I joined a new team, Eclypsia, on March 8th. I put a lot of confidence in them, declining other offers. Eclypsia seemed very ambitious with a large budget, good contacts and a solid plan to give the players they recruited the best possible conditions to improve. Everything went fine at first, wages paid by the hour, very good coaching, superb communication. No reason to worry.
Then the Copenhagen Games approached. In accordance with what had been agreed, I booked the hotel and flight myself, on the understanding I’d be payed back along with my salary... But my salary has not been paid for nearly two weeks. In that time I’ve had enormous problems getting in touch with representatives of the team. It seemed hard to believe that this was a coincidence and I started to worry a lot.
After speaking to my teammates it seems that I am far from alone in this case. Eclypsia seems to have stopped responding.
I didn’t want to have to resort to these methods, but it seems obvious now that I will not receive my salary, that the countdown to the launch of their website www.eclypsia.com was actually a scam, and that they have screwed us.
I wished you have waited more than 2 weeks before bringing it to the public and make that into a hudge shitstorm...now their structure is basically dead because of your message

Are you serious? This is his employer, and he hasn't been in able to get in touch with them for two weeks. How can you expect someone to wait more than two weeks when they're not getting wages promised or even the opportunity to communicate with their boss.
I'd feel suspicious everytime new team offers to pay for stuff, but wants you to first pay it yourself and getting paid later. Maybe if the team and player have some history, and player has been paid before for other expenses, I'd trust, but to start off the relation by player paying something like 200euros (?) alone it seems stinky.
I talked to Eclypsia player Poullieux today and he said that the team was doing fine, and that it was nice and upcomming. He said nothing about this, but this sounds really weird. A lot of people has been talking about this, and it's been really serious. Why would any1 ever troll 5 very good players and a whole community to get nothing out of it ? There gotta be something wrong, I'm quite sure they're not scamming you.
If it was this serious and they had a lot of money, you've got to been talking to the staff via phone etc right?
Well, anyhow this sounds weird. Hopefully everything will get solved.

More than likely it's not a scam. At some point someone probably realized they didn't have the budget to run a team and then decided to call it quits or something.
Hope you guys figure something out or find another team!
Do you have a contract? If yes, you should considering taking legal action. A joint claim from all the players would probably be your best choice. Let's hope it's all just a misunderstanding though...
It's unfortunate and I really feel for all involved, you'll incur additional expenses until the litigation is ended but I suggesting suing them for all you can get. I'm not terribly familiar with EU law so I can't really advise you further but you should consider getting a legal consult.

Welmu
So you changed your ID to represent this new team, they paid you some money but not all they promised, and then tricked you into buying your own plane ticket?
You were not screwed. This is not called a "scam". This is called "a group of children playing at business and someone fell down and skinned his knee". Change your ID back and enjoy the trip you paid for.
Hilarious @ everyone telling you to sue. As if a typical pro Starcraft player contract is for enough of a salary to cover the cost of office supplies and gas to file the lawsuit.
It might be the case that the op is part of the aprils joke aswell or that he simply wants to raise publicity for this website. The story seems very awkward to me.
I don't think it is a scam either. Rhater some people who maybe did not plan as they should. From what I know they don't have any real sponsors so they problebly did not generate any income. And when they realised that they went above the budget they decieded that maybe they needed to close down the project. I don't know who runs Eclypsia or their origin.. And I was suspicius at the start, but we will see. I hav eto say though, if they already went above the budget they had before they even got started... I hope you can tell us who runs Eclypsia so that other players can stay away from such horrible management.
That said, I hope you can keep us uppdated Welmu, because while 2 weeks is a long time without salary or conntact, it is by no means uncomon in the world of e-sports, perhaps they have a good reason, perhaps they don't. In any case I hope i gets solved soon.
Edit: Holy_AT I don't think that an april's fool joke about your team not paying you is very good... for any of the parties. it is only bad atention and is very very serious accusation.
Wow this is terrible. Welmu is a great guy, sad to see him screwed over like this, hope either Eclypsia get their act together or he gets his money back.
I can't tell which I think is the april fools joke, the eclypsia members saying they weren't paid or the eclypsia team trying to pick you guys up O_O;;; aaghh
Kidding aside, surely this isn't an april fool's joke. It woud be really stupid to make a bad joke about your team. It's just probably business plans that didn't work out that lead them ending with no money to pay out to their players.

