The subject of this thread is not a license to roll out your inaccurate, misinformed, poorly conceived, tired, and downright offensive theories about race relations. |

Just my opinion. The difference here is Orb is paid to talk and IdrA is paid to play. If you only hate the fact that IdrA is bm then you can still just watch him play and forget about the other stuff, Orb doesn't have that luxury. To put this in perspective, lots of people want Moletrap gone from GOM because he has a bit of a nasal voice and he sometimes screams when there's a big battle. They want him gone because they don't like the way he gets fucking excited? That to me is ridiculous. There are also probably a lot of people who want Moletrap gone for having a nasal voice that want Orb to stay even though he behaved this way, funny how that works out... Orb is paid to cast and act professional while he does so, which he's great at. This was from BEFORE he worked with EG. Not only that, it wasn't while he was casting at all. With your view on things, you could just say "If you only hate the fact that Orb is bm, you can still watch his casts and forget about the other stuff" which is actually easier than what you're saying to do with IdrA, as Orb doesn't BM while casting, but IdrA does BM while playing. Stop being so hypocritical community.
How is that being hypocritical? Orbs actions 24/7 reflect on EG whether or not he is casting. I work at a professional services firm. If I, off-hours, went and started cussing out people around the office and using racist slang, would I get fired? Yes.
The people who seem to be okay with this should try doing this in the real world and see what happens...
Sure, Idra gets a free pass for being somewhat rude. But that's the benefits of being ridiculously popular. Just because Idra is able to get away with it (which I don't agree with btw) doesn't mean it's okay for Orb to do it.

It's less what he said that his way of dealing with it that pisses me off. Jumping to bitching about "reddit witchhunts"? Putting everyone else (including TB, who will be a much more significant force in SC2 than orb will ever be) down to try to lie his way out?
Fuck this guy. Bring on the pitchforks.
edit: Amusing to see people even mention IdrA in this thread. Whoosh.

If you honestly deep-down turn the other cheek to uses of these words in ways that are meant to be inflammatory and derogatory or think it's not a big deal because "people say it on the internet all the time" and you don't see how it's a problem that someone who represents the SC2 community is saying these things, please never talk to me until you can broaden your perspective and educate yourself.
You can go ahead and attack my high horse but at least it's a progressive, tolerant one. In the meantime, lets never hang out
This post is itself racist. Funny how the people who go crazy against racism are typically racist themselves.

I live in Alaska and it is most defently legal to posses marajuana. Many of my friends have reported to the cops when people stole there weed or growing equipment. Also cops have come over for noise complaints and people have been smoking inside and they dont do anything. You can have up to 1 oz. with you and not get in trouble.

At this time it has negative karma at reddit and is easily missed: Show nested quote +This one was me a while ago at like 3am when i was drunk and I do apologize for my behavior. I was off-stream, had been cannon rushed 3 games in a row by this garbage clan (who I proved was stream cheating), and this guy had already called me the N word 6 times so I figured I'd throw it right back at him. Obviously not a good decision, but at the time I was so infuriated for having about an hour of my life 100% wasted that I made the wrong decision in my fury. I am not a racist in any way, but this word is specifically the only word on the internet that still offends people, which is the sole reason it is used. I like/love/hate people based on who they are, not the color of their skin. I really do hate some people, but actually looking back I don't think a single one of the people I dislike is black. So I guess that makes me racist against white people?
Obviously this doesn't justify my actions at all, but you are all really holding some insane double standards here. Destiny uses the N word literally daily, as do players like Spades and KawaiiRice, yet no one seems to care. Nothing in my life has ever made me as angry as starcraft does, and when I get THAT angry I usually want to throw out anything that will make my opponent as offended as possible. Not a good attitude, but it's a hard one to improve with how frustrating a game sc2 can be (especially when your opponent is doing everything he can to make you angry on purpose).
It still remains that when I am casting I am 100% professional. If you have too tough of a time separating my real personality (aka when I'm casting) from my darkest personality that comes over me when I'm ridiculously angry (aka when playing SC2), then I am sorry for ruining your viewing experience, but that is just silly. Until I am the least bit unprofessional with my casting I don't see how these past actions (that people seem to love posting all of a sudden now that I got a job) should be affecting my career in the slightest. There's a reason I switched to casting. I just get too angry when I play sc2.
With my anger I used to be like other gamers. I used to break stuff. You always hear about progamers breaking their keyboards, breaking their mice, punching through a wall, etc. I used to do this kind of stuff, and in fact caused some injuries in my right hand from slamming my desk so hard. Instead, I switched to BM/trash talk as it is a much safer, less harmful form of venting anger. 99% of the time I keep it to acceptable standards, but when the OP of this who played against me called me the N word 6 times there's a bit of hypocrisy when I repeat back the same thing he just said to me and he posts the screenshot on reddit as if he is some saint.
Also, I wasn't representing EG when this happened. Just because the screenshot is posted after I get a job doesn't mean it happened after I got a job... just look at the video you can see me back at home in MD. Have none of you ever made a bad decision while drunk when someone else is doing their best to aggrivate you? http://www.reddit.com/r/starcraft/comments/qmvdb/orb_really_loves_the_n_word_on_ladder/c3yvceg?context=3
Can't speak for Spades or Kawaii Rice, but Destiny has taken his fair share of shit for using the word nigger while BMing.
Orb, less excuses. Time to grow up and be the bigger man (even when people are baiting you).

