The subject of this thread is not a license to roll out your inaccurate, misinformed, poorly conceived, tired, and downright offensive theories about race relations. |

Does it really matter when these are ladder games. I feel bad for orb all these people act and seem very jealous.

Just my opinion.
Nigger is apparently a whole other ball-park

Every other game on battle.net, regardless of win or lose, a person generally PMs me with something such as "ez u faget". This is no different. If you don't like his language, don't watch his stream, but making drama threads like this is uncalled for. No different than Jessica calling out Dragon publicly. Brother, you and I are in the small minority. I agree with you, but I think this is too late. This is the truth but Orb isnt some random guy anymore. Im black and while i am not offended to the point of raging i have lost some respect for him. 1. If you make racist jokes (which i do) you do them in private with people that actually know your not racist. 2. Calling someone a jew for being cheap or black for listing to hip hop a shitton is different than calling someone a stupid kike / fucking nigger when your pissed at them and are trying to be intentionally demeaning. That is inexcusable. 3. If you dont understand the context of black people using the n word around each other then get out. I NEVER use the n word and i dont like it, but a black person saying IS different from another race saying it for a reason. Trying to justify its use by saying i hear black comics and rap artists saying it is stupid. Iv heard white comics make black jokes and they were well received context and reputation matter ALOT. If he said "lol my friends so jewish he didnt pick up the tab" its poking fun at racial stereotypes in the right environment. If he said "fucking jewish piece of shit nigger strat" (which is pretty much what he did) its much different. As little as this actually offends me, reading the responses/rationale of people in this thread leads my to one conclusion. TL is full of young white kids that are either to immature to understand whats going on or people really take racism too lightly. I make gay/black/asian jokes and i dont think someone should be crucified for a private statement, but a gay/black/asian jokes (even if it is stereotype based) is much different than calling someone a fucking nigger/jew/faggot for no reason other than to demean/offend them. And when you represent the community shit like this doesn't fly. I still dont think he is racist but he has lost alot of my respect if he needs to resort to racial slurs every time he loses. It seems pretty immature. Destiny is the same for me and since i dont watch either of their streams i dont really care since i can ignore it. But he represents SC2 and EG so i do have a problem with it. TLDR: Race shit is always touchy, if you a public figure you cant EVER do it without expecting backlash so be careful. I dont think orb and destiny are racist but i dont have alot of respect for people that try to defend using racial/sexual slurs to crush someone spirits. Race jokes im ok with but calling someone a fucking (insert racial term) when your mad at them is ridiculous. Calling someone a jew for begin cheap is alot different than calling someone a piece of shit kike because your pissed at them. Additionally, sponsors care so you cant just run your mouth when your're attached to a company Edit: I think alot of people are overreacting, but alot of people are also under reacting I agree 100%. It is disheartening that people can't see this. I don't know if its immaturity or lack of experience. And yes, I am also Black.
I agree with the both of you 100%. I have a feeling that, for a lot of people commenting on this thread, relative inexperience with societal expectations that leads to this bafflement of these controversies.
If you expect to be a public figure, you need to curb your public activity.

I really don't understand the problem here - If you don't like Orb's attitude/remarks vote with your feet and stop watching his stream - the less attention stuff like this gets the less credibility the person behind it has. I can almost guarantee that thanks to a response like this his average stream viewer numbers will double.
TL stream management options allow people to place an explicit language warning on their streams - should they deem this to go above and beyond that (imo calling someone the n word over the internet during a rage really isn't the same as actually meaning the term irl) then they should revoke his streaming privileges. simple as that.

For the love of god please close this thread! How the fuck is streaming his personal life? geez... Enlighten me as to how anyone forces you to watch his content?Tell me also why you must also accept before your watch that the "stream may contain inappropriate content/language and not be suitable for all viewers"? Like going a bull fight and then bitching about how inhumane it is. Get off your high horse asshat........ Oh, so you're saying that he can be racist while casting since nobody force you to watch his content. And that would be true if he wasn't with EG and had no relation to any sponsors. he can be racist while casting sure, doubt he would be casting for very long... Don't sidestep my point though, no one or anything forces you view any such content. its a free country Also his relation to EG came AFTER any of this shit got blown out of proportion... But before he lied about it and accused others of illegitimate slander. Not hard to see that he is wrong no matter how you approach the subject.