Any French person knows a simple phonecall and the police would look after this. Theres no need to sue in France, the law on employment and unpaid debts is extremely clear.
I had to go in Gamer Assembly in 1 week (biggest LAN if France) but Eclypsia just didnt pay it yet, and im sure they won't because they didnt leave a single word to me since 3 or 4 days now.

Are you sure about that? All the players are unpaid + the flights so we're talking about a lot of money here, don't think the police will be enough to handle it but I'm unfamiliar with french law so I'll be careful with my advice

I'm no lawyer but doesn't it just depend if you have a civil law country (like Germany, maybe france too) or a common law country (US, UK)? Common law countries have more wiggle room while civil law have clear boundaries and procedures you need to follow.

we had a ton of discussion by cartooneys when the whole stephano/complexity thing came up, was quite sad so let's not go over it again
This story seems wrong in so many ways. 1. Why would anyone pay expenses out of their own pockets for flights and hotel (food or gas would be more understandable, as the cost might vary)? 2. Why would anyone make you pay out of their own pockets just to scam you? What in the world would they earn from this? Its not like they are getting anything out of it. I would understand it more if they ran off with your price money or something. If this story actually ends up being true, it means they where scamming you just to be assholes..which seems unlikely. 3. The countdown on the site is to 1. april, no matter what country you're from (meaning its 4 hours and 39 minutes left for me, while others already have reached zero) 4. The post was posted on 1. april

As far as I know, it is indeed true in country who are under common law type of legal system (like USA), but not under civilian or Roman law (like France). At least, I know that binding verbal agreements are quite uncommon in France, but I do confess that I'm not a specialist of any kind about law.
You guys should stop trusting random french teams... we have a lot of assholes who want to make "big teams with pro sponsors" but once they realize that they won't be able to pay, well they stop paying. Remember Virus ? Back in the wc3 days there was even a team which was sponsored by ONE man only, he was paying players with his own salary, it worked for some months and it exploded when he was broke. Whatever happens just ask contracts and don't trust random people on the internet.

He is most definitely in his own right and i'm not trying to defend eclypsia, not being in touch and not paying their players for two weeks is just unprofessional and shouldn't happen. But remember it is pro-gaming we are talking about, there are so few teams able to provide regular income to their player that i think we shouldn't bring them down at the first sight of weakness.
There has been a lot of scammers, insecure and attention needy people starting "pro" team, i just wished eclypsia wasn't one of those and since we don't have any details besides what Welmu says i think we should hold on the pitchfork at least a little bit.
If they didn't react within a day or two then it's safe to say those guys are scumbags...it's just sad to see stuff like that still happening in esports and i doubt it's the last time
Good luck to all the players after the incoming disband of Eclypsia (and btw the team lasted what ? A month top ? really sad : / )

You need to do better than that ^-^
If you really think that this is an April Fool's joke, then you are delusional. Think about it. If it were a joke, it's a joke that HURTS their organization more than anything because even if the players say "LOL JK APRIL FIRST HAHA" anyone with some common sense knows that it is not going to end in any way positive for Eclypsia.
It is very common for organizations to have their employees pay out of their own pocket, especially less established ones that are basically living paycheck-to-paycheck from sponsors. They might not be able to pay you now, but they will reimburse you next month, or whenever they get money from their sponsors.
They didn't make him pay out of his own pocket to scam him. My guess would be they took sponsor money and pocketed it and gave nothing to the players.
This was "posted on the 1st of April", because Team Liquid runs on Korea time (a concept that baffles me to this day, but whatever). Welmu is from Finland. The time in Finland as of this post is 8:31PM, March 31st. Not April 1st.

They made him pay it out of his own pocket so that they didnt fucking have to. They most likely lead him along, and he paid the trip. There is a world-wide governing body called "the law." It's illegal to withhold payments to employees. As long as players are wise enough to make sure they have contracts drafted up and signed there is no problem, only a bit of a hassle because you need to take care of business yourself.
No governing body at this point would change the current state of eSports because joke organizations can get prosecuted by the law anyway. A governing body wouldn't really change anything.