Really? I have one problem with this discussion and it is that racism is dragged into it.
The words means nothing it is bm and that is all that is relevant to discuss, if you want to discuss whether or not a caster should bad manner on stream and on ladder that is one thing. Surely everyone is aware that orb tends to bm.
But I find it terribly overzealous how people jump on certain words. People who are angry and bm use different words that can be taboo, powerful or generally disliked. It is the point of using words in that way. Someone using nigger to curse at someone does not mean that they are actually a racist, someone using the word faggot to bm someone is not necessarily anti gay any less than someone who uses cunt to curse thinks that vaginas are something to be avoided.
Sure, debate whether or not orb should bm but just get over the bullshit about different words because it does not mean anything, guess what, my brother and a close friend of mine are homosexual and I use faggot when I curse, even around them. It does not mean anything in a context like this.

Yeesh. I better prepare an alternate SC2 identity in case I say a bad word one day. Just like those old ladies in the 80s and 90s who would cry to congress over song lyrics, you should get a life and not worry so much about what other people say. If it offends you, dont watch.
This example IS particularly bad, but I still dont care. Its hardly worth having another witch hunt.

It was very immature of Orb to do this, but this should not be that big of a deal. People can do whatever they want on ladder, let orb have his normal life where he can do whatever he wants on ladder as long as hes not cheating. If a random person did this, it would not have over 50 pages of people talking about it.
|
I think the biggest wrong is that he lied about it and that is it.
it is BM, of cause it is going to be negative in some ways. the N word has been discussed to death by Destiny. N word is not un-acceptable, it has become more or less a staple rap term (a culture term)
Faggot and Nigga are just over-used insults. I mean does anyone really believe that he is trying to say the other opponent is bad because he is gay and black?
|
At this point there are 60 pages of hate.... even if you justify Orb's actions, you can't justify to a sponsor how your spokesman is so hated.
What is EG supposed to do..... tell everyone they're wrong? That's not how business works.... the customer is always right and people are being pretty clear how they feel about Orb.
Its mob mentality. I can't say I disagree, but the sheer volume of it is scary.

Thats funny I've noticed quite the opposite when he is casting for the ESV. He has always came off as pretentious arrogant and full of himself. Although he doesn't bring the cursing into his casting you can tell be his demeanor while he casts.

Lying to EG was quite bad. The incidents themselves, however, weren't. btw, this thread should probably be closed

Congrats, you are in one of eight states to legalize weed (medical marijuana). That means 40 other states and 2 wishy washy states don't accept marijuana as a legal drug. Therefore marijuana is not legal in what you said as "many" states.

Keep this trash over on reddit were it belongs.
That community is a joke, they like to single people out and go on witch hunts to bury people in a world of hate. They should be excluded from the SC2 community, they add nothing and take away more then they give.
