This might be mundane, but HAPPY WINTER SOLSTICE!!!!!! (well not yet, there's still 20 hours to go)

Man. This is so disappointing, I expected so much fanfare and drama. But the best I get is someone who is overly excited about the winter solstice, lol. No offense TanGeng

There's nothing wrong with having a fun thread now and then. Obviously no one is taking this seriously, but its a useful source to go back to to check out all of the crazy happenings in the world as the days get closer. Its not like we get to experience a potential doomsday every day, we may as well milk as much enjoyment out of this as possible. A thread is totally warranted, and it will only get more interesting to see how the world reacts as the days get closer. That said its 2 days away and I'm not seeing any crazy events. Come on world do something interesting!!! Well, there's already the existing amount of genocides, civil wars, slavery, cheap labor exploitations, natural disasters, that occur quite frequently but we all happily ignore. The world isn't going to shit; it is on average already a horrible place.
I'm not sure if that's true. I mean all of those bad things happened, but on average people are living pretty decent lives. I feel like people just have a tendency to focus on the negative, or the media tends to hype the negative so much because they get more viewers that way, that people think things are worse than they really are. I think if we were being objective about all this, you would have to admit that those things make up a small fraction of the human experience.
The vast majority of people don't really have to go through that. Just think of all the countries that haven't been in war or had any serious problems for decades now. I'm thinking all of Europe, North America, most of South America...China and India may have poverty but they still have high living standards. Oh no we've had a recession, I mean realistically 85-90% of people still have jobs, and others can rely on government assistance. Its a far cry from being similar to a doomsday scenario, where billions of people are wiped out from a meteor strike or something

My co-worker is freaking out. She watched a documentary last night and was like OMGGGG.... Now I'm here trying to prove her gay ass documentary wrong.