This is the worst April Fool's joke ever, if it's an April Fool's joke. I once thought it would be a funny April Fool's joke to get a genuine HIV test, and change everything so that it says that I'm HIV positive and post it on my facebook wall because I thought it would be funny. Thankfully I thought twice and realized that the potential future negative aspects of claiming I have HIV when I do not severely outweighed anything positive that could come out of it.
That is sort of the equivalent of what this is, because even if it was a joke, it's a joke that hurts Eclypsia more than it gains them anything. It doesn't display good humor and doesn't put their organization in a positive light what so ever. If this is a joke I would expect sponsors to pull out immediately. I wouldn't want my brand associated with an organization whose management thinks it's funny to announce to the world that they're a shit organization who won't reimburse players for flights and hotel, dodges attempted communication and potentially runs off with sponsor money.
Small teams are either shady or have terrible management in this scene. Maybe because they are overly ambitious with unrealistic expectations. Who knows really...
Well, since Welmu never responded, I am going to assume this is an elaborate April Fools joke to get more exposure for the team. You can say it wasn't the smartest idea to throw their team under the bus just for laughs, but I am sure they will announce something big to counteract it. Who knows though, I could be completely wrong... I have April Fools lol.

My guess it's both of those combined with an inexperienced management. It really sucks that things like this happen.
why even bother writing this exactly on april the first, could have waited a day lol. Sigh .. doubt blizzard had overtime this year to make good april jokes ... and on the forums april jokes got lame. Well enjoy the trip.
I doubt it is an April fools joke and it is terrible. It's more likely that after this gets out, if they do in fact have the sponsor money to give, they will give it back and CLAIM it was an April fools joke. If it was an April fools joke, they'd at least be able to contact the team representatives. But the OP and apparently his other teammates are actually being completely ignored.
Such as a shame stuff like this happens, sorry man.

The sponsership money that they had, maybe they planned to get a bunch of good players then ask sponsers for money, then Welmu asking to go to this tournament was going to fuck up them so they would have to give him the money so they just said instead that he can pay his own way there.

No. The famous phrase is, (and I'm paraphrasing), ~Any publicity is good publicity~ Bad publicity is the exact opposite of good, which is bad. This is not in any way good publicity. This only hurts their organization.
I don't get how I can't find any sponsors for their "team", that is always very suspicious. Announcing new stuff on April 1st doesn't sound believable also. I have no idea wtf is going on anymore.

Any company willing to even potentially pull this as a April Fool's joke deserves to have the players directly leave, and if any contracts were made/signed/given, deserved to be dealt with in a legal matter for lost wages.

April Fool's jokes (and jokes in general) are supposed to be funny, and it should be obvious that it's a joke. In what way does this meet those criteria?

Both Welmu, Dayshi and Slog havent recieved money for weeks, (= not april 1st) and the communication they have to Eclypsia is minimal, (= not an april fools joke by Eclypsia) otherwise there wouldnt even have been the need to post a thread on TL like this. And this was posted on 31 march on EU (= not april 1st)
Please keep this thread constructive, such as trying to find out ways to contact Eclypsia's management or maybe to even to get an official statement from them.

Yes, making your team look like a bunch of incompetent scammers sure is good.
Its not like this publicity stunt made the news either. We're just a handful of nerds writing on a message board about this whole thing, how would this increase awareness of EC?

Bad publicity is not good. There becomes a point where the bad publicity is so bad that sponsors decide to pull out because they don't want their brand associated with the organization anymore.
Look at what happened to orb and EG. People went apeshit over orb and complained to sponsors. It would've been bad publicity for EG to keep orb after what happened, and Alex understands that the bad publicity would end up hurting their organization more than it would gain them.
I really wish there was a better way of distinguishing April Fool's posts from normal ones. April fool's day is easily one of my least favourite of the year.

Well there is a famous phrase "bad publicity is good publicity" and because Eclypsia are not a well known team maybe they are doing this just to get publicity. I mean it would fucking so stupid but more stupid things have been done.
No. The famous phrase is, (and I'm paraphrasing), ~Any publicity is good publicity~ Bad publicity is the exact opposite of good, which is bad. This is not in any way good publicity. This only hurts their organization.
Good publicity = Good publicity
Bad(any) publicity = Good publicity
Hence any publicity = Good publicity... same thing said differently...
Also you can't compare this to orb, soooooooooooooooooo different.

