" Lol yeah, some players will rage quit before reaching 0 Life Points, but you still win since there isn't ladder or anything. Joining an game is incredibly easy unlike YVD, just log in and join any duel.

Apparently rules arn't enforced and it's by all done by agreement with players? That in itself seems enough reason to simply not play. I cant imagine trying to get a single game finished without disputing some activation of a card or some guy attempting to summon 5 10star ritual polymerized monsters at once to wtfbbq your life points and then go into a debate about whether he was actually allowed to do that or not.

its agreement wise IRL too......I mean sure you can get a judge to throw someone out but you also just expect people to know the rules or at least be willing to learn.

I had the "perfect" deck IRL, won some small tournaments here in Sweden but after losing some of my cards I've never bothered to pick Yugioh up again. This seems to be more casual though, might try it.

It's really not that big a deal as long as the community knows what they're doing, which in this case they don't. People on KCVDS are mostly people that don't play irl at all, while if you go on a yugioh forum and find people to yvd with, you'll usually get a reasonable game. When disputes come up, theres usually the wikia you can link to, or post on the site's rulings forum which has a pretty quick response time.

Whiny =/ competitive. Besides this is no different for me, I dont have a problem with it. I can't beat small children IRL and I can't beat people who are morons on the internet so just let the rage go, if someone leaves you win.

Why wouldn't FTK/OTK be allowed, and what are 1950+ 4stars that are worth using? The only 1950+ I can think of, actually, is Gene something wolf which is a 2000 vanilla
My guess was that he was using Empty Jar., which probably wouldn't have anything above 500 attack

Gene-Warped Werewolf, at 2000 attack. There are no normal 1950 beatsticks. All the others are 1900s or 2000+ beatsticks with drawback effects.
No one likes to play against Burn/Exodia decks because they are annoying. Exodia more so because you're sitting there waiting until their turn ends or they win. Burn because you can't implement the side deck.

The only 1950+ I can think of, actually, is Gene something wolf which is a 2000 vanilla My guess was that he was using Empty Jar., which probably wouldn't have anything above 500 attack It was empty jar, and I do have monsters above 500 attack.

i wonder which is more annoying, burn/exodia decks in this or the wall stall decks from pokemon. both are hilarious for tournament play but really bad to play casually/against npcs so you dont get to play them much.
|
do you guys even play yugioh? exodia decks are completely unviable in 2010... I agree with try net, if there were consistent FTK decks e game would be screwed, Konami would need to make a new ban list, fast... In a real tournament, which there are in KCVDS, a side deck would easily slaughter a stall deck. As most people I see use 5 cards in their side deck for typhoons, divine wraths, and shield crush/noble man. The theory "crafting" in this thread is annoying, and most people are using their 2005 knowledge only to criticize what is wrong. As mentioned earlier, it takes up to years to master a deck, not a few days of screwing around with decks until you find a "god" deck, which there is no such thing. A forum thread or wiki ruling link would instantly shut down annoying players, which there barely are any.

And for those of you having problems with the "rules" system on this horrid game, the one supported by konami has their own up-to-date rules as well as rules that can be modified by the user. User tournaments, konami tournaments, and weekly supported "events" as well as a stable trading environment (mostly). I don't play the game much anymore, but it is a hell of a lot better than this cheap knockoff.

I was more referring to this how to page, it was showing in game japanese. http://www.yugioh-online.net/v3/pages/howto/startgame
And yes I clicked the english flag, I have to wait like an hour for this program to download to see if it has in game english, so could you please leave your smart ass remarks for the SC2 forums?

Sweet, time to troll with six samurai/macro cosmos
is macro cosmos still good? i heard blackwings/x-sabers are the top decks right now, is that true?
|
I found some up to date list for bw and x sabers and tried both out, been winning more than losing but the people on the kcvds are also kind of bad, they rage at top decks so its just like a card shop.
|
you need to pay for it, unless they made major changes in the last 6 months.

Macro is pretty bad right now, too many dead cards. sabers and plants are 2 of the best decks, fish OTK is flying under the radar pretty heavily, with a couple of top players calling it the best deck, but due to a lack of events since the last set it's relatively undetected aside from regional tops. Gravekeepers have an influence, but that will likely fade out.

not only do you need to pay for ygo online, but I don't know of a single high level player who plays on that site, hell, I don't know anybody at all who plays on that site. All the high level games online are done through yvd, it's been the standard for years. Rules disputes are easily settled via the wiki or forums. If I wanted to spend more money on cards, I'd spend it on cards I can turn back into money, not this virtual stuff.

Thanks been looking into Yu-Gi-Oh been missing the game used to play it old school on ps1 lolol, can you join and spec like you can in starcraft? or is it just for players?
|
Since you guys are newbs the OP's Nuke icon means he's been banned and there was a warning about "bumping" an old thread (you see it before you post in an old thread T.T). It was a fairly big OP but the links provided should be better (and faster!) than posting here.
This thread does seem cool though. Kinda makes me want to play Konegrate or something.

Kind of a hassle... ??? YVD, you hop on Xerocreative's IRC and just play. You could use their servers too to connect. I don't see the problem with that. That being said, YVD is a much more active community and actually have players worth something (aka those that doesn't just netdeck and win based on card quality). When I qualified for US nats, I tested my deck for about 4-5 months on YVD before taking it to regionals. It also helped me to get to know some of the other fellow players going to nats that year, definitely, I would recommend YVD over this.
From this thread. So ya, use hamachi > find someone on IRC. Sounds pretty reasonable to play free yugioh on the internet. Definitely no where near the difficulties of MAME~

How to download this??
User was banned for this post.

I don't know if anyone mentioned it but: http://www.duelingnetwork.com
It's basically the same thing except it's browser based so you don't have to download anything and there's thousands of players on at a time.

Are there actual rules which don't allow you to play certain cards etc. Playing in person is fine, you can argue about the effects of cards reasonably and it gets sorted out in seconds. Online I wouldn't dare play a game where rules aren't alrdy in effect by themselves. Internet makes normal people troll and attracts the worst kind of people. Let alone I haven't played in literally like 7yrs and don't remember a lot of rules so I'd constantly be asking questions and wouldn't know if someone is breaking the rules or not.
Guess what I'm asking is, is there any online Yugioh game where it's basically like the Gameboy/DS games, except online vs. other players. Like the PokeMMO someone made.
If not, what would be the best Yugioh game to emulate which has the most amount of cards available.

Is the download still available?
|
Jesus these necros.
As far as i know, the guy that did kcvds quit doing this for a while now (2 years, if i remember right) because this game has changed into something that, by his standard, isn't yugioh anymore. So while the download for this game might still exists in like softpedia or whatever, new cards won't be in the game, and there really weren't anyone there that could played worth a damn anyway.
For zooper, ygopro is your best bet. I never played on there so i don't know how the playerbase looks, but it's all automated AFAIK.
YVD 4lyfe doe.

You should look for devpro, or just go to duelingnetwork.com. devpro is fully automated, DN is not, but its flash based, so you play it everywhere.