I think something people needs to realize, is that, when you use a word in a demeaning way, like bitch, cunt or nigger you usually don't mean what the word actually means.
When I call someone "a fucking bitch" or "cunt" it doesn't mean that I hate or think less of women, the same applies to "nigger", perhaps even more so due the history of that particular word. It's meant to be demeaning and nasty towards the person you are attacking. It says absolutely nothing about your own beliefs regarding racism and sexism.
Usually what happens when you "rage" is you venting your frustration and anger towards yourself - you are the victim and merely projects your own frustration onto others.
Orb may be a racist, but the evidence so far is severly lacking and all we can do really, is to merely speculate.

A little different. I'm pretty sure a big part of Scoot's anger will be in the fact that orb lied to them originally, saying it wasn't him. Now it seems there is irrefutable proof. I'd be surprised if EG keeps him around for any casting.

This is ridiculous. How are people defending Orb?
If this were ANY other public forum his behavior would not be tolerated and his career would be over. And for good reason.
How can we expect anybody to take professional Starcraft seriously if professional casters are allowed to use racial and homophobic epithets on their broadcasts?

You really should care. It should not be acceptable in any way to casually throw around racial slurs. It's disgusting behavior, and attitudes like yours only make it worse.

Idra didn't go on to lie that he never used that language and then made Scoots look like a fool defending him on Lo3 last night. If Orb had owned up to it immediately and said that was in the past, he probably would've gotten a second chance. Lying about it made EG's decision very easy.
|
At this point it doesn't even matter what Orb said.... all that matters is people's reaction.
Fact is...... he's incredibly unpopular now and will only hurt the next brand he represents.
He's become famous for being a jerk.... he provoked it, but its still quite a sight to behold, the wrath of the SC2 community.
Both Orb's and SC2's true colors show through.
I'll admit, its fun to watch.... but I wouldn't make the mistake of ACTUALLY caring, its just Thursday night E-DRAMA!

I'm sorry that I missed this but when exactly did this alleged incident occur? I thought orb was staying in the EG Lair? in the picture he is clearly at his home where he would play a while back (the paintings in the background give it away)?. I would understand if this happened after he joined up an worked with EG...but if this is just digging up an old replay I really don't think it's fair.

People making a big deal out of nothing as usual when it comes to what is racist or not. People spend way too much time on this kind of stuff, so what he said the word "nigger" big f***ing deal. If anyone has a problem with it then don't support or watch his stream anymore, there are more important issues than wasting time on petty stuff like this. Amazing how offended people get over something so small, grow some balls. Everyone is subject to some racism at some point in their lives, get over it, it only affects you if you let it.

I think a lot of you are missing that the problem is not just the use of the world (however immature or pathetic it may be), but his refutation of the claims despite him obviously knowing the entire time he talks like that constantly.
He lied to his employer and they will unavoidably get shit for it. that's a big deal, especially when the industry is so PR dependent. By lying to EG and having them back him, orb has given them no choice but to punish him severely less EG is called out as a liar.

I also don't believe that because he used racist words it means he is straight up racist. Anyone that has rage quit before knows you just search for the worst possible words to throw and you launch them. I know I've dropped quite a few homophobic slurs on people after losing and I don't really care either way about one's sexuality. Doesn't the fact that the worst possible word he could come up with was nigger make him racist? Don't care much for any of this but it will make EG look bad if they don't fire him after their first statement...
I just think he associates it as the 'wrongest' word to use. I mean it's entirely possible he is racist but I don't think it means definitively that he is, which I imagine most people will now assume.

Damn, never really cared for Orb, hope he gets punished for that kind of silly behavior. Then again, I never really understood how people so casually dismiss racist words and behaviour so easily. Regardless, never been a fan, and this probably cements it for me.

Your right his actions from the past shouldnt really be brought up, the thing is that he lied to the community and EG in past few days. EG backed his words and now it has come to light he lied. So that is why its a problem for him now.

I like how Destiny uses the N word on his stream all the time but people still love him. Ironically it's the reddit community that made him famous for it.
Not taking any sides, but some people in SC2 really have double standards set in place.
|
While I agree its not acceptable for orb to be saying things like this on his stream, and at people out of rage I feel like there's some sort of double standard here as some people have already said.
Perhaps it's because orb is seemingly caught out of character? Or that it wasn't expected of him, or maybe that it's more significant that he is consistently calling people the 'n' word while denying that it is him?
I feel like if orb is being punished for his language, then so should the likes of Idra in some cases, and probably a couple of other players.