I will say this though, for all we know the players might be in on it.
Even if all the players are in on it, along with management, I find it very difficult to imagine that no one in Eclypsia was blessed with the common sense to put their foot down and tell them that something like this will only hurt their organization.

The orb situation blasted EG with so much bad publicity that they were forced to fire him. Can you explain that to me how it was good publicity for EG or orb? All forms of publicity are not created equal. There is a point of no return where bad publicity hurts the organization.
It's a discussion on when publicity hurts organizations. It's not different at all, because in both cases it will end up hurting the organization.
Not like this hasn't happened before with unpaid players. I remember it happening to a lot of amateur foreigners in BW up until now, however. It's almost April 1st. I think you guys might want to wait to react to something like this and let it play out.
If this ends up being an april fool's joke I'm going to go out of my way to never support anything any involved are a part of. This kind of shit hurts the entire community and the legitimacy of eSports in general. This isn't blizzard announcing pandaren as another race in starcraft, this is your girlfriend telling you she's 3 months late when you're barely making rent as it is. A serious and possibly scary situation that isn't funny in the least. I trust this isn't the case.
I hope it was just a big misunderstanding, otherwise we got some shit goin' down.

Yes, and my point is that if it is an April Fool's (mind you, it's not April 1st in Finland, and Welmu is from Finland) it's an April Fool's that only hurts the organization. There is nothing positive that can come out of the players announcing publicly that the organization they are representing is not reimbursing players for expenses they promised to reimburse them for, and that they have been unable to make contact with management for two whole weeks.
My point that if it's an April Fool's joke, it's an absolutely terrible one, and that a "LOL APRIL FOOLS JK HAHA" is not going to make everyone go "hehe lol I see what you did there."

EG doesn't any need any publicity as they are already incredibly famous and it wasn't a conscious decision by EG to say "ok lets unearth these old replays of Orb calling people niggers on ladder"
I can see why someone(who is awfully stupid) could say that they just want to spread awareness of their team,

The point I'm trying to argue is that the backlash from this publicity will end up being more negative than it will be positive. It doesn't matter if everyone is looking at your team if no sponsor wants to be associated with your team. Would you want your brand to be associated with a team whose management thinks this type of joke is funny?
It has nothing to do with an active decision on anyone's part. EG didn't look for old replays of orb doing anything, the community unearthed those relics and did what they could to get orb fired.
When orb was suddenly the talk of the town on reddit and on TL, he went form being quite an up-and-coming caster, known to some with decent exposure, to a "superstar" over night and everyone was looking at him. Everyone knew who orb was all of a sudden, but the publicity was bad. EG didn't want their brand associated with the bad publicity that orb would bring to their organization if they kept him on, so they had to fire him.
If this is a joke I don't think it hurts their rep as much as you all make it out to be, it's not like you'll root against EC just because of an april fools joke... Don't know abt sponsors though they might see it another way, never heard of EC before this post lol, so props to them, good marketing move, if it aint a joke that is
If this is an April Fools Joke don't ever expect any support from me for your team, absolutely nothing funny about shit like this. If it isn't, then my condolences are for you, but in the business world you should never think something just on someone's word alone, unless you can prove they said it.
What if the team never actually existed, and the managers and the players were just doing all of this for fun. Making the site. announce players. and make it look like this was just a new low budget team, just for the lolz. Then I'd laugh!
Anyway I'm sure it isn't, and I'm sad that things turned out this way. Hope you guys get your money and all of this is solved soon.
I think this is some joke to get attention to count down timer on their web site, if I would have been Welmu I would have waited 1 day to see first what is that count down about.
Eclipsia is probably another step in the culture of "Internet trolling" where you don't have to follow any social norms or laws, as long as you do it for the lulz, i mean it's just trolling
Whats wrong with some of you? How can you even relate this to April fools!?
These guys have their employer vanish with their money for 2+weeks and you think they are just going to all of a sudden come back out of nowhere with the money they owe and go WE GOT YOU!!! everyone understood that. it's still really obvious that this is not a joke. like 99.99%. (except for CounterOrder, lol )
To be honest, I'm very disappointed. Eclypsia contacted me at the beginning of March to manage their team. Now I'm listed as a coach, they've recruited other managers, and I don't have a fucking clue what's going on. I didn't get any of the salary I was promised either and I can't reach any of their staff on skype, this is a really sad situation.
Oh... the players are in it too, for 1st April? Oh, if that's the case, well played. I totally thought it's legit.
If it's legit, one thing sounds especially weird to me - that they were paying your stuff for a while. I'd imagine a con organization to just delay any payments and disappear with maximum profit, not keep paying for some time.

Some people like to get a head start and if you noticed the timer on their website is set for April 1st. It takes into consideration your timezone as well.
Not only that, there was a thread recently with regards to Verdi and a few other team members of eSahara. I wouldn't be surprised if these guys were taking a jab at that.
Like I said earlier. I'd wait to let all the cards play out first before commenting on such a scenario. It's still way too early for any outsiders looking in.
If they players and the company are in on this as April fools to get publicity. I'd shun the whole lot of en. Thatd the most terrible joke just for their own gain and totally not funny at all. Like I said in my previous post this is really sad for the players involved. And if the player who is making us feel bad for him is in on it. I'd be pissed.

The joke is that they're not going to gain anything by doing this. They're slandering their own organization if it's an April Fool's joke. They'll end up losing faith instead of gaining it.

You are right, but i would facepalm even harder if this would end up being an april fools joke. At least put some effort if you are going to do something.
Yeah, What I was trying to say was at this point both Welmu and Eclypsia have nothing to gain at this point but bad comments about themselves. So what purpose would it serve doing this as an April fools joke at all, the only two outcomes would be either people saying "what was the point Welmu?" or "Why the hell wasn't he paid? what a bad organisation.", if it was an april fools then one, it would be totally pointless because theres nothing to laugh about, and two, they both end up looking like fools and have a lot of negative comments made about them.
I've talked to Welmu a few times in the past and this doesn't seem like he would do this for an April fools at all, he had left his team previous to this (possibly for this) and then to get screwed by a new upcoming team? you can understand his frustration with the ordeal. Not to mention he is out of money from his own pocket.

This is a pretty good post that relates to it, and I doubt Welmu would joke about this kind of situation at all, he's done well so far and wouldn't want to just throw it away for some terrible April fools. Someone even mentioned another player on the team posted saying "lol wtf?" or something along those lines. I think it's fairly conclusive now that this isn't an April fools joke at all.

He then says, at first everything is fine, salary by the houre etc.
Then he uses he's own money on some stuff, he then cant get in contact with them, and after that he has waited 14 days (2 weeks) to act (posting this on TL), so 22 - 14 days, for 8 days he recieved salary, things where great!

April Fools. They got you, and this is no joke.
His pay didn't come in for 2 weeks...so the 'joke' was a little premature :/
Well I got small amount of money joining them so I trusted them blindly. The salary was a weekly one and they didn't pay any =/
You've joined on March 8th and got starter money. Correct? It means Your first salary would come something like 15th~, second on 22th~ and third on ~29th. That means You should be paid regular salary at least once. Another set of questions. Why would You schedule a start of a new website on April 1st CEST? Why not April 2nd (hey, it's MONDAY!) or March 31th? Why would You post that You have some trouble with Your team 18:00 CEST today, not yesterday, two days ago or such? Why THIS risky day(timezones!) when everyone is going to question many things?

Taip and Mgk who seem to be part of this team posted aswell. Also, the information You've given us is really scarce. Have You tried calling the manager? (Who is the manager anyway, jeez?)
Taip, you just say shit ! I became manager because I was better. Nevertheless, I don't have any news of the staff too, but it's the week-end...
Just eat french fries Taip, thank you.
Ok Mgk, ELVIS saw the CEO logged in but we couldn't, do you know why? Man this has to stop...By the way at 2h00 nothing's going to be released, cos it's an april fools, and a fake team.

I don't understand, if it was a scam, what did they take from you? Like they hardly stand to gain anything by making some players buy tickets and book hotels for no reason.. if this isn't an april fools, sorry to hear.
I'm having problems too, they haven't payed the deposit on my apartment, last time we spoke they told me it'd be done Monday but after seeing this thread I tried to call them and NOBODY is answering their phone.
why would this be an april fools...? this would only hurt the team's image if it was.

this is why you cant do ANYTHING without contracts... it happens more often than not, that players who invest their own money to play in a tournament, never get reimbursed.
I hope they don't get away with this shit. For the sake of not killing esports I hope Eclypsia fell apart instead of being a joke/scam from the beginning.

Lol I'd be willing to bet this is all a setup, as in the team is real and they're just making an April Fools about the team being fake, no way would anyone try to pull off this kind of joke'. I think this is just an april fools from the OP and the team but it's going to backfire massively.

If it is and/or was a April Fools Joke, then that alone would denote how pathetic the administration truly is. Plus its been two weeks. April 1st wasn't two weeks ago. Flawed logic maybe?
Any company willing to even potentially pull this as a April Fool's joke deserves to have the players directly leave, and if any contracts were made/signed/given, deserved to be dealt with in a legal matter for lost wages.
And you are an idiot. Welmu and Dayshi could have lie about it to make it more realistic ?
April Fool's jokes (and jokes in general) are supposed to be funny, and it should be obvious that it's a joke. In what way does this meet those criteria?
And this only hurts their organization.
Nah obvious april fools jokes are bad, no point if no one falls for it. But it's equally bad if it's something completely normal and logical as well, like "Oh man this pasta tastes good!" -- one hour later "HAHAHAHAHA it tasted like crap APRIL FOOLS!!!!".

The point of an April Fool's joke is that it's believable enough until you reach the end, when it becomes clear, not blatantly obvious, but clear that it's a joke. It's not supposed to have a TLDR: APRIL FOOLS LOL at the end, but should get progressively more and more ridiculous as you read on. The point is not to believe the joke until the big reveal the next day, the point is to trick a person for a little while until he finishes reading the post, video or conversation.
If this is an April fool's joke it's the most ridiculous and retarded joke ever made. Because it will hurt the organization instead. It's not a good practical joke to announce to the world that your organization is a joke, because even if it was intended as a joke, it ends up being true anyway.

Pretty stupid. You owe Welmu an explanation, and Welmu is satisfied, he can tell us what you've agreed upon.
I can't stand the constant need for organizations to send public messages for what should otherwise be private/internal dealings. Welmu created the thread out of necessity due to his inability to privately contact you guys. Now that the public has rallied to get your attention, settle things with him, and allow him to clear things up.
Unless something that he's saying is completely off-base, there's no need for you to create a "public statement" since you should have been responsible to deal with this internally to begin with. Sure, your brand has been tarnished, but the best way it can be restored is to appropriately make amends with the one who has been victimized.
This whole announcement of an announcement thing has gotten out of hand.
i have two favorite things about this thread. first, RickyMarou waited NO TIME to spring into defense, never saw that one coming. second, the people that have no idea what April Fool's Day is supposed to be, assuming that anything and everything should be considered a joke today.

"There is no bad publicity". Don't be so critical of this, it's quiet funny to see how many people fall for this!
Btw about that april 1st birthday, they made so that their website and team will start on april 1st which would be the birthday of the team and explains why it's their birthday on teamliquid.

Such a shame they are douchbag in esport... Serisously i was almost fan just with their videomaking and now... WHAT ? SERIOUSLY ?!... I hope their video maker will find a new team, Fnatic maybe ? : D
OP, that was seriously crazy that that kind of stuff still happens in this sport. I'm really sorry for you and hope you do eventually get compensated at least.
Are you joking? I know april fools day (here atleast) is tomorrow so are you trying to troll or something? He hasn't been paid, hasn't been able to contact his employers for 2 weeks, an apparently the same for players on the team. This is a pretty serious situation an you taking it lightly like this is just wrong so I think you need to straighten up man cause this is disgustingly wrong.
The same thing recently happened to me. I was sent a cheque in the mail and asked to return the funds immediately, before the cheque cleared. The cheque did not clear.

It was good in the manner that EG made a statement and obliged with the community so to speak. This made them "heroes" in a sense, they showed that they do not tolerate racism and they did the right thing etc etc. They took a stand and ppl will applaude shit like that.

im pretty sure its not publicity. my guess would just be that whatever private funding was behind this got used up fast, and they promised way too much etc. and they are just reaping the consequences.

This whole thing seems more like just another case of an up-and-coming overoptimistic team running into funding issues and dealing with it poorly than an elaborate april fool's joke.
...though admittedly, if it *is* just a joke, it's pretty well thought out. I mean, they've been manning their facebook page for at least a month now!
I really question your decision to make this public, if you had a valid contract that you could defend in court you could and should have done so and as a result get the money, or more likely just threaten them to do so and they would have scraped the money and gave it to you when they could. You weren't getting a salary if you didn't had a contract via which they are obliged to pay it to you, if you were getting your money as a "gift" to avoid the taxes and/or avoid the legal hassle OR the team simply didn't want to sign a legit contract with you... than tough luck, that's why so many people chose to get payed legally at jobs where the taxing is around 30-40% of what you could get without the taxes, if you are not bound by a contract any party can fuck the other at any time. Hence the fact that you came here is kinda silly, what are you hoping to obtain ? If the team is bankrupt/it was a scam than you are not getting the money... If the team is going trough a hard time, than you might have gotten the money, now you just got them even further in shit and the chances of you getting the money are smaller than before If you have a contract via which you can request compensation and/or the money you were promised... than i really don't see the point of coming here and screwing them over before they said "Fuck you, we won't give you any money, go sue us" - at that point its worth making them bad reputation, before that point.. does it help you in any way ?
If IEM gets bashed for not giving money on time than that might make them give the money on time, if a team that is ether a scam, bankrupt or going trough a tough time financially is not giving you the money than i don't see what bashing them would help with other than the chance of you making the situation worse.
- If you have a standing contract: Do not hesitate to sue them! - If you have no contract and no real names/contact of them: You learned your lesson. - If this is an April's joke: Shame on you!

People seems to believe that suing is easy and will solve everything... The problem is that suing someone in another country is really a mess, and it's not going to be worth for a couple hundred/thousand euros.. It's sad but it's the truth, and that's also the reason why the e-sport industry is so bad sometimes.
My hope for this = Terrible idea for an April fools joke, as someone posted earlier there is just some jokes that are not 'good jokes'. Joking about a team paying you and screwing players over is something that can go from 'oh this will be funny' to 'oh crap this was the worst idea ever and now is a PR disaster' in a hurry.
Sort of equivalent in our eSports world to thinking it'd be hilarious on April 1st to yell 'bomb' in a plane. People won't think it's funny and the federal government in many nations will put you in jail for it.
If it's not a bad joke,
That really sucks for the players involved in so many ways it'd be hard to count them. I'm surprised people are being so harsh about a player fronting expenses expecting to be payed back; as if it's something completely out of this world to have happen in eSports. Many teams don't have amazing funding schedules and players can be put into situation where they have to be paid back later when scheduled money will show up just due to timing or choose the option to take no risk and not go. Which can be a tough situation for a player and they have to trust their team to front expenses....if this were to turn out to be true, it wouldn't be the first time someone convinced a person to spend their money then vanished.
If it were not the case you wouldn't have charismatic and convincing con men getting put in jail. Plenty of examples from government officials to the business world etc.
Updated site http://www.eclypsia.com/en/.html Artist, SarenS, Desrow seems to have joined. If this is true now. I expect an announcement on TL like for the other players. And I dislike how they made this...
At the beginning I was happy about seeing this new team popping up, but after this I definetly not gonna support this team in anyway. This was just a outrageous try to get attention.
Ok so the announcement says that people were doubting if it was a real team or a scam, so they had the idea to make as if it was a scam (some people in team found it was a good idea, others didn't), they knew there was a risk with this for them
Everything was paid and there is no problem, they announce their new players
I liked the joke, because it was too bad to be really a joke and actually made many people angry for real. Those are the best 1st April jokes in my book that I remember later, because they managed to make me angry at the time. Well played.
By the way, their Liquipedia page was created a month ago and since the beginning it had as team creation date 1st April 2012. So... expecting some dramatic joke announcement/opening should have been normal, even disregarding their site.

I dont blame people for taking it serious though, even the team knew there were doubts about "legitimacy", which is why they used it to fantastic effect.
I like..... "most" of the new pickups. GL eclypsia! ^_^
This was the most retarded April fool's in the history of the world. I have no idea how people find this kind of April fool's acceptable. If it had been any other day of the year, and the management came a day after and said "lol jk, just doing some PR" people would've gone fucking apeshit.
What is it with the world these days where anything goes just because it's April 1st? This "holiday" of tricking people is fucking ridiculous.
I for one will do my best to avoid any player or person associated with Eclypsia, because these kind of jokes are not how an organization who are struggling in an already struggling business are supposed to conduct themselves. This was not professional, it was the most unprofessional "joke" I have ever been apart of.
Congratulations, you fooled me. You also alienated me. That's not what an April fool's is supposed to do.
Well played. Most April Fools jokes are so predictable and obvious these days. This one had a lot of people guessing and confused for a while. Thumbs up from me.
Erm is it only me or does anyone else only see a black screen on the website? For some reason though everytime I right click and drag the screen it kinda pulls an image out (which is what happens when u do it to images on Chrome)
EDIT: Tried it on Firefox and it seems to work now. Something to do with Chrome or a plugin I have on Chrome I guess.
Even if the joke wasn't that fun, most of ppl will forget it soon. Their team looks pretty good for a start, they pick up good underdogs and known players.
Oh noes you guys , they make april fools on me , so unprofessional Ill stop being a fan
Seriously , stop being drama queens and whiners. I too thought it was real but a successful April Fools joke is a good one. I actually prefere this than the HURRDURR OBVIOUS JOKE that make you go "lol seems legit" when you read the first line.
Nice April Troll, at first I seriously believed it, but at second thought the story just didn't seem that legit ;P (first few salaries came, then they stopped, and then they didnt pay the flight? Would be a fail scam IMO ;P)
I don't know why TL allows this thread to stay open, It's both bullshit and free advertisement.
You seriously couldn't think of anything else to joke about other than not paying your players, do you not realize this kind of stuff happens for real all the time? Poor taste.
Went to their website and read the little explanation article. Was hoping for them to explain to me where exactly the humor in this was past the trololol you got tricked to feel bad about Welmu
Woot Artist, Sarens, Dayshi, ELVIS, Slog, Desrow, Welmu and Pouilleux that's a freakin' nice team !
Goodjob for the website and the coverage of the player so far on facebook. And Foxy in the team as a shoutcaster and newser will be awesome, we love that girl.
And the better April fools are the one who believe, well done.

I actually think you're the one who needs to grow up a little, getting butthurt over a joke? It's a damn shame, I thought this community was a little more mature x.X;

Pretty much this... Seriously... Not funny at all.

The point is not that we're "butthurt over a joke," it's the way the joke was presented. eSports as a career is very fragile, and I don't see how this joke was in any way funny, or how anyone thinks this is an acceptable way for a business or organization to act.
You know what will be funny? The next time some player complains about the lack of payment from a team, half the people responding will say that he's just making things up to get publicity for the team. Thank you, Eclypsia..

As long as it's not on April Fools, no, people won't react that way.

And then the next day they all go "we were just kidding guys lolol jk"
It sets a horrible example for the future. The rest of the world already thinks eSports and professional video gaming is a fucking joke. Is this the kind of way we want the organizations representing eSports to act?

1) It isn't funny 2) It creates bad publicity even for a short amount of time, even now I'm just going to think 'oh that team that can't Pr and did a really really stupid and bad april fool. 3) If this was done in other sports this would be laughed out as immature and unprofessional.

wow, just wow. Eclypsia you need a reality check, that april fools joke wasn't funny, it makes the legitamacy of your team on here much less as a small start up. What if Esahara had done this? Oh wait, they didn't even when they picked up Check and Maka because they knew this is not how you act as an organization. You pick up DesRow, Artist, and Foxy, all of which are medium level pros, and you do this as an april fools joke beforehand? Just get your head where it should be.
Was obvious when Dayshi and slog posted in this thread on the second page and that welmu never denied april fools oh well. Closing this, eclypsia can make an official thread about this.
